Other Fuel System Tank Assembly Problems of Jeep Liberty - part 1

On sept. 2, 2019 while driving on route 23 our 2004 Jeep Liberty's gas tank broke off and we dragged it down the road with gas pouring out, another driver alerted us that the gas tank was dragging. If a spark happened we would have been set on fire. The police and fire department were called and our car was towed to a repair shop. I saw a recall #18v278000 online today 09/05/19, we were never notified of this recall.

Fuel overflows & doesn't shut off when full! every time we put fuel into the car, it will not allow the pump to shut off when the tank becomes full-no matter how slow one fills the tank, it creates a fuel burp and pours gasoline out & down the vehicle. All of us, including our young driver, need to be extremely cautious when at a gas station. Very very unsafe could be very dangerous!.

I see there are two recalls in my vehicle - one for the air bags and second for the fuel tank having possible leakage. I live on an island and the closest dealer/repair shop that could do work is in another town that would take a week long trip to get there by boat, etc. Any suggestions.

I have my brother's 2005 Jeep Liberty with less than 100,000 miles. It is a very important vehicle to me as he passed from cancer. To date I have filled the car 3x and every time I get a gas gusher coming out of the tank. The last time I was extra careful and still ended up getting gas all over the car and myself. Now I try to estimate gallons so it doesn't spray out and I stand off to the side. 600. 00 is a lot of money to spend for a new fuel neck replacement. Obviously not everyone is reporting this as they are trying to fix it themselves. Try googling this on the internet. This is not a safe situation, although gas on the outside dissipates quite quickly. One spark and the gas station could be toast. I am very leery of Chrysler & Dodge gas tanks, thankfully my magnum which started acting up had a lifetime warranty on the fuel tank, which Dodge is not very quick to point out. My magnum just started dying after it was filled up, fixed now I hope. Hoping you can come up with a re-call for these Jeeps. Very disappointed in the fueling up issues.

Every time we refill the gas it come out like the car is burping. . Making imposible to no drop gas it going down over the mufle. . Happened parking enging offin any gas station my mechanic told me is a small valve e in the neck of the tank but the tank is plastic so ill have to replace the tank. . Whole set something about a valve.

Fuel spit back after putting gas in fuel tank. It doesn't matter has fast or slow gas is pump, gas spills out after refueling vehicle. Large quantities of gas spray out of filler neck on person, vehicle and ground.

My car is always overflowing gas when I complete the fuel tank.

The rear suspension lower control arms may corrode and could break without warning. Safety risk: a broken rear suspension lower control arm could cause a loss of vehicle control and cause a crash. Remedy: the right and left side rear suspension lower control arms must be replaced the fuel tank on your vehicle has a small chance of experiencing a fuel leak during certain types of rear end collisions. Safety risk: fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in an underbody fire.

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated he was trying to fill the gas tank and the gas was leaking out underneath the vehicle. No warning lights illuminated before the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independant mechanic for a diagnosis and the contact was advised that no problem could be found. The contact found a faulty check valve and paid for the repairs. The contact called Jeep and was advised that the recall did not include his vehicle only the 2007-2008 models. The contact then took the vehicle back to the mechanic again for the same problem a week later and was advised the vehicle needed a new gas tank. A VIN search was done on the vehicle and no recalls were found at this time. Vehicle failure mileage was 156,000. Cb.

Fuel spills from tank during fill up. I bought this car used and the paint is damaged from the previous spills that have occurred. It is evident this has been a long standing issue with this vehicle.

The vehicle was taken to findlay Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram post falls dealer, (550 n alberta st, post falls, id 83854, (208) 457-1900) where a diagnostic testing was completed that the fuel tank and fuel filler neck needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Aw.

When fueling, the gas tank sensor fails and causes the gas pump to not automatically stop and gas overflows. Luckily I was not standing too close when this happened. Also,upon stopping and ignition is off the seatbelt on the drivers side does not retract after unlatching and when getting out of the car the seatbelt gets stuck in the door.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 65,000.

My car caught on fire last night, fire department was unable to confirm source of fire. I researched Jeep Liberty 2004 recalls and found on June 12,2012 the office of defects investigation (odi) of the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) opened (ea) 12-005 to investigate an alleged safety related defects concerning fuel tank system integrity for Jeep my 1993-2007 for , which included numerous fire. On 1/16/2017 my Jeep Liberty caught on fire, in the snow. Car was stationary, had only driven 2 blocks, got stuck in the snow, revved up the engine and smoke began coming out the hood. Car completely combusted in flames,.

When they give me back my vehicle I had a lot of electrical issues like windows doesn't work and vehicle stopped on the road. This is very dangerous and they don't care. Vehicle is stationery because I'm afraid to fire like more than 50 people in my Jeep Liberty.

