2 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/07/2021

When in motion (has happened multiple times on the highway) the engine will stall and the engine cuts off randomly while driving. No error codes or warnings come on, power steering and power brakes no longer function either but the radio stays on. Dealer has replaced the fuel pump relay twice but its not fixed. Because the computer doesn't recognize an error the dealer has said they can't diagnose it as an issue. But Jeep forums widely show that many people are still having this issue. .

3 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

On September 1, 2020 shortly after starting the vehicle and while in motion, the engine stopped causing loss of control of the vehicle. I was able to bring the vehicle to stop in roadway with hard pressure on brakes. Fortunately, no contact was made with person or property. I attempted to re-start the vehicle but it would only crank and not start. Several minutes later was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle has had trouble starting on many occasions prior but this was the first time it stopped while driving. The only indication the vehicle had lost power was when I attempted to slow the vehicle and turn the wheel. Prior to this the dealership has examined the issue on at least four separate occasions spanning years. I have been told the fuel pump relay has been replaced twice on this vehicle. After both of these alleged repairs the vehicle has exhibited the same symptoms and returned to the dealership. In the last visit with the dealership on June 23, 2020 and phone call with fca us llc's customer service on September 1, 2020 I was directly informed that no solution exists. There is no advanced notice to the driver as this does not occur each time the vehicle is driven. When the vehicle does lose power while driving, no noticeable indication of this danger can be quickly observed by the driver. It was only noticed when I attempted to maneuver the brakes or steering wheel. This is a known and hazardous condition created by fca us llc. Which they have not adequately addressed.

6 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/26/2020

A family member in another state owned and pampered this vehicle for many years, prior to my acquiring it. Recently the hose to the powering steering pump blew off while she was driving it (non highway) and it was taken in to be serviced (through the dealership), well after their initial repair, we were told that during their test drive "after" that repair, the hose had again blown off so more days were needed with the vehicle to again repair the issue. A few days later we were called and told that issue had been solved and that we could retrieve the vehicle. That same night, I, while sitting in the vehicle (with it in idle), hear a "pop" which turns out to be the hose again, mind you, each time this happens, the pump spews power steering fluid all over the engine, this particular night I even found it on the underside of the engine roof. Well the car was again sent back to the dealership the next day, they had it approximately 3 days before again we got the call that the repairs had been completed, we were told that this time it was due to probably what was a faulty power steering pump, which they replaced. Two days later I took possession of the vehicle as the original owner (family member) was too concerned about driving it again. Thankfully my drive back to my state (2 days later) went uneventful, however, 2 days after being home and driving it (non highway), sure enough I hear that familiar "pop" and again the hose has blown off, power steering fluid everywhere, along with my sanity. I see that this was a known issue back in 2012 but it never became a recall, but, a fix was implemented, so if this is the case why is this happened with the same piece of equipment numerous times and the dealership can't seem to solve this known issue??.

11 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/13/2018

On December 13, 2018 we attempted to move our Jeep from one parking space to another. Turning into the new space, the power steering went completely out making it extremely difficult to steer at all. The Jeep was taken into the dealership, who told us the power steering pump would need replaced. The part was on back order and it would take until after christmas to get in. We were forced to drive the Jeep with the power steering not working. In winter, in ne ohio. When christmas time came and went, the dealership informed us that the part was still not available and we would have to wait until January 30, 2019 - 7 weeks since the incident occurred. Here we are, January 31, 2019 and now the dealership tells us there is nothing they can do and it will be at least March, 2019 until they can get any replacement. We purchased this vehicle in February, 2018. And this problem occurred 10 months later. Jeep should be responsible for having replacement parts available on their vehicles, especially something as important as power steering in the dead of winter in ohio. Very unsafe, and very dissatisfied!.

12 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/21/2018

Steering wheel locked up while driving, was told by mechanic it is the electric power steering pump. Also a week before the drivers headrest suddenly deployed while driving (Jeep has never been into a car accident & I am the original owner to this 2014) was told it will be at least $2000 with all parts & labor. This is very serious and dangerous and I have read the steering wheel has locked up on hundreds of others while driving. The Jeep did not turn off when the steering wheel locked up. While driving to get out of the road the engine revved up at 20 mph and the Jeep did not want to go- had to switch into sport mode to continue to drive out of the road way and the engine revving calmed down. The head rest is broke and can not go into its regular position. Did not get a price estimate on that yet. This should be fixed by Jeep!!!.

13 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/09/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and the steering wheel became difficult to steer. The vehicle was able to coast to the side of the road and the contact powered off the engine. Once restarted, the vehicle drove normally. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start intermittently. The vehicle was taken to river oaks Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram (4807 kirby dr, houston, TX 77098) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump was not holding pressure. The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

14 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/15/2018

Vehicle stalled while driving in highway traffic at about 40 mph. Lost ability to steer as power steering quit working. There is a year-old recall to fix fuel pump relay problems but fca, the manufacturer, has yet to provide dealers with the parts needed to fix this problem. This is totally unacceptable as we have continued to drive this vehicle since we do not have, nor can we afford, another vehicle. Please pressure fca/Jeep to provide parts to dealers immediately. Recall # v62/NHTSA 19v-813.

