1 Axle Shaft Seal problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Consumer writes in regards to several expenses related to vehicle and requests reimbursement the consumer stated the front brakes which included the rotors master cylinder, left rear seal axle, bearing, snap ring had to be replaced more than once on different occasions. Also, the vehicle broke down on several occasions and smoke was emitting from the vehicle on one of those occasions. It was discovered the relay fan radiator fan needed to be replaced. The transduce pressure sensor, solenoid, transmission gov and gasket were replaced at a cost of $ 530. 50. The consumer stated the horn began blaring for no apparent reason and then stopped working/ two days later, all the gauges in the vehicle went to zero and all the interior lights illuminated and the windows did not work. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and a diagnostics test revealed an electrical problem. Updated 11/10/jb updated 11/22/11.

2 Axle Shaft Seal problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/12/2005

Failure of the rear axle seal/bearings - grease leaking onto the rear brakes (safety hazard) this is the 4th failure on this vehicle - 1) repaired under warranty 2) repaired at cost of $250. 71 @ 65,891 miles 3) repaired under 3 way split $200. 00 my part @ 78,203 miles 4)failed at 103,473 miles estimated cost of repair $202. 58 (not by dealer) told by mechanic at dealer that the falt is in the casting of housing and Jeep knows this and will continue to fail. Called Jeep ( daimlerchrysler) customer assistance and was held on phone for 20 min then was told Jeep could do nothing about this other than recommend a different dealer.

3 Axle Shaft Seal problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/24/2004

The consumer owns two 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokees. In both vehicle's the right rear axle seal broke causing differential fluid to leak into brake system. Each vehicle sustained $1000. In damage. The seal was fixed and the brakes were repaired in both cases. The consumer thinks a manufacturing defect is the cause of the problem.

4 Axle Shaft Seal problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/03/2004

While applying the brakes, the pedal went to the floor and the vehicle shook uncontrollably. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic determined that the pads and rotors needed to be replaced. Consumer informed the dealer that this problem occurred more than once, and problem had not resolved. Problem still exists. There was an oil leak found at the left rear axle seal. Updated 02/20/07.

Failure Date: 05/05/1999

Rear pinion seal leaking at first oil change -took to dealer - they changed out the whole rear end -noise again in rear -took to dealer they said now it was in the front - took to different dealer - tried to fix - took back vehicle till they could get whole new front and `rear end parts in - this has been over a month ago- while waiting in line vehicle died and restarted - few days later vehicle died three times at high speed restarted but ck engine light stayed on -towed to dealer- they said they replaced crank sensor - noticed new O2 sensor as well - still waiting on other parts - passenger side window does not work - vehicle surges at constant speeds -stick shift hard to shift from park to reverse and drive and visa versa - interior lights dont come on when remote turned on to open vehicle- engine feels and sounds rough- alarm system lights go on and off by themselves- once the dealer gets the parts in I will be taking it back for the 6th time with our new complaints.

9 Axle Shaft Seal problem of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Dealer sold vehicle with leaking rear seals, defective differential. Noticed bumping and whining noise less than 8 hours after purchase. Sun roof leaked causing the headliner to detach from roof of vehicle. Repaired once-said drain tubes were routed properly. Second time replaced roof-said seals did not match. Rear differential replaced. But did not address leakage around transfer case, seals etc in Dec 98. Now it's in the shop again! gas gauge fluctuates to empty when idling. Transmission slips. Driver seat automatiically reclines and heater does not work consistently.
