1 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2010 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 12/19/2018

Daughter pulled out of driveway turned left onto street and immediately heard a loud noise and observed the entire dashboard instrumentation panel light up. Wipers came on, doors locked, engine cut off, alarm went off, wiper fluid started spraying and smoke started pouring from under the hood. Fortunately she was able to unlock the doors and get out of the vehicle. Electrical wiring was still smoking 45 minutes after the power finally drained from the battery. Tow truck refused to move the vehicle until a mechanic came to disconnect the battery. Local shop said all the electrical circuitry was burned up or compromised, including the wiring harnesses, ground wires, fused box, tipm, etc. Took vehicle to dealership where it was pronounced unfixable. Insurance company will not cover since fire damage was confined to electrical circuits and Jeep Chrysler sent an investigator to inspect the damage and compensation was denied.

5 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2007 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/27/2015

Auto made loud noises and stopped running. Would not start. Had towed to Jeep dealer who had it for 3 months and they made sure that the timing was fine. Replaced cam and crank sensor. Still wouldn't start. They finally called us to have the vehicle towed back to our home because the manufacturer told them it was probably the tipm and wiring harness. They told us the cost for the part and to install it (with no guarantee it would fix the car) was $2,300 which we don't have so we have a vehicle that we can't even start.

6 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2009 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 03/15/2014

Engine suddenly started running extremely rough, and making loud noises. Immediately pulled over and turned engine off. Waited a few minutes and attempted to restart engine, but again it made loud noise and wouldn't turn over. Had it towed to our mechanic. He told us rocker arm jammed, lifter and camshaft toasted, and head blew, and more than one cylinder is involved. He also told us this is the third Liberty engine he's had to replace for customers in the past few years - and that's in a community of less than 250,000 people. When I googled the issue I found many Liberty engine failures reported on several blogs - edmunds, cartalk, allpar, topix, ask, etc. , but not on the NHTSA site. Don't know why people don't lodge complaints here first! regardless, we're now looking at ~$4000 repair/replacement on a well-maintained vehicle with less than 55k miles on it. We went to our local Jeep dealer, who told us the Jeep lifetime power train warranty doesn't cover the damage as we're the second owner. This is ridiculous. There is obviously a design flaw in the 3. 7l engines that causes them to blow, and Chrysler/Jeep must be aware of it, and should replace the failed engines. If the engine had blown at freeway speeds it could have easily caused a dangerous safety issue resulting in a crash. Nhtsa needs to investigate these engine failures!.

7 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2011 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 02/10/2014

Drove all over town and to and from work without incident or indication that something is wrong. I parked the Liberty for about 15 minutes before restating. I turned the key and the engine turned over but was loud noise and was shaking as if was struggling for fuel ( 1/2 tank by the way). Tried starting her up and just kept shutting off. Had her towed to authorized Jeep dealer service shop. Can't seem to diagnose the problem they say it might be a misfire in cylinder # or a broken valve. Jeeps been into shop numerous times to fix tpms they've change the controls but still vic says check tpms.
