38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2022

Malfunction of the engine rpm governor, adaptive cruise control, or electronic throttle control (etc), or some combination of all of the above. On June 7-9, 2022, spontaneous high engine rpm occurred, which resulted in vehicle speeds that were above urban speed limits unless heavy braking pressure was applied. Additionally, on rural highways, the speed setting for the adaptive cruise control was exceeded without driver input. This also required manual breaking in order to control speed. During this situation, the “driver override “ message would appear although no accelerator pedal pressure was being applied. Additionally, the etc warning light would randomly light up and then clear. When the vehicle was stopped and placed in park, the engine would rev to approximately 4000-5000 rpm. Especially in congested traffic conditions, this runaway engine rpm condition is a terrifying situation. This malfunction has occurred on this vehicle before, and to a similar extent. However, the Jeep dealer could find no underlying cause. The vehicle will also occasionally operate at a higher than normal rpm, but not to the extent described here. I do have an appointment with my local Jeep dealer for June 21. I will describe the issue with them in detail. My purpose for entering this report is to add my issue to any potential list of other Jeep owners who may have reported a similar issue.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2022

Recall 14v5300 - replacing fuel pump relay to prevent vehicle not starting and stalling was performed in November 2021. It has not solved the problem. Th Grand Cherokee still does the same thing. I replaced the relay that was replaced in the recall. No help. Chrysler corp. Did not fix the problem. A new recall needs to happen. This Grand Cherokee has stalled slowing down to come to a stop and when slowing down to turn at an intersection. This is very dangerous. It could cause an accident at the intersection. This recall needs to be revisited or a new recall needs to happen to solve this problem. Thank you reid a. Van kirk.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2022

Battery light came on then went off so I thought maybe it was all the rain we had? when locking my car I noticed the horn was very low. I replaced my battery last year so I knew that was good. When I tried to start I got nothing! tried jumping without any luck. Had it towed to my mechanic who could smell the burning parts. Changed the battery, alternator and is now changing the computer. Not only has this been very expensive to fix but the thought of it just happening while I was driving still is on my mind! not much of a warning! I am just lucky the whole car didn't go up in flames!.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2022

I was leaving home from work and my car started perfectly fine and I drove like 50ft and the car completely shut down. I tried to jump it car to car but it was draining the other car batteries so I got a tow truck to come out and it jumped the car enough to get it in neutral and then it cut off. I changed the battery and alternator and it cuts on them after about 5-10 min it completely cuts off and won’t turn back on again. Lights on the dashboard pop up too before it cuts off.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2021

I have gone back and forth to the dealership since I purchased my Jeep. It’s been a horrific time dealing with all of the issues. Seatbelt sensor’s, windshield sensor, fuel pump problem over and over. I’m alive by the grace of god, while on the freeway the Jeep latterly stop. Completely died on me. Nothing to warned me simply shut off. For the longest all I got from the dealership was no replacement was available. Finally in December 2021 it was replaced. But right after I drove off the lot the air bag light came on, I returned to the service department and once the service technician turned on the Jeep- nothing came on. So I went home a few weeks later the same thing on and then off . It would stay on for a couple of days then off. Now it’s on for months and off for about a day two the most. The lights on the dashboard are continuous flickering on and off. I’m so tired of all of the problems this vehicle has it’s ridiculous. I need some one to please look into this. I have spent over $5000. 00 dollars on diagnostic testing and repairs from extra work other then the normal expense’s. I’m at the end of my patience with this.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2021

In March 2021 my wife’s 2011jeep Grand Cherokee was at naples Chrysler-Jeep for a stalling problem where while driving, the car’s engine would stop while moving in traffic. Power steering and brakes lost power thereby making it nearly impossible to steer or stop without coasting to the side of the road. There was no warning from the vehicle that there was a problem. Once the car coasted to a stop, my wife was able to put the car in park and restart the car. This happened 4 or 5 times before taking it in for maintenance. After 2 weeks looking for a problem, they replaced a fuel pump relay in the tipm. Again, in late July the car repeated the stall while driving 2 times. The car is currently at naples Chrysler Jeep where techs are trying to duplicate the problem with no success. No codes came up during computer testing. We are reluctant to drive the vehicle if the technicians can’t locate and fix the problem before returning the car to us. Because of the sudden nature of the stall, we fear we could crash causing serious injury or death.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2021

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Alternator shorted and/or failed diode causing a fire under the hood. Started the vehicle and heard a strange noise from under the hood. Turned the vehicle off and opened the hood. Upon opening the hood smoke bellowed out. I could see an electrical component inside the alternator glowing red. The component glowed red and smoked until the battery was completely drained. While the vehicle didn't start on fire if it had this could have caused a large amount of damage as at the time of the incident the vehicle was parked inside a airport parking garage. Jeep has a recall for 2012 - 2014 models. The 2011 model year needs to be added to the recall. The failed alternator is available for inspection. Failed component: alternator, available for inspection safety/risk: vehicle fire problem confirmed by dealer: vehicle still in garage, to be towed 7/26/2021 component inspected: no warnings: unusual noise.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2021

While driving, an electric fire started in my Jeep due to a vanity lamp short (NHTSA campaign number: 15v879000) which is a known issue: Chrysler (fca us llc) recalled certain model year 2011-2013 Dodge durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured December 3, 2009, to September 1, 2012. "in the affected vehicles, the wiring for the vanity lamp in the sun visor may short circuit, after having been remedied for a prior recall for the vanity lamp wiring. " I had this recall completed in November of 2017, which was confirmed by the manufacturer during my phone conversation today. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. My safety and others was at extreme risk as I was driving when this fire occurred above my head and I had to quickly pull over and exit my vehicle in a very busy area. There was also melting material dripping from the visor that nearly reached me in the driver's seat, but thankfully I was able to move out of the way and it melted my driver seat instead (as shown in picture). The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. The vehicle has not been inspected yet by the manufacturer or insurance representatives or any others, it is at the Jeep dealership and I am waiting to hear back from the manufacturer on next steps for the extensive damage before anything is done.

58 Electrical System problem

We had the latest recall repair completed for stalling while driving, it was a fuel pump relay I believe. I think we had it repaired in February/March. However this morning while driving to work our Jeep stalled while slowing down to turn, the battery stayed on but the engine completely stalled & the power steering went out almost causing us to drive off the road. Luckily the brakes still worked but we had a semi behind us that nearly missed us as it also turned onto the same road.
