Brake service apt. Discovered a leak in the steering column. Leaking onto the boot and requiring a full replacement of the steering system. $2,000! 2015 Jeep gc. There are so many complaints of this issue with Jeep gc's dating back to the earlier 2000 models. They need to recall these Jeeps and get this figured out as hydrolic fluid used in steering is highly flammable, corrosive to the boots and pervasive in these suvs!.

Steering rack failure due to leaking fluid. Stationary. Tire dealer said it is squiring fluid. Dealer will not cover cost. This shouldn't happen to a 2014 with only 90k.
I took my car in for a routine oil change and was informed that the rack and pinion steering assembly was leaking power steering fluid and that my power steering fluid reservoir was nearly empty. My car has 80k miles on it. This appears to be a common complain amongst owners of my make and model vehicle.
Power steering lines leaked at 80k ( January 2019 dealer repaired ) now 7 months later (August 2019) both lines are leaking again. . It's going in on the 19th for repair but someone told me their is a huge fire hazard with this fluid leaking and has caused major car fires and steering failure. Is there or was there a recall at some point with the 2012 Grand Cherokee to fix this issue permanently ?I bought this truck in 2017 so I'm unaware of a recall about the power steering issues. My Jeep was serviced at lagers of mankato mn . .

2014 Grand Cherokee laredo with <57k miles. After taking it in to have recalls done and fluids checked/oil change, car was having steering issues at slow speeds (think pulling in/out of parking spots). Brought it into the the same dealership and they said that it needed a new gear assembly (leak) as well as *possibly* a new ps pump, but they wouldn't know for sure until we brought it back in. I was told by another mechanic that it will, in fact need both done. . . For $3k. This is probably my 12th Jeep and I've never had an issue like this. I'm so disappointed that this seems to be a "known issue", yet Jeep hasn't done anything about it. I should also mention that this Grand Cherokee has never been off road, and we live in suburban chicago. . . Hardly any hills or mountains here.
I was advised during an oil change that power steering rack and pinion assembly needs to be replaced due to leaking fluid. The NHTSA database is filled with similar complaints about this defective part. With 10 recalls already on this vehicle, please investigate to determine whether a recall is warranted for this issue as well. Thank you.
Vehicle has 107,000 and was told there is a pin hole leak in the rack and pinion causing a loss of power steering fluid. After looking on the Jeep forums this seems to be a common issue with the generation Jeep.
Power steering failed, power steering unit cracked and leaking was driving 55mph on us 40 nearing elkton. Power steering became heavy, came to a stop at a red light. Turning into a shopping center for a autozone. At this point the vehicle was near impossible to drive. If there were and emergency maneuver to be made u definitely would not have made it and easily could have been involved in an accident. . . Checked power steering reservoir was empty, looking at the power steering unit the bottom was soaked and below the power steering unit was soaked. . . Purchased hydraulic fluid and was able to get the vehicle home. Looking online I saw there were other complaints similar in description. . Filed I believe with the ntsb, I may be missing a letter. . . In either case Chrysler/Jeep is aware of this and I cant believe there has not been a recall on this. . . This is a dangerous safety hazard. I can provide a mechanic's description of damage. . .
Leaking power steering fluid, once replaced instantly drained resulting in needing full rack and pion replacement per dealer.

