1 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/14/2021

Called fca and they opened case #79173434 for me and have an appointment tomorrow at a nearby dealership for inspection of suspected oil leaking from the oil cooler/filter housing area and leaking down underneath and all over my transmission as well as my onto my driveway. . . Will keep you posted on outcome since my 5 year warranty has expired but I'm still below the . 100,000 miles-hopefully the "goodwill policy" is applicable or this issue gets more attention and turns into a recall for its potential to cause injury or even death if the oil catches fire. I cannot believe that there are more than 300 complaints involving this concern and there has not been more considerable action taken by fca us llc. Thanks for your time and best regards, sergio.

2 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/02/2021

I dropped of my 2013 Jeep grand cherockee to a mechanic to inspect for an oil leak. The oil filter housing was found to be cracked which was causing the leak. The mechanic stated he had replaced more of these housing because they are plastic and were made to thin so when the oil filter or cover is tightened down after having the oil changed, the housing cracks. After contacting a dealer about this issue the dealer stated there were approximately 60,000 reports of this issue across the country. The part is on back order and wouldn't be in anytime soon. I contact Chrysler/Jeep warranty and there response was they completed an investigation but no recall has been issued yet. They were working on getting parts in a timely fashion. If there are 60,000 problems of this type reported for this engine, why isn't there a recall.

6 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/25/2021

The oil filter housing is made of plastic and attached to the motor. High failure rate as evidenced by the 40,000 part backorder status of the part. Causes moderate to severe oil leak when cracked, and engine failure if it breaks completely. Leaves an oily mess wherever it is parked. Oil will blow back onto other vehicles and vehicle will be stall and be stranded when motor locks up due to no oil. $600+ repair costs. Affects some Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler vehicles. Unable to repair stalled vehicles because part is unavailable. Est wait time is over a month. Part number is 68105583af. There is no excuse for the company not to take responsibility for putting a plastic connector inside an engine housing. It's common sense. I was left stranded on a busy road and had to be towed. I personally know of two others also. Our vehicles are useless because of this. To make matters worse, dealers are now overcharging for the part. Normally $199, now charging over $300.

7 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/13/2021

Took my vehicle to browns Chrysler Jeep Dodge today in patchogue NY today as I noticed oil leaking from under carriage. It was told to me that the oil filter housing assembly is broken. Contacted my local car repair ( tire city , shirley NY ) to get information on this situation and also see how much they would charge . In the conversation, it was mentioned that they also had this similar problem and had many Jeeps come in lately with the same problems. I have also contacted and had them record the issue with Chrysler head quarters in mi. I believe as well as the owner of tire city in shirley NY , that there should be an investigation on this as well as a recall.

12 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/08/2021

Oil filter and cooler housing leaking. Car has less than 60,000 miles and in 6 years old. This is a common problem with the 3. 6l engine in these cars and can lead to a fire or loss of engine oil resulting in engine failure without warning. This is not caused by any motion of the vehicle but just by the heat of the engine warping the plastic part and causing the seals to leak.

13 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/02/2020

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 3. 6l -67k miles. Cracked oil filter housing. Noticed a small oil leak fall 2020 on my garage floor after oil change from local Chrysler dealership. Late winter 2021 noticed the leak was bigger on garage floor. Checked under car around oil pan. Oil pan nut area was clean of oil, but oil was dripping down engine and over exhaust and onto the transmission. Noticed oil puddling inside transmission skid plate. Looked online for causes and found the oil filter housing was known to crack on these engines. I located my oil filter near the top of the engine and found oil all around the base of the housing. The filter neck was clean of oil, just a pool of oil at the base of the neck!! looked up Chrysler recalls and nothing reported for this part. But did find many same engine owners complaining of this same problem! read many articles about this product being made of plastic and failing. All of my oil changes have been from the same local Chrysler dealership. Did they cause this by over tightening oil filter? or is this truly a defect product and Chrysler is waiting for a vehicle to catch fire or a death before a recall is issued? are vehicle engine fires caused by oil leaking onto extremely hot engine/transmission/exhaust parts??.

14 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/22/2020

This model can come with the 3. 6 liter v/6 engine. The oil cooler has a neck attached and this is where the oil filter is located. Where the neck is connected to the oil cooler there is a o-ring to seal this connection and this leaks on almost all models. There has been some incidents where the oil has leaked on a hot motor and cause a fire. This is problem with this engine oil cooler design and should be probably listed as a recall. Thank you.

15 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/13/2020

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that she had noticed oil leaking from her vehicle; she could also smell an oil odor while both in and exiting the vehicle. The contact also stated that she could see smoke emitting from the hood of the vehicle when at a complete stop. Upon inspection, the contact stated that the oil leak was caused by a cracked oil filter housing. The dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 72,000.

