3 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

The shifter began jumping out of gear about October, 2020. . . When I would put in park getting out it had moved back to drive and I had to quickly get back in and put back in park. There had been an earlier re call, took to dealer ship and they supposedly fixed whatever problem was. At time of recall I did not have any problems. As time wore on I began to have shifter problems. The light on shifter began to go off and on and it getting out of shift became more frequent . . . Took to dealership in southaven ms. . . Service mgr said there had no complaints. . . My research showed different. . . He said they would have to replace place but back order. . . This was in November. It is now January, 21 and I am still driving and the shifter is still on back order, according to landers Jeep they know when they will be able to replace with corp saying that 357 shifters so far are on back order. . . That is all that they would do. . . . This situation is not only dangerous but scary. . . Chrysler continues to shove under the rug issues with the shifter and doesn't seem to care about customers who need more than just lies and blank stares.

4 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/18/2018

After purchasing this car pre-owned in 2008 we began having issues with the transmission shifting. After bringing back into dealership for diagnostic testing, they found nothing. This went on for a period of two years, with them even keeping the car over a period of time. Still nothing on the diagnostics. Throughout the years we would notice a strong downshift when coming to stops and a "chug" when shifting out of low gears. Fast forward to 2018. The Jeep finally quit shifting out of first gear. . . The rpms would race up and the car just wouldn't sift even when using shifter stick manually to the + or -. Brought to local mechanic. Did diagnostics. Found shifter was broken and replaced and reset. A few days went by and it started happening again. Mechanic said that rear wheel sensor had gone bad and was throwing of computer brain of car, so we had him replace that. All was great. Husband takes car on short trip and while passing a car in the left lane on interstate 10 it once aging chugs down hard and he loses gears. . . Has to pull over on side of interstate, shut off car and restart to get it to shift again. Bottom line is there has to be a long standing issue with drive/power train & electrical/computer brain!!! we have kept this car in great working order, regularly changing fluids and maintenancing. There is no reason this care should be behaving in this manner @ 12 years old, regularly maintained unless there is an outstanding issue with 2006 Jeeps. It has to be an overall problem and after reading many of the complaints we believe this warrants an investigation and defintely a recall!!! all of the above issues happened in both city street and highway situations and while the vehicle was in motion.

6 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/30/2018

My 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee (automatic transmission) will slip out of gear and then lurch and jerk forward as it goes back in. The entire car will shutter when this happens. This occurs often, both at low speeds on city streets and at higher freeway speeds. I will also lose power entirely when I am trying to accelerate on a freeway entrance ramp. The dealer said there is no issue, that the car just needed a bit more transmission fluid. This did not change anything. Moreover, it has happened while the transmission fluid was full. Two days ago, the car shifted into neutral while I was driving on a freeway going 65 mph with my young daughter in the car. It was terrifying. Depressing the accelerator pedal did nothing. We were then almost struck by another car as I coasted over to the shoulder. Additionally, while driving the car home after this occurred, it again shifted into neutral while I was going about 30mph on a city street. When I pushed on the gas pedal, the engine revved loudly, but gave me no power to move forward. Again I coasted to the side of the road. Jeep is denying that there is a dangerous transmission issue with this car, but I have found numerous statements online from Jeep owners experiencing the exact same thing. Moreover, I spoke to a transmission specialist who said he has seen this often with the Grand Cherokees. He stated that if there is not a recall yet, there should be. Please look into to this issue. This is going to cost people their lives if it is not addressed soon.

10 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/30/2016

Electronic transmission shifter is difficult to use. I have owned this vehicle for 3 weeks and have already unintentionally had my vehicle roll from a stopped position. In an attempt to place the vehicle in "park" from "drive," the vehicle was accidentally shifted into "reverse" due to poor operator friendliness compared to traditional shifters. Shifting the vehicle from "neutral" has also not registered correctly on occasions due to prerequisites to shift out of that gear (foot on brake and button held down). The shifter release button has very poor feedback and is difficult to use as well.

