2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee v8 w/hemi. Took the Jeep to a dealership for repairs for stalling. They detected a leak from the ac unit and a seal that was letting the water enter the transmission they flushed it refilled it. Look that recalls found a recall number e-13 on a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee that stated the same thing cept for if the torque converter is compromised it would be replaced. Call the Chrysler number offered on the website and ask them if there was anything they could do they stated no there was nothing they could do so it's going to be an expense to me because it wasn't stated for the v8 engine it was only stated for the 3. 7 liter engine. This is very troubling because if they didn't detect that and the other vehicles then obviously it's going to cause an accident or something to happen when you lose power throughout your vehicle especially when you're on the highway or even a busy road. I stated to them it is word for word and what was wrong with my car and they still. And being on disability at the moment and trying to pay for these repairs and still paying the car off is very difficult. I would like this issue to be resolved by the Chrysler. If they neglected to see any issues in the v8 model that occurred in the 3. 7 liter engine model there will probably be lawsuits against them. It is frustrating that this is happening and they can't help a Jeep owner out probably will never bite you again. Let's just hope my engine don't catch on fire either. Being afraid to drive a car is not ok expecially when it's the only car you have and you can't afford to repair or buy a new one cuz you're on disability.

I was driving down a local freeway. Had just merged on and began to accelerate. Once reaching 65 mph the vehicle felt liken it slammed on the brakes while my foot was on the accelerator. Only lasted for a second then returned to normal. 1/3 mile later is happened again. It has been going on for about a week now. Have come to realize that it is most likely a torque converter or transmission. There is recalls on the vehicle for ignition also. Which Chrysler has yet to resolve. Have they really fixed the transmission issue on this vehicle? or not? this vehicle apparently has caused many people problems and I myself have had two of these exact Jeeps. Both have been complete catastrophes. This problem is very scary and very unsafe for any driver. I have no money to fix the problem nor will the dealer or Chrysler help with the issue. I hope you can somehow help me. I'm begging you. Please do something about this. So everyone can have a safe experience on the roadways.
I returned this Jeep twice to dealer letting know that the transmission had a hard bang between shifting, they continue to say that this normal. The service manager says it because of the electronic system, I told them that I have driving for over forty years and have heard of such thing and this sounds more like a torque converter issue not a computer, needless to say they continue to say nothing is wrong. I am in the process of scheduling another appointment because it continues to get worse.

When I'm driving about 55-60 mph, my laredo starts to shake very bad to where I have to come to a complete stop in order for the shaking to stop. This problem is starting to become worse as time goes on. Now when I reach 40-45 mph it happens. I was told this maybe the torque converter. I do not feel safe to drive it. I seen where there was a recall but not sure if my Jeep was one that needed the work. Any info and have there been similar events?.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. The contact stated that while driving up a hill at 35 mph, the vehicle shuddered upon acceleration. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the transmission fluid and then informed the contact that the torque converter clutch needed to be replaced. I believe this recall applies to my vehicle. I have the v6 and same transmission it affected over 100,000 vehicles. A mechanic looked at the vehicle and confirmed the leak and shutter of the torkconverter. I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo, 3. 7l v6. I have many problems with the transmission, first it was the shifter, second it was a solenoid problem, now I have a shutter and vibration as I am driving down the expressway. I have had it in 3 times now for the same problem. When the tranny starts to vibrate, I notice that the rpms go up about 2-3000rpms. Took it back and the repair guy says that Jeep has recalled the torque converters for a shutter problem and could replace it up 100k miles. I have over 100k and it will not get fixed under this recall or TSB due to mileage, I think someone needs to take a hard long look at the time that Chrysler should have to replace at their expense. This issue has cost me well over $1000 so far and it is back in the shop for the same thing yet again today.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo with 36,000 miles on it, torque converter was replaced at 28,000 miles due to vehicle shuddering at various speeds upon acceleration, vehicle was fine until now, 36000 miles and is doing the same thing. . .
Torque converter wore out or went out causing transmission damage. Noticed vehicle stalled and jerked when trying to accelerate after slowing down and/or stopping. Initial thought vehicle needed a tune-up, but problem existed afterwards. Torque converter warpage caused transmission fluid to leak which lead to damages to transmission. Added transmission fluid at one point , ran well for a while then problem returned. Very expensive to repair.