16 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/17/2020

The oil filter housing cracked. Cause oil leak close to exhaust. It is made of plastic. Leaking oil. Cost us $900 to repair. Shouldn't be an issue in a 6 yr old car. Many complaints out there.

17 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/25/2020

There was a pool of oil collecting in a channel located on the engine block. My first thought was this could be a fire hazard under the right conditions. I have less than 12,000 miles on the 2017 vehicle. First, I saw the oil leak in my driveway, checked my oil and was a quart low. I took it into the dealer who identified the leak coming from the oil filter housing unit. I want to document this with nhsta . There are a growing number of other owners of this vehicle who believe there should be a recall on this part, out of safety concerns.

18 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/06/2020

Oil leak at oil filter housing. Noticed puddle of oil on garage floor. Had vehicle checked and they determined the oil filter housing is cracked and leaking engine oil. This could cause an engine fire. I have contacted Jeep. They refused any assistance and have stopped responding to my email requests.

19 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/30/2020

Noticed vehicle at 79 000 mi to be low of oil prior to scheduled oil change. Inspected vehicle for leaks but could not find any noticable issues. Changed oil and filter as scheduled during this time. At 89,000 mi , the same issue occurred and upon further inspection, a noticable pool of oil was found to be pooling on top side of engine block near oil filter/ oil cooler. The engine block is v shaped and recessed which allows oil to pool without dripping to ground. Vehicle was taken to dealership and was diagnosed as a leaking oil cooler, with a quote of over $1000 to fix. Dealer acknowledged the issue is a known problem, but after a call with fca America, they are not willing to repair under warranty as vehicle is over the 5 year limit, although it is under the 100k . ( 89000 currently) issue is a major mechanical defect, and also presents safety issues with pools of oil standing on top of block during normal operation which could lead to fire under extreme temperatures.

20 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/26/2020

I was changing out my brake pads, a fairly common procedure, when I noticed there was oil dripping from my chassis shield I have. Turns out I have a problem with the engine oil filter/oil cooler assembly. Apparently, you have received complaints in the past for this issue. From what I have read online, this is a very common problem that is affecting the majority of Chrysler's make and models of vehicles that use this assembly. This is not confined to Jeep vehicles only. The assembly itself is made out of plastic and is seated right on top of the engine block. The seal is kept by 3 or 4 o-rings that warp when exposed to the heat of the engine and then leak oil into the exterior valley that is created by the piston cavities. This is a big risk of engine oil flame up and total destruction of the engine. From what I have read, the valley in the engine can hold onto about 2 quarts of oil before it starts to leak and is noticeable. This is a danger for drivers that don't know they are running low on oil and their engines could seize up as a result. Now I know why my car had just shy of 5 quarts of oil in it when I changed the oil and my car holds 6 quarts to just be in the safe zone on my dipstick. I ask you to please launch an investigation on the substandard design of this part. I have included the websites I have been reading about this below: https://www. Jeepcherokeeclub. Com/threads/oil-filter-housing-leak. 237208/ https://dodgeforum. Com/forum/jeeps/374968-serious-oil-leak-issue-2014-3-6l-3-2l-pentastar. . Read more...

21 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/06/2020

Oil filter housing assembly keeps breaking and leaking. Wont hold oil anymore. 3 times it has done it.

22 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/13/2019

The plastic oil cooler housing failed due to the plastic warping around the seals and leaking. This is a safety risk of potential fire from oil leaking on to the engine block. The cause of this failure is due to design and should be covered by the manufacturer as a recall.

23 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/15/2019

The oil filter housing on this car is cracked, leading to a oil leak and pooling problem which is a significant fire hazard issue to the passengers. This happens while driving and when the car is stationary causing a pool of oil to collect in car and drip on floor. This is a known problem - NHTSA has recorded a number of complaints from users (e. G. Id 11244788,11230350, 11193883 etc. ). The company has also issued a service bulletin: sb-10058301-5939.

24 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/05/2019

Oil cooler leaking, Chrysler corp change part that used to be metal to plastic in 2014 and these oil coolers leak/ seals wear out at low miles. Jeep just started to leak oil and from a part that should not fail at 80k miles.

25 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/02/2019

Oil leak from oil filter housing when running.

26 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

I had my vehicle in for an oil change exactly 2 months ago, mileage was at 58733. The other day after a trip out of town, I noticed a large puddle of oil under my car. Take my car in to the dealership, mileage is now at 60579, thinking maybe something wasn't tightened properly after the oil change to find out that my oil filter adapter housing is leaking down the bell housing. The oil leak was noticed while vehicle was stationary. My vehicle is no longer under extended warranty, it just ran out 7 months. Repairs cost me $1200. 00. I reached out to dealer after reading all the known issues with this problem with Jeep and asked if the housing could have been cracked upon the last oil change. Obviously, I do not really drive that much but after this long trip is when the oil really poured out of the car.

