4 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 10/19/2016

Amongst other issues: vehicle fails to start occasionally, from both cold and warm states. From completely off, turning the key begins ignition but often does not start the vehicle. Engine sputters but does not complete the start. On some occasions, depressing the gas pedal while trying to start the vehicle works, leading me to believe this is one of the widely reported tipm issues plaguing Jeeps from 2007-2014. I conclude the fuel pump fails to receive a signal to start from the tipm which causes the ignition failure. In addition, I have had multiple electrical issues including doors locking and unlocking when the opposite corresponding buttons are pressed, windshield wipers turning on when the turn signal is used, warning lights on the dashboard reporting non-issues, failure of power steering, and failure to accelerate when the gas pedal is depressed. Please address this issue as soon as possible.

5 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 05/28/2015

I've noticed that my vehicle was having an issuing accelerating lately. I went for my routine oil change and was told the fuel pump needs to be replace and it would be the reason for the issue with accelerating. The mechanic stated that it is really common with the Jeeps and unfortunately the part is not expensive but the labor is because they need to remove the engine to replace it. If it is as common as a problem as the mechanic states, why is there no recall? I see there is a recall on Jeep liberties for a similar issue for 2002-2007. Could there still possibly be this issue in the 2009 models as well?.

The failure mileage was 84,656.

7 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/22/2014

Typically, when refueling, upon reaching the full level with the fuel pump nozzle in the auto shutoff position the pump nozzle will shut off but gasoline will continue to flow and spew out of the fill tube, down the side of the car, onto the ground and onto me. I've learned to manually stop adding fuel prior to the full level to avoid the risks this situation presents. On 11/22/2014 with the fuel tank nearly empty I attempted to refuel with fuel nozzle in auto position for the initial fill period. After adding approximately 2 gallons gasoline began spewing out. To stop the flow I had to grab the nozzle and disengage the lever manually and in the process soaked my hand, arm and lower leg with gasoline. I attempted to begin refueling again with an identical out come. I moved to a different pump station and twice attempted to fill by manually operating the nozzle lever. Gasoline poured and spewed out both times. After having added just 5 gallons total I stopped attempting to add fuel. I am now in the process of finding service/repair before driving the vehicle again as I don't believe it is safe to add fuel in current condition.

8 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 05/10/2014

I have had to replace the fuel pump twice. The first time was in 2006 at around 27,000 miles. I was on the highway doing 55 when it went out may 10, 2014. I had about 101,900 miles this time. I also have problems with the fuel spilling out of the tank when fueling up. I never reported this because I didn't realize this was a common Jeep problem.

14 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

For the last 2 years the gas tank belches fuel every time if the tank is filled up. I never top off the tank but by the time the automatic release on the fuel pump shuts off about 1/2 second later several ounces of fuel pour out of the gas tank and down the side of the Jeep and onto the ground. It seems like a major safety issue and there are hundreds of complaints online. Is there a recall or investigation for this problem?.

15 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty limited with approximately 88,000 miles on it. Recently I started to experience a problem where the fuel pump nozzle does not shut itself off automatically when my fuel tank is full. The first time it happened I thought this was an issue with the fuel pump at the station, but it has happened at multiple stations and every time I pump fuel. I've just been trying to pay close attention and stop the fuel flow before my tank gets full. This overflowing fuel is going to damage the paint on my vehicle and is a fire hazard at the gas station, not to mention the fact that the fuel has spewed onto my shoes and clothing on more than one occasion. The problem seems to be progressing now, as yesterday when I went to get fuel, the nozzle spewed immediately upon beginning to pump (and the tank was nearly empty as my fuel level indicator had just gone off). The only way I could get fuel into my tank was to manually control the flow with the nozzle so that it went into the tank very slowly. I have contacted my Jeep dealership and have a service appointment later this week. I've read about a lot of others with this issue, and it sounds like they will need to replace my fuel tank.

16 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/03/2010

Every time I fuel up, the fuel pump does not stop and overflows. I have to guess when it's full and stop the fuel pump manually.

17 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/29/2009

I have had numerous issues with this vehicle. I have had to replace the cooling fan, three window motors, the alternator, head gaskets, the fuel pump sensor is broken, the oil sensor is broken, when I pump gas it spills out, the radiator, the electrical system on both the left and right side. The tail lights don't work properly and I have replaced both the lights and fuses as well as the sockets numerous times. These are just the things I can think of off the top of my head. I've spent thousands of dollars, literally, on this car. I feel like it's a death trap waiting to happen and can't wait until I am able to purchase something else, it won't be a Jeep product. Jeep doesn't care if you have numerous issues with their product. When I first started having issues I called the dealership I purchased from to talk to my salesman and I was asked what my mileage was. I was right around 48,000 miles, I was put off numerous times and told he would be who I would need to deal with. After I hit the 50,000 mark they informed me he had been murdered and I was not out of warranty. Each passing day seems to bring new problems with this vehicle. I just thought someone should finally know. I'm also not counting the recalls in on my list of issues.

18 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

Whenever I fill up the gas tank with gas the filler tube over flows with gas and does not allow the fuel pump to cut off automatically. This has happened since the vehicle was new. Gas gushes out of the filler tube and down the side of the vehicle and creates a large pool of gasoline on the ground. This action can be easily repeated. One must stop the fuel pump before the tank is full and not allow the pump to cut off automatically.

19 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2001 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 06/21/2005

I have a 2001 Jeep cherokee sport. The check engine light went on. I was told I would need a new fuel pump and tank. My mechanic went to the wrecking yard and found a good tank, the pump however, had it's filter pieces missing. They were in the bottom of the tank. When the mechanics took out my damaged tank, the same was true with my fuel filter. It is under my impression that this 2 for 2 discovery may mean there is a close to 100% problem with the fuel pumps.