13 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/12/2015

I feel the 8 speed automatic shift lever is dangerous at best and could result in a deadly accident. On several occasions I have thought I was in park , pressed the off button and went to exit the vehicle only to find the engine was still running and I was in reverse. Since the shifter always returns to the center position, there is no positive "feel" that the lever is indeed in park. I know you can say I should have looked down to be sure the engine was actually off, and you are correct, but after some 50 years of driving I know when I think I have shifted into park and turned the engine off, and with this car you just can't tell. On one occasion I even exited the car, and when I went to open the trunk noticed the fob would not open the trunk. Suspecting the fob switch was failing, I opened the car door and found the engine was running and the car was still in drive. Thankfully, I had parked in a small pothole in an otherwise flat parking lot and idle speed was not enough for the cat to drive itself out of the hole. Additionally, if you accidently bump the shifter out of drive while in motion and into neutral, when you realize what you have done and bump back into drive, there is a several second lag before drive picks back up. Not horrible on low traffic roads, but could be a real hazard on an expressway in heavy traffic. General safety of this entire shifter assembly needs to be reviewed.

14 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/06/2015

I have had transmissions issues with my 2015 Jeep cherokee from the first week I purchased it. I have had my Jeep into the dealership to address this issues several times now. They have replaced the transmissions once, updated the firmware a couple of times, and are now just telling me "that's the way it is" and that I will just have to live with the problems. The transmissions jerks into gear a times, especially when accelerating after a near stop (spins the tires sometimes when it 'clunks' into gear), slips out of gear at times and 'clunks' back in (when traveling around 40 mph usually), and has also just quit functioning all together while trying to enter a freeway (had to pull over and stop/start car to get the transmission back). Every time I drive the car one of these issues can be observed. I am a very displeased long time Jeep owner. .

15 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/10/2015

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 60 mph, the coffee cup grazed the shifter. As a result, the vehicle shifted out of drive into neutral. The recall details were not provided. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.

Failure Date: 03/16/2015

18 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/05/2014

Was driving down highway approx. 65 mph when transmission appeared to jump out of gear, engine rev'ed to approximately 3000 to 4000 rpm's, coasted a distance and the car jumped back into gear and I continued on. The check engine light came on and the eoc signal turned off. This has happened on numerous occasions. The second time the dealer had it for a week+ and rebuilt the transmission. It happen again and they said they fixed it and it did not occur until just last week and it happen twice then. I was preparing to take it back this morning and when I got in the vehicle the check engine light was and it is now running fine. There was a 3 month period that it did not occur and as I said it happen twice last week. I purchased this used with 42500 miles on it, it now has 46500 miles. The dealers hayes Chrysler has done an outstanding job and has been very cooperative, but this is starting to get frustrating. Not sure if this is a safety issue, but likely it is. I have spoke to a couple of owners and they have had very similar stories about this vehicle. Please look into this issue.

20 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/04/2014

I pulled into my driveway and put the car in park. When stepping out of my car, it started rolling backwards, the door was open so it knocked me to the ground and I rolled to get out of the path of the wheel, only getting missed by seconds. I had pretty severe bruising but I did not see a doctor. I assume the car went into reverse as it rolled backwards, but it was a slight incline so it may have been neutral. I was mostly focused on the fact my car was rolling backwards at a good rate with my 4 and 1 year old still inside. The car stopped after jumping the curb and taking out the neighbors mailbox. I honestly didn't look at what gear it was in once stopped, I checked on my children and quickly moved it out of the middle of the road, I of course was in panic mode. It did $6004. 69 worth of damage to the car, plus the replacement of (2) carseats and a brick mailbox. I took the car in a few months ago for other recalls and let them know about the situation and they said "no problem found" of course. After seeing a report from you all today about this very same problem it prompted me to file a complaint, as I didn't know you existed. The car has slipped out of gear several other times in parking lots, both while I was driving and to my husband as well, but I am very careful to use my parking break every time I park the car after the accident.

