When I went in for a recall on 08/03/2018 for my vehicles lower control arms I was informed that my upper and lower passenger ball joints were very loose and corroded. My lower ball joints have apparently been replaced before in a recall in 2006. When I left the dealership my vehicle seemed fine until I took a right turn and heard loose parts bumping around on the right hand side. I have gotten another mechanics opinion on this and the upper and lower ball joints are loose/ broken even after this recall was performed to my vehicle.

Two days later I was pulling away from a mailbox and the right lower ball joint snapped in half. Both times I was in motion. Luckily, I was going slow and they were on back roads. I had a mechanic check all joints prior to them breaking and he said everything looked fine. My husband and father even checked after him. I checked my VIN number and it was not listed.

Noticed that the front end of the vehicle felt loose. There had been a loud metal scraping noise while driving on a straight highway at about 65 mph about a month earlier, had the vehicle checked but nothing was found. Took the vehicle in for new front tires and an alignment and was notified that the lower ball joint has a lot of play and needed to be replaced. I know there was a recall on the ball joints but when I contacted Chrysler I was told there isn't a recall on my vehicle. The recall l27 includes my state that the vehicle is registered in but it was bought in virginia, which is not included in the recall. The vehicle has 120,000 miles on it.

Drive at 65 miles per hour on the freeway in California, a loud noise like something had fallen out of the bottom of the car. Car became barely controllable. Was able to veer to the side of the road with smoke spewing from the passenger front wheel. When tow truck arrived stated that the lower ball joint and control arm were terribly corroded and had snapped. A mechanic looking for parts mentioned that it had been previously recalled. A check of the VIN indicated the problem had been noted for recall in 2006, this particular VIN had been repaired in 2012. Called Chrysler, they said they could simply arrange for an appointment but that it would be up to the dealer to decide whether or not I would be charged for repairs. At this time trying to decide on next step.

Well it's already corroded and no wheel alignment can be done without replacing both joints. Already called the dealer and they denied any recall on ball joints. I decided to stop driving the car because it's getting hard to drive. When I turn the steering wheel you can feel the joint making a metal to metal sound, while stopping and when starting to move.

My Liberty's VIN is not in the recall range. Jeep refuses to talk to me. Their explanation about water ant corrosion is not technically valid. I am an aerospace engineer and deal with this sort of thing all the time. The cause is cyclic loading of the tapered pin, high tension load and a stress riser at the thread. Replacing the ball joint only provides more failure opportunities. I would like to know the number of deaths and injuries this has caused.

Recall regarding front lower ball joint; 06v288000. While at firestone during a routine oil change and check up, I received notice of a recall on my car - I was I went to the nearby Jeep dealership and they told me it was not applicable for my car even though I showed them the paperwork from firestone directly. Jeep did not fix my lower ball joint and then approximately two weeks later, I was driving to school and my car jolted as if I hit a pot-hole but the road was clear. I turned on my hazard lights and pulled over to inspect. My tires were not low on air there was nothing abnormal under the hood. I parked my car and looked underneath to find a very obvious dislocation. I called a friend who could identify what part it was exactly and he said it was my lower ball joint. My car was a safety hazard and has become a huge hassle to deal with and Jeep is refusing to take responsibility. It is being repaired in a shop now and I am seeking reimbursement from Jeep.
