36 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

A recent recall was done to the 2003 Jeep Liberty in March 2014 and it all went fine. A few days later the air bag light randomly turns on and off. I took it to the dealership and was told the airbag module needs to be replaced and it will run about 570. 00. Now after reading the forums all Chrysler did was add a harness to prevent the airbags from deploying instead of replacing the module. I am also told that in the dallas area there is no module available for replacement. The dealership told me that the light being on would not affect the activation of the airbag in a accident. There was no previous problems before the m35 recall was done.

40 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

For at least 2 years, I have had problems with the air bag light. I have never had an accident. I can be driving and after about 10 minutes, the light will come on and stay on. I have had one recall taken care of and it did not correct the problem. I have a pending recall and according to the dealer, the parts are still not in. I would like to sell my vehicle, but I probably can't with the airbag light on. I only have 84,000 miles.

42 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2013

I was driving 60 mph down sh 75 when the air bag light came on. A few seconds later the air bag deployed. It hit me in the chest and startled me. I had burns on my arms and it ripped a fingernail back. I thought I broke my thumb, the impact was so hard. Thankfully, I was able to keep my Jeep on the road. The driver side air bag is the only one that deployed and now the seat belt does not work properly either.

43 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2013

The air bag sensor went off and the air bag light came on. The light stays on until I turn the car off. When I start the car again, within 5 minutes or less the alarm goes off and the light comes on. I am afraid it will deploy.

While driving for approximately five minutes the air bag light illuminated for the following ten minutes then turned off. When I next drove the car for approximately fifteen minutes the air bag light re-illuminated for approximately five minutes then turned off again. Had the car checked with an onboard diagnostics device, which did not indicate any problem.

47 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2013

I was passenger, my husband james was driving. Airbag light came on and chimed for a couple of seconds, then suddenly the driver's side airbag deployed, bruising james' arm and hurting his neck and shoulder. More than a week later, I still cannot get anyone from Chrysler/Jeep to tell me what is going on. They finally had an inspector look at it today, but he said it could be 10-12 days before I get a response. I keep following up with Chrysler by phone, but they will not tell me anything other than that they are investigating it. They did tell me not to drive the vehicle, leaving us with no vehicle and no rental or any type of resolve has been offered.

48 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2013

Airbag indicator light comes on when vehicle is started, and stays on for approximately 30 mins. The majority of the roads near me are 45mph or above, and with the high rollover rate of SUV's I don't feel remotely safe knowing that at any minute my airbag can go off. I shouldn't have to feel like I'm driving a ticking time bomb of a death box. At this point I feel I don't even want the vehicle anymore and am thinking about trading it off, but I feel like Chrysler should compensate me and other Jeep Liberty owners for having to do so.

49 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2013

The air bag light came on and has continued to go on and off randomly. The Jeep dealership in fort worth that I spoke to this morning said there was no recall. . . . . . . Now I'm confused. . . . . Is there a recall or not???.

50 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

I bought my Jeep off of my grandparents in October. Its a really nice Jeep, only has 69,000 miles. That's good for an 03. Every car has its problems im sure. But mines on recall. I have had the airbag light come on and go off. And I comes on whenever it wants to. And it scares me because if the airbags go off, not only will I be mad, but you can bet, ill prob raise hell. Because I don't fell save driving a car that has the potential to have the airbags go off. Also I have noticed that the power lock on the drivers side works when I wants to. Like I have to hit it a couple times to get it to work. Not such a big deal. Also the cd player doesn't work. Like I've change all the fuses to try and get the door lock/cdplayer to work. And nothing changed. It make a really loud and annoying noise after the cd plays for awhile. That I don't car about. Also one day I got in my Jeep. I don't know how because the door was shut and locked, but on the drivers side, on the inside of the door. Was nothing but ice. The door still opened and closed, no problem but, it looked like somebody took a gallon of water and dumped in down the inside of my door and it froze over. And that's the problems I've noticed with it. The only thing I care about is the whole air bag thing. I have received notice that it will be fixed, but will it be fixed for good. Because I don't feel safe driving around and doing my daily things, knowing that I, or my family, or friends could get hurt from the airbags going off. So I hope that whatever the company is doing to fix it works, because everyday I get in my Jeep, that's the only thing that is going threw my head. Thanks.

51 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Air bag light is on. Safety recall notice m35 issued. Manufacturer/dealer has failed to remedy this defect in a reasonable amount of time. Currently, there is no eta on when parts will be available. This is a serious defect as the air bags deploy while the car is in motion causing the vehicle to crash.

