Traveling on s sterling street in morganton, nc on the morning of July 12, 2023. We were going speed limit20 mph on a one way street, then car made rumbling sound and accelerated on its own at approximately 60-70 mph. I put on brakes, but car did not slow down. . . Weaved thru traffic to avoid hitting anyone. . Could not get car to slow down and unfortunately hit a car in front of us. All persons were taken to hospital. . Myself, my wife and person in the other car that was impacted. All persons suffered broken bones. Both cars were totaled. Since accident have read up on this type vehicle accelerating on its own. We were lucky no one was killed. This needs to be looked into before it takes a life.
The left bank intake camshaft and roller rockers have failed. It has cause the check engine light to come on and go off reading a misfire in cylinder 2. After costly repairs to coil packs and plugs, Chrysler is now going to replace with a cost of $1,900. 00. This is the same issue in the 2013 Jeep that Chrysler extended the warranty on and won’t do it now on this year model.
My 2014 Jeep cheroke limited stopped working without any prior warning. I was driving on the highway with my company children. I was going at a speed of 65 miles per hour, when it began to fail in a life, first I noticed the air conditioning stopped working, then I slowed down and stopped accelerating, I noticed that the speed changes suddenly began to change from drive ( d) to neutral (n), and I got a picture on the dash saying I needed to check my transmission. So what I wanted was to get off the road because I was afraid that my three children were with me and I was afraid that something bad would happen, but the bad thing is that I couldn't stop, because there wasn't enough and safe space where I could stop the truck. And many cars came behind me. So I went about a half mile and was able to get off the road. It was when my truck stopped hard and put itself in neutral (n) and didn't want to go any further. The air conditioning did not want to work either. When I got off and checked it, I noticed that my truck had oil in the back. So all I thought of was calling my husband and he went to the place where we were to pick us up. The weirdest thing that happened to me was that I never had any warning on the dash before until it started to go bad that day. My husband had checked the truck out because I was going out of state. He always did the corresponding checkups and oil changes because that is the truck that we used for my children and I. The next day we returned for the truck and took it in a trailer to the mechanic to find out what had happened and he said that the transmission did not work, that that happens in these 2014 trucks. My question is what can I do? I want to fix my truck because it's the one I take my kids to school in but I'm afraid it's going to break down again. I began to investigate further and saw that I am not the only one to whom this has happened. Even a CO-worker of my husband's went through the same situation as me.
Jeep shifts into neutral while driving and Jeep also loses power while driving on the highway! the check engine light would come on and then go off, and stay off. Transmission or engine possibly.
I have had 2 transfer cases and now I need a transmission all in 2 years I’m so over the Jeep products all done by the Jeep dealership.
The contact owned a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering assist. Additionally, while the transmission was shifted into neutral (n), the vehicle stalled, causing the contact to crash into a tree. The contact sustained injuries, and medical attention was received. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The vehicle was deemed totaled by the insurance company. Additionally, the contact stated that when he turned off the ac, the vehicle would shut off. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.
See attached document for complaint.
We were trying to pull onto the highway and it wouldn't move and started making a godawful sound. We got it towed to a dealership who looked at it and said that the splines for the driveshaft between the transfer case and front differential were shot and also between the transfer case and the transmission. I found where this has been an issue with the Jeep cherokees, but wondering if it a problem also with the Grand Cherokees.
