Failure Date: 11/05/2019

All warning sensors went off on the dash, my brakes locked, luckily at low speeds either while parked or pulling into a parking spot. It had to be towed 3 times, one time we had a little smoke coming from under the hood which turned out being the corroded harness. My brake lights were all stuck on. Jeep says it was the wheel speed sensor, 2 out of 4 have been replaced. I've also had to have my wiring harness replaced twice (within 6 months) due to corrosion. All of this happened at the same time.

3 Brake Light On problem of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/30/2019

While using the acc function and setting forward distance at any length the problem is that when the car in front of you slows, stops,,or turns my vehicle will brake on its own. However, while braking during the mentioned operation the big problem is that the brake lights do not illuminate. I have had several close calls with someone nearly running into the back of my vehicle during the use of the adaptive cruise control (acc). This can be extremely dangerous if you are now fully aware of this problem. This should have been addressed during the acc hazardous examination phase. A very simple fix would be to install an I/p switch in the brake line at the master cylinder so that the pressure from the acc applying the brakes sends the pneumatic signal to an electrical signal that lights up the brake lights. This problem should absolutely have been caught and addressed during the design phase. I found out when I asked a service manager about it and he said the lights do not come on. He also said they know about it.

8 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/09/2017

After 5 minutes of driving the emergency brake light (e-brake was not on), the abs module light, and the esp bas light came on simultaneously and would not turn off. I tried to reset the computer manually multiple times to see if the lights would eventually turn off but every time they came on. I then took the vehicle into a repair shop that specializes in Jeep repair and they ran diagnostics and told me that I required a new abs module assembly, passenger seat belt latch and a clock-spring assembly for the drivers side and r/f brake caliper that had broken off for no reason. I was told that if I were to get in an accident not only would my brakes not lock preventing further damage but my driver air bag would not deploy as well causing inevitable injury. This had cost me almost $1400 not to mention I was without a vehicle for several days.

10 Brake Light On problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/23/2016

My wife complained about her brake pedal going farther down and car takes longer distance to stop. A couple times she said the brake pedal went all the way to the floor so she pumped the pedal and said she was very lucky it stopped right before she would have hit something or someone. Brake light then would come on while driving down road without even touching the brake pedal. Afraid to drive it we brought it to dealer. They ended up replacing the brake booster at my expense. We had a recall done previously on the booster because the booster would get water in it so their fix was to put a guard over the already damaged rusted booster. If tested good at that time, they washed their hands of any damaged like rust that would eventually cause severe damage and cause the booster to do this. That's like putting shingles over a bad roof that leaked and is rotted. Can you imagine the accidents that could and eventually will happen. I am sure some have happened already. The number one thing on a vehicle you do not try to short cut is brakes!!!!.

11 Brake Light On problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/23/2016

My emergency brake light is flashing on my dash board, and it is making a chiming noise when flashing as I drive my Jeep. The main issue other than having it going on and off some time a few time a day sometimes not for a week than a few days in a row is that when I am on an open highway with cruise control on doing 70 mph the cruise control will shut off every time it flashes. I fell the this is a safety issue when your cruise controls shuts down without any warning. The dealer has not corrected this issue. I just got a recall notice to day s27/NHTSA 16v-240 to make sure my vehicle is in park and foot brake on. My foot brakes says it is on at 70 mph when it is not on. This happened a lot today on my trip, but has been going on for over a year.

17 Brake Light On problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/25/2015

I just read an article in the may 2016 issue of trailer life magazine involving Ford f-150 and there brake failure issues. The exact problem happened with my Jeep. I was pulling our camper (unloaded), down the highway at a speed of 60 mph when the brake light came on and the brake pedal of my Jeep went straight to the floor. I got safely pulled over to the side of the road to check the fuid level. The master cylinder reservoir was low but not empty. I managed to get home, about 6 miles and the next day took the to Jeep dealer where they found that the brake booster had developed a vacuum leak (they said) causing complete failure of braking system. Dealer replaced brake booster, did a complete brake job, replaced all rotors and flushed system. $1350 later I was back on the road. Until I read this article I thought it was an isolated incident. Hopefully it is a coincidence.

18 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/21/2015

Vehicle engine shut off during right turn in busy intersection without any warnings. Unable to turn or control vehicle. Also the brake on lights come on in the consul during normal operation. Based on other Jeep model recalls, I believe the problem may be related to the tipm-7 module. The vehicle is a Grand Cherokee overlander 4wd. Vehicle was able to be restarted and has not had another failure, however, this is an unsafe driving situation when the vehicle's engine dies while in motion in any road condition. Maybe related to recalls p54.

In addition, the vent control failed to work for the heater and air conditioner. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for various repairs, but the contact continued to experience the unstable suspension. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 19,500.

