Similar to ntsb 11504810, when I fill up with gas, my Jeep stalls out and dies. I don't lose accessories or anything, I lose engine power. My battery like comes on and my dash says "battery voltage low" "put car into park and then desired gear" it takes a few tries to get it started again and it will buck like it wants to stall out or it dies again completely while I'm driving. Also there are times it is rough changing gears (jerky).
There is currently a recall, u90, on my Jeep. This recall causes high emissions. My vehicle will not pass department of motor vehicles with high emissions. There is a back order for the part that will fix the recall. The recall has also caused codes to come on, which can lead to other malfunctions. If malfunctions due to this recall while I am driving it can be harmful to myself and others.
The vehicle has a lot of issues primarily involving the transmission. The transmission does not shift correctly. The automatic shifting is very erratic. Shift very low sometimes at 2000rpm, and then other times a very high at over 5500rpm. During acceleration, it makes a grinding noise and a very rough shift which can pretty much push you forward from your seat. I took the vehicle to be serviced several times while still under warranty to the manhattan Jeep service center and every single time they said the computer needed to be updated, and after a few miles, it would go back to doing the same thing, rough shifting.
Vehicle stalls/doesn’t start when gas tank is full. This has happened while driving.
My car is a 2014 Jeep Cherokee trailhawk the I bought a few mint ago at a keep dealer and after I bought the car 1000 miles later the car broke down due to a problem with the transmission, I took it back to the dealer and they didn’t wanted to fix it at first … after arguing with them for a couple of hours they resided to fix it and only made me pay for the part … after they supposedly fix it the car started giving me more problems and the dealer and the dealer didn’t wanted to fix it anymore.
It appears there is a problem with the engine oil cooler part that Jeep need to fix so customers do not need to worry about oil leaks due to poor manufacturing of plastic parts oil cooler fix is not cheap and why they put plastic parts near an engine that gets hot.
Electronic park brake engaged without prompting. Dash indicator lights for park brake & transmission service along with 'd' for drive on dash flashing. Could not move car due to park brake engaged. Took several restarts to disengage it. Happened twice with no dash warnings between incidents. Park brake engaging while driving is dangerous and I don't feel safe in this vehicle as I have had a prior issue with losing acceleration on the freeway leading to a scary event.
When driving the vehicle it shakes tremendously and a message comes on that say shift gear to park when we are in drive we shift to park and the vehicle shuts down we could be driving at a speed at 45 and this just happens. This issue happen three times before the vehicle was able to completely start up to get us home. We took the vehicle to the dealership when under warranty they refuse to check it because no indicator light was on.
It started when I was trying to leave a walmart parking lot back in October of 2022. I put my Jeep in reverse and it wouldn't backup. There was no car in front of me so I tried to drive forward and I couldn't. After several attempts I finally called aaa and had my car towed to my house till I could find a local mechanic to look at it. I then had it towed again to cs auto services in leominster, MA and he ultimately had to disconnect the emergency brake because he determined the parking brake module was corroded and the only way for me to be able to drive it was to disconnect the emergency brake until one could be ordered and installed by a Jeep dealer. I thought he was ordering the module but I was supposed to so a few months later on Dec 27th I was driving home from boston and the abs lights and the pic with the car swerving came on and flashed all the way home. I was terrified driving home but after called a few people we determined since the abs was used in bad weather I was probably safe, so I drove it home and had it towed to another mechanic the next day. The found 3 pages of codes that ultimately were a result of the corroded module and he said there was nothing they could do so I called the Jeep dealer down the road and got it in. They looked at it and ordered the module and connector. It has taken the better part of a month for the parts to come in but I have an appt fri. , 2/3/23 and was given an est. Of $1700. 00. I have already spent $500. 00 trying to determine the cause of all these problems and I have driving around the last 4 months without an emergency brake. Both mechanics said they have seen this in Jeeps all the time and don't know why Jeep hasn't done a recall on this since it literally locks your gears up so you can't drive. I guess I was a lucky one because I wasn't driving at the time that it happened but it still happened.