Gear switching to neutral while driving, stops abruptly, steering locks up, and the vehicle shuts down completely. In order to restart, the battery requires a jump. The battery is fairly new and shows good voltage.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that on multiple occasions while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently shifted into neutral without warning. No warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that each time the vehicle inadvertently shifted in neutral, he had to wait approximately five minutes then restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission valve failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. My Jeep has been at the dealership for a year prior to this. On February 21,2023 I gave them a list of a weird smell in my cabin, broken, and missing parts. I was sent an email on the ‘March 14, 2023 saying my Jeep was fixed and ready I went in on March 17, 2023 to pick up my Jeep, from what I could see the broken pieces were repaired. I got in proceeded to drive, after I went maybe 16 miles one way, I had to turn around, there was a weird smell in my cabin. My eyes, and nose started running and my head was feeling weird. I already have copd. I found the service manager, he went out and got a technician, the tech stuck his head into the Jeep and said it was antifreeze. I told him I don’t know what it is, but I feel weird. They proceeded to lift the hood and there was black smoke, the tech said the “pvc” hose was disconnected. I didn’t know what that was, I left the Jeep there. I didn’t feel well throughout the weekend, went to my dr. Monday March 20, 2023. I had a very bad headache, short of breath, nausea, just feeling really bad and run down. I was told it was possible carbon monoxide poisoning, especially since that pvc hose not connected would distribute exhaust into the cabin. I was then taken back to the emergency room on Sunday March 26, 2023, I couldn’t stop vomiting, stomach hurt so bad and headache. I reached out to the dealership, and informed them what happened. They never replied back. I need help please, I’m a disabled u. S. Air force retired veteran with copd and other medical conditions. This situation is unacceptable. I’ve tried to get a meeting with the owners, on several occasions. Since they had my engine taken apart and just sitting out back of their dealership for months. I want the engine replaced completely, or they can send my Jeep to another dealership to make sure the engine is complete and fixed. This could have killed me!.
The engine had smoke coming from under the hood, the technician said the pvc hose was disconnected. I had just picked my Jeep up after a year of being at the dealership consecutively and got carbon monoxide poisoning, had to go to my doctor and the emergency room. . Read more...
Reluctor wheel / toner wheel is poorly designed and causes the vehicle to go into limp mode when part fails. Manufacture is already aware that the magnet strip can detach and chip as a recall has already been placed. However, the fix was not to replace the part but update the software so vehicle would not stall. For some reason I was told my particle vehicle was not part of the recall for software update. When my toner wheel went bad it left me in an unsafe situation where I was turning onto a highway and with no warning my vehicle went into limp mode with vehicles approaching at high speed. I was only able to get up to 15mph in limp mode almost causing a crash as I tried to move over to the shoulder. Limp mode is an unsafe practice especially with no warnings. I would rather take my chances of wrecking additional parts on my vehicle than to have my vehicle go into limp mode on a highway which could lead to a serious crash. The recall 20v-475 should be to replace the tone wheel completely and a recall should be done to prevent a vehicle from going into limp mode without any warnings.
*NHTSA please help* I purchased my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee brand new in June 2014 from a fca authorized dealership. I have meticulously maintained, gently driven, and greatly cared for this Jeep since day one. Have only ever had the Jeep serviced at the fca authorized dealership where I purchased. I have followed and complied with all Jeep manufacturer service recommendations since day one. At 115,000 miles, I am currently experiencing a loud ticking noise resulting from failed rocker arms and failed lifters. These failed rocker arms and lifters will result in complete and catastrophic engine failure. I am also experiencing significant engine oil leaking coming from a failed oil cooler. The mopar oil cooler in this 3. 6 pentastar engine is made of plastic, and is highly susceptible to failure. I have talked to multiple ase certified mechanics that both issues I am currently experiencing are extremely common amongst these 3. 6 liter pentastar v6 24 valve vvt engines. I feel very unsafe as the owner and operator of this Jeep Grand Cherokee, and have lost all confidence as it relates to the safety and reliability of this vehicle. If the vehicle cannot provide reliable and safe transportation, that completely eliminates all safety as a driver and for all passengers of this vehicle. *NHTSA* please help the owners of the vehicles with these engines with appropriate recalls and procedures to ensure the safety of our vehicles. Thank you.
I was driving and pressed on the gas to go and my car shifted into neutral and wouldn't let me go. I almost got hit by a truck due to this. Luckily he swerved to avoid me. Also my seat belt pulls out but won't retract on passenger side door.
