The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was turned off and restarted however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was driven to the residence. While attempting to place the gear shifter in park, the transmission failed to engage. The started to roll backwards and the parking brake was activated to stop the vehicle. The contact was unable to turn the vehicle off. After a while, the vehicle loss power and turned off. The following day after starting the vehicle, the contact attempted to shift the vehicle out of gear however, the transmission failed to engage. The vehicle was towed to transitowne Jeep Chrysler Dodge ram of west seneca (2989 transit rd, elma, NY 14059) to be diagnosed however, the diagnostic test was still pending. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 13,787.

Here are times when I have pulled out (with various people in the car) most recently my 13 year-old-son, who was screaming, "dad what are you doing, we are about to be hit," and the car has completely shut down. (no interior lights, or running engine) quick thinking saved us from a major disaster. We were almost t-boned last week because of this problem. This would not be the first time for this problem. Problem #3: while driving, I pulled out from my street, a red light or parking lot and the transmission did not engage, the engine revved (without moving) and again, I was almost t-boned. It happened again this morning. Problem #4: there are times when I am traveling up or downhill, the transmission will wind out, the tachometer will spike and then the Jeep makes a knocking noise and then I can continue. You could drive the car for months and then all of a sudden it happens. Problem #5: I was backing into my driveway, the back up camera stopped working and my Jeep completely shut down. This happens on more than one occasion and has no precursor to when it is going to happen.

Transmission will disengage while driving at any given speed. The only way to correct it is to coast to a stop, put the transmission in park then shut off the engine and restart. Only then will car become drivable again. This is extremely hazardous when on the interstate or expressway. Check engine light comes on and a code p2767 is always present when this occurs. My Jeep mechanic says its an expensive repair as the transmission has an internal servo short and has to be disassembled to repair it. My Jeep only has 56,685 on the odometer. Not covered under warranty and I am told is a common problem with this model transmission. Someone is going to get killed trying to coast to a stop or accelerating to get onto a interstate when the transmission shuts down. Happens at any speed. Turning, going straight, highway or rural roads, bumps or no bumps, uphill or downhill. Comes without warning. Engine rpms increase but car is just coasting.

I drive the 2014 gr cherokee with the electronic gear shifter that has been recalled for the shifter not engaging all of the way into park. I had the recall 'fix' done a couple of months ago, but then found out from the dealer that the emergency brake only engages if you attempt to open one of the doors. About a week ago, after parallel parking on a busy city street, I put the car in park and remained in the car for about another minute while fishing quarters out of my cupholder (for the parking meter). I all of a sudden felt like something hit my car, looked up only to find my car had rolled backward into the parked car behind me. I have a huge bike rack on the back of my Jeep that blocks the reverse camera, so the audible security alert is always on when the car is in reverse - this alert did not come on while the car was rolling backward, therefore, the car was not in reverse, but rather not in park all of the way. Thankfully there were no pedestrians behind my car, nor any damage to either vehicle, however, if a person would have had their back to me, I would have crushed them between the two cars. My car has now been at the dealership for 6 days (second time for same issue) and I'm dealing with customer service departments within Chrysler/Jeep to rectify this issue somehow. I want either a new gear shifter that is not electronic, or to get out of this vehicle. This gear shifter is an enormous safety hazard. I feel like I'm getting the run-around, to say the least, about a major recall that is the auto makers fault, not the consumer. For the record, I have been driving approximately 30 years and typically average 20-30k miles/year. I am consulting a lawyer at this point.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While attempting to shift into park, the vehicle would not engage and scratched the front driver side of the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 29,000.
Transmission oil turned milky and vehicle would not move. After servicing transmission vehicle now will not engage into park, stays in reverse. Vehicle was parked when it would not move from parking spot but, after trans fluid was changed and trans serviced when you go to park it and put the shifter into park the vehicle moves in revers.

On several occasions, the transmission was not full engaged in park, when I started to exit the vehicle and the unit began moving. While I have not been injured, the system of shifting needs to be improved, so that it is clear the unit is in park. It is hard to see the dash indicator regarding what gear the vehicle is engaged. The situation is unnerving at times. The vehicle operates well in other aspects.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When the gear shift was placed in park, the gear failed to engage and the vehicle rolled more than once. The contact had to quickly get back into the vehicle, ensure the gear was completely in park, and apply the emergency brake. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was not available.
My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee transmission failed to engage in parking gear on a hill in a parking lot and rolled away into another parking car with a driver inside damaging both cars and resulting in insurance claims to fix the damage. No injures but damage to both vehicles. Recent software upgrade to fix issue is horrible. Providing claim documentation on both vehicles involved.
While accelerating attempting to merge onto highway vehicle loses all power and transmissions seems to disengage and only coasts. Car acts like if I shifted into neutral but gear selected is still drive. Check engine light illuminates and engine responds to acceleration but no movement is given by transmission. Rpm gauge goes all the way down to idle. Had to pull over the side of the road place in park, shut engine off and restart the vehicle then continue. This is a very dangerous and frightening situation, all power is lost and no control of acceleration is given. This is the 5th time in a year time span, this has happened. Started at about 50000 miles. This has almost caused rear end collisions as well, please look into this matter. I cannot imagine what other less skilled drivers do especially carrying children or pets very dangerous, needs a recall or sb.