20 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/02/2015

July 2 2015 -between 5:10 - 5:30 am southbound 25 just prior to exit 217b full moon no rain / no moisture / no road debris at time of accident no Jeep indicator lights / warning - no uconnect messages no rush hour / no traffic maintenance / no construction. Left lane with no shoulder but with a concrete construction wall. We were driving with light traffic (posted speed limit 65, and we drove with the same traffic in our lane was traveling at 67, and we were approx ¿at least 2 car lengths behind the silver Mazda). Two cars ahead of us, I saw braking taillights, and I pressed on our brake to slow down due to seeing the braking lights on the second car that was in front us - not because of the car in front of us - Mazda had not engaged their brakes at that particular time). Within seconds after I released the brake pedal, the Jeep continued forward at a slightly slower speed, and it was then the Mazda came to an abrupt and complete stop, that I slammed on the brakes but there was no response from the brakes (*meaning there was no substantial decrease in the forward motion I then added additional pressure on the brake pedal with no change no engagement of the braking system. I received this email the same morning after the accident happened. Alert: your 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee has indicated there is an issue that requires your attention. 25 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/17/2014

Vehicle displays esp (electronic stability program), bas (brake assist system), abs (antilock braking system) lights in cluster, as well as service 4wd system. While these lights are active, vehicle becomes unsafe and brakes while cornering under acceleration (without touching the brakes!) and has resulted in loss of control. Issue has been repeatedly reported to dealerships and manufacturer (10 visits for this issue spread across 2 dealerships, and 4 cases have been opened with Jeep directly). Issue continues to be diagnosed as a failed brake light switch, and switch is replaced. New switch works for 3-6 weeks before failing again, rendering vehicle unsafe. One example of this issue resulting in the vehicle loosing traction occured in November 2015 while going on a circular highway entrance ramp with the warning lights illuminated. Half way thru the turn, while gently accelerating, the rear brakes completely locked up causing the vehicle to skid onto the muddy shoulder. In January of 2016 a similar incident occured while going up a snowy hill (road curves while going uphill) resulting in the vehicle loosing traction and going into a snowbank.

26 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/15/2014

I had brought my Grand Cherokee in for a recall I received. I was told that I needed a booster and shield for my brakes & they would call me when the parts came in but the car was safe to drive. On 8/13 I called to follow up since I hadn't heard anything from the dealer & was told the parts were on back order and they weren't sure when the parts would be in but again told the car was safe to drive. I explained to them I was hearing air when I pressed on the brake they said that was the booster but it was fine. On 8/15 at 6am on my way to work I was doing 75mph with the flow of traffic. The car infront of me slammed on his brakes I did the same, but my car didn't stop. Thankfully it was early enough that I was able to swerve an not crash or die! I then got to work and had my car towed to the closest dealer, I wasn't given the option of a rental car until that evening and with my work hours I was not able to get a rental until Monday. I picked up my car on 8/22 after they were able to track down the booster &shield. On my way home about 20min into the drive my traction light and check engine light came on. I took the car to my local dealer & they told me that when the dealer who fixed the booster and shield didn't do the recall properly & didn't adjust the the brake switch properly. I was driving with my brake lights on & the lights stayed on even when I was outside the car. They told me I was lucky that the car didn't power down on me & shut off. They dealer where I was fixed the brake switch thankfully, but more importantly the booster blew on my car and I almost died!!! I feel someone needs to know about this and hope that putting it on here will make people aware that with this recall the car is not safe to drive. I was lucky, but someone else may not be.

27 Brake Light On problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/29/2014

Over the past year I have experienced several problems with the braking system ranging from a brake light on the dash to having either a rock hard brake pedal or a very soft pedal. The rock hard pedal happens without warning or any brake light on the dash and the only way to get rid of it is to pump the brakes. Within the past few months I have had several instances of a soft pedal and when taken to the dealer they claim that everything is fine. Once telling me the brake light was a loose master cylinder cap. Last week as I was leaving work my brake pedal went soft and the brake light illuminated, the only brake power that I have is approximately 1" at the bottom of the pedal throw and it is all manual. I drove to the dealer and they had a tech drive my car and he diagnosed a bad brake booster. The dealer connect system was down so they said to go ahead and drive it home and they would call me with the eta on the parts. I never got that call and I had to call the dealer only to find out that the booster is on a national backorder with no eta. I then called Chrysler and filed a claim/case with them. The vehicle is not safe to drive and I have expressed this with every person that I have talked to from the dealer to the reps at Chrysler. No one is concerned that the vehicle no safe to drive, I was just told that they would keep in contact with me every 4-5 days. I have repeatedly asked for a loaner but the reps at Chrysler just tell me that if I want one it would be out of my pocket and it's not their responsibility to provide loaners. Today I got confirmation that the booster would be at the dealer on Monday however the booster "installation kit" is back ordered with no eta. This is my only means of transportation to and from work and I have a job that requires me to be in various locations and it is not safe to drive this vehicle to my job.

After driving for maybe 15 minutes the hissing stopped. Thus, every morning the hissing would happen at first start of Jeep. On christmas day while driving on expressway the brake light comes on. I pull over to check fluids and found fluids were not leaking and at capacity. Pump my brakes and I notice I still have function.
