The contact stated that the guard rail became lodged against the tire, causing the vehicle to turn in the opposite direction into oncoming traffic. The contact stated that the two passenger-side wheels swung, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and drove into a ravine. After the crash, the contact stated that the air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained injuries and was transported to a local emergency room. The contact sustained deep tissue contusions, a fractured sternum and tailbone, and fluid was found near the heart due to the contact striking the steering wheel during the crash. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. I own a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. The driver's-side active head restraint (ahr) suddenly deployed/opened without the vehicle being involved in a collision or rear impact. The head restraint separated/opened with significant force and will not remain in its normal position. I am not aware of any warning lights, warning messages, or other symptoms before the head restraint deployed. This creates a serious safety concern because the active head restraint is positioned directly behind the driver's head and neck. An unexpected deployment while the vehicle is occupied or being driven could cause injury to the driver's head or neck and could also startle or distract the driver. The vehicle has not been involved in an accident that would have caused the active head restraint to deploy. The failed head restraint/component is available for inspection. After researching the failure, I discovered that fca/stellantis has previously issued technical service and warranty information concerning inadvertent active head restraint deployment, including TSB 23-018-20 and related ahr warranty-extension programs. I also learned that NHTSA investigated inadvertent active head restraint deployments involving Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles, including later model-year vehicles. I contacted fca/stellantis regarding the failure. I was initially referred to a Jeep dealership, and I am continuing to request that stellantis review the failure and determine whether it falls under one of its active head restraint warranty-extension programs.

The contact owns a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While the contact’s daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed on the way to work, another driver crossed the road and crashed into the vehicle. I was on the highway and the truck escalated in speed then it would decreased in speed . (61 mph to 45-41mph. Then it decreased speed all the way to a complete stop. Then burst into flames in front of truck. Truck made crackling sounds and proceeded to burn all the way back to the back seats of truck.

On 7/17/2026 I was involved in a motor vehicle crash resulting in damage to both my Jeep wagoneer and the other vehicle. I was informed that I have a recall on my electronic brake assist and the brake system control module for my wagoneer today August 6th, 2026. I'm wondering if the faulty brake system control module contributed to the crash. I am unable to complete the recall repairs until after my wagnoeer is repaired after the resulting motor vehicle crash. I had no prior warning, messages, or problems prior to the failure. Also to note--I hit my head on my side driver door and sustained significant impact to the front fender wheel (driver side) and my air bags did not deploy. The resulting damages to my car are estimated at $19,000.

The contact owned a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, another vehicle hydroplaned from another lane into the contact's lane, causing the contact's vehicle to crash into the oncoming vehicle. The contact's vehicle then crashed into a ditch before coming to a complete stop. The other vehicle crashed into a guardrail, and its air bags were deployed. The contact's wife was occupying the front passenger seat during the incident. No air bags deployed. Both the contact and his wife were transported by ambulance to the medical center. The contact sustained cervical strain and soft tissues. The contact's wife sustained a brain hemorrhage and remained hospitalized in a highly sedated state. Additionally, the contact's wife was being treated for a continuous high fever. The vehicle was towed to a local tow yard and was deemed a total loss. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,076.

The driver and passenger front airbags deployed spontaneously while merging onto the highway. I was startled by the noise, my vision was obscured, I was unable to breathe due to the chemical accelerants, and the bag made contact with my face and arms. All of these events put me and other drivers at great risk of severe bodily and property damage. Since June 24, the vehicle has been in possession of a Chrysler dealership. A pre-service write-up has been created, but to my knowledge, no work has been done to the vehicle. I am unaware of an inspection having been completed. I did not see any warning lamps or other symptoms prior to the airbags deploying.

The passenger headrest exploded. 1 year ago the driver side headrest exploded while I was driving. Luckily I was not hurt badly or in an accident. Dealership said they would only fix the driver side and to comeback when the other blew up. Now that the other one blew up I am being told it is past the warranty and I will have to pay out of pocket to repair. The warranty extension that would have covered this was called x88. Expired July 2025. I believe the dealer knew it was gong to expire but did nothing to help me.

Airbags did not deploy in an accident where someone ran me into a tree front center of front of car it involves two injury because airbags didn't come out on impact.

