Engine Shut Off Without Warning problems of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Vehicle shuts off with all lights flashing if I don't change oil before 2000 miles. This happened to me the first year I had the car and I was almost killed on the parkway. Burke auto said it was a software update. Then it happened four days later I was able to get it to the dealership right down the road that I live but couldn't go over 15 mph and it shut off twice in two miles. Then when I got the car there it happened to one of the technicians and scared the crap out of him and he said he wouldn't drive this car. But no one did nothing. . Now today I almost was in a accident at the food store because the transmission wouldn't stop and then the whole car stopped. It was brought to burke auto group on stone harbor blvd. Cape may courthouse NJ as they told me today they can't get to it and it's going to cost $$$$ then they let me walk home in the rain. I have had Jeeps before and they are great cars but this one is going to kill me. Please help with this matter sense I can't get no help here. The car is at burke motor group in cape may courthouse. On two different occasions I have been in the process of driving the car down a city street when it has for no known reason shut off and become immediately inoperable. The first incident of this was in June 2020. I had the car towed to a mechanic where they could find nothing wrong. They changed the oil and replaced the battery but got no indication from the diagnostic report that anything was wrong. They suggested I take the vehicle to a mechanic that specializes in electronic issues. They found an issue in the steering column that they said may have been the problem. I had it repaired and thought it was fixed. This past Saturday (1/16/21) I was in the process of driving the vehicle down a city street when again, with no warning, the engine shut off. I had the car towed to a mechanic again and again, they can find nothing diagnostically wrong with the vehicle. I have documentation for these issues but it is in the glove compartment of the vehicle and it is at the mechanics. I can provide if needed.

After spending $1,400 Dec 2020 at the putnam, CT, Jeep, Dodge, dealership, on the new shift, $300 being software update, and hvac issue. . . . . . . . Now my vehicle just shuts down while I am driving. The shut down happens five minutes away from home, right in the same spot, every day. Once it shuts down, I am stuck there, wait a minute and restart the vehicle. It begins to start in a strained sort of way. I live in a rural area so not too bad and now I do not leave my neighborhood on the huge hill side seeing there is more traffic, the car will be stuck on that hill which is a main traffic street. This engine turning off happens every time I take the car out in the morning. Seems less if I warm it up first and drive really slow as this has happened beginning of January 2021 and I am trying to deal with it. I am a senior citizen (not working) so I go on errands or apptmts in the morning. Began Jan 4th 2021 and continues.

After filling up my car everytime it shuts off in the middle of the road and switches to neutral. Rpm shoots up randomly and shuts off.

On numerous occasions while driving, the Jeep has not shifted gears properly and engine shuts off. Engine will be in drive and upon trying to gas the engine, it fails to shift automatically and engine shuts off.

After refueling, my wife stopped at a stoplight and the engine just shutoff with out warning. The screen in the car said to put it in park and then in drive. The car then start with out pushing the start button. This happened four times in the same day so she drove to the local Jeep dealership. Jeep said it was a problem with the fuel pump module and it happens when the car is over filled. My wife always stops putting when the pump handle clicks off. They have had her car for over 30 days because there are no new pumps available. This is a major safety issue that can happen at anytime. Her car has only 36,500 miles on it. This is a known problem and Jeep is not doing anything to fix it.

The vehicle shuts off while in drive and results in hard start with rough idle. The vehicle says that it is in park and needs to shift into gear in order for it to move. This vehicle was in motion and happened multiple times on city streets, highways, turning, and braking. This could result in a fatal crash for others on the road. Ecu tcu ecm are believed to be at fault for this per Jeep. The Jeep is in shop and awaiting invoices to see if this fixes the problem. I believe it is the same recall as the v6 version.

My car starts and will drive then randomly turn off while I'm slowing down or waiting to turn. It shuts off the engine and battery light come on. I wait a few seconds and it starts right back up. It does it at least once a day but when I take it to the auto shop they can't identify any codes or anything that's wrong.

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While at a stop sign, the vehicle shut down, the brakes lost power, and the anti-skid and check engine warning indicators illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and informed the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer from where it was purchased. The contact took the vehicle back to regal Nissan (770-998-8686, located at 1090 holcomb bridge rd, roswell, GA 30076) and was informed to call a Jeep dealer. The contact called robert loehr Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram srt and fiat at 770-382-5885 (located at 567 e main st, cartersville, GA 30121) and was informed to take the vehicle back to the Nissan dealer from where it was purchased. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 43,600.

The vehicle shut off without ability to steer or shift in the middle of driving. This has happened while driving on 3 separate occasions without resolution or explanation from mechanics or service managers as to why it's happened. There is also jerking or shuddering at vehicles without understanding or resolution on sporadic occasions.

