1 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 08/14/2013

I purchasedmy 2007jeepcommander on august05,2013 with 117,578 miles on it. Within a week, I was driving approx. 30 mphwheninoticedthevehiclefeelinglike it had a hard time accelerating, whenitslowed down completely but did not shut off. Panicking, I kept pressingtheacceleratorandmovedtheshifter out of gear when the vehicle jerked and resumed back up to speed. A few days later the vehicle, while traveling at approximately 50 mph completely slowed down again but did not come to a complete stop and service park assist illuminated onthedashboardwithall the gears lit up at the same time as if saying the Jeep was in all gears at the same time. Within a couple of hours the check engine light came on. I brought the vehicle to a repair shop, were they scanned the code and told me it wasn't a "real code" probably a computer malfunction and it should turn off on its own, which it did, a day later. This has happened at least 8 different times throughout the 5 months of owning this vehicle. Finally I looked onlinefor recalls, there is a power-train and electrical recall for the time my Jeep was manufactured, explaining all the same troubles I've been having, however when I called Chrysler customer service, I was advised I had a side airbag recall but nothing on power-train. When I told the representative that the warranty was for my vehicle in the time it was manufactured she told me it wasn't in the system and that if I wanted it fixed I would have to go to the dealership pay for it and keep my receipt and when Chrysler came out with a recall for my Jeep I could come forward. Meanwhile, I'm driving around in a documented unsafe vehicle with my 18 month old in the back and I have to either wait for this car to cause an accident or enough people complain and they issue another recall. Please help, I just want this vehicle to be safe for my children.

3 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 04/21/2009

We bought a 2007 Jeep Commander v6 in July/August of '08 and have constantly had problems with the esm (electronic shift module) during the first few visits they stated that "problem could not be duplicated" and they would flash the vehicles computer and it would run for awhile then finally the check engine light came on and got the vehicle in and found it was the esm which was finally replaced in Apr '09 after numerous attempts to have them fix. Since it was still under the 3yr/36k warranty it was at no cost. Now it has gone out again less than a year later and our warranty has expired and Jeep states that their part warranty (which should be 12mo/12k) expired along with the factory warranty and we are out of luck. The part was replaced as a "goodwill" gesture which was told to me by a customer service agent and does not have any part warranty. As I was investigating whether or not it was a common problem I noticed that the v8 models of the Commander had a recall for the auto transmissions but the v6 does not. It was quite scary driving down the interstate at 70 then suddenly losing power and power steering especially with my 2yr old and 8yr old in the SUV. The vehicle would go into "limp" mode and wouldn't shift out of 3rd gear and go faster than 25mph, rpms wouldn't raise past 3k, and it would shift hard into gear. The fact that Jeep will not warranty that part and all the other problems I've read from other people on forums, complaints, etc. About this should warrant a investigation into this matter.

4 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 09/15/2008

I lease a 2007 Jeep Commander. I noticed, to start, that the engine would not accelerate at a low speed. At first it felt like my foot was not quite on the accelerator so I dismissed the first couple of incidences. More recently however, my vehicle will occasionally stop accelerating at about 15 miles per hour. With my foot fully on the accelerator, the vehicle will not go ( the engine is not stalled ). It definitely feels like the vehicle is shifting automatically into neutral when I try to accelerate. The engine light on my control panel illuminates. The problem has become worse. The vehicle will stop accelerating at higher speeds and the park, reverse, neutral, and drive symbols all illuminate on my control panel - suggesting that I am in all those positions. I took my Commander in to the dealership to be checked on October 6, 2008 and they said absolutely nothing wrong. I do not understand this because my vehicle is blatantly not working properly - an accident waiting to happen if I cannot move my vehicle at an appropriate speed to cross intersections etc. . I have to put my hazards on and pull over when this happens, now on a daily basis. I will not drive it distances because I am afraid that it could shift out of gear on the highway which would be dangerous. I did take it to a local car store where they did a diagnostic scan and found the code u0404 that invalid data was received from the gear shifter. I do not know what to do now that I have a vehicle that Chrysler says nothing is wrong with but does not work. I do think that this is clearly a dangerous problem to have.
