My car sometimes it doesn't start and keeps cranking. But the most dangerous is when it shuts off while driving. I took it to Jeep service but they didn't find what causes the issues. It keeps stalling. Doesn't happen every day and all the time but it's happening more frequently.
Twice on two separate occasions, when going about 25 miles an hour on a town road and breaking and turning to the right (one time was more right than the other), my car loses power out of no where. My engine shuts off, I lose power steering, and I lose my break assist. It is very scary and dangerous and could cause a life threatening accident. I crossed over into the opposite lane of traffic with little to no control. Fortunately both times no one was near me and I was able to come to a stop. I can then restart the car and drive away. I dont know how to replicate the issue. I have seen other reports of this same problem with other Grand Cherokees on the internet. I dont know if the current recall that I need is supposed to address it or not but I plan on calling my dealer about it ASAP. My car is about 149k miles. I think the lights stay on when this happens.
The car just shuts down when going down the road,we have almost been in two accidents on the highway when the Jeep just shut down at speed and now the car wont even start, dearlership was of no help.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving about 30 mph with her child, the vehicle stalled. As the vehicle was turned to veer off the road, the vehicle shut down without warning. The contact noticed smoke from underneath the hood. The contact's companion opened the hood and noticed that the alternator was on fire and burnt out completely. The fire extinguished when the hood was opened. The vehicle was towed to the river oaks Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram dealer, located 4807 kirby dr, houston, TX 77098 where it was stated that there was no recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. Fe.
I was driving down the highway at 60mph when I let off the gas and hot the brakes to slow down for a corner the engine shut down and I lost breaks and steering. I was able to muscle the steering through the corner and coasted to a stop. I put the Jeep in park, got the break pedal and started the vehicle back up. Everything seemed to work again. When I lost the engine, breaks and steering nothing else was effected. I still had lights, radio and gauges. But, no warning lights or codes came on.
Takata recall. When my vehicle is in motion arriving at an intersection, and I decrease the speed, the engine shuts down and at the same time the steering wheel is stuck, making it impossible to turn, and the brakes get hard. I have already taken the car 3 times to the Jeep shop and they have not been able to fix this problem. Since this problem started 2 months have passed and it has already happened 4 times. The car does not show any errors on the screen or afterwards when they are read. It is very dangerous because it always stays in the middle of the intersection without being able to do anything.
While driving the vehicle shuts off completely. Try restarting may take several attempts. There is no response from the engine not turning over, starter not engaging. Once it starts it drives fine until the next occurrence. This also happens quite often when first trying to start the car as well.
The vehicle consistently shuts off while I'm driving, losing power steering and engine power. It seems to occur when I am slowing down. This happens usually once/twice each week and most recently almost caused a high speed accident, as my car shut off while I was making a left turn on a highway, which caused a semi truck to swerve, nearly hitting me and my 4 year old son.
Alternator p60 I NHTSA 14v-634 Chrysler has decided that a defect, \vhich relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2011 through 2014 model year Dodge challenger, Dodge charger, Dodge durango, Chrysler 300 and 2012 through 2014 model year Jeep. Grand cherokee vehicles equipped ,vith a 160 an1p alternator. My Jeep Grand Cherokee is a 2011 and experienced to exact alternator malfunction as described in this recall. Chrysler does not recognize my car in this recall. According to the recall, p60 I NHTSA 14v-634 the problem is . . The alternator diodes in your vehicle may experience a rapid failure. Variability in the failure m node ranges from no output, reduced output, and/or a fully shorted to ground condition. Depending on the alternator failure mode and timing, vehicle electrical system voltage may drop to critical levels, disabling systems such as antilock brake system (abs), electronic stability control (esc), electronic control module (ecm), and/or the central body controller (cbc). The driver will have limited or no detection of the alternator failing, ,which can result in vehicle shutdown,vn ,while driving and/or an under hood electrical fire. Seem my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee should be added to this recall.
