43 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/14/2011

Took vehicle for yearly inspection where the car was purchased, new. They were at that time a Chrysler Jeep dealer. It didnt pass the inspection due to the poor condition of the ball joints - mileage at that time was only 14,258. It was suggested I contact Chrysler to notify them. They advised me to take it to a local qualified dealership. It was taken for them to check the ball joints. After 2 weeks of not driving the car due to its dangerous condition, the ball joints and both lower control arms were replaced at a cost to me of $214. 00. The treatment I received and the amount of time it took them to decide to do the job at the "qualified dealer" was inexcuseable. I feel Chrysler should of taken care of the cost of the repair, since it was not due to anything I did but the quality of the parts installed originally. This complaint would of been submitted earlier but I was not aware of the NHTSA.

45 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2009 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 03/29/2011

2009 Jeep Compass, with 31,278 miles showed excessive wear in both the left lower control arm and outer tie rod end. Though covered under warranty, the lower control arm issue is reflective of our similar experience with our 2007 Jeep patriot. The NHTSA should investigate both the Jeep Compass and patriots for a design flaw in the lower control arm. A lower control/ball joint/tie rod failure, at highway speed, can result in a fatal accident.

47 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2008 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 01/19/2011

Normal driving conditions. Live in ohio. I was told today that the left lower control arm and control arm pivot bolts need replaced. Apparently, the ball joint bearing inside the lower control arm is already bad. Chrysler Jeep has not greased the bearing when packing the ball joint into the control arm; therefore by skipping this process this could lead to lose of control while driving if control arm fails while driving. My vehicle is only 2 years old. Apparently, Jeep has decided to skip this little step when manufacturing my Jeep Compass.

49 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 10/11/2010

Passenger side lower front ball joint,(front was shaking while driving and had to be replaced) driver side front outer tie rod,(steering wheel was shaking while driving) both rear upper control arms. ( was not diagnosed until I was having wheel alignment done. ) but rear tires were damaged from these parts being worn. . Had to replace all these parts. Only have rear upper control arms and tie rod. Owners opinion is that factory wheels are to big for this vehicle and causing to much pressure on these parts.

50 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 08/17/2010

What do ya know. . . . Control arm and ball joints going out at 50,000 miles. . . . Problem is your warranty wont cover and you can grease something now a days. So im out 500 bucks. One day woman is going to crash because of this issue and then will see what Chrysler does. . . Horrible! just wrong I say!.

51 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/28/2010

I bought my Jeep Compass less than a year ago with 42,000 miles. Its now about 10 months later and I have 46,000 miles on this Jeep (I. E. I don't drive it a ton) I have done zero off roading and I always try to avoid potholes and bad roads. Took it in to investigate some loud noises coming from front. . . Only to find out that my lower control arms have to be replaced due to bad ball joints, outer tie rods on both sides in the front, and new brakes and front left rotor needed to be replaced. I find these problems to be absurd, considering the amount of miles on this vehicle. All of this costing over $1000 to repair. Jeep needs to stand behind their product and clearly recall these issues. I am not happy after reading all of the similar problems of other Jeep Compass owners; and it makes me even more upset to learn that most of these problems are re-occurring within 2-3 yrs. This needs to be addressed. . Orjeep will be losing my business in the future. . . Thanks!.

52 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/23/2010

Last summer, I had to have my front outer tie rod ends replaced at 65,000 miles. At that time I had new brake pads installed. A few months later, I started getting vibration in the steering wheel upon braking and I also was told I had uneven tire wear. I took it to the local Chrysler/Jeep dealer; they alligned it. They never told me that the steering vibration may be caused by bad ball joints. The steering problem didn't entirely go away after the allignment; it steadily got worse. I finally took it to an indpependent mechanic yesterday and they told me I need new ball joints and control arms in the front. I also need one new rotor and the other rotor turned. (this is after I had new brake pads installed about eight months ago and the rotors were fine at that time). I was quoted $663. 56 for this work that included another allignment. I have had to replace 50,000 mile tires once at $600. 00 and two more times on the front at about $350. 00 each time. The vehicle has about 107,000 miles on it today. My complaints are 1). I drive with a two year old in the car frequently. This is a blatant safety risk that Jeep is doing nothing about. There are multiple complaints and this should have been a safety recall. And 2). , the money that I've had to spend on this car-replacing front brake pads, new rotors, ball joints, control arms, tie rod ends and tires is ridiculous. I don't have much faith in the dealership since they didn't idenitify the ball joint problem when they should have. I may never buy another Jeep product and I will certainly tell anyone that asks the experience that I have had with this car.

