The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that he noticed the esc 4-wd warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The mechanic stated that the powertrain transfer unit (ptu) assembly had failed with code: (c14a7-97) and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 157,715.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2021

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would stall upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The contact also stated that an unknown transmission warning light appeared on the instrument panel. The contact called the dealer where she purchased the vehicle but was placed on an extended hold. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 38,000.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2021

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle would shut off while driving at various speeds without warning. The contact also stated that the vehicle would start up and shut off independently without warning. Additionally, while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle began to shake uncontrollably without warning as the contact lost control of the vehicle. The contact was able to pull over and shut off the vehicle. After multiple attempts, the contact was able to restart the vehicle and resume normal driving. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer and an independent mechanic and both were unable to diagnose the failure since no warning lights had appeared on the instrument panel. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

4 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the 4-wheel drive warning light had illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer and diagnosed with a defective power transfer unit. The dealer also informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 20v343000 (power train). The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and informed that contact that recalls were VIN specific and that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
