The oil filter adapter and oil cooler develops a significant oil leak that causes oil pressure and driving performance to drop precipitously and makes the vehicle impossible to drive. At speed on highways, this issue can suddenly without warning cause accidents and put drivers in harms way.

3 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2021

I have an oil leak in my card. I had the car inspected and it was found there was an issue with the oil filter housing. The problem is that many many Jeeps have the exact some problem. I was told there was a back order of over 40k and I would have to want up to 6 months until I had the issue resolve. Jeep has not recalled the part. Jeep cannot tell me when the part will be made available. They have no efforts to help me remedy the situation at all, I. E. , offer a loaner car, take trade in, or even explain how they are going expedite the situation. I've contacted my Jeep certified dealer which only told to contact corporate. I'm filing this compliant because it appears to me Jeep has a major manufacturing issue with their Jeeps and have taken no steps to correct or help their customers in any way.

7 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2021

This year Jeep was equipped with a plastic engine oil cooler housing that is easily cracked when the oil is changed. I have had to replace it twice, and it is leaking again. Due to significant oil leaks and loss of oil in the engine, I took it to the Chrysler auto service center they told me the "lifters" in the engine are now 'tapping' probably from loss of oil pressure, and the cost to replace both the engine oil cooler housing, and the lifters will be another $1,900. I'm still trying to understand the thought process behind putting a plastic part on an engine knowing that hot oil travel through it????.

8 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2021

Oil filter housing is leaking oil, could be a fire issue.

9 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2020

Oil filter adapter failed. Slow oil leak and then garage flooring under vehicle was full of oil. Got vehicle to mechanic and had 1 qt left. Mechanic also had a Dodge van getting the same repair, same part, same part #. Seems to be a big problem with keep, Chrysler, Dodge per mechanic and internet. Also when at either a stop or even traveling on roadway, vehicle becomes jerky and have to either put in park and then back to drive or vehicle has to be restarted. Battery can drain from 13. 9 down to 12. 7 when this is happening. This current battery is the 4th battery for this vehicle.

10 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2020

I went to get my oil changed and was told and showed (in pictures taken by the attendant) that my vehicle has several oil leaks. The attendant also told me that it was a possibility that the vehicle could catch on fire because of the oil leaks. I was then asked if I had had any mechanical work done on my vehicle and I replied no since I hadn't had any work done other than maintenance. The manager then told me that I should be very angry and take my vehicle back to the dealership because it seemed like the engine and transmission were not put together properly which is why I have several oil leaks.

14 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2019

I took my vehicle into the dealership where I bought it to have a oil leak checked out. Was shown the problem and was quoted a repair price of $850. I later began investigating the problem when the technician stated it was a known issue with the model of my vehicle. Upon further investigation I have discovered that the NHTSA has a service bulletin for the issue; sb-10058301-5939. This is a potential fire risk, why has this not been addressed.

15 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2019

My car developed an oil leak, slow but steady, and after taking it in to be checked we learned that there was a large crack in the oil filter housing assembly. This along with upper and lower gaskets, will need to be completely replaced to the tune of $500-900. This piece is plastic, so is easy to crack if the filter is over tightened. I think this should be recalled and replaced with something sturdier.

16 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

Oil leak from cracked oil cooler. Could cause fire. Poor/defective design and bad location near heat. Needed an expensive replacement. Many others needed replacement also. Jeep customer care was no help.

17 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2018

Brought vehicle in to the dealership for repairs on several ocassions with complaints of vehicle jumping into gear. Recently had to replace the battery because vehicle wouldn't stay running and could not put into gear. Vehicle is currently at the dealership because it was leaking oil. Have been told that the oil cooler needs to be replaced. Have also been told that the drive shaft is noisy and should be replaced and that the air temperature ambient sensor needs to be replaced. I gave the go ahead to replace the oil cooler and air temperature ambient sensor. Told them to hold off on replacing the drive shaft as the repair alone for the oil cooler and sensor was going to be approximately $1,300. I then received a call back and was told that they changed the oil cooler and upon trying to start the vehicle it didn't want to start. They told me multiple codes were coming up and that my instrument cluster needed to be replaced at an additional cost of over $1,000. Estimate for all repairs to be $2,500 plus. Was also told that the instrument cluster is a special order and once ordered they would have to hold my vehicle for two weeks until it came in and could be installed. It is costing me $35. 00 a day for a rental vehicle through them. I estimate total cost for repairs and rental to be about $3,000. This cost does not include the replacing the drive shaft which they tell me is noisy.

18 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

Oil filter housing assembly is leaking. You can see oil leaking out of a port while running. Oil is puddling up and running down the motor. This can cause engine failure or a fire. . This vehicle was purchased certified pre owned; I am not sure if this is stil under warranty. Definitely is a safety hazard also the transmission on occasion shifts really hard when moving from one gear to the next.

After having the oil changed on my 2014 Jeep Cherokee a leak developed. When I took it to the a mechanic the oil filter housing was found to be broken. I spoke with the shop who changed the oil, they state they use a special tool that does not allow the cap to be torqued down to tightly as the oil filter housing breakage is a known issue with Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler products.

Oil filter housing has cracked and leaking oil.

22 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2017

My 2014 Jeep Cherokee latitude at 41000 miles had a brake failure. Now at 51000 miles the engine has been stalling while in motion and shifting into neutral. The dealership told me after the 2nd time in for this problem that the vehicle was 3. 5 quarts low on oil and the engine had shut off to "protect itself" . The car has been parked for in my garage for 3 days, after driving it for about 3 miles the check engine light came on, upon checking it is again low on oil. I have had the car serviced as recommended and don't understand this sudden oil use, there are no signs of leakage or smoking, and the warning system is not indicating low oil pressure. It is going back to the dealership Monday morning.

23 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2016

Vehicle has stalled twice at a 30 mph rate of speed due to oil low not empty. If vehicle should fall below 2 quarts of oil, vehicle may stall and stop working properly while in motion. My vehicle hold 4-5 quarts of oil and was not due for an oilchange and stalled twice while on residential road. Dealer stated my vehicle should remian a full level of oil in order for it to not stall!!! no oil leaks or mechanical issues were found during service.

24 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2015

2 times already I have had to take my car into the dealership because it would shut off randomly while driving. This has happened while on the highway and also while on busy streets. So far I have been able to drift to the side of the road, put the car in park and then turn the car off and back on. The car sputters when restarting and on multiple occasions will stall again. Both times they tried to blame it on the oil change being overdue. The 2nd time I had to have the car towed to the dealership and they stated there was no oil in the car. How a car loses oil if there isn't a leak, I'm not sure. This is now the third time it is happening and based on the car's computer I still have 30% to go before needing an oil change and the car is shutting off on me again randomly. I was at the dealership for the 2nd time less than 3 months ago. I drive in miami and have been lucky that my son was not in the car with me.