52 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

This is my second complaint regarding the recall on my Jeep Liberty 2003. The airbag light started coming on while I was driving. It would later go off. Sometimes it comes on while driving at a steady speed. Other times it comes on while the vehicle is stopped at a light. Braking does not seem to have an impact on it. I first reported this to the dealer in November 2012. They said not to worry. I received the first recall notice in March 2013 and a second one arrived the first week of October 2013. To date I have made multiple phone calls to the local Jeep dealer service department as well as 3 visits. At one visit they finally actually looked at the car and confirmed it needs to be fixed. Today I spoke with the Chrysler recall group assistance 800 number. First they agreed to help me get the dealer to honor the recall. However, by the end of the call I was told that Chrysler still does not have the part needed to fix my vehicle. I was also told that Chrysler does not see this as a high risk. Now I am certain that there are higher risks out there and I understand that corporations "play the numbers" when they decide what to do. But in the long run, if my air bag deploys unexpectedly while I am driving on the expressway at 75 mph I, my passengers, and surrounding motorists are the ones who will pay the price of this decision. Keep in mind that it has already been confirmed by the local Chrysler service department that my air bag is defective. It could deploy without warning at any time that I am driving. It is not related to braking, speed, distance traveled, or anything that I can pinpoint.

53 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2012

My airbag light came on back in June. After reading about the un-intentional deployments I went to the dealer and ultimately had the passenger airbag replaced (in July). A week later the airbag light came on again (I have picture on phone). I took the vehicle back to the dealership and the dealer (of course light was off by then). Dealer claimed no fault code was on computer and could not find issue (although I did show them iphone pic). Light did stay off in Aug/sept but within the past week the light has begun illuminating, staying on for a while, turning off for a while, and coming back on. The vehicle is garage kept at night but the temp has gotten cooler within the last couple weeks. Not sure what to do except set the seat back a little more and cringe a bit. I wonder how loud an airbag deployment is? vehicle has approx. 31,700 miles.

54 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2012

June 26,2013 I heard a beep from dash thinking it was letting me know I am low on wash fluid though I noticed my air bag light was on . A minute later while driving it went off, as of today it turns on for a min than back off. I received a recall letter about the airbag issues. I called the dealership and asked about it again, I got a response that they are waiting for replacement parts to come in ,this been months ago.

55 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2012

The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that the driver's side air bag deployed erroneously while sitting at a traffic stop. The contact stated that the air bag light was not illuminated prior to the failure. The contact sustained injuries to the face, arms and chest. 56 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2012

This vehicle has had electrical issues since I first bought it used 5 years ago. Last week I was driving my son and two of his friends home from the beach. I was on the interstate when suddenly the air bag light came on, stayed on for a minute or so, went out, then blinked a few times. I got a creepy feeling and decided to do a search. I am glad I did. I can't believe Chrysler has not recalled these Jeeps, I think they are going to be paying a lot more in pi claims than it would cost to do the right thing and fix the problem. I am afraid to use my car!!! I called hall Jeep here in virginia beach and was told to bring it in so they could do an electrical check on the vehicle. [xxx], the girl I spoke with in the service department told me to drive it up there. I told her I was afraid to after reading about the injuries that have been incurred when the driver and sometimes passenger side air bags deploy for no reason. I am 5'2" tall and must sit close to the steering wheel, increasing the chance of injury or even death. She told me that even I said that the risk of it happening was small, when I asked her how I said that her response was "you said there have only been 87 incidents and there are thousands of them on the road" !!!!! I told her it should only take one for them to be alarmed. She then suggested I have it towed - at my expense of course. This is just unsatisfactory and I will never buy another Chrysler product! my husband has been looking at the Dodge ram truck but now I am reading about some life threatening issues with them, too! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

57 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2012

Driving late afternoon approx 35 mph. Running with max ac on, radio on, lights off and vehicle in 4x2 mode. Airbag light illuminated. Stopped at stop sign and light turned off. Illuminated again after continuing to drive. Light stayed on all the way home (approx additional 5 miles). Light did not illuminate this morning. I've just taken to dealership for review after reading the recent issues of airbag deployment after air bag light illumination with no impact (yikes). Vehicle has approx 30,000 miles on it. I will revise or re-input if dealer doesn't find issue or it deploys with no warning.

58 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that upon starting the ignition, the air bag warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The failure recurred continuously. There was a recall related to the defect under NHTSA campaign id number 12v527000 (air bags). The remedy part was unavailable and the vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was unavailable.

59 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2012

I was injured from unexpected airbag deployment Jeep Liberty 2003. Happened to me yesterday, April 16, 2012. Thank god I was driving slowly away from my driveway. I heard a beep, look at the dashboard and saw the airbag light on. My reaction was to put my foot on the break, to lean back and my instinct made me to lift my left arm to cover my face. Boom!!! - loud explosion, pain in my arm and covered with a cloud of powder/dust. It took me a couple of seconds to realize what happened. The drivers airbag exploded without any reason at all. Seatbelt locked. I turned back to see if my 8 year old son was ok. Disoriented, confused, eyes wide open, but ok. Just thinking the tragedy it could have been 1 minute later on the highway, definitely a bad accident and many lives compromised. Added 1 injured per consumer interview. Pco.

60 Air Bag Light On problem

Air bag light come on while driving then goes off then comes on again at random . Sometimes 2 or 3 times a day . . Nothing for about a month then back on all over again then off,,,, while driving on highway. Has begun to do it more often. . . I am afraid the airbag will deploy for no reason while driving and cause me to be involved in an accident.

