Jeep Grand Cherokee owners have reported 17 problems related to transmission solenoid (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Jeep Grand Cherokee based on all problems reported for the Grand Cherokee.
Vehicle was in park at startup. With foot on brake, I pushed the start button. With engine running, transmission would not shift out of park. After turning the engine off and back on multiple times, it finally allowed me to shift (3rd time after it set for a few minutes). This problem looks very similar to the problem occurring in the same year vehicle which is subject to recall, however, my local dealership is saying my vehicle is not a part of the recall. "2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured may 15, 2015 to February 19, 2016. The brake transmission shift interlock solenoid. . . ".

First off the transmission wasn't shifting right. I was like it was getting stuck in 2nd gear or something. The rpms were raising high before it was shifting. Then my check engine came on, took it in to get a the code read code was p0700 and p0562 and p0750 so we changed the battery, the throttle body and had the transmission fluid and filters changed. Still same problem. Check engine light is still on with the same code . Took it to a transmission shop they said it is the solenoid pack. Now I have read a lot of the Jeep Chrysler forums and a whole lot of these Jeeps have had the same issue with the transmission. So I want to know how you can sell such an expensive vehicle with so many transmission issues. And why there has not been a recall on these transmissions. This is a big safety issue!! I think you need to fix or replace the transmissions in these Jeeps!! a recall should be done ASAP on these transmissions!!! I am extremely disappointed in Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep. I have not seen a recall as of yet on these transmissions. Yet there are so many people who have the same issues with these transmissions. I called Chrysler and they said there were no recalls yet on this transmission. I expect a call or email about this concern ASAP. Thank you, mrs. Mattle.

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving various speeds, the transmission would violently shift from first to second gear. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to kelly Jeep Chrysler (353 broadway, lynnfield, MA 01940, (781) 581-6000) where the computer was reprogrammed and the solenoid was replaced. The manufacturer was notified and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 11,420.
2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Consumer writes in regards to service department lack of communication to schedule and repair shift interlock solenoid electrical connector (16v-249) and left front brake caliper (16v-168) recall notices.
Safety concern: the issue with the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee I leased is that it slips out of drive and into neutral while the car is in motion! this happens on its own, without my touching the gear shift. When it slips into neutral, the gear shift says its still in drive. Three times I have taken my car in to be serviced for this problem to the dealer ship I leased it from and each time they have told me that their diagnostic test shows that there is nothing wrong with it, yet it continues slipping out of drive and into neutral. I most recently took the car to a different Jeep dealership and they are telling me the same thing. I have called fiat Chrysler corporation and spoken with gina lewis from their "Jeep resolution team" and they are not interested in fixing or getting the car off the road. They only tell me that because their diagnostic tests don't show that there is a problem, it is undocumented, therefore I should pick up the car and drive it. I understand the lemon laws and that problems need to be documented but this is potentially a life threatening safety issue and I am not willing to drive the car and wait for something terrible to happen before they acknowledge that there is a major transmission issue. At this point I am profoundly frustrated with the unwillingness of the dealer ships and fiat Chrysler corporation to do something about this dangerous car. It should also be noted that there was a recall for shift interlock solenoid in the beginning of 2016. I am terrified to drive my car and truly fear for myself and others until this car is taken back by Chrysler.
It usually takes a good 10 to 15 minutes to start sometimes then when I do get it started I have the same issues that I have read about on this website and many other websites. The car will not go over 20 miles per hour and you have to pull off the road, turn off the vehicle, wait and turn it back on. It is almost like the Jeep has to be reset. I have talked with several people and had the codes ran. It keeps coming up that it is the solenoid and starter. I have read on many blogs about the same issue that the solenoid wires are not protected from rain water in this vehicle and it causes them to corrode or go bad all together. This is an issue that needs to be recalled. If they know that the wires are not protected from rain water then there needs to be some type of protection that they can put over them or install a different kind of wire. This is costing people hundreds of dollars to repair something that should have never been an issue. Also this is a safety hazard because when we pull out on the road we expect our vehicle to excel properly and go over 20 miles per hour.

While driving for about 20mins the was a hard shift and my truck was stuck in 3rd gear and the check engine light came on. I took it to a mechanic and he said it could be the shift solenoid and it would cost 700 to take my transmission apart to check it. $700 later im still having the problem I bought the car at 82k im now at 92k I keep up regular service. What is weird is when I turn my turn my truck back on its no longer in 3rd and it stays that way for sometimes weeks but it comes back surely.
I have two problems with the vehicle that make it unsafe to drive. The first is that the engine randomly stalls. Most of the time it stalls when the vehicle is stopped. Sometimes it stalls at very slow speeds. When stopped, sometimes I hear a "thunk" right before it stalls like it was trying to go into gear. It has done this running in park and when the brake is pressed while in drive. It has stalled on me in busy intersections putting me in unsafe situations. Turning the key all the way off and back on will restart it. The second issue is that the transmission randomly gets stuck in 4th gear. It happens most often when a lot of power has been applied from stop. But it also happens randomly. When it occurs, I pull over and stop the engine turning the key all the way off. Usually when I restart it will go back to drive and all the gears in the transmission function normally. The issue is so chronic now with the transmission that it immediately goes into 4th and the vehicle is not drivable. It is at the dealer now. The dealer pulled codes and recommends replacing the transmission solenoid pack. This part is currently on national backorder and there is no eta of when the part will be available to the dealer. Also there is no guarantee that this part will fix the transmission problem. If it doesn't, the vehicle will require a new transmission. They are not even looking at the stalling problem until the transmission problem is resolved. The stalling problem is very serious and I cannot confidently use the vehicle without fearing putting children in an unsafe situation. There should be a safety recall by Chrysler on these vehicles.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the shift solenoid failed twice. The vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic however, the failure recurred within one year. The contact spoke with a dealer and was told that the solenoids should not have failed. The failure mileage was 112,000 and the current mileage was 136,000.

