Event 1 (Nov 2019) was passing a car, going 68 on freeway, got into right lane backed my foot off the gas to slow a bit and the car stayed in "passing gear" revved up high on the tach. And would not come back down until I took my foot completely off the gas. Event 2 (Nov 18, 2019) stopped at a stop sign, applied gas to go and it went nowhere. The engine sounded like it was going fast, but I was not in gear. I had to take my foot completely off the gas, the car lunged forward with two quick hops a couple of times then went into gear. Event 3 (Nov 20, 2019) going slow in a parking lot the car just died on me. No reason. This Jeep has only 28,000 miles on it. It shifts hard!! actually goes into gear at times so rough that it makes me lunge forward, it jerks a lot while going slow like it's not in the right gear. I am going to Jeep tomorrow to have it checked out, but after reading all these complaints, I see where I might be in for a long haul.
When driving the Jeep shift extremely hard into gear. Today we stopped at a red light and went to take off the car went to shift but would not shift into gear causing us to stop in the intersection almost getting hit. We had to place it into park and restart the car to get it to move back into gear. This is an ongoing issue. The dealer cannot find the issue and will not take the time to duplicate. They show no interest on trying to solve the issue, just passing the buck.
Car has completely stalled and locked up to a point where the steering wheel cannot be moved, hazard lights will not turn on, cannot change the gear at all. Had to have a flat bed tow because the wheels were locked, tow driver had to use dish soap to get the wheels to slide up the ramp. Jeep dealership first replaced the battery, then replaced the bcm and it is still a solid brick. They have no idea what is wrong. This has cost me $600 so far without even a repair. My 17 year old daughter is driving this dangerous car. I have seen the forums and this is a common problem with this Jeep, it needs a recall. As soon as we can get it running again, we will be trading it in. I can't have her in a death trap, it stalls without warning and we had to put the hood up to warn other drivers because the hazards wouldn't even turn on. This car only has 23000 miles on it, it should really not be doing this.
The service shifter message displays on the screen and you can't tell if the the is in dprn becuase all the lights are red. The car sometimes will not shift out of gear. Or jerks when it finally does. This care hesitates while in motion and as well as when stationary and trying to move. This is very dangerous. I have taken this vehicle to the dealer who stated that the recall they had was only for a software update with the shifter but this issue should also be a recall with them covering the repairs. I have less than 50k miles there is no reason why I should have to cover the expense of replacing the shifter assembly becuase the shifter is not covered under the warranty they sell you.
During an out of town trip (highway) drive with the family on easter Sunday, my 2016 Jeep Cherokee limited transmission suddenly locked into 8th gear and wouldn't accelerate past 2000 rpms. Check engine light and "service transmission" appeared on the control panel. In order to not be stranded, we drove the car in 8th gear for 3. 5 hours back home. Car would not change gears, nor accelerate. We luckily were not involved in an accident. Upon arriving at the dealership (closed for holiday), another Jeep owner was there dropping off his car as his was stuck in 3rd gear and couldn't accelerate past 45 mph. The service department just called me back now (next day) and said that transmission error is a software problem and needs to be upgraded. Why would the car need an upgrade and make the transmission inoperable while I'm in motion inside the car? infuriating!.
The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that on several occasions while attempting to drive, the transmission failed to shift gears. The engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the software needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was then taken back to the dealer where the dealer stated that they had no record of the software being updated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. However, the contact stated that the manufacturer advised her to take the vehicle back to the dealer but did not offer any further assistance. The failure mileage was 21,000.
I was pulling out of a parking lot on to a city street in the middle of school traffic. I pressed the accelerator and my Jeep bucked really hard. I tried to get it going but it would not go passed 1st gear. I basically coasted back to my home and called Jeep to have it towed to the dealer.