53 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/20/2010

Took 2007 Jeep Compass in for oil change, mentioned rattling noise in front end. Mechanic found that both lower control arms/ball joints need to be replaced. Jeep only 3 years old and guess what warranty expired! total repair costs ~ 700 dollars. No recall as of yet, but there should be considering countless other Compass owners are experiencing the very same problem.

54 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/07/2010

Front end would shake when coasting at 40 mph. Took the car in to the dealers with 44,179 miles and they told me I needed to replace frt lower control arms left outer tie and rt inner tie rod cause they were all worn out. So they replaced them all. All new parts and $1034. 00.

55 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 04/13/2010

2007 Jeep Compass with 41,000 miles. Took it in for oil change and to investigate clunking noise in the front end. Mechanic discoverd left and right side lower control arms/ball joints badly worn. Cost to repair. . . $900.

56 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 04/06/2010

Took 2007 Jeep Compass in for oil change. Mechanic said that car was dangerous to drive as ball joints and control arms needed replaced and were so loose that they may cause accident. Because of cost of repair, took car to Jeep dealer for servicing to get a second opinion. They confirmed that the ball joints and control arms do need replaced and that they are dangerously loose. Car is unsafe to drive. Repair estimate is $935 although I'm trying to negotiate since this seems to be a defect with the car.

57 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 03/12/2010

Loss of control where the car jerked as if I had hit a patch of ice (in the spring with 50ã‚â° weather) anytime I steered to the left. Have had the ball joints/control arms replaced 4 times since.

58 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 09/22/2009

I have a 2007 Jeep Compass 4x4. Started out with banging noises coming from the front. I have replaced both struts (38000 miles). Noise was still there, found out that I needed a right front tie rod and lower control arm (45000 miles) replaced. A few months later I am now hearing squeaking noises and rattling. Just found out that I now have to have the left lower control arm replaced. Like all the other complaints that I have seen, the problems that I am having are the exact same. This is not right!! the car is under 50,000 miles (all highway) and should not be having these kinds of issues. I have never run into this with any other type of vehicle that I have owned. I think this needs to be investigated before something awful happens. My mechanic tells me that he sees alot of this with the Compass and patriot models. Jeep used cheaper parts to make the vehicle affordable. Great, except the consumer will not buy another Jeep product after this. I know that I won't. They need to own up to this and help it's customers with the repair issues. There are too many of them and they are all identical. Please investigate this issue. Severe safety issues going on here. I don't know how people can do business like this. Thank you.

59 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2008 Jeep Compass

60 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2008 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/07/2008

I bought my Compass new in June, 2008. I complained about a cracking noise coming from the right front end the 2nd day I had the car. I brought it back to the dealer & they replaced the r/f axle. It still made the same cracking noise. I took it back & the dealer said the bolts on the control arm weren't tightened properly. Still the same noise, so I went on line looking for any tsbs. I read about front end problems with 2007 Dodge calibers & 2007 Jeep Compasses & patriots particularly with the ball joints. Turns out that undersized bolts were installed in the control arms. By now I felt that the car was not safe to drive & when I took it back to the dealer & the service tech said let's take a test drive, I refused & told him to drive it himself, as I wasn't going to get back behind the wheel until they solved the problem (reminding them of the lemon law, as this was the 3rd time I was there for the same problem). While the dealer insisted that my car was not one of the cars listed in the TSB, they did replace the control arm bolts with new ones & replaced the stabilizer links. In Feb. Of 2009 my dad purchased a 2008 Compass & it had the same noise. I took it to the dealer & they replaced the control arm bolts. Since then there have been no problems or noises, although my Jeep only has 17k miles. Do your homework & check out tsbs. You just might solve your own problem.