61 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

Air bag light keeps coming on for no reason. Online forums report it is not uncommon for 2002-2003 Jeep airbags to deploy without warning. Jeep does not offer free repair. I'm filing a complaint because I think this is something Jeep should be responsible for.

62 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

Since the spring of 2012 my air bag light has been coming on at odd times. Sometimes it is during braking and sometimes it is not. I contacted the dealer and they said there was no danger and no recall. Earlier this year I received a recall notice from the Chrysler group. Safety recall m35/NHTSA 12v-527. My first call to the dealer was in February or March and I was told they didn't have the parts and asked me to call back in April. Since then I have taken may car over at least 3 times. The service manager, don taylor, insisted that I had to arrive no later than 7:30 am on a Monday morning. He refused to give me any other appointment time. At the 3rd visit they finally looked at my Jeep and confirmed there is an issue with the air bag. To date they have still not fixed it. Every time I call I get the same answer, "we don't have the part yet. We will call you when we do. " I asked if I should go to another dealer in a different city, but he stated that they don't have the parts either. I have also called the Chrysler group recall assistance center listed in the recall notice only to be on hold for a very long time and then get disconnected without ever speaking to anyone. My air bag light continues to come on at odd times. I am concerned that it will deploy when I am not expecting it. Can you help me get my car fixed? the dealership in question is Dodge city of mckinney texas located at 700 s. Central expressway, mckinney, TX 75070. The service manager is don taylor. He is the only one I have spoken with as the others in the office refer me to him and say he is the only one who can assist me with a recall.

63 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2012

My girlfriend just exited off of jtb in jacksonville beach, FL onto marsh landing parkway and came to a normal stop in traffic (not abrupt or sudden in any way). As sitting, chime went off as if the gas was low. Looked at dash and saw that gas was not empty and that air bag light was on. At that moment, the passenger air bag deployed and immediately after, the driver air bag deployed. She was able to pull into an office complex and stop, very destraught and upset over what had happened. A couple people saw what had happened and stopped. There was also a cop that saw what was going on and pulled over. She suffered minor physical injuries, but her car is sitting at my home undrivable. (this happened about a quarter of a mile from home, so I drove it home). I have filed an investigation with Jeep and am awaiting their call. She did not hit anything-anyone and nothing-no one hit her. She has had a Jeep dealership do any work on it anytime it needs it. All recalls have been followed. She was the only person in the car at the time. Tt.

64 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2011

This vehicle now has 67000 miles on it. The air bag light intermittently came on at 63000 when hitting small pot holes in the road, then it finally came on and stayed on. I took this vehicle to the dealer and they told me that both modules failed that are in the driver and passager seat, and it would cost me $557. 31 to have it fixed. I called chysler about this for some help with the cost to have it repaired, but they said no, I should maybe call you and file a complaint, so I am asking you to intervene with chysler on my behalf. According to the internet at bailey car. Com/recalls, NHTSA said there have been injuries from the unexpected front bag deployments. I was lucky that I had my airbag light problem checked before the airbags unexpectedly deployed. Because there are several consumers like me out there that are unknowingly subject to serious injuries, I feel that you should request that Jeep recall all the 2002 and 2003 Liberty Jeeps for this malfunction.

65 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2011

The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated while traveling 70 mph, the drivers side frontal air bag deployed; although, a crash did not occur. The driver stated the air bag light came on and within two seconds the air bag deployed. The contact confirmed that the vehicle did not hit anything on the road that may have caused the air bag to deploy. The contact was able to avoid a crash; however, the driver's neck was injured when the seat belt suddenly tightened. The contacts insurance company repaired the vehicle, but the manufacturer did not assist because the failure was not a known problem. The failure mileage was 77,000 and the current mileage was 79,000. Updated 07/20/lj.

66 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

Around February 2011, my airbag light started illuminating randomly for no apparent reason. It would come on, I would hear the chime, and then it would turn back off. Eventually it began staying lit longer and longer until finally it stays on all at times. I can't recall if any certain speeds made any difference but it seemed like if I was to hit a bumpy part in the road or similar then I would either see the light come on or if it was already on, it would go off. Now it never turns off. I haven't been to the dealer because I know the run around ill be given just as everyone else I've read about. I have researched how airbag systems operate and have slowly began my own process of determining what is the cause. Only problem, every thing I read states that I should not play around with the airbag system and offers no info related to testing procedures. I work on cars and electronics often, so if I just had the correct information to feel safe, then I would surely try finding the problem myself. With this said, I shouldn't have to do this and I shouldn't have to wonder all the time, when is my airbag going to explode in my face. I'll remove the entire airbag system from the vehicle myself if Chrysler doesn't react quickly. I replaced 2 window regulators. Both in the back doors. Such a common occurrence that they have created a repair kit so you dont have to purchase the window motor again. Still the point is, you see these problems, stand up and do the right thing. We (consumers) are the reason you are able to make vehicles. Also I don't know if this helps but I have replaced 2 batteries since 2008. I was starting to believe the drop in battery voltage may trigger the airbag light but that wasn't it. What is draining these batteries? alternator is charging around 14. 5 volts. I can disc. Battery, reconnect and radio stations are still saved. How?.