While making a turn the steering and the brakes locked up and the engine shut off, causing me to lose control of the vehicle. This has happened twice 8 months apart. I've done the recall for the relay switch in 2015. This happened again (2nd time) yesterday April 9th, 2018. I almost hit a car at a light it was terrifying. The dealership has my Jeep now and said they can't diagnose unless they have an error code or unless it happens while the technician is driving it. Is Chrysler going to have people drive these SUV's and ignore that people could die? this is an extremely urgent situation. I don't feel safe driving my Jeep that I love. Please help?.
The car stalled and engine shut off while driving, decelerating around a left turning curve. Lost acceleration capability, power steering, brakes, and electrical system (no emergency flashers). Could barely control car and ended driving through curve, off the road, down into small ravine and into field. Were fortunate to avoid road signs and telephone pole. Car restarted after putting gear in park. Very afraid to drive this vehicle anymore. Not able to get appointment with Jeep dealer for another week. Research shows this could be related to faulty tipm. Our service records indicated this Jeep did receive Chrysler group safety recall p54 (NHTSA #14v530) tipm internal fuel pump relay replacement, which states is a potential cause of the car losing power. Seems to have not prevented the moving car from losing power.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 30-75 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. Additionally, the brake pedal was applied, but failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (autonation Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram and fiat, 2201 victory dr, columbus, GA 31901), but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer attached a history recorder to the vehicle. While driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle stalled and the traction control and service four wheel drive indicators illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified. Also, while driving at unknown speeds on March 25, 2018, the windshield wipers spontaneously activated, the radio changed stations, the brake pedal was applied and failed to respond, and the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to landmark Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of morrow (50 mount zion blvd, morrow, GA 30260), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and opened case number: 33696515. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 66,000.
Engine shuts down while driving with no warning. Already had tipm replaced twice. Last thing we were told that it could have been a loose battery terminal. Concerned if the vehicle is safe to drive.
The push start button has issues starting the engine. There has been a recall for this and the issue still persists. The only way the dealer will fix the issue is if the problem is seen 1st hand and occurs for longer then 8 seconds. I have paid for multiple rental cars and spent multiple hours at the dealer to have this issue fixed and it keeps recurring. Something needs to be done to fix it without re-occurrence. My final point is that yesterday when dealing with this issue my car started after its second try, I then drove onto the street and the engine shut off and the brakes locked up. Luckily there was not any cross traffic because it could have caused a serious accident on a busy street with my daughter and myself in the car. This hse risk has caused me to be very concerned about the drivability of my vehicle and something needs to be done ASAP!.
Vehicle engine shuts off randomly while driving. This problem has happened multiple times. The engine is not running so there is no power steering or power brakes putting my wife, child, and others around them in danger when this happens. There are numerous and numerous amounts of complaints about this issue all over the web. Chrysler has a recall fix for this issue but their fix is not working, as we have had this "fix" done twice, still having the stalling while driving issue. There are 188,000 other vehicles affected by this. These vehicles are a danger to everyone on the road.
Jeep will crank but not start over, have replaced the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump and the batteries in both fobs vehicle will not start. On the rare occasion I get the Jeep to run it will randomly shut off. . . . Last time I was on the freeway going 65mph when the engine shut off and I was almost rear ended because of the Jeep slowing down substantially my 6 year old daughter was in the car and I was terrified.
On may 4, 2017, approximately around 7:00pm, I turned right onto a freeway and my steering wheel locked up and the vehicle shut off completely. I was not able to turn the steering wheel and barely was able to make it out of the middle of the road. The engine shut off while driving down the road. I am luck that I did not have a car behind me or I would have caused an accident. How scary!! Chrysler has claimed that they have fixed this!!.
Engine shuts off with no warning while driving. Power steering and brakes are lost. No service lights or loss of power to other items (radio) and no error messages can be found by Jeep dealership service tech. This has happened 3 times most recently 4-4-17.