My 2002 Jeep cherokee limited has 64,000 miles on it. The "check engine" light came on while driving. Took it to Jeep dealership. Computer hook up indicated a transmission problem. I was told it needed a new "torque converter. " had the torque converter replaced. When replacing the "torque converter", I was told the trans. Plate was bad and needed to be replaced. Replaced plate. Computer now says the 02 sensor is bad. Replaced 02 sensor. While getting to the 02 sensor, was told a bolt was rusted to trans. Coolant line and broke a hole in it. Had the coolant line replaced. Now the Jeep stalls! had to drive it back to the dealership with one foot on the gas, one on the brake to keep Jeep running and not to cause and accident! now I'm told my spark plugs need replacing and fuel system cleaned. Replaced spark plugs, fuel system was cleaned and replaced the idle air control motor!!! Jeep stalls when putting into reverse or drive! why is the Jeep stalling????? I've already dumped a pile of money into it and it's worse off than when I took it in the first place!.

Safety recall 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee/transmission fluid leak. Vehicle shakes violently/shudders on highway &when speeding up/ slowing down. Jeep serviced on 5 separate occasions for recall over 36 months. Repaired incorrectly on 1st visit to dealer service. Brought in 4 subsequent times/approx. Every 10,000 mi- to fix same issue transmission/ failed torque converter/shudder. Dealer argued no recall of this item, despite having NHTSA recall info/my VIN was noted on recall. Dealer refused to waive $100 powertrain warranty fee each time Jeep brought back. Dealer insisted mopar parts have 9,000 mi warranty/ I would pay for repair b/c I drove 10,000 mi since previous repair. Dealer refused to provide rental car despite 5-7 day s to repair. Recall states a loaner vehicle to be provided if scheduled repair would take >1+days. A local 5 star Jeep/Chrysler dealership refused to service Jeep after their initial recall repair failed at 10,000 miles. I was told to take Jeep back to dealership I leased it from. Dealership manager told me it was not his problem to fix & 5 star Jeep name did not mean anything to him. Said he was not concerned about recall. I brought Jeep to the leasing dealership- they refuted claims of a recall & told me to pay for all repairs & loaner car. It wasn't until 4th&5th time Jeep was in for service that a loaner car was provided because I told dealer I was pursuing ohio lemon law. The last time I brought Jeep in for service of this recall item, I was told to go on a drive with serviceman to verify problem. He told me it was torque converter & not to fix it b/c he didn't think there would be a fires from leak. I showed him NHTSA recall. He said I would pay for mopar parts b/c they were out of warranty @ 12,000 miles. I told him I had 10,000 miles since last service. He spoke to manager & they serviced Jeep. Jeep is again shuddering/clunking.
I purchased a new 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 9/27/07 from tarbox Jeep in n. Kingstown, ri the day I took delivery the Jeep had several problems the front windows did not work properly, the tail gate was not lighting up properly and I was getting a vibration through out the Jeep when driving over 45 mph. I informed the sales man the next day of the defects in the Jeep I brought the Jeep in to be serviced and to have the repairs done on 11/6/07 the tail gate was fixed as best as they could but still defective the front power window's were also corrected how ever the vibration has not been resolved they replaced the drive shaft, they also removed the transmission and replaced the torque converter that still did not correct the problem. They know believe it needs a new downloag to the transmission control modular but that will not be ready for at least 2 weeks and they do not know if that will correct the problem and they are insisting I take back the Jeep on 11/16/07 I feel the Jeep might be a safety hazard to drive due to tarbox not know what the problem is I have called Chrysler and I am in need of help I drive about 600 miles each week and do not feel safe driving the Jeep in the correct condition. I have had a rental car for 10 days going on 11 days. I could use some help on this matter.

Purchased a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee on April 19, 2007 dealer advertised a 7yr. /70,000 powertrain warranty on the window sticker, vehicle had current mileage of 52,794 during test drive heard clicking sound from steering wheel thought it was normal when you signal. This continues to happen randomly till this date. Oct. 11,2007 took vehicle to Jeep dealership for air conditioning problems, would hear growling sound, shut off, and only run on high. Paid diagnostic fee 74. 90. Could not afford to pay for repair which was an extra $183 over the next couple of months would notice random shudder or rough starts while idling and driving, heard weird winding sound and vehicle would stall. Check engine light came on and took to autozone, given transmission codes on 5/16/2008 took to dealership and requested diagnostic service because engine light on and having some kind of transmission problem according to autozone codes,and requested recall work done, was told we would have to pay $95. We informed them we have a warranty and should not have to pay the fee according to Chrysler cust. Service. They insisted. Told them just do recall work we could not afford fee. According to receipt tech only installed transmission fill tube oil seal. After service vehicle still shuddering and stalling on the way home. 7/17/08 took Jeep back to dealership to get transmission diagnosed, paid $95. Was told failure in the torque converter, internal failure, and codes are the same as the one autozone gave earlier. Repair solutions offered were an overhaul with a price quote of $3100 or replace for $3500. We called Chrysler about warranty they said we don't have one. We called the dealership we bought the Jeep from and they say we do have the Chrysler warranty. After they talked to each other dealer was informed about Chrysler's warranty policy and acknowledges telling us about warranty but has yet to offer repair service or any solution.