Power steering failure: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2 weeks prior, we had our Jeep in for an oil change and all fluid levels were checked. While on a road trip, an indicator light for "power steering service needed" came on suddenly just before I was about to get on the highway. I pulled over immediately at an autoparts store. We checked the power steering fluid reservoir and it was empty. We added power steering fluid but it would not bleed into the system. At that point, the power steering went out making it very difficult to steer at lower speeds. It seems unusual for the power steering to go out suddenly with very little warning. We took it to the shop and learned that the power steering gear box was leaking and had to be completely replaced. Additionally, the power steering module assembly failed at the same time and also had to be replaced (along with the power steering pump too since that is not sold separately even though it was in working order). All in all, we ended up paying close to $3,000 for replacing basically the entire the power steering system on a 4 year old vehicle. In my 30 years of driving, I have never had a newer car have such a big failure of a critical safety system and with very little warning. I was lucky that I was able to pull over and was not on the highway driving when it happened or we could have crashed. I did some online research and have seen multiple other steering system complaints (leakages and failures at very low mileages) from 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners. I believe the power steering gear box design is faulty for it to leak so suddenly and quickly. The repair person told me it should not leak and that it must have happened very suddenly. Please consider doing additional research into this issue and if warranted, issue a recall for 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees, to fix this problem. Please encourage fiat to fix the flaw.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 40 mph, the power steering failed and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. Upon inspection, the owner discovered that the power steering fluid leaked from the power steering pump. One step auto Chrysler of fort walton (541 mary esther cut off, fort walton beach, FL) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 120,000.
On April 16, 2018, I took my car into the glendale Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealership in glendale, mo, to obtain the alternator diode thermal fatigue recall replacement. During their inspection, I was notified that I also needed to replace the rack and pinion power steering module due to leaking fluid for $2300. 00. This item is connected to the recall of the alternator diode thermal fatigue problem. In addition, I was notified by the inspector that I had to replace the right rear shocks, also due to broken seals and leaking fluid. This car obviously is experiencing systemic failures, for which Jeep should be held responsible, since the car has only been driven by myself and has only 46,000 miles on it. These core items should last at least 100,000 miles. I have found that the dealership is charging me almost twice the going rate for replacing these items, and this is quite upsetting. I have found information on the internet that there are many similar complaints about these electrical failures, and feel strongly that your organization should issue a recall re the rack and pinion power steering module as soon as possible. This is a very dangerous failure and should be Jeep's responsibility. My car has had regular service check-ups, the last one being on December 9, 2017, to obtain the brake booster water shield recall replacement - another failure. Between December 9 and April 16, the car was not driven more than a few hundred miles, and always garaged and clean. No accidents in its history. And yet, its electrical system seems to be disintegrating. I feel my life is in danger in this car, and I obviously cannot sell it without these items being fixed, harming me further financially. Please act on this complaint as soon as possible.
"low power steering fluid". 2nd time taken SUV to the dealership, for power steering fluid been below the min mark. Dealership said they inspected vehicle for leaks, no found. Dealership stated that in this type vehicles is normal that fluid evaporate and that just need to be refill everytime goes below min. In my opinion this is like brake system were fluid don't evaporate but will go low in the existence of a leak. Dealership need to do an inpection with the vehicle operating to look for leak since it could be leaking straight to the ground when vehicle is on the move.
Leaking power steering fluid from unknown area caused smoke from under the hood and loss of steering capabilities while in motion. Also occasional ignition switch issues that occur when pressing the start button. Starter keeps turning the engine over however the vehicle never completes the crankng cycle. Driver has to open the door then hit the start button again before starter will stop. Push cap start must then be removed and the key inserted in order to turn the engine over and crank properly.
Rack and pinion leaking power steering fluid in cold weather.
Dealership related the found steering gear had no fluid, it was leaking and needed to be replaced. We park the car in the garage and have no leaks on the floor. Where is all this leaking fluid going?.
Power steering fluid leaking; according to dealer, power steering fluid is highly flammable and may cause a fire forcing me to pay the $1,600 for a new steering rack. 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 26k miles.
I began having difficulty steering and turning my vehicle at low speeds. I took my car to the shop for an oil change and mentioned the issue to the mechanic. They found that my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with 39k milage, that I have only been driving for 9months, had been leaking power steering fluid and the line was dry. After discovery this issue, I took the car to the dealer who told me the power steering pump and reservoir had failed and needed to be replaced. After this repair my car drove fine for about 100 miles, but now the steering has failed completely while driving 30mph in city traffic on the way to work.
Rack and pinion is leaking power steering fluid. A crack in the seal has developed in the rack on the front passenger side. The vehicle has never had any other issues like this before. Also the computer has not indicated low power steering fluid but the mechanic told me it was low. The vehicle was not driven recklessly or off road that would cause a crack like this. There is no simple fix for this other than a $1300+ repair for an issue that is a defect. I have had 2 mechanics and the dealership look at the issue and give me quotes. I discovered this in January.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving various speeds, the power steering fluid leaked out approximately every 500 miles. The vehicle was taken to saitta trudeau Chrysler Jeep Dodge in pahrump, nevada where it was diagnosed that the power steering fluid had evaporated. The dealer stated that there was no repair for the failure and that the contact would have to bring in the vehicle to have the power steering fluid replaced or "topped off" when necessary. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,000.
I am losing power steering fluid on my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee - there is a leak somewhere in the steering. I have only 40,k miles on this vehicle. There have been many complaints on this and is obviously a defect in the steering system - Chrysler should recall and repair this problem.
The power steering fluid has dropped in my reservoir and has been dropping ever since I have owned this car. It has been topped off by the dealer on 3 occasions since I have owned this car. It has dropped to a level half way between the minimum and maximum marks on the reservoir mostly recently in less than 2000 miles. I have brought it to the attention of the dealer on five different occasions since I have owned this car(2. 5 yrs) and all they say is they cannot find any leaks. The power steering system is a closed, pressurized system that should not leak at all. Chrysler Jeep has basically ignored my concerns, declined to look further into this problem and has closed my case on this matter. I have been told by a local auto service center that this is an on going problem with this engine(3. 6l v-6 pentastar) in all Chrysler autos as they regularly need to top off the power steering fluid in all these cars. The car was stationary when the power steering fluid was checked and the fluid at normal operating temperature.
Tl- the contact owns 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power steering while driving 15mph. The failure happened without warning. Upon inspection of the vehicle the contact saw power steering fluid had leaked from the vehicle. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer and was diagnoised that the power steering hose had a defective clamp and it needed to be replaced. The manufcaturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle failure mileage was approximatle 500. The VIN was not provided. Kh.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that upon inspecting the vehicle, the power steering fluid was low and that there was an internal fracture which caused a leak of the power steering fluid with no warning. The contact was not included in NHTSA action number: pe12020 (steering). The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and diagnosis to determine the failure. The VIN was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
Rack and pinion leaking. On July 23 2012 there was an article published about cars going on for due to power steering fluid spraying on motor. Please recall this problem. It's has affected many.
The power steering hose is leaking fluid onto the engine.
Seal fails prematurely on rack and pinon. It leaks into boot sealing the connection between the end of the rack and the inner rods, which masks the problem. Because the vehicle is not dripping fluid the leak goes unnoticed. I see this as a serious issue, as most people do not expect the rack & pinion to fail at such an early interval they are probably not checking fluid levels. . This could potentially cause lack of steering and result in many accidents. Jeep is ignoring the problem, message boards on internet are full of people reporting this issue. I would like to see it investigated.
Last Saturday (01/31/2015), I got 48k service done on this Jeep. Yesterday (02/02/2015) the steering wheel got jammed when my wife was reversing the vehicle from the driveway. We found out that the power steering fluid was missing. I took the Jeep back to the dealer and they found that the power steering fluid container is leaking.
The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking power steering fluid. As a result, the vehicle jerked while turning left or right. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 32,000.
A week ago before incident, power steering pump fluid level showed normal. About 63 miles later, the vehicle got steering wheel become stiff and near impossible to turn either direction. Then engine overheated very quickly and then engine stalled without warning. There was no "engine check" warning on instrument. A/c stopped working just before overheated. Found antifreeze solution leaked out into street surface. Next day, the vehicle had to tow and delivered to Jeep dealer sane date as incident. They informed me about problem was failed power steering pump assembly because of fluid leaked. That same pump also drive twin cooling fans instead of electric motor. I learned Chrysler knew about this incident and then redesigned later model quietly. I also found many incident from online forum as so many owners have same kind of experience. There was no recall from Chrysler because it related to near lock-up steering wheel. If I drive over 65 mph on I-95 would lead lost control with steering wheel. No computer system detect this situation because there was no sensor to watch for fluid level in the steering pump. No warning at all until incident. Paid 100 dollars for lifetime service contract through Chrysler. This situation, Chrysler should recall to prevent lost steering control and avoid engine overheating and possible engine damage. They avoid to use electric cooling fans to save money. Use hydraulic from power steering pump was not Smart way included lack of sensor(s) for computer for early warning. This kind of incident, must recall to correct the situation as I asked them if new power steering pump had been updated. No answer this question and learned the pump made by Toyota and there are many owners as mentioned above that face unexpectedly failures. This incident consider as dangerous and harmful to owner/passenger(s) safety.