The car just stalled in the middle of the road on a busy street with the information 4wd drive temporarily unavailable till service. There was no prior warning, the car has around 80k miles and has been taken care of regularly with no outsanding calls or other maintenance. Checking the resources available, the reliability on this car seems pretty low with many know transmission issues. I had the car towed to the dealer and they are wanting to fix 1. Valve body and connector to pan, 2. Dtcm and broken engine and trans mount. A few weeks back the drivers side seat belt stopped retracting (the dealer said they would fix that). The car just stalling with no prior notification or issues added to which the car belt retracting happened on a busy street and very well could have happened in the freeway causing safety and security issues for this and other vehicles on the road. There are innumerable cases of transmissions reports and issues for this vehicle, most of those fixed earlier on during the warranty might just seemed to happened a little bit later. It is a disaster waiting to happen with other vehicle owners if not addressed proactively in my humble opinion, I was relatively lucky to have happened without an incident but it could have been worse. Please need your help in addressing this safety issue ASAP.
First issue is that I had to replace the uconnect system this year. It had been on the fritz for some time and updates could not be made to the old system. It would constantly go black. Second issue 2017-$30,000 miles is that the replaced steering rack and pinion and align 600 suspension and chassis 4778. Replaced the leaking rack and pinion and passenger front caliper due to sticking bleeder valve 300 bakes. 11/2017 evaporative system seal canister. 2018 power brake booster/vacuum leak and braking issue. Replaced radio. $1200 ish. Drove car 2/21 50,221 - 10/2022 53,000. October 2022 daughter driving car, gear slipping and engine light comes on and pulls over car not shifting at all into gear. Towed to Jeep where needs new transmission plus at 53,000 miles!!! $15,00 plus quoted at Jeep.
While driving vehicle it doesn't matter if it is highway speeds or street speeds , transmission shifts into neutral and makes car stall. Almost got into at least 4 accidents because of the issue , glad drivers behind me were paying attention and quickly avoid the accident. I have to wait at least ten minutes before car will start again, during those ten minutes car will try to start but without luck. No check engine light , been to at least 5 different shops and no one can say what is wrong because check engine light is not on. And issue happens randomly and technicians haven't been able to replicate issue. It is a safety hazard. I know Jeep cherokee have a recall for something similar. But it doesn't apply to mine since mine is a Grand Cherokee. Model before mine 2011 to 2013 have a recall for a similar issue but it doesn't apply to mine because mine is a 2014.
Computer system on dash started flashing & going out while driving telling me to turn engine off engage in park is disabled . Would let me shift gears making loud noise in engine.
The Jeep will just get locked in either 1st or 5th gear. Which has almost caused me to wreck multiple times. From doing my own research I understand that is has been a problem with 2014-2015 year Jeeps. I find it very disappointing that nothing has been done to recall these vehicles in order to have the issues resolved.
Driving 20-25 mph, stopped at a stop sign. Accelerated , then all instrument panel lights started flashing ,then went out of gear. I let off accelerator , then re-accelerated. Got the car home, a short distance. Was not able to put SUV into park. Engaged parking brake. Hours later started car up and was able to place into park mode. Engine light stays on now.
Something is wrong with 2speed transfer case.
This has happened three (3) times to me. The instrument cluster on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee just blackouts and the windshield wipers go on, then multiple cluster warning lights illumination and a loss of anti-lock brake system (abs) / electronic stability control system function stops. The vehicle slows down because of loss of power. A loss of instrument cluster illumination and/or loss of abs function while driving could cause a crash.
The breaka locked up and I went to go around so I wouldnt hit the person in front of me. When I did the front axle cv joint totally snapped off the passenger side that hold the tire on. And I couldnt steer or anything.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the powertrain failed and the vehicle stalled. The contact pulled over safely and waited for approximately 5 minutes before restarting and driving to a local mechanic. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed with powertrain failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Power steering, engine acceleration, coolant/radiator, belts, eco diesel system, blind side detectors and automatic emergency breaking have all been major issues with this Jeep. I've almost been crashed into by other vehicles, including an 18 wheeler, because of the engine instability. It is now in the repair shop and completely unable to drive.