Car will no longer shift in 4low.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that on ten different occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle inadvertently down shifted, shuddered, idled, and stalled. The check engine warning light and the shift to park light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that an transmission bracket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact then stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission bracket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and assisted with some of the repairs. The contact was provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
While driving, the transmission goes into neutral. This happens at any speed. It won't go into gear at all. The local Jeep dealer said they could replace my transmission that I pay for. There was an initial lawsuit on these. But, any owner after the first one doesn't get help. I am disabled and on a limited income. I am stuck at home because I never know when the vehicle will go into neutral. I don't know what to do. This has happened every time I drive it. I have had to risk it to drive to the doctor and to get my prescriptions. If I can get it off of the road, I cut it off. It usually goes back into gear. But, when it goes into neutral, my complex ptsd and my anxiety disorder goes into overdrive. I feel absolutely hopeless about this. I would appreciate any help I can receive.
After filling up the gas tank the engine stalls at stop light. I must quickly place car in park and restart the engine. This happens multiple times as I drive home. Then as I start driving again the engine seems to be hesitant and feels like it is "bucking" me. After the first time this happened it seemed to go away after fuel level in tank went down. When I filled the tank again the problem reappeared. This has happened twice to me. This is really a life threatening hazard.
Car lost power and warning message on dash said to shift to park at o miles per hour. Check engine light was on. When I bought this Jeep it lost power the first or second week of ownership. I took it back to dealer and they said they couldn’t find anything. The car would loose power and the above message would come up. Could happen when driving ar after take off. Problem has not been reproduced. Dealer said wire shorted out and burnt. Check engine light came on it also read message on dash stating to restart at park at zero speed. Service transmissions, service park brake also would not dtart. This is about the deventh time this has happened in less then a year.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed there was an abnormal sound coming from the exhaust system. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure as a faulty cracked pipe in the engine to the exhaust. The contact stated that the motor mount and transmission bracket also needed to be replaced along with the pipe. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the transmission bracket was replaced a year ago. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,171.
One day while we were driving, shifting became very slow and harsh. A few miles later, vehical slowed down enormously out of nowhere, and service brakes and transmission lights came on. No 4wd, no traction control available etc. Gigantic safety hazard, especially. With no prior indications or warnings.
Car stalls out after fueling.
It is well known on Jeep Cherokees from 2014 forward use plastic oil filter housings instead of metal. Plastic part in this heated area causes failure and leakage of oil into exhaust manifold. This problem is so prevalent that all Jeep dealers and other repair shops know that Chrysler Jeep Dodge can’t even keep up the demand for the part replacement, and still they do not make it out of metal. This problem is well known and costs $ 1000 - 1300 to repair. Why is NHTSA not forcing Jeep to recall all the Jeeps with problems and replace the oil filter housing with a metal product !! this is abuse to loyal Jeep owners, with a known problem which all participants are aware of, but no one is holding Jeep accountable !.
When the fuel tank is filled, to the first click off of the pump. The vehicle will stall, sputter, and is hard to accurate. The dealer has all ready replaced the fuel tank, evap line, and a puger valve, but still has the same problems. I have almost getting rear ended when it stalls a couple of times. Still has been going on for 2+ year. Vehicle drives fine after 30ish miles after filling it up.
Leaving to go get wife's computer today my Jeep ran terrible, kept trying to stall I just filled up at costco to top off the tank yesterday. In the next subdivision after passing through the back gate the transmission "d" light started blinking. Pressing the gas pedal at 15 miles an hour did nothing. No forward acceleration nor any acceleration at all. Just coasted to pull over where I could safely as the Jeep coasted powerless. Pressing the gas peddle barely raised rpms like a throttle car would have done. I had to stop the Jeep put it in park and then put it back in "d" drive and it at least my Jeep moved forward when pressing the gas peddle. As I continued to drive out through the subdivision towards a main street, the transmission kept clunking and thumping. Felt like the transmission was loose and dangling under the Jeep, but it is still securely bolted to the Jeep. I decided to go back get wife's car and drop the stupid Jeep off at the dealer again to find out what's wrong with it. At least if it broke down on the side of the road I could run our errands. This constant problem is a major safety concern. If this happens on the interstate it can easily cause a major crash. The dealer can't figure out what is wrong, or so they claim. This happens every couple of months. I don't trust Jeep to keep me safe while driving. This needs to be investigated so owners know the truth.