I bought this Jeep on 9/20/2013. The truck is equipped with the 5. 7 l hemi engine. Over the first 50 days and 1,157 miles of ownership I have encountered 18 episodes of the vehicle stalling, with 14 of those stalls occurring on major highways in traffic. The stalls occur with no warning. The vehicle immediately decelerates to a stop and I am left with no power, no steering and no brakes. One dealership blamed it on a bad battery. The dealership which sold me the Jeep diagnosed the problem as a m. A. P. Sensor, which they replaced. That did not correct the problem as the stalling problem continues to occur. The most recent was on 11/9/2013 while driving in the center lane of the PA turnpike at 65 mph. The Jeep stalled and came to a stop, with a semi tractor-trailer behind me. I have no idea how that truck driver was able to swerve in time to miss me. Mechanics and on-line forums identify possible causes for the stalling as 1. A defective (ecm) electronic control modules; 2. Shorts in the wiring harness; 3. Sparks plugs; 4. Egr valve; 5. Ignition coil; 6. Pcv valve; 7. Transmission solenoid pack. There are no diagnostic codes stored in the obd-ii system. One school of thought is that 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee and commanders equipped with the 5. 7 l hemi engine are extremely sensitive to radio frequency interference from the waste spark on the coil. As other complaints have noted, this is an obvious and persistent problem with Jeeps equipped with the hemi engine, and Chrysler has turned a deaf ear to the complaints. Perhaps they are waiting for the fatalities to occur. Why NHTSA hasn't done more to order a recall is beyond my comprehension. The problem has been reported on for years with no action taken by Chrysler. This Jeep is, for lack of a better word, a deathtrap. At best it cannot be trusted, it is unsafe and unreliable. At worst it is an accident waiting to happen!.
In may 2008, 15308 mi on Jeep, slowing for red light, dies, all dash lights com on, no power to steer, no wipers, etc. ; starts back on it's own. Took to dealer, no code, no re-act; has happened intermittent since-safety issue in traffic. Now tranny problem, started sept. 2010, 37,600 mi, code 750, changed solenoid pk in tranny, now code for low pressure send circuit, drives a few miles then goes and stays in 4th gear; 3 months and still not drivable. Need recall for esm and tbs before someone gets killed. Chrysler should stand behind their products & be responsible for design and components. This is very disheartening since both my husband and I own a small biz and are struggling just to keep the doors open and now add the expense of diagnosing Chrysler's problem is just too much! I warranty my work, wear & tear considered, as should Chrysler before someone is hurt or worse- dies trying to get to out of traffic.
The solenoid continues to go out, threatening damage to the transmission. It has went out twice within a year of replacement.

The contact states he owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. The consumer states that there was technical service bulletin 10005603 regarding the visibility:defroster/defogger system:windshield:controls/wiring. The consumer stated that he had the repairs done, but the cost was $1,357. 24. He was still not satisfied with the repair of the vehicle because some of the vents pushed through a lot of air, and some of the vents pushed through a minimum amount of air. The consumer felt that this was a safety defect because it did not allow the defrosting system to work properly on the passenger's side of the vehicle. The consumer was concerned that there was no heat or air conditioning on the passenger's side. The digital control for the passenger's side of the door did not work due to the breaking of the door vents and the duct work for the defrost/defogger, air conditioner, and heating system. The consumer contacted the manufacturer, and they stated they would get back in contact with the consumer after they contacted the dealership. When the manufacturer called back, they stated there was nothing that they would do because the vehicle was over the three year, 36,000 miles warranty. The transmission governor solenoid was replaced. The rotors were replaced because they were warped.
The 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a failure in the transmission with the governor pressure solenoid. The problem is that is part consistently fails even after being replaced. When driving the transmission begins to skip and slows all the way down. It can cause a crash and injure people. I have had this part replaced 3 times within a 1 1/2 year period and the cost is not cheap everytime it cost $656. 00. There needs to be a recall on transmissions for Jeeps from 2000-2002, because I am not the only one being effected by this mishap.
When engaging into drive vehicle jerked violently. Dealer stated transmission governor pressure solenoid failed.