Issue 1. Engine: at any time the vehicle's engine will shut off while driving. This issue has happened going 70mph on the highway, and it has happened backing out of a parking spot. I have had my engine shut off on me 5 times, I've only had the vehicle for 3 months. The engine will shut off but all other power will stay on. It seems to happen completely at random, I haven't noticed any relation to speed, type of road, or what the vehicle is doing. Issue 2. Transmission: the vehicles transmission will randomly shift into neutral while driving. When the vehicle shifts into neutral while I'm accelerating I lose complete control of vehicle acceleration. The problem seems to always happen while accelerating. This issue has also happened to me at a wide range of speeds. This issue has affected me over 10 times, last time being yesterday in a school zone. Both issues happen independantly of each other, I haven't found any relation between the two. Both issues cause me to lose control of my vehicle in dangerous situations. The way that fca and my dealership treat this issue as if it isn't dangerous is incredibly concerning. My vehicle has been in the shop for a month now and the only solution service has presented is to put a data recorder on board, with the hopes of my vehicle failing on me. My research has lead to one potential link. Based on a 2016 fca recall #16v529000, insufficient crimps in the transaxle wiring harness can cause the transmission to randomly shift to neutral, and can cause the engine to stall while driving. This recall has been performed on my vehicle and the issues still persist.

Since I bought this vehicle, I have had to take to multiple dealers, that could never remedy the "hard jerking, missed gear shifting and repetitive engine light warning and complete engine shutdowns". I now have a vehicle, that I'm told the only fix is to completely repair the transmission, but when the vehicle was under warranty, I was told a computer reprogram would fix the issue. I performed a VIN audit, and some of the visits to the multiple dealers don't reflect the actual service, but I have my documents. Now I have a negative equity vehicle that I fear to drive, at the moment I just took the car to the dealer, they looked at it and now the engine light is off. I have oral fear the inconsistencies of this vehicle, so I have purchased a new vehicle, until I get a resolve. I took the car to the dealer after multiple complete loss of power on I-80 while coming back from a family trip from nyc. Going 65 mph to have the vehicle loss complete power is insane. The only resolve was to pull over, wait, and try again.

The car shuts off while driving (happens when going 10mph-70mph) I get an error message saying place car in park and shift to gear and the battery light flashes and some other lights on dashboard. I have had my battery checked which is fine and oil changed and still having the issue, Jeep told me I have to pay to have diagnostic testing however looking online there are 200-300 complaints I have seen showing the same issue and them being told numerous things to fix the issue which result in spending tons of money with no result. This is very dangerous as the car stops running while on highways or even main roads which could cause an accident. I have 2 small children and I do not feel safe driving in the car anymore. There doesn't seem to be a exact time this happens it happens at different speeds while accelerating or while going a steady speed, low mph or high it happens randomly and frequently.

Vehicle shuts off while in motion. Replaced with new motor and reprogrammed pcm and tcm 3 mths earlier because of same problem. Car stalling when driving. In service again for a 2nd motor. Oil was 0% empty when brought for service. Oil indicator states good at 46% on instrument panel. 2nd time for engine replacement. First replacement at 27 k miles. Now in for 2nd engine replaced cement at 31k miles. Travelling on busy street at 37 mph when car shut off had grandchild in vehicle and tried pulling off to side street almost tboned by another vehicle. This vehicle has shut down 6 times in the past week while driving.

When driving, the vehicle shuts down and message on dash says "car must be in park in order to shift. " vehicle will not restart. This problem has happened multiple times while vehicle is in motion. We have had it taken into the dealership with no resolve. After researching, this is a common problem in this year's model that Jeep is aware of. However, the common resolution is dealershipstill claiming an oil change is needed. Most recently our Jeep was 500 miles under the dealership's recommended oil change. I fear for my family's life if this stall happens when crossing busy highways in town.

The vehicle was turned of and restarted after a few minutes, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to brown Ford (888-799-6294, located at 483 NY-112, patchogue, NY 11772) where the technician reprogrammed the software. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 14,786.

Vehicle doesn't idle at stop signs or light, often the engine shuts down if brake is applied abruptly. When selecting drive from reverse the vehicle engine dies and same with turning left or right if your feet is not on the accelerator pedal. Happens both on the highway or around local streets.

While driving engine shut off without warning, speed goes to 0mph, low battery warning pop up and want me to shift to p and desired gear. Turned it off and on nothing happens. Try it few times and nothing. Waited for 3-5 min turned it on, and it runs normal with engine light on. After about 100ft it stall again. Try the process before and it goes normal again. Car stalled twice a day. First stall happened few days ago. Vehicle was in motion on a city street.

