55 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/20/2011

I purchased my 2008 Jeep Commander in may2011, about two weeks after I had the vehicle, I went to start it one day and it would not start. I opened the hood and tested my battery, no problems with it, so I turned the key again and it started. I continued to have this issues every since, sometimes it will go two weeks starting fine and then out of the blue it will not start. The latest incident happened on 14 sept 2011, this was the first time that the vehicle would not start at all (usually when this happens it will start after a few minutes) so on this day I had it towed to a garage, they told me they couldnt find nothing wrong with it, but said maybe you just need a new battery, so I purchased a battery for the Jeep installed it and for two days it was great, so I thought ok maybe it has been the battery after all this time. Today 18 sept 2011, it happened again, but this time it started after 5 minutes. I started researching the problem online, and this is when I learned of the recalls for multiple reasons on these vehicles. I live in upstate new york and winter is approaching, I dont want to be stranded with my family somewhere. I just really want to know exactly what is going on before I put money into a never ending problem.

56 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/12/2011

2007 Jeep Commander limited. Vehicle began stalling with no warning at low speeds. Jeep dealer has been unable to properly diagnose problem. Computer Jeep engineers have worked with the dealer and they also have been unable to properly diagnose problem. I have spent roughly $5000. 00 replacing modules, etc that they think may be causing the problem. The only thing this has done is aggravate the problem. The last incident occurred while passing a double tanker truck on a two lane road, engine stalled at the time I was right next to the truck. Only thing I could do was since I was going downhill, my momentum took me past the truck, I cut in front of him and made it over to the shoulder and stopped. Vehicle would not start until I put it into park, pulled the key and restarted it. Vehicle has been in the dealer's shop more than out of it for the last 15 months-they're stymied and frustrated with Jeep engineers. Comment made by Jeep's customer service representative: " on my, that's dangerous". It's very frustrating that Jeep will not admit there is a problem with this model and fix it, especially since they have recalled other models/years with the same problem. Also frustrating that they won't go online and listen to the people who are driving these problem vehicles. Their comment is- you can't put any stock in what you read online. It's for sure that I will never purchase another Jeep nor would I ever recommend them to anyone-except maybe someone I didn't like.

57 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 04/29/2011

Engine stalls: engine stalls randomly, at a light, around a corner, and even on freeway at 70 mph. Engine will not restart after a stall until the key has been removed from the ignition. I have had at least 15-20 stalls since I have owned the vehicle. Transmission jerks: this started in the last few months. Transmission disengages while driving down the road then suddenly reengages, jerking the car forward. Sometimes the car will continue ok, sometimes the engine will die. Electrical issues: not a safety issue but maybe related, I have had numerous problems with my nav system going dark (won't display until engine restarted) - lost settings. Rear dvd has totally gone out. Dealer says there is a code for "lost communication with radio" due to an open short. Last incident: 04/11/2012 (51000 miles): on interstate 75 mph - took foot off the accelerator to slow down and felt like the engine had died (lost momentum and was coasting). I applied the gas and the rpm's o the engine increased but the car did not gain speed. Felt like transmission had disengaged. The car jerked forward like the transmission reengaged. Momentum was returned for about 1 second then disengaged again. The second time, the engine died and I had to coast to the side of the interstate. Car restarted and I was able to continue down the road. After driving for another 3 hours, the "service 4wd" message came up on the display. Pulled to the side of the road, turned the car off and back on, same message came up. Continued driving to my destination - message cleared. After the car sat in the parking lot for several hours, went back out and started it, the message was gone and has not reappeared. Dealer had car 6 days - there are no codes in the system. They can not duplicate issue. Vehicle dying on freeway is very dangerous and I have small children, please investigate.

Vehicle would not start and we had experienced this off and on so we replaced the battery. Within a month, car would not start again. While trying to get it started the lights came on, no start. Waited, tried again, dimmer lights; waited again nothing! electrical system totally non functioning. We have also had stalling issues and car automatically changing gears. It feels like it just can't get speed up and not even a high rate, just in town. I was driving and noticed the gear went from drive to 3rd! 65 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 03/16/2009

The problem started today out of the blue on a cold wet day. I drove home from work at 7am in the rain and parked. At 2pm I tried to start the vehicle and it wouldn't start. It would just stall. After several attempts at starting it, it would just stall. Then it wouldn't start at all so I let it sit for a while. When I went to start it again, it would start but all the lights were flashing, the radio was going on and off, the windshield wipers would go and stop. I rented a code reader that read u1411, no connection to the problem so I cleared the code and it fixed the problem for about an hour. Now it doesn't fix it. Jeep says they don't know unless I take it in for a diagnostic. But I looked online and found lots and lots of Jeep owners having the exact same complaint. All of their complaints started the same way, in the rain and without warning and they were all fixed the same way, replacing the ignition switch. It appears to me that there is a problem but Jeep isn't addressing the problem. I don't think I should have to go pay them to diagnose and fix a problem that they already know about, but won't admit!.