23 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/31/2013

My Jeep has been slipping out of gear while driving frequently and all the car does is rev, as if it is in neutral. This has happened off and on over the last two years and nothing has been done about it. I have taken it to the dealership multiple times and they tell me that everything is fixed. Then it happens again when I least expect it. It is very dangerous for this to be happening while I'm driving with my 2 year old daughter in the car. I called the Chrysler recall number and they told me that I was not included in the recall and to just take it to the dealership, which I have already done several times and am tired of wasting my money. This is happening to my car and I don't want to wait until an accident happens. I will continue to log complaints and document each time this happens until something is done.

24 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/21/2013

This vehicle has allegedly been repaired by the dealership on Friday for the same issue I had today. Vehicle keeps jumping out of drive and goes into neutral. This is a big safety issue. While I was trying to turn left the vehicle jumped into neutral leaving me to face traffic coming towards me. I had to to press the brake pedal then put the vehicle back into drive to pull away. Thank god I was only traveling at a low speed and the other vehicles had time to slow down before hitting me. Either Jeep /Chrysler or my dealership is lying when they say the vehicle had been fixed!.

25 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/02/2011

My vehicle started originally slowing down like it slipped out of gear. I was told I needed a new transmission but when I replaced it I still had the same exact problem with the vehicle staying in limp mode and check engine light on, rpm running high and not going into overdrive. The transmission is not shifting correctly after spending over $1500. 00 on it. From my research I have arrived at the esm to be causing the problem with the vehicle not indicating what gear for the transmission to shift into. I have called the Jeep corporate office and even though they know that the transmission needed a repair when I first bought it with 17,000 miles on it they still did not feel they were responsible for my transmission problems. To me that are just avoiding the fact that this is a manufacture issue with either poor design, construction or quality of parts. I had a 1994 amigo that I put 280,000 miles on and I never once had any type of transmission issue. This is a 2006 vehicle this is the poorest experience I have ever had with a vehicle.

26 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/06/2010

I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 2 months ago while driving the vehicle without warning the vehicle looses power. It seems to drop out of gear. The vehicle cannot accelerate and you have to pull over and hope it will kick back in gear. I spoke with another 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee owner and the exact same thing happens to him and also one of his friends. I went to edmunds. Com and it seems this is a wide spread problem. We contacted Jeep and they said sorry it is out of warranty. This is not an isolated safety problem. I hope you can protect the american citizen from the sale and future use of faulty automobiles. These vehicle problems should be address before people die. Thank you.

29 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/14/2005

Vehicle transmission has always made strange clunking noises. Vehicle began to drop out of gear while driving and then finally (and currently) will completely shut off while driving. This has happened on numerous occasions and dealership says that they cannot duplicate the problem. A customer service manager did tell me that Jeep is aware of the problem and this is a common problem among v8 models such as mine but that they just do not know how to fix it so they have not yet issued a recall. However, Jeep is putting so many people at risk of an accident. Not only the vehicle drive but everyone else on the road around the vehicle. The vehicle now shuts off while in motion driving on a fairly regular basis but with no consistent pattern. $34,000 dollars worth of worry.

30 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Vehicle jumped out of gear from park to reverse, accelerating almost 30 mph. Dealer previously replaced transmission for "it was not grounded properly". Please add additional information.

31 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/20/2001

Over a period of several weeks, the transmission behaved erraticallty, often shifting out of gear into neutral or from neutral into drive. These shifts would occur when the engine was running but with no one touching the gear shift lever. Most often, this occurred at stop signs or lights. Then, on June 20, the transmission shifted into low gear on its own and remained locked there. Fortunately, no accidents or injuries have occurred. However, since taking the vehicle in for transmission repair or replacement, the dealer seems unable to fix the vehicle and has not been able to return it to me. This suggests a substantial and potentially inherent transmission problem with serious safety implications.

32 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/21/2001

Disc brakes continually need work. Rotors warp and must be turned every 10,000 miles! now the automatic transmission won't shift out of 2nd gear until the car is warmed up. What next? the brake maintenance alone has cost me nearly $2,000. This is a $30,000 vehicle and should not require this much maintenance!.