While driving my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 4x2, the driver side active head restraint deployed without any collision, rear impact, crash, or other triggering event. There was a sudden loud bang directly behind my head, which startled me and created an immediate safety distraction while the vehicle was in motion. I did not know what had happened at the time. The head restraint remains deployed/open and cannot be reset. The vehicle was not involved in a crash, there was no rear impact, and there was no airbag deployment. Fca/stellantis has issued an x88 active head restraint warranty extension for certain Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles involving inadvertent deployment of the front active head restraint where it cannot be reset due to internal damage. My vehicle appears to have experienced the same failure mode, but Jeep/stellantis has advised that my VIN does not qualify for x88 coverage, apparently because the vehicle was built after the selected warranty extension population. My vehicle build date is January 2018, with mdh 011623. I am filing this complaint because this was a safety related head restraint failure that occurred while driving without a collision. The sudden deployment caused a loud impact immediately behind my head and created a dangerous distraction. I am concerned that vehicles outside the current x88 warranty population may still be experiencing the same inadvertent active head restraint failure. The vehicle was factory ordered and delivered in February 2018, which may explain the later January 2018 build date, but it is still a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee and appears to have experienced the same inadvertent active head restraint failure mode described in fca’s x88 warranty extension.

On xxx, I was involved in a motor vehicle collision on [xxx] in [xxx] while driving a leased 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The airbags in the Jeep did not deploy during the collision. The other vehicle involved was an approximately 10-year-old Honda SUV, and its airbags did deploy. Fortunately, I did not sustain an injury in the collision. However, the Jeep was subsequently declared a total loss. The vehicle has since been removed from the lot where it was being held, and I no longer have possession of or access to it. I therefore cannot independently inspect the airbag system or obtain crash data from the vehicle. I am reporting this because I am concerned about whether the airbag and occupant restraint systems in the vehicle functioned as designed during the collision. I would like NHTSA to document this incident and consider whether the non-deployment warrants further review. I can provide the VIN and other information about the vehicle and collision if needed. I would also like any available event data recorder (edr) or other crash-related data to be preserved and reviewed if possible. I was driving at approximately 30 - 35mph when another car went through a stop sign causing a head on collision. I did not see the other car, therefore had no time to brake or maneuver away - the collision happened at the full speed I was driving. The damage to the car is directly in the center and towards the right side of the front of vehicle where the airbag sensors are located. The airbags did not deploy. I was restrained by my seatbelt.

While driving, the drivers side head rest exploded and pushed my body/neck forward. There was no accident that prompted this and was slowing down to a stop light.

Jpg has a picture of the driver headrest, not deployed. The headrest are designed to deploy only with impact. The plastic molding broke away from the latch pin, and allowed the headrest to deploy prematurely. This should have been a safety recall on the first report. Thousands of complaints have been noted thus far.

The active head restraint on my driver seat deployed and pushed my head forward suddenly. I could not push my head back into position. This happened while driving on the evening of may 3. I have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. I was not able to reset the head rest position. I took the vehicle to the dealership. They said that the whole headrest needed to be replaced. It could not be reset because the molded plastic piece was degraded. From a search online this appears to be common in the 2014-2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee with active head restraints. Even though this is a failure of the equipment, and other Jeep Grand Cherokees from 2014 -2018 received a 10-year extension on their head restraints, the dealership and Jeep customer care said that my vehicle is not covered. Nor will they let me buy a seat from them that does not use the active head restraint. They said that because my vehicle's VIN specifies a vehicle with active head restraints, they cannot sell me otherwise. I will not be comfortable driving this vehicle again with an active head restraint that could randomly fail and punch my head forward while I am in rush hour traffic. I believe this is a safety risk as it is disorienting to not know why your head is suddenly pushed down and forward while you are driving at 45 mph. Distracting the driver in such a way endangers the driver, passengers, and other vehicles' occupants on the same roadway. It throws off your view of the roadway and your mirrors. There were no warnings ahead of time.

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while his wife was driving the vehicle at an undisclosed speed, the driver side air bag suddenly deployed hitting the drivers head, the vehicle was not involved in a collison at all. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 123,830.

While driving my Jeep Grand Cherokee, the front passenger headrest suddenly deployed forward with a loud popping/exploding sound. There was no collision, no impact, and no warning before it happened. Fortunately, no one was sitting in the passenger seat at the time. If a passenger had been seated there, the headrest could have struck them in the back of the head or neck and potentially caused serious injury. This appears to be a dangerous safety defect involving the active head restraint system. Based on information I found from other Jeep Grand Cherokee owners reporting similar failures, the issue may involve a faulty plastic bracket or internal component in the active head restraint that can fail under pressure and cause the headrest to deploy unexpectedly. Other owners have reported injuries such as head, neck, and concussion-type injuries from similar incidents. I am concerned that this failure happened during normal driving conditions and without any crash or trigger event. This creates a serious risk to vehicle occupants and could also startle the driver, potentially causing a crash. I am requesting that NHTSA review this issue and determine whether my vehicle is affected by an existing recall or whether additional investigation or recall action is needed.

The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v046000 (air bags). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where repairs were performed on the air bag control module and side impact sensor. However, after the repair was completed, the air bag warning light unexpectedly illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 378,910.