27 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/26/2019

At the time when the manufacturers warranty has just run - the oil filter adapter bracket has started leaking causing oil loss in the engine. This was found by the oil spots on the driveway that were never there before. I searched online and found TSB sb-10058301-5939 in the NHTSA web site. The TSB tells the mechanic to use a wooden dowel pushed down along the front of the engine oil filter into the "valley" and when it is pulled out to look for oil on the tip. This is exactly what I found. The oil finds its way around the block and along the transmission and drips off the shield onto the ground. This is a very expensive repair as the part alone is rumored to be $799 plus the labor. It is an design flaw in that it is a plastic part where previously it was a metal part - cost savings that created a defect. So far -I have not been able to get the dealer to pay for the repair. And I can not afford the repair on my own. This should be a recall because of the possibility of a fire when the oil is laying on top of a hot engine is a puddle.

28 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/17/2018

Motor oil is leaking from the oil cooler/filter housing. Oil has puddled in the engine valley and run down the back of the engine and transmission bell housing. Vehicle smells like hot motor oil and oil level was low.

29 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/06/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that every time the vehicle was in operation and a turn was made, the vehicle decelerated and lost power. Also, the front wheels and steering wheel seized. The contact could not turn the vehicle due to the stiffness of the steering wheel. In addition, the engine leaked oil and the electronic throttle, check engine, and stability control warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to north west Dodge (9616 northwest fwy, houston, TX 77065, (281) 720-1128) where it was diagnosed that the oil needed to be changed. The vehicle was repaired multiple times, but the failures recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 39,680. The VIN was invalid.

30 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/03/2018

Transmission cooler is leaking. No warning, just fluid on the ground - several complaints from other owners online. Oil pressure sensor not working. - no warning, several complaints from other owners on line.

31 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/02/2018

Oil cooler housing on my 3. 6 l pentastar engine, which is made of plastic, has developed a crack causing motor oil to leak onto the engine and transmission. There could be a potential for a fire. Dealer has these on back order. This part used to be made of metal on prior models and was not an issue. Sounds to me that this part should be redesigned.

32 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/15/2018

Oil filter housing: between my two oil changes I noticed a small oil leak under my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 3. 6l. I took it to the Jeep dealership and I was informed the leakage was do to a bad "oil filter housing" and the part with repairs would be 799. 99. I asked if this should be included under my 5 year / 100,000 warranty but they said the warranty expired on 10/24/2018 and today is 2/5/2019. I called chryler and they said there is nothing they can do and they cannot offer to cover the repair; it would be an "out of pocket expense". So I googled this issue and it appears this is a known issues in all the forums and threads I read. Apparently Chrysler changed this part from metal to plastic part for their 2014 models and later and now the part is failing all over the place. I registered a case number with Chrysler but I probably should not post that in a public forum. I am hoping to eventually have this item as a recall item for 2014 and newer vehicles. The car was stationary and I first noticed the issue.

33 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/22/2018

Leak from the oil cooler housing on engine causing a pooling of oil making a fire hazard.

34 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

Chelsea miller 653 beech st. Columbus ohio 43206 419-902-1920 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo, 1c4rjfag7ec237853 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo has formed a crack in the oil filter adapter. Because of the location, design, and material, the part is prone to cracking and leaking (typically spurred by an oil change when the cap is screwed back onto the housing). This crack creates a slow leak of oil into the engine housing and below the vehicle. This oil leak can continue without obvious warning and if not corrected, could result in severe engine damage with the potential of malfunctioning while in use therefore posing a safety threat to the driver, passengers and other drivers. I have alerted Jeep to the issue and I will note that I have spoke to several mechanics who have replaced several of these parts in this vehicle. It is a manufacturing design flaw and costing loyal customers and posing a danger on the roads. I have reported this information to Jeep (or whomever they contract customer service to) and they documented my information but refused to correct the situation for myself (and others in the future) and told me to hold onto my repair information in case a recall takes place in the future. Jeep should take accountability for this ever growing issue and recall this part immediately. Please help me in ensuring they do the right thing for their customers and for the general public.

35 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/31/2018

Complained of an oil leak(oil marks on the garage floor and cardboard place to verify) prior to 7500 miles. Dealership unable to find the oil leak the first time. Took it back 1 week later to complain about an oil leak. Dealership placed dye into oil to find the leak. Leak was found to be the seal between the engine and transmission. When dealership went to replace seal, they stated the block was cracked due to "being machined during the assembly". Now waiting for a new engine to be replaced on a new vehicle of 4 months. Ouch!.