The fuel tank support rusts out from the inside to a point that it seems very unlikely it would be structurally sound in the event of an accident. It is very concerning that this would not puncture the tank and be a cause of fire instead of protecting the tank as it is marketed to do. There has been no incident yet, but after an accident would not be the time to find out. Chrysler has reviewed this and will not take action.

I bought the car used after I've been hit in the back from somebody and I no longer had my Subaru or the money to buy another Subaru so I was stuck buying this car in the meantime and the windows work but only for a little bit 6 hours after I bought the car the engine light turned on course it didn't have any transmission fluid so I put some in but one window dropped had to pull it out and now the driver door does completely will not roll up or rolled down and then I see that they have done some work to it because I didn't notice when I bought it that the door has power they have opened it another issue is that I washed my car when I call the person that bought it it was a little small dealership I stated that I washed the car he stated to me to me "you washed the car?" I said yes I didn't ask any questions however the next day the front left headlight went out and it cost me $15 so not sure what else I can do it appears that there was a recall there is a recall on the fuel tanker what not they can catch fire I would like the recall to be repaired also I should have noticed that the car occasionally randomly feel like it's fishtailing while I'm driving I was struck by a vehicle on the freeway while I was walking after my Jeep grand cherokee that I had prior to my Subaru completely died on the middle of the freeway I began to walk to the call box when I was struck by a car so I have to have a safe car I am a single mother and grandmother thank you for your attention in this matter.

The dealer (sam leman � 1801 w pioneer pkwy, peoria, IL 61615) diagnosed the vehicle and stated that fuel spits back when filled, the recommended fix is that the fuel tank assembly be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and informed that they do not have a recall for the VIN number and they could not do anything. The failure mileage was 171,556. Jc.

My gas overflow every time I fill up my tank. This has been happening for a few years and I contacted Jeep and was told they would not do anything. This is a safety hazard and could cause a fire and something should be done I have spoken to several Jeep owners with this model and they are having the same problem.

It will burp gas back of the filler nozzle. Tried different gas stations. Tried different types of pumps. On automatic fill-up it will cut off, then a big burp of gas spews out of the filler nozzle. Happens mostly in the cool weather, randomly in high temps (80f+). Dealer inspected said they could find no problem. . . Told me the only option would be a fuel tank replacement for around 1500 dollars. It is the same symptom the recall/warranty extension for 2008 Jeep Liberty's covered in the x46 lifetime warranty extension; however, this does not cover any other model years and this is happening in other model years. I was approaching the onramp,& as I turned on I heard a noise. Thinking I had a flat I immediately pulled off to check my tires upon rounding the rear of my vehicle I saw liquid on the ground upon backing up a step I could see it was my gas tank with the broken brackets. I thank god there were no sparks & that I was not yet @ speed on the interstate. I was terrified as to how close to death I possibly was. Then I find out here that it had happened 1 other time (that's reported here) but not to the manufacturer. Now I'm out of my vehicle while being repaired and out of work till it's fixed. This should never have to come out of my pocket but will because of negligence. I only wish I had though to take pictures before it was loaded & towed to the garage.

I own a 2008 Jeep Liberty and every time I fill it the fuel comes ba k at me not just a little either it geisers out of the tank and have gotten to the point where I have to stand up wind not to be showered it has been doing this since I bought it.

Several years ago there was a recall on my fuel tank for gas over spilling while fueling the car. That was replaced but now I can't fill my tank completely because when I do the inside of my car smells of gas fumes from the tank up to the front seat. There is also an issue with the car staling at a stop or the ignition having trouble catching when I crank the car.

I have owned my 2006 Jeep Liberty for 6 years, and not one time have I completely filled my fuel tank that it didn't gush fuel out everywhere, including on me !.

Every time I fill the gas tank (parked with engine turned off), gas spews from the filler tube, runs down the side of the car, pools on the ground and underneath the car, creating an extremely dangerous situation. Gas continues to spew out and all over the area until I desperately grab the gas pump nozzle handle and manually disengage it! I now never can depend upon auto shut-off!! I have to manually operate the pump nozzle, not take my hand off it, listen to the gushing tone sound as the tank nears the full point and shut off the nozzle by hand when I hear the gas getting ready to spew all over the place!! this is so dangerous!!!!! over the course of several years, I thought this problem was just unique to my car but after talking with two other Jeep Liberty owner acquaintances, I discovered they had the same dangerous safety problem with their Jeep Liberty, as well. Every time the gas tank is filled, gasoline overflows before the automatic fueling nozzle shutoff activates. Fuel runs down the side of the vehicle and onto the ground.

Every time I am refueling my Jeep Liberty the stop flow for the gas tank does not engage and causes fuel to leak to overflow onto my vehicle, the ground and on me. It creates a large puddle of gasoline and is very dangerous.