Vehicle shuts off randomly while driving. Both times it has happened during deceleration. Power steering and brakes are lost. No indicator lights visible and no diagnostic codes set. Chrysler customer service disavows any knowledge of a problem although there are several accounts of similar issues on the Jeep forums and other websites. Dealer can find nothing wrong. My wife is now afraid to drive the vehicle because she cannot control it without power assist.
Was slowing down from 50 mph to make a left hand turn. As I was entering the turn, at about 30 mph, the engine shutoff. All dash lights still functional, radio was still on, turn signal still on. There was no sputtering. Lost power steering and power braking (and any other items that are not functional while in "run" mode). Shifted to "neutral", but it would not start because the transmission was not in "park". Pulled to the side and stopped the vehicle, put it in "park". Started like nothing had happened. There were no warning lights before shutdown, there are no service lights or obd ii codes stored in computer. Was using the push button starter, the key fob was in my pocket.
Engine shuts off intermittently while driving at different speeds.
Engine shut off while decelerating from 40mph at aprox. 15mph while coming to a stop sign. This has happened as recently as last month. All instruments, radio etc. Remained powered. No warning lights. Dealer can't seem to identify issue. Previous recall for fuel relay was completed in 2014. Previous NHTSA id number: 10783730.
The engine shuts off randomly while driving.
Since safety recall p54 was applied, my vehicle has completely died while driving on 5 separate occasions 1 on 19oct, 2on31oct, and 2on7nov. The vehicle is currently at sam lehman Chrysler Jeep dealership in peoria, IL. They claim that I need new software at my expense to address the vehicle shut downs. Attached transcript is with Chrysler. They do not appear to take this safety issue very seriously.
Engine shuts off while driving without warning. This has occurred twice while decelerating on the highway. Dealer can not identify problem, no open recalls on vehicle.
Vehicle stalled on a busy road while traveling approximately 35 mph. I was decelerating approaching a traffic light and lost power steering, power brakes and engine shut down. After placing vehicle into park I was able to restart. This has happened twice in the last few months. The dealership is not able to replicate the issue or take further action to correct the issue.
I began having difficulties starting my vehicle about a week ago, the engine would continually turn over without actually starting (push button start). Each time I would have to press the start button multiple times and let the vehicle cycle through multiple failed attempts until the engine would finally start. However, this morning, after cycling through multiple attempts and getting the vehicle to start, the engine shut off while I was driving. After the engine shut off the dashboard read as if it was still running. I was unable to start the vehicle after that and had to push it out of the way (was luckily still in a parking lot).
The Jeep would not start on the first try. It either cranks and cranks and never turns over, or it turns over but never reaches a good idle state and just shuts off. After a few attempts, it would finally start and be ok until the next time I leave it alone for an extended period. I believe the symptoms I am experiencing are the same as those that have been reporting a problem with the tipm, which seems to be a very pricey item that Jeep (Chrysler) knows is faulty and have done nothing about. Not to mention that it is also an item that is on national back order with a class action lawsuit filed as well.
I have tried to start my car several times with just continuous cranking. I called two different Jeep dealerships and they said they have never heard of this issue before. Yesterday, I was driving down the street at 55 mph with my 5 month old in the car after daycare- and my car just shut off while driving and I almost crashed into the person in front of me!!!! very scary. I had to swerve to miss the person in front of me because the brakes and car were not working- just completely shut off. I finally got it started again and got to a safe location. I then had it towed. I did some research to find that this is a very common issue with 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Chrysler refuses to do a recall on this. Are they insane?!!! we could have been in a serious accident. If the car is not under warranty- the price to fix the issue is $1300+. I just purchased this car in November of 2013 because I thought it would be safe for me and my new baby. Now I have to dish out $1300 because of a faulty part that Chrysler refuses to fix? they are very aware of the tipm not performing on these models- please research all the forums that talk about this. There is already lawsuits pending. Please advise on what to do at this point. I do not have this kind of money to fix a car with 39000 miles on it. I will never purchase a Jeep or Chrysler again.