15 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/27/2018

While driving my car in the city, I experienced a sudden engine shutdown, and entirely lost control over the car (steering, breaks etc. ) the car was towed to Chrysler's certified garage, where the malfunction was identified as a failure of the fuel pump relay (the same relay which was already been replaced, as part of recall r09). The garage also re-confirmed that this relay has been replaced under the recall, in 2015. The meaning of this failure demonstrates that practically, replacing the unit under recall r09 has not solved the problem and the risk is still there! I have reported this incident to fca in europe, and was responded that this failure "could happen in 5 years old car" and therefore, there is no safety issue that requires them to warn other owners. However, I have found on-line lots of similar complaints, most of them in the us, indicating that the failure of the replaced fuel relay is common, and that fca do not take responsibility. . 16 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/13/2018

The car stalled and engine shut off while driving, decelerating around a left turning curve. Lost acceleration capability, power steering, brakes, and electrical system (no emergency flashers). Could barely control car and ended driving through curve, off the road, down into small ravine and into field. Were fortunate to avoid road signs and telephone pole. Car restarted after putting gear in park. Very afraid to drive this vehicle anymore. Not able to get appointment with Jeep dealer for another week. Research shows this could be related to faulty tipm. Our service records indicated this Jeep did receive Chrysler group safety recall p54 (NHTSA #14v530) tipm internal fuel pump relay replacement, which states is a potential cause of the car losing power. Seems to have not prevented the moving car from losing power.

17 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/01/2017

Tl the contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While operating the vehicle, a grinding and humming noise was present from the steering column. Also, the power steering assist suddenly malfunctioned and caused the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn in either direction. 18 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/30/2017

My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland v8 hemi stalls while slowing down to turn onto another road, or going from highway speeds to exiting a ramp. It's been occurring for several years. I've already had the fuel pump relay recall fixed twice, and my Jeep still stalls out almost on a daily basis. It turns out Chrysler issued a recall (t36) for 2012-2014 Jeeps with alternator issues; however the information I have read on the recall sounds a lot like what is happening to my Jeep. 2011 Jeep gc overland should be included in this recall.

19 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/12/2017

Takata recall I just purchased my Jeep back in June and can view the service history. This complaint in particular has to do with extended crank. My Jeep takes awhile to start. I see that there was a fuel pump relay recall. I see in my service history that my Jeep had this part replaced: 02/02/2015 78,423 mi at jt's Chrysler Jeep Dodge fiat. Again, according to the symptom/conditions, I am still experiencing the same issue, and would like this fixed as soon as possible because of safety concerns. I am experiencing or have a symptom/condition of a clunk and/or bump felt through the steering wheel under moderate braking or driving over rough roads (19-003-14) part to fix known issue is (ar) 05057539ad shaft, steering column intermediate. I would like this fixed as soon as possible because of safety concerns. I am experiencing a symptom/condition of a powertrain issue. When accelerating, I feel the transmission slipping and the engine makes very noisy and abrupt vibrations. All lubricant is new. I would like this fixed as soon as possible because of safety concerns. My window washing feature does not spew fluid onto front windows, however, will spew liquid on rear window. I would like this fixed as soon as possible because of safety concerns.

20 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

21 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/18/2017

Bought my car from parks Ford of wesley chapel on 7/16/17. 2 days later, the car had trouble starting. My mechanic looked it over. It had a power steering rack leak and embedded dirt underneath its carrier. Brought car back to Ford. They found nothing. Called again because of same problem. Was told by manager duber to try locking and unlocking car to engage starter. Did not work. Brought to Jeep. They found that a recall on the relay to the fuel pump was never fixed. They also said the front shocks were blown and leaking and not covered under warranty. Warranty company said that car had preexisting conditions and should have never left the dealership. They refused to fix it. This great price was false representation and misleading. I never would have bought the car knowing it needed all of this work.

22 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/07/2017

1- surround sound is auto turn to stay on. When turn off no any effects. 2- some noise come in driver side from dash or engine room. This noise like air sound from air pump every 10 to 25 sec with synchronous small some effect in rpm.