Their is oil being introduced into the coolant reservoirs. Jeep Grand Cherokee ecodiesel. The vehicle are having failed oil coolers that stemmed from the failed egr coolers. The driving of these vehicles for over a year awaiting a fix has caused the engines to have other failures. There has been over 10 recalls on these ecodiesels since I bought the Jeep brand new in 2014. They made a deal with the epa lawsuit and did a software patch which changed the engine function issues, they did a patch on the power train control module, transmission control module, and apparently the ecm engine control module. I’ve had nothing but “check engine” light codes in since the first patch in 2016 that they didn’t put in the records, I have the work order showing the patch. In 2019 the lawsuit the epa approved for them, allowed them to place a new patch that caused other components to continue to malfunction like the” high pressure fuel pump now. The dealerships are saying the failures aren’t due to their negligence and are causing consumers to deal with costly repairs that’s not their faults. I got a bill for $29,000 for a new engine, they said my Jeep was under extended warranty but don’t want to help foot the repairs. Also stated they would reimburse recall work that customers paid for prior to recalls coming out within 60 days, but it has taken me over 4 years to try and get reimbursed. My car is at the dealership now and has been down since April 29, 2022.
Transmission jerking and slipping until I reach 38mph. Unsafe on roadways feels like being hit from behind. Scary.
Was driving and vehicle overheated and in seconds my motor locked up right in the middle of an intersection tried to reach out to the dealership I bout it from. They sold and the old owner had everything never got back to me still to this day no one has helped me just found out about you guys so I am still here paying on a vehicle that's motor locked up on me! I have not been able to get anyone to look at the vehicle at this point I've ruined my credit and am about to let the lender come and get it. This is the last stop for me!.
Service shifter transfer case radio malfunction gear shifter shifter got stuck in park I had to forcefully pull the shifter to get it to go into drive. Monday Feb 14, 2022 approximately around 9:00pm I drove my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee to the gas station. I pull up at the gas pumps and pit the shifter to park, I exit the vechile and lock the doors, go inside the store to pay for my purchase and as im walking out I look and my Jeep was gone. So I look around and I see it across the highway in a ditch. So I take off running to my vechile and get in the vechile to try and reverse it but its automactilly goes right back into park. So I get out and look at the damage because there is a guard rail cables. My car has front end damage because it was stuck under the cables. Made a police report. I called the dealership where I am leasing the vechile from and they do not wanna help me. I've had nothing put problems with this vechile since I got it. This really needs to be looked into. What if my babies were in the car. Thankfully there was no oncoming traffic at that time. Becauae its a busy highway. I also have video footage of the incident from that night.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while attempting to park the vehicle, the transmission failed to shift into park. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer nor repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 16v240000 (power train) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
In 2022 our 2014 grand Jeep cherokee pentastar oil filter housing cracked leaking oil and mixing with the coolant. While driving both levels became dangerously low and there was a burning smell. It is now 2023 and our 2015 Jeep wrangler just had the exact same issue with the pentastar oil filter housing crack and oil leaking to dangerous levels. This is a known issue with Jeep, why are there no safety recalls ??.
When shifting into park, the shifter is not moving into park without pushing the shifter several times up to get it into park. Also when slowing down to come to a stop the transmission is jarring into lesser gears cause the Jeep to jerk, causing whiplash and making loud sound hard to describe. It’s not doing it all the time but when it does it’s like you have been rear ended.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 2 mph, there was a knocking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with needing a new transfer case. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 121,000. The VIN was not available.
Purchased vehicle in 2014 and from the start vehicle occasionally fails to increase speed when acceleration is increased. Under 30000 miles vehicle lost power moving at very low speed. Problem diagnosed at arrigo sawgrass as powertrain control module failure. It is a risk if vehicle not responding to increased speed when needed. My research indicates that thousands of 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees in an australian batch were recalled for powertrain control module fault and the failure of my vehicle under 30000 miles seems to match with these recalls and should be carefully looked at for possible recall as well.