My vehicle has had continuous issues of jerking/missing gears when it shifts, when I took to be checked I was told it was a known problem with this vehicle and there was nothing that could be done until the engine blows up. I was not notified of any sort of issues when I bought the vehicle new. I have also now had continuous problems with my vehicle not starting from being stationary, multiple times it has not started after being off for a period of time, ie 24 hours, but also numerous times my vehicle has shut off while in motion, I was driving down the road and my vehicle just shut off completely, no lights, no gas, no radio etc. I was luckily on the side of a non-busy road at that time about to turn onto a main road. I had both my children in the vehicle with me. I was unable to start my vehicle from this now stationary position for approx. 15 minutes I sat idle in the road with my children in the car. Another time my vehicle shut off while I was driving in a busy intersection my car shut off as I was turning and I was almost t-boned my vehicle started up after trying a few times and I was able to get out of the road way. Once I was parked in a parking lot to collect myself, my vehicle would not start again. It took approx. 4 times trying to start it again. I have contacted the dealership again and will be taking it back, to be checked. When I took it to them the first time for it to be checked as to why it shut off and they could only come up with that it was low on oil, they did an oil change and said nothing was wrong with my vehicle, which clearly the oil wasn't the problem because it has only been about 400 miles since the oil change.

Jeep Cherokee sport , car shut off while driving . Pulled over to side of road , attempt restart , car started on 2nd attempt. Transmission on vehicle , shifts poorly rpms , stick on acceleration and when attempting to merge into traffic , car downshifts . Could cause accident by someone running into car .

I was driving and all of a sudden the vehicle engine turned off. Thank goodness there was no traffic as I was only blocks from the Jeep dealer. I waited approximately 30 seconds and pushed the start button and luckily the vehicle started but would only putt putt to the dealer. The dealer had difficulty getting the vehicle to the work station. When they called me to tell me they fixed it they told me the reason it stop was because it was 2 quarts low of oil and that was the cause. This was very strange as I reminded them to look at my service record at which I had the oil service recently done at their facility. They did not know how to respond. Subsequent I contacted Jeep headquarters (resolution dept. ) and explained what happened and they asked me to take the vehicle to another Jeep dealer for evaluation, which I have done. The other problem I have had is shifting (the vehicle jumps when shifting), they have semi corrected that by putting parts into the transmission, except the 2nd gear still jumps a bit. Another problem I had, was my wife and I were exiting the vehicle with the engine turned "off" and the vehicle started on its own. I was told by the 2nd dealer there is no indication while searching with the diagnostics as to why the engine shut off while driving. I can live with the shifting but not getting explanations as to why the engine died (as they called it on the service slip, "died in flight") my wife is afraid to drive the vehicle for fear it will shut down on the freeway or any street for that matter could be extremely serious. Obviously they have tried to evaluate why or what the problem is or was, but being given an explanation because it was low on oil is not comforting or not finding any codes to indicate a problem, when in fact they had done an oil change to the vehicle is a concern?.

While driving the vehicle, the vehicle all of a sudden shut off. The "service transmission" light came on. After sending the truck to the dealership, two days later I experienced the same issue. The truck shut off when I was turning into the intersection while taking my kids to school. Same message appeared on the dash. I've read online that many Jeep Cherokee owners are experiencing the same issue. My vehicle was purchased brand new in 2014, 37,688 miles. The vehicle is still in the shop, but I am honestly afraid to drive it again because it is very dangerous to drive a vehicle and to have it just shut off all of a sudden due to a faulty transmission by the manufacturer.

While driving down the interstate at 70 mph the electronic transmission disengaged and the vehicle started decelerating to a stop. . Luckily the traffic was light and and I was able to pull off to the shoulder before coming to a stop. The vehicle did not roll , it started slowing as if braking. , I was lucky to not be rear ended, there was no for warning and probably no brake lights. I feel the vehicle is unsafe to drive and want to know why it just shut down at 70 miles per hour, it may have resulted in a serious accident if the traffic haden't been so light. Articals on the internet indicate the launch of the vehicle was delayed by transmission faults. I believe it was put into production faulty. Please investigate.

The first issue arose as the vehicle was being backed out of a driveway. While still in motion, the vehicle produced an audible and visual collision alert with no obstructions present. The vehicle stopped suddenly, partially in the roadway, shifted to neutral and shut the motor off. It was necessary to cycle the vehicle through stop-accessory-run and back to accessory before the vehicle could be placed in park. Once in park, the information center (evic) read "battery voltage low". After returning to the stop position the vehicle was restarted and the malfunction indicator (mil) remained illuminated. Scrolling to the battery status on the evic showed a reading of 13. 9v, within a normal range. The vehicle was placed in drive and operated properly, except for the mil for 24-hours with multiple starts and stops. The following day, upon starting the vehicle, again an audible and visual alarm sounded and the vehicle shut down completely, with the evic reading 4-wheel drive unavailable. It then changed to adaptive cruise unavailable, then forward collision warning unavailable. An indicator light with an exclamation mark stated that service was required. Again, the vehicle was cycled through the stop-accessory-run sequence without the break depressed to re-set the electrical sequencing. The vehicle was restarted and only the mil remained illuminated. The vehicle was then able to be put in gear and returned to service. Both occurrences took in excess of one minute to return the vehicle to operational, and had they happened in an active traffic area, would have left the vehicle a sitting duck for oncoming vehicles. The dealership has been notified and an appointment scheduled to address the issues. No repairs completed to date; owner advised that the vehicle is still able to be driven, but to keep the phone number to roadside assistance handy.