23 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/02/2016

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee will experience engine stall while the vehicle is in motion, at times in excess of 30 mph. This causes a loss of power steering and power brake functions. It has likewise stalled at stop lights/signals which is equally dangerous when vehicles are approaching from behind at high speeds expecting the vehicle in front to move with the green light. Chrysler issued a recall (p54) related to these issues, however the cheap external fuel pump relay wiring harness fix they employed to remedy the problems can be characterized as insufficient at best. In fact, the issues with our family vehicle have actually worsened since the p54 recall was performed in may of 2015. The vehicle's problems have now progressed to the point where the vehicle will not start: a typical symptom of these dangerous Jeep/Chrysler products. There are literally hundreds of consumer complaints outlining similar issues I. E. , the vehicles being difficult to start or not starting at all, vehicles' power windows not operating properly, door locks opening and locking on their own, horn blaring, the vehicle not recognizing the fob, electronic fuel pumps remaining on after the vehicle is shut off and stalling while the vehicle is in motion. A common theme related to all of these issues seems to be the power distribution center for the vehicles or the tipm (total integrated power module). It seems fiat - Chrysler has been aware of the problems with their oem manufactured tipm parts for some time, since 2007, but took the woefully inadequate route of correcting only a small and less dangerous issue of the manufacturers defect. Hence their court ordered p54 external fuel pump wiring harness, which on a good day will correct the fuel pump run-on. What needs to be addressed is the stalling while in motion issues associated with these vehicles. Please mandate a safety recall.

30 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/05/2014

The steering started to make a grinding noise and became difficult to drive. Took right away to dealer and was told a part in the steering came apart and messed up the steering and power pump. Was not safe to drive. Still in garage and will cost 1340$ to fix. This is dangerous and I am glad I was only doing 35 at the time. How many others has this happened to. What if I was going faster or even on the interstate? would not have been able to control the Jeep. This needs to be investigated.

32 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

There are three key parts that must work after a car starts, steering, braking and accelerating. The brake booster and power steering pump in my ¿11 Jeep Grand Cherokee need to be replaced. I¿m currently taking all precautions when driving, however this is not nearly enough. I feel that an accident is inevitable. It has now been two weeks waiting for two parts. Facing the worst weather conditions in years I would like to feel safe driving to work and with my family. I understand that certain statistics have to meet before issuing a costly recall, however under these conditions i¿m faced with (backordered parts) I don¿t see why an exception shouldn¿t be issued against Chrysler. If a problem exists you should be able to have the parts available to meet demand. Not being able to meet demand will almost surely provoke a class-action lawsuit. My question is what steps are being taken by the natsa against Jeep/Chrysler? hit the gym and flex your muscles. The worst action is not taking one.

33 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

The vehicle lost all electrical power, steering and braking while in motion. The vehicle lost all control of steering and breaking when the electrical system shutoff. The electrical issue has happened 3 times within the first 2 year of ownership (~32,000 miles). The following parts have been replaced: fuel pump relay and overlay harness, wireless ignition node, integrated key fob, tipm kit, 2 key fobs, brake bootser. Vehicle almost caused 3 severe accidents while in motion.

34 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/16/2013

Wife traveling with son on fwy at legal speed of 70 mph w/cruise control on, car suddenly decelerated causing a violent maneuver forcing car into neighboring lane and almost crashing. She stated it was as if it suddenly downshifted into lowest gear and brakes applied forcefully. Regaining control she deactivated the cruise control and proceeded to destination at 50 mph. Took to dealership in davis where it was diagnosed as catastrophic failure of the transfer case which was then replaced at the cost of $2842. 75. She retrieved car two days later and proceeded to drive back home (distance is @ 178 mi one way). Car repeated sudden deceleration upon entering the fwy and getting up to speed. Continued home due to medical appointments to keep. Kept cruise control off but called dealership to report that replacing the transfer case did not solve the problem. I pulled codes upon her arriving home and found only code 0430 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold [bank 2] indicating the converter not working to specs. Today she was returning to davis to visit with grandchildren and experienced the same situation. At 70 mph car suddenly decelerated rapidly (as if brakes were applied forcefully) and caused her to abruptly move into the lane to her left. She regained control and continued on at 50 mph. The dealership informed her no mechanics would be available until Monday but as she has a flight out of lax to catch early Monday a. M. She decided to continue on to l. A. Without using the cruise control and proceeding at slower speed. The power steering pump was replaced on 4/15/2013 at dealerships recommendation due to a leak and the transmission was serviced in addition to having new valve cover and gasket put on. Spark plugs replaced, throttle body and combustion chambers cleaned and pcv valve replaced. Internet research indicates this is a repeated problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

35 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/16/2011

Steering losing power when turning right, accompanied by a whine and sounds of pressure loss. No leaks in power steering pressure hoses, no leaks in gear box (gear box was dry), no leaks in any other relevant parts within the steering system. Problem was investigated by aaa and pepboys. Power steering pump replaced and flushed on 6-Jan-12. The loss of power steering problem is still persisting, and is worse now with a new pump and clean pump system. Pepboys national research indicates that the problem is within the gearbox, spacer clip moving out of position when turning right cutting off power to the steering system, and moving back into position when turning left restoring power to the steering system. Chrysler has a TSB reported March 4, 2003 for this exact failure. Chrysler claims this vehicle's VIN is not included in the manufacturer's TSB, NHTSA campaign number: 03v079000. Case has been opened with Chrysler - case #: 21743619. I cannot steer this vehicle at all without the assist of power steering. Extremely concerned with the potential danger of losing power steering while driving causing a crash, flipping, and potential serious injuries or death.