Engine stalls without warning. One occurrence stalled while in reverse, steering wheel jerked 3 times. After every stall has had the warning "four wheel drive temporarily unavailable". Also had one that flashed "ecu off" this has occurred mostly at low speeds. Happened twice today making it the sixth and seventh occasion.
Ome oil filter housing is made of plastic and it cracked, causing the Jeep to leak oil. This is a common issue with the 3. 2l and 3. 6l Jeep motors. So common that the original part has been discontinued and replaced with one made of metal. That fact that Jeep has discontinued the original part and replaced it with a better one should be grounds for a recall and be covered my Jeep. Instead I have to pay $200 for the part and because of the labor required to replace the part, my total bill is almost $1000.
As I pulled up to a stop light the transmission light blinked and the car started to stall. Sputtered for a second then went away. About 3 min after as I was pulling in front of vehicles when I turned the car stalled and died in traffic. Car wouldn’t restart for almost 30 sec but in traffics felt like a lifetime. Finally started and was able to pull off road but as I sat there car just would seem like the transmission was catching and stall out.
The oil filter adapter has cracked due to it being a plastic housing. Cold weather speeds up the process. The oil filter adapter also has a small torque tolerance for the cap that will also break the housing. This is available for inspection upon request. The safety concern is that the oil leaks out on top of the motor then down the sides and onto the exhaust below causing emission tests to fail. My dealer mentioned this is common but nothing official. The component has not been inspected by police or insurance. The dash indicators don’t come on till enough oil leaks out to display low oil level.
I was driving on the highway and all of a sudden my car wanted me to shift into p to park while I was still in drive. My vehicle was hit passenger side as well in a hit and run incident. I pulled over and waited awhile and called the police then brought my vehicle home because it was not totaled. I tried to get coverage from my geico insurance but they were unable to help. Then February I was in a rear end collision from another gentleman on the way home from work. My vehicle was being repaired for a month and some change until I got it back. At first I thought it was the battery or alternator going bad, but a diagnostic test showed normal for both. I’ve tried different gas thinking it could be bad gasoline. When the vehicle shuts down it’s difficult to get it to restart. Now it is saying service 4wd which I believe is something with the transfer case because its not the axels or differentials which I had replaced from jeff d ambrosia. Looking for assistance to get my vehicle driving safe and possible reimbursement or help, I have all my receipts from what has been done to my vehicle since I first bought it in 06/20/20 for my birthday present. There is a lot of more information that I want an advisor or assistance to know as far as what I have already paid out of my own pocket with dates and receipts (battery, axels ,rear diffs , alternator , etc) and try to diagnose it from there. I know about the mechanisms myself and my buddy who is an authorized mechanic. I am sure that after hearing all the difficulties and safety issues I have had I may be able to get some serious help and even possibly with my right side of my vehicle ! thanks.
I had purchased this 2014 Jeep in the summer of 2021, which for the first many months was in the dealership repair shop longer than what I had it in my possession. After my purchase this vehicle immediately started having very strong jerking when hitting the exploratory, and even when attempting to hold a speed. These strong jerks were so strong it would cause your body to jolt forward. The dealership finally threw up their arms and said this was typical of the Jeeps, and ignoring the danger. This vehicle has now been sitting in my driveway unable to start for over a month now, and was finally towed to another repair shop, just to learn that the starter is shot and needed to be replaced costing over $600. 00 dollars. This vehicle is most definitely a dangerous lemon that it appears that I am stuck with.
My 2014 Jeep Cherokee impreza is stalling and lurching from a stop position as I press the excelerator to enter a street. This is especially problematic since I have to enter a highway ( oregon coastal highway 101) from a stop position turning right to go into town. This has been a problem for approximately 1. 5 years and is a safety issue that could result in a fatal accident and is becoming more frequent.
Oil filter housing is leaking oil onto the engine and dripping on the ground leaving puddles. This is a problem with the 3. 2 engine and the 3. 6 engine. There are thousands of these engines on the road doing the same thing . Oil filter housing defective.
