Consumer complained about steering problems. There was a honking noise when the steering wheel was turned. Intermittently steering wheel made a popping noise while driving, especially when turning, and the steering wheel failed to go in the locked position when the vehicle was turned off. The rear windshield wipers were defective. The rotors were replaced, there was a gap in the back door which caused the door locks not to work, the door had to be repainted and the steering wheel cover peeled. Mr.

Transfer case bad on delivery. Snap ring not installed unit replaced. Brake rotors warp every 20k miles. Replaced with aftermarket at 40k. . Steering column clunk and feels loose. Dealer replaced with new, same problem exists. Excessive clunking and looseness in driveline. Loud clunk park to reverse dealer says normal but lots of complaints. Mr.

While driving attempting to make a right hand turn steering wheel became stiff and difficult to control, vehicle merged into another lane. And hit post sign, damage to front driver side of the vehicle, there was an NHTSA recall bulletin for 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee manufactured in Nov and Dec, 2000. An internal nut in the steering gear assembly could loosen and cause steering to lock up. Dealer has been contacted.

Transmission has a constant problem w/reverse, loud noise and rough engagement Jeep stated it's normal to factory/specs. Steering column has knocking noise and is loose/play. Has been replaced once. Same problem exists with steering column & Jeep refuses to fix. Jeep says it's normal to factory/specs this time. Fuel pump has been replaced due to vehicle not starting due to pressure problem in fuel pump. Vehicle sometimes does not start after fuel pump replaced. Jeep states it's normal to factory/specs and refuses to fix.
While driving with headlights on, if consumer moves or tilts steering wheel, headlights go out. The tilt steering wheel problem is due to defective design by manufacturer. When the wheel was tilted to the maximum, the multifunction switch connector become unpluged.
Steering wheel/column is making a clicking noise when wheel is turned, and steering wheel feels as if it is loose. Also, when wheel is turned a beeping noise is emitted on a random occurrence. Dealership has examined vehicle, and changed gear box three (3) times. However , problem has not been corrected. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

The consumer is experienced a recurring problem with the brakes. The problems are as followed: shimmying, squeaking/squealing in the brake system, shimmy/shake in the steering wheel, and warped rotors. The vehicle is was still under warranty, but the consumer was told that there was no way possible that this problem could be covered by warranty, and learned from the dealer that they are aware of the problem, which is a caliper problem. (which indicates that the problem will occur again) the rotors were refaced and resurfaced, and the pads were resurfaced. Refer to odi#768226.
When driving less than 10mph steering intermittently locks up either turning left or right. Dealer couldnt duplicate on 4 previous visits. Resently had 2 near misses in intersection due to steering lockup. Steering will become released when I apply maximum strength. I am really scared for my family.

Steering column is misaligned and when driving has to continuously pull the wheel to the left. Dealer is aware of the problem. Several attempts were made to remedy the problem, but problem still exists.

Steering column failed causing noise. Mjs.
Exhaust pipe bent & rubbed against the plastic gas tank which caused a hole that allowed a leak. Took to dealer & was informed owner needs metal piece between tank & exhaust. Manufacturer not taking responsibility of financial replacement. Consumer was never made aware of the skip plate option, requesting reimbursment. Transmission has a pause when upshifting from 2 to 3, when in 4wd, the left wheel grinds when turning. The right front power lock made a grinding noise when power door locks were actuated, dealer installed new door latch assembly. Steering wheel was not centered, causing vehicle to drift to the left while driving.
While turning corner at low speed an additional key on the key ring became wedged in a hole on rear of steering wheel spoke, it pulled key ring such tha tit would take great effort to turn steering wheel. When wheel turned, it caused loss of power.
Due to a broken column shaft the consumer lost all power in the steering.

Steering wheel locks up on left hand turns. Dealer replaced pump 1997.
Bearings in the steering column malfunctioned, causing a clicking noise when the wheel was turned. Dealer has inspected the vehicle.