Automatic transmission began to slip then would not engage at all in the course of 2 days. The entire transmission was destroyed by the torque convertor "completely breaking apart" per the transmission shop resulting in the complete transmission having to be completely rebuilt at 83,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 15-55 mph, the vehicle shook when the gears shifted. In addition, the vehicle hesitated when attempting to accelerate. The dealer stated that the torque converter inside the transmission caused the failure and they found water inside the transmission. They repaired the vehicle as part of the recall for the power train: automatic transmission (NHTSA campaign id 05v396000). Approximately seven months later the failure occurred again. In addition, the vehicle would lurch forward when the vehicle was stopped. The dealer stated that the automatic transmission caused the failure. The dealer made the repair. The contact stated that the failure occurred on four more occasions. The dealer stated that the automatic transmission caused each failure. The failure mileage was 12,690 and current mileage 60,000.
Took Jeep in before recall for transmission they replaced torque converter and still have the problem and still after 3 times not fixed yet now is smelling hot tach out when stopped and when going down highway but does not increase in speed.
Transmission: I have a 05 Jeep cherokee that has continuously had a transmission shudder problem. While driving, the transmission shudders, feels sluggish, jerking the vehicle forward and backward. It happens while traveling at various speeds, but it is excessive while at the 40 mph & 1500 rpm range. The first time it was taken to the dealership, they did a transmission flush and told me to pick it up. The second time, they ordered, then later replaced the drive line. The third time to dealership, the service technician said they reprogrammed the transmission. It has now been dropped off for the same problem 4 times, and still no remedy. I called the dealership again and told them about a possible recall I read about on the NHTSA website on the problem I was having. The public information specifically suggests a remedy, replace the torque converter (which has not been tried on my vehicle). I asked them why they couldn't use that information to fix my vehicle since it is still under warranty rather than wait to see if a recall is even issued, and I was told that the engineers are working on a remedy for the possible recall I was reading about, and it may not affect my vehicle. So, until that recall is issued, nothing can be done. Air conditioner:on 9/22/05, while vehicle in motion, air conditioner, radio, &all dash lights went off at same time, stayed off for 5 seconds or so, then came back on. 5 miles or so later, the same thing happened again. Later on the same day, the air conditioner would only work on the highest setting. On my way to the service appointment the next day, the air conditioner would come on and turn off itself, like it has an electrical short in it or the dash. I can also smell plastic burning/melting but can not locate where it is coming from. Dealership now states that parts are not available to fix the air conditioner, and they do not have any timeline for parts availability. No clue why the dash lights shut down.
I have had the same complaint about my Jeep Grand Cherokee 5. 7l automatic transmision as the recall notice described below. That is, 8 out of 10 times, whenever I turn on the airconditioning (particularly in weather above 90 degrees) the car shutters if asked to pull forward or reverse. This problem is particularly bad and more predictable to occur if reversing; I. E. , backing out of a parking space. Over the last 3-4 years, I have asked two or three dealerships to look into the matter, citing the recall below, but they said that there is no way my car could have the same problem. In reference to 05v396000: everything stated in the recall applies to my vehicle also even though I have a hemi and its associated transmission. Chrysler customer service has neglected to assist me in assessing the implications of four months of shudder effect on the transmission, engine and frame of the vehicle. Customer service continually hangs up on me while I am explaining the situation. After four months of dealing with the shudder I finally was able to convince the dealers service department that I had a serious problem while driving. They replaced the torque converter. I have a fully loaded 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited.

The contact was informed that the vehicle was leaking transmission fluid caused by a seal failure. The dealer stated that this was common for the sealant to fail and cause the leak. Exhaust manifold gasket over heated and burned up in turn had caused over heating in the torque converter. This led to transmission failure. Keyless entry lock had malfunction also.

Vehicle is having many problems with abs and brakes, on one occasion, front brakes locked up, causing skidding and shaking throughout steering wheel, TSB 879 has been complete, rotors have been found warped several times and have been replaced, brake pads have been replaced, pulsation and vibration are felt due to faulty brakes, however dealer can not remedy problem. Torque converter was replaced, consumer states that a noise is in the transmission after driving a while. Engine surges while driving at 55 mph and above.
Consumer stated the vehicle felt sluggish when first starting in the morning, the dealer removed the transmission pan and found excessive brass and metal inside the pan, the dealer dissassembled the transmission, and pump bushings that were stuck on the torque converter, also the rear clutch was burnt.