This vehicle has a known issue that has been ongoing for years. If the gas tank is filled (but not topped off) the car will stall when you begin driving when it sits idle at a traffic light or stop sign during the first 30 minutes of use until some gas burns off. When this car was purchased used in Dec 2017 it happened immediately after the first full tank. When idling or right as you step on the gas the car starts “puttering” and stalls. A message states something like “put car in park and restart”. The only way to restart the car is to put it in park, turn it off completely, and restart it. The when you try to go again, it might stall or it might not. This can happen over and over again. When we determined what was the cause we got in the habit of not filling the tank completely, but sometimes you forget. Then as you start driving, it stalls…multiple times. This is an extremely dangerous situation to be in when the car stalls in the middle of an intersection and will likely end up causing a fatal accident. During a recent recall appointment at Jeep service department, the car stalled as I was pulling into the service department parking lot, so they first hand experienced the issue…in fact the service advisor had trouble starting the car. Jeep service called me later and told me there was an existing “star case” with Jeep corporate. Case number s1814000002. This symptom in the document are exactly what I am experiencing. The suggested repair to is replace the fuel pump, fuel pump “o” ring, and the evaporative charcoal canister totaling about $1400. If you google “Jeep s1814000002” you will find dozens and dozens of other complaints about the same issue, and not just for the Cherokee, it is other Jeeps as well. While this is a known issue, Jeep refuses to fix or issue a recall on this extremely dangerous safety issue.
Acceleration and emergency brake when I put on the brakes the car accelerates and trying to get on expressway its a long time before the car can go full potential. The emergency brake comes on unexpected. I dont fell safe when emergency brake comes on at any givin time. If I brake after I let go of brake car accelerates and going on a curve is the same and its very scary. I took to dealer for recall and they updated nodule for gears I went back and they did update on transmission nodule. Got the car back 2 days ago the first day it started again on acceleration after braking. The 3rd day engine light came on. How can they sell a Jeep like this my life is valuable and I dont feel safe. I dont try my car far scared if I get in to an accident and I only had this car for 6months been going back and forth literally everyday to fix the issue and noone is doing anything. Please do something. It has been inspected 4 times and they cant find what the problem is. No warning till 4 months after purchase then engine light was coming on and off.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while at a stop light, the "service parking brake", "service transmission" and "shift to park" appeared on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that the parking brake was not engaged however, the parking brake light illuminated indicating it was engaged. The contact stated that she shifted gears to drive and a message appeared on the instrument panel indicating to turn off and to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that when she restarted the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated along with other warning messages. The contact stated that she was able to drive the vehicle at 60 mph. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic for a diagnostic test however, it was not diagnosed as the obd reader was not reading any codes. The dealer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer for recall information. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that they could not assist because her VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 104,135.
The vehicle shaking stop it by itself and acceleration stars slow takes longer for second gear then pushes back and forth as it’s getting fast or to a stop.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at various speeds, the vehicle was sputtering and then stalled. The "shift to park" message was displayed. The battery warning light was illuminated. The failure recurred after refueling. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was later diagnosed and determined that the catalytic converter, oxygen sensor, vapor canister, spark plugs, charcoal canister, and filter. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,366.
In the middle of driving the car engine will turn off/shut down flashing that the transmission needs to be serviced, place the car in park. Once in park, the car will struggle to turn back on. This has happened on freeways, stoplights, turns. I have had it serviced twice now with no resolution. This becomes a safety issue because it puts myself, and others on the road in danger if the car comes to an unexpected stop. There is no light that turns on until the moment the car begins to shut down. The transmission light will stay on for the remainder of that drive. Once the car has been off for a small amount of time, the light will not appear again until it has another episode.
Error codes u1120, u1110, and u0121 all appeared at the same time. Car became undriveable while driving on the highway. Had to pull over with lost power and stop on the side of the highway. Tried to get the car started again and upon reignition the car cycled between air bag and transmission warnings. The car could not drive without reaching 7000+ rpms at 5 mph. Ended up deserting the vehicle and had it towed to the nearest Jeep dealer. This is the 4th time the vehicle has broken down on the highway.