Transmission disengages at speed from drive to neutral. Shift lever and indicator remain in drive even though vehicle loses motive power. I thought we were going to get rear ended. I had to pull over to the shoulder and restart the engine to put it back in drive. This problem has occurred three times previously. After checking all the blogs, I see that the switch contacts in the esm (electronic shift module) are prone to failure. The esm/shifter bezel is a $795 part from Chrysler.
The contact owns a 1993 Jeep grand wagoneer. While in park with the emergency brake engaged, the vehicle would disengage and shift into reverse independently. Also, the contact mentioned that while attempting to start the vehicle, the key would not engage the ignition. In addition, the contact stated that while having the muffler replaced, the technician found that a bolt was missing from the motor mount. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign numbers: 02v053000 (power train), 93v210000 (steering), 93v051000 (suspension). However, the remedies failed to repair the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the vehicle would continue to move inadvertently after the recall repair and that the steering failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 169,000.
After reading almost all complaints with other 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokees, I have to put in my two cents worth. I can relate to almost every complaint that there is. I just had both my front left and right window regulators replaced a month and a half apart, one just today at $327. 00 with my employee discount. (I work for a car dealership) last month, I have had almost $500. 00 worth of repairs for my power steering pump problems. I have had my brake rotors turned and resurfaced and am in need of doing it again. Then on the other hand, I have experienced problems with my dual control panel not working correctly which I have not have repaired yet because I don't have the money for that one and didn't know at the time that it was a problem. Then when my Jeep was under warranty I have had the air conditioner compressor replaced, new battery(for hard or no starting), amongst other repairs that I can't think of at the moment. I have also been experiencing hard starts with my truck and also the transmission not engaging or jumping (accelerating) while switching gears that the Jeep dealer has not been able to recognize as a problem. I feel that those new Chrysler commercials are not up to par as american and german engineering. Those germans know how to build vehicles in the first place and help repair them as the problem seem necessary.

The has a tendency to stall when shifting gear while backing up out of the drive after the car has been idle for a period of time. The transmission seems to "clunk" more than a new car should. Also noticed the tendency for the car to stall in stop and go traffic conditions. It seems the transmission is not disengaging properly pulling the rpm below idle. Shifting the car to neutral or giving gas prevents the engine from stalling.
Vehicle will either not engage transmission after shifting (for about 10 seconds) or less commonly will suddenly accelerate on its own when put in reverse requiring hard pressure of the brakes to stop the vehicle. Both events are probably related but dealer/Chrysler state they can not duplicate the problem. I find this to be a dangerous, life threatening defect and I believe it occurs to other Jeep as well. I will be going through arbitration then through the courts pursuing my rights under the lemon law. I worry more about others who may have defective vehicles and don't take the initiative to protect themselves. I hope NHTSA can investigate this further. Dt.

Purchased vehicle from mccune Chrysler-Plymouth-Jeep as a previosly owned vehicle that just finished a lease. On 02/08/2000, while driving home from bowling, the transmission would not upshift causing the engine rpms to climb to 4-5,000 rpm's (continued home, 7 miles). Wife next day 02/09/2000, took kids to school and on the freeway to her mom's house ( a distance of only 5 miles), transmission failed to stay engaged, she crept home at about 5-15 mph. This transmission was serviced every 12-18,000 miles. The last service done was at 70,150 miles, (atf+3, filter&gasket)failure happened at 77,740 miles, I was stunned! I called mccune and asked if there was a recall and if there was anything that they can do, I was given an estimate of $2,200+, and was told there was no recall. I took the Jeep down to a local transmission shop (coronas transmission) and was told that the transmission was "burnt up". Went to get a second opinion at aamco, given estimate of $1800+. I was so disappointed that a "top-of-the-line Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 4x4" failed to perform at such a low mileage. In my disheartened state, on 02/11/2000 I traded my pride and joy (took a heavy loss) for a Ford expedition XLT. As much as I loved my Jeep's styling, performance and luxury, I will never buy another.

Transmission fails to engage while in drive on uphill slope. Eventually engages after 1-4 seconds. Problem is intermittant. Dealer can not duplicate to date and refuses to take further action. I would like clutches replaced.