Purchased new in 2009. The Jeep Grand Cherokee 2009 limited 8 cylinder hemi engine started leaking power steering fluid from the power steering line with very low mileage. The mechanic back in 2012 said there was a problem with the power steering line leaking due to pressure and needed to replace it. Said it could cause a fire and loss of steering so I paid the large price to fix the issue. I thought it was a one-off problem. The exact same issue happened one month ago in 2014 (exactly 2 years later) and I was curious if others are having the same issue. I did some research to find that same Chrysler engine and power steering used in many 2009-2012 Jeeps and Dodge ram trucks are having the same issue of a power steering line failure. This is a major problem as it can cause fires and/or loss of steering. I believe there is already an investigation by the NHTSA # pe 12-020. The odi nos. 10465379, 10461736, 10459178. Please advise.

We had noticed a small puddle of fluid in our garage and took car to be serviced at Jeep. They said it was transmission fluid and fixed the problem. Next day we drove 500 miles to oliver bc and when we stopped the car, we noticed a larger puddle of red fluid from the left front area under car. The car was difficult to steer and realized it must be power steering fluid that was leaking. We took it to a dealer in pentiction, bc and they said that there was no power steering fluid left in the system. They "located power steering leak, as clamp was not released, they released clamp, cleaned off the fluids, refilled reservoir, road tested and no leaks. " we then drove another 300 miles to our destination and have not had any leaks and the power steering seems fine. We just bought the car in may and it only has 2100 miles on it.
Received email from son about power steering hose leaking which could cause a fire after we purchased 2013 Jeep grand (purchased on may 31). Went to check for leakage. . . Found leakage. Went to dealer, they couldn't determine leakage eventhough informed them where to look. I went back to the shop area and instructed them where to look; finally the technician did find the leak . . . Due to a power steering pump crack. So in your investigation for power steering hose causing fires, investigate for the pump also. We are still checking daily for leakage, eventhough the pump was replaced. Power steering fluid has been added, and fluid is still disappearing !!.
