Failure Date: 03/23/2019

Began experiencing issues with starting at all after the ignition switch recall was worked on and resolved. The Jeep won't start at different times, different weather conditions. The proper positioning and the vehicle acknowledging it being in park is an issue. The Jeep requires parking to be forced -using the gear lever shift from drive to park and look for the jolt to indicate it's in the appropriate gear, in park.

39 Power Train problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/11/2018

Tamara recall the Jeep will cut off randomly while driving down the road. It will also make attempts to cut off while driving at 60 mph and below. The esp light and traction control light will come on. Once able to get the Jeep stopped with out getting in an accident it will restart and all lights will go off. This has happened now 3 times with in 4 days with it cutting completely off and 5 times trying to while driving. The 1st time it was on a highway going about 50 miles and hour. The 2nd time I was getting off the interstate while going around a curve going about 30 miles an hr. The 3rd time I was doing 35 miles an hr on a busy street. The times that it has attempted to shut off but didn't I was going between 45 and 60 miles an hr. This is unsafe for anyone to be driving and have happen. It can cause me to have accident and or to cause a accident. This can cause serious harm and loss of life. I am not sure if it is the ignition switch or an issue with the motor or wiring. Something is wrong. I see on other forums that I am not the only one having this issue. I have contacted the dealership that I have recently purchased this Jeep from I am scared to drive it. I am in fear for myself and kids and others.

47 Power Train problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/11/2017

Bought Jeep brand new. Only couple months later my fob wouldnt start car. Just dead. Tried to start 20 times both fobs. Randomly started next day. Brought to dealer they were perplexed replaced fob. Several times through the years Jeep wont start with fob and then randomly does had it towed 2 times. I dont trust to take it far. Once when driving on street. Jeep just shut off. Very scary I looked at panel no lights no nothing. I was lucky I wasnt on a highway or cause an accident. No power steering forgot no power cant steer. Veered over took fob out , prayed. . Started up. I didnt hit it with my knee (ive read that could happen)also my fob always had a good battery. I know there are several recalls on my make and model that match my issues but when I check my VIN # it doesnt come up. I have other issues that match recalls also that I will use the other categories. The date will be the time I was driving since was most dangerous.

48 Power Train problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/08/2017

While driving at slow speeds, the vehicle stalls out, obviously resulting in a loss of power steering & brakes. This has happened 50+/- times over the last 2 years of my ownership. The problem has intensified over the last 2 weeks, but would always re start after shifting into park. Last night (10/8/2017) it happened again. This time while merging onto a highway at 55 mph. The vehicle suddenly lost power as I coasted to the side of the highway. This time it would not start & I had to have the vehicle towed. Through on-line research, this is a common problem on the Jeep Commander (4. 7l) dating back to when the vehicles were new. The fix for the problem varies greatly. Given the timeline for this problem, its obvious this is a problem that daimler Chrysler (now fiat Chrysler USA) is aware of & makes no attempt at a solution.

49 Power Train problem of the 2009 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 09/24/2017

Identical issue as found with NHTSA # 10908927 vehicle stalls while driving and cannot be restarted without putting the vehicle in park. Purchased the vehicle used with 170,000 miles on it. Carfax shows great care into the vehicle, however within first 24 hours after purchase have found it to stall while driving and at idle near 6x. Have taken to auto repair shop/autozone/used ifixit code finder and nothing is found. This has created hazardous driving conditions as it will happen at random.

50 Power Train problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 08/10/2017

Like countless other owners of this vehicle form years 2006-2007, the "transmission over temperature" light has been going on and off for years. I've spend over $1500 on repair for all things surrounding the transmission, only for the light to continue to come on. Some people have even noted that they were stranded for hours due to this - it's obviously not just one person's experience with the car, and a quick glance online will show the depths of issues people are having with the transmission and the light on this vehicle.

51 Power Train problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/21/2017

1st my car has been having starting issues. The fuel pump was changed twice and that's not the issue. It seems to be coming from the wiring heading into the fuse panel in the engine. When I move it around it starts sometimes. And also when I put black tape around the wires it seems to correct the issues for weeks at a time. The problem is u never know when its gonna start or not. Now my engine, traction control and esp/bas warning lights are coming on. When that happens the transmission starts going haywire and feels like its only running on 1 gear plus when I reverse it feels like something grinds in the gears. However when those warning lights go off everything seems to go back to normal. Recently all the warning lights came on and the transmission over temp warning came on and my ac stopped blowing cold air and shortly after the car stalled in traffic on the highway. Thank god I was able to restart it but then it felt like the car drove all the way home using 2nd gear only in the automatic transmission. From reading other issues people are having online its obvious this model is having major electrical issues that no one seems to be able to correct. I am a Jeep lover but this model has completely made it difficult on me since its my only car and its so unreliable. I don't have the means to replace it right now so this situation has been unfortunate for me.

