6/9/2018 around 11:30 am engine - starts and stalls without warning. Was driving and slowed down to merge with traffic to enter the highway and engine shut down no warning. It started back up; however, the car behind me almost ran into the back of me - car behind me started blowing the horn continuously; although, flasher was turned on immediately. It occurred 3 more times within an hour - 2 times when attempting to park the vehicle and one time when on the highway and had to slow down as traffic came to a near halt. Very scary situation. About 5-6 months ago this occur about 5-6 times in heavy afternoon traffic due to an accident. Thought it was the gas; now I see it is occurring again. Has to be a bigger or more serious problem. Others are experiencing the same problem just look online. Can not afford to allow car to idle too long. Same vehicle where abs, esp/bas, traction/anti-skid lights remain on even after installing a new clockspring and all four abs sensors. Do not have any pictures to upload.
The car was in motion and came to a sudden stop while reversing in a spot. Car shut off and black smoke care from engine and then caught fire. No warning light or indicators came on during this time. Once I was out of the car it caught fire.

On two different occasions while driving on the highway at 60 mph to 70 mph, the engine of the vehicle shut down completely, without warning, with the loss of all steering or control over the vehicle. On two other occasions, the engine shut down completely, without warning, with the loss of any steering or control over the vehicle, after exiting the highway and entering city traffic. That is a total of four engine shut downs or stalls while driving the vehicle. The dealer can find nothing wrong with the vehicle. We just bought the vehicle, and this is nerve-wrecking and dangerous to say the least. The engine shuts down after driving long distances, and has happened from driving distances of approximately 90 miles to 160 miles. If you wait approximately one hour, the vehicle will then start up again and run. But it will stall again with complete loss of power. Others on the internet have also experience this problem with Jeep 3. 7 and 4. 7 powertech Jeep motors. Our Jeep is a 3. 7 motor. This appears to be the same problem as Jeep experienced with Jeep commander and Jeep grand cherokee models, which were recalled. This situation can obviously be life threatening. Chrysler Jeep should not be allowed to put life treating vehicles on the market and these Jeeps must be recalled. We ask for your help in this matter before someone is seriously injured.
Vehicle shuts off while driving without notice and will not start right away leave set for a 1/2 hour or so and it starts back up but horn blows wippers come on and doors will not unlock automaticly this could be a real problem if in an acident due to shutting off on the freeway and I can not exit the vehicle. I was told that the problem is in the (tipm) and that there have been many problems with this but there is no recall. This in my oppinion is a huge safety concern.

While driving 55 mph down a busy road, my Liberty's engine shut down without warning. No warning lights lit up on the dash, oil was full, and it was running great just before the failure. Upon inspection at a Chrysler dealer it was determined that the #5 valve failed causing the engine to seize immediately. Cost to replace the engine was $6971. 00. Chrysler nor mopar will admit that there is a problem with these engines, yet there was nothing I could have done to prevent the engine from seizing at 81,152 miles. Luckily I was able to get it off the road and stopped before I was hit by another vehicle. Liberty was 1, 152 miles over the power train warranty.

Engine shut off while driving. We flipped and wrecked. We just got major engine work done, before the accident, due to the engine shutting off twice before.

On three separate occasions vehicle stalls upon engaging drive or reverse from park or neutral. The shift is made, the vehicle begins to move, then suddenly it stalls, the engine shuts off. Park or neutral must be quickly reselected to restart vehicle. Danger of being in an intersection when this happens it high. Dealer says it is a known issue, with no solution.
Details: driving home on a very cold night; had car running about 15 min before getting on the roadway. While driving at 40 mph, my engine died. No warning light of any kind came on. Total lock up of gas/break and engine shut off. Coasted to shoulder. Jeep would not restart. Called a towing company and had it towed home, and then to Jeep dealership next day. They requested oil change receipts which I am tracking down from various oil change locations and gave me no answer to what the actual problem was when I periodically called to check in. Do I have any rights here? 7/70,000 full warranty and all they are telling me is I need receipts. I am afraid they will deny claim anyway, as several other postings indicate engine issues and denial. Quote to fix out of pocket is $9,700 which is high and ridiculous considering no one will tell me the actual problem with the car. An entire engine long block block is $2,600 retail. No reply to questions on rebuild. Furthermore they want to charge me a daily storage fee because the car has been there 3 days (one day since they got back to me!!!) I feel this might be a ploy to get me to ditch fixing and force me to buy a new Jeep. I can't get any answers!!!.