The contact owned a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 40-45 mph, the vehicle rear-ended another Jeep vehicle stopped at the red light; however, the air bags failed to deploy. The contact mentioned that there was no brake pedal depressed in attempts to stop, therefore the vehicle was going at full speed. The windshield washer fluid warning light was flashing, and there was smoke coming from the driver's side front end of the vehicle after the crash. The contact stated that the radiator was caved in due to the impact. The contact did not sustain major injuries. The vehicle was towed and totaled by the insurance company. A police report was filed. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 187,000. The VIN and the license plate numbers were not available.

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep grand wagoneer. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front passenger’s seat air bag deployed without a passenger seated in the seat. No warning light was illuminated. The front passenger’s seat air bag failed to deflate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 80,500.

Was in a head on collision with a lifted silverado. My vehicle going 35 and other vehicle approximately going 50, took out almost my entire front driver side. No air bags went off, accident happened @5:55am Jeep app says “air bag failure” @ 6:08am.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the brake light failed to turn off. The service, seat belt, brake, and air bag warning lights were illuminated. The buzzer and lights were making a continuous sound. The local dealer was contacted, and the abs module was replaced. The dealer informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN or the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

Drivers airbag did not deploy in car accident that included substantial front and back end damage to vehicle. This vehicle was purchased used, and from a used car dealership just months prior to accident. Buyer had vehicle further inspected by a neutral third party to ensure safety. The side impact airbags deployed on impact. Head injuries were sustained when drivers head hit the sun visor then the windshield. There are pictures of the vehicle after the accident. The vehicle is currently in possession of the insurance company in another state. There was no indication that the airbag was defective prior to the accident.

Front passenger head restraint deployed without any accident or reason. Just deployed without cause snapping a plastic bracket so it can’t be manually pushed back into place you have to purchase the entire component. The other oddity is the piece that you need to replace in question has been discontinued. Stellantis has a recall referenced as (20c) but my particular vehicle doesn’t fit in there timeline for that recall. I have a child and it is a head restraint that deployed is an airbag, which is extremely dangerous for anybody that could’ve been sitting in that spot or behind the seat. The piece itself is 700$ there is no wholesale for this particular piece so you’re looking at any place that would charge you $700 and then whatever the service or labor fee is which is minimal so we’re talking at least $800 for a piece that has to be with or compatible with a certain part number which is discontinued or it will not work with the system.

On March 4th 2026 I called liberty Jeep here in hinesville georgia concerning about the recall for my airbags as well as for the hitch on this vehicle. To date nobody has bothered to call to give me an appointment concerning this major recall and continue to refuse to provide any kind of service for me on this recall I have contacted Jeep headquarters about just concerned dealing with liberty Jeep in hinesville and today they haven't bothered to do anything about this they are continuously endangering me my daughter and my wife by avoiding any opportunity to repair this damage to my airbags.

I hit a deer at 65 mph, causing significant damage to my vehicle, $7,300+ to the front end. I have a safety beacon that detected the accident through my insurance, that detected the severity of the impact, resulting in an immediate call for safety to check on me. My airbags did not deploy, but there was a nasty aroma of sulfur during the impact. My minor children were secured safely in the vehicle, as well as myself. I, the driver of the car hit my head very hard on the steering wheel and window during impact, causing whiplash- neck pain, and reoccurring migraines still to this day 3-21-2026. Although I didn't receive medical attention it has been made known that I hit my head. This would've been avoided had my airbags deployed. I assume there may have been a malfunction and had this been a more serious incident, not only would my life be at stake, but most importantly my children. This is unacceptable for safety purposes.

Driver's steering wheel airbag malfunctioned and deployed unexpectedly while backing into a parking space. Safety of passengers through potential of bodily injury and car crash due to lack of sight and sudden explosion/deployment of airbag while car is actively being driven could have been causedby this malfunction. Various incidents of this safety issue have been reported, but no recalls have been officiated yet for this specific year and model. Vehicle has not inspected yet, it just occurred this morning. Insurance was notified, but said it needed to be inspected by a mechanic or dealership. Airbag light came on today for the first time while driving home and then airbag malfunctioned/deployed while parking.

Driver side headrest airbag yes vehicle is available for inspection. No accident yes injury the driver side headrest airbag deployed while driving without an accident happening. I suffered whiplash and headaches after the incident that happened on January 18th, 2026. The headrest airbag deploying could have caused an accident but lucky for me I was able to pull my vehicle over safely. There is a possibility of going to the doctors if neck pain and headaches continue. I will be taking it to the dealership on Tuesday January 20th, 2026 to find out what caused the airbag to deploy. It has not been inspected yet but will be tomorrow January 20th, 2026. No warning lights came on before or during the airbag deploying.

Vehicle set air bag warning light, warning message to have srs serviced soon. Took in to dealer, mechanic determined from fault code tha the sensor in the front passenger seat bottom was defective. Jeep is replacing entire seat bottom. Difficulty in obtaining part. Entire repair to take a month.