55 Power Train problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

Jeep complaint case # 31436177. I am having a no crank no start issue with bogus error message that reads transmission over temp. I have taken the vehicle to three different places and no one can identify why the vehicle will not start or find anything wrong with the transmission or wiring. . . . . . . That is causing this issue. The Jeep started having this issue intermittently in February 2017 and now it will not start at all as of April 2017. Electrical mechanic is baffled and can not find any thing wrong with the Jeep even though it does not start at all anymore. Since February 2017 after this issue started I have had the computer updated to fix the problem, I have had the ignition switch replaced to solve this problem, I have had the transmission cooler lines and transmission fluid changed out to fix this problem and still the vehicle will not start intermittently and now will not start at all as of a week and a half ago. I was also told that it might be the key not being recognized by the Jeep and would need to be reprogrammed but this is not the issue either. This is not the first issue I have had with this vehicle either. I also had the wiring harness catch fire inside the driver side door boot shortly after purchasing the vehicle that caused windows, locks. . . . . . . Not to function and have had numerous issues with water pouring in from drains from the sunroof flooding the vehicle and ruining the carpet on both the driver and passenger side of the vehicle also causing a mold smell.

56 Power Train problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 01/09/2017

After receiving n23 recall and other software updates (p73) the 4 wheel drives system disables at random. This has to be repaired at dealer. Error code points to shift actuator, but in reality it is software. If errors are cleared parts function fine. Loss of 4 wheel drive can be a life threatening. Since most of the time 4 wheel drive is needed is when not near help. My vehicle has been having this issue ongoing since 2013. Chrysler has been contacted since 2014 with starcases. Issue has yet to be resolved. Latest break down left me stranded while on vacation and having to pay for repairs. The 4 wheel drive shifting fails randomly, it can be while driving or stationary. It can happen when trying to engage 4 wheel drive or just driving down street and service 4wd system warning comes on. Error can be corrected sometimes by pulling fuse for final drive control module other times requires dealer to reapply software flash. Some dealers refuse to try this and just proceed to charge to replace shift actuator motor. . Read more...

57 Power Train problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/14/2016

58 Power Train problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

After application of the n23 software flash, 4wd low is no longer available. When attempting to shift in 4wd low, the only reactions is a service 4wd message. The dealership nor Chrysler/Jeep will assume responsibility for breaking the final drive and want to charge exorbitant fees for troubleshooting.

59 Power Train problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 09/26/2016

61 Power Train problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 08/19/2016

62 Power Train problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 06/13/2016

Regardless of distance traveled, outside temperature, the 'transmission over temp' message appears on the dash. Had coolant flushed 2x but message still appears intermittently. Had mechanic look at more than a few times, however could not replicate message and thus no resolution/fix to problem. Jeep recently had ignition switch recall completed (thought that would never happen) but 'transmission over temp' would occur prior to that recall being completed. Thought the two were connected somehow. Main concern is the engine does not overhear, temp reads below middle mark but when transmission message appears, after a few minutes, transmission feels 'off' or jumpy. Something is definitely happening. Not safe to drive, not confident taking it on long trips because of possible damage that may occur, not to mention being stranded. This is my girlfriends truck and I'm not comfortable having her drive too far, especially in the evening. His is inconvenient because we take care of our vehicles, this truck has low miles, 62,000. Would really like to resolve this because we love the trick but cannot trust taking it on trips, towing our boat which was the original purpose of having truck. What a stressful vehicle to have. Very dissatisfied with this truck. Again, the transmission over temp would occur intermittently, on the highway at times, in traffic, small trips, after sitting parked after a short trip, message reappears once truck is started again. No rhyme of reason to this.

63 Power Train problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/08/2016

When driving on the highway the vehicles engine just stops. Power steering is gone if you have to maneuver out of the way it's very difficult when decelerating it seems to down shift very hard like going form 4th to 1st the dash lights flash randomly when ever they feel like it. Vehicle had the ignition switch fixed with the prior recall, but I am still having an issue with the engine light which has turned on and the vehicle slows down and seems to go into neutral while driving. This occurs around 20 mph, local roads and luckily not on a highway yet and if I press the accelerator nothing occurs and the traction control light flashes.
