2 Water Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/15/2019

Vehicle is attractive and functional. Air bags probably saved the wife's life in a t bone accident. The air conditioner and heater work great. There is too much plastic. . . Everywhere! seats are uncomfortable on long trips. Water pump locked up with just over 50k miles. Transmission is self destructing at 62k miles this month. It seems the transmission has no dip stick for the owner to check the fluid. If it did the transmission problem could have been noticed sooner. Now we must pay for a transmission and labor because it is out of warranty, $4k! the vehicle gets regular use in county, city and highway trips. On nice paved texas roads. It is well maintained and only driven by two adults, age 72. I believe there is a quality issue with the drivetrain parts. We have owned other Jeeps. They had the old reliable inline 6cyl engine and three speed transmission. Very reliable.

3 Water Pump problem of the 2010 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

The airbag light keeps turning on and off while driving the vehicle. I heard Jeeps have many problems with the airbags. I have also replace 5 water pumps on this vehicle paying for 2 of them the others were done under the TSB from Chrysler. I also have a problem with the heat coming out of the vents on the drivers side of the vehicle. I have heard of many Jeeps with the same problem this started about 3 years ago.

4 Water Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 12/22/2016

I have had many problems with this vehicle. Apx 50k miles the water pump blew. Had it replaced - then apx 75k miles I experienced jump starts - took it to the dealer who was only doing oil changes that day. Took it to aaa repair center - they did a pressure test - found nothing wrong. Experienced the jump again - took it to a firestone mechanic who did a pressure test and "found nothing wrong". The Jeep would not start on thanksgiving - had it towed to the aaa center where I explained what had happed. They discovered that the head had blown and was now warped & camshaft broken at considerable cost, they fixed it, but now I have a p0340 code (camshaft sensor). I let the vehicle sit overnight. It seemed to start fine. After 40 miles of highway driving the oil light came on briefly, before shutting off.

Coolant leak- took to carmax service in hillside,IL for diagnosis informed that the coolant was leaking from water pump. Service consultant informed me that he spoke to a guy from jack phelan dealership in countryside, IL and was informed that by searching my VIN number in there database that there is a recall on the water pump for my 2010 Jeep Liberty. States that coolant leaks from weep hole in water pump, was then informed that I can bring my vehicle in to be service at no charge because of this recall. Could not find any info online or NHTSA website so that's why I am filing a complaint so a recall can be administered to inform other Jeep Liberty owners of this issue.

10 Water Pump problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 04/27/2013

My car experienced a sporadic rough idle over a 2 week period. One day the check engine light when on after starting the car. After reading the codes cylinder 2 was determined to be the issue. A shop replaced the ignition coil and all seemed well. The next day after driving the car all day with no issue, I restarted the Jeep after a 10 minute break and it would not start. When it finally started it sounded like half the cylinders were not firing and had a slapping sound. Towed it to dealership and was told cylinder 2 had no compression and it needed a new cylinder head. Both sides would cost $3,500. Parts were ordered and 10 days later they called me and said there were other problems and the cylinder head was not the issue. Piston seemed bent and it needed a long engine block and a water pump. This would cost $7,000. Not worth the fix. It seems cylinder 2 is an issue in many Libertys of this year.

11 Water Pump problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 12/04/2012

My 2002 Jeep Liberty was bought brand new from the dealer. About two months ago I was driving on the highway when all of a sudden the dashboard turned off and then turned back on, then my car started shaking like it was about to stall, and the engine light started to blink. I got scared because I didn't want my engine to stall and break down in the middle of the highway since it can be very dangerous, so I got off the highway and parked it in a lot over night so that I could take it straight to the dealer the next day. I took it to the dealer very carefully, my car started over heating when it was sitting in place/ traffic for more than one minute, and then it would cool back down when it was moving. Finally at the dealer they changed the water pump, thermostat, and one of the coils. The dealership said the problem was fixed and sent me off. Within that week my car started acting up again, the engine light began to flash again and I noticed my car was still being jumpy. I took it back and it turns out it had blown head gaskets, not only that but the heads were not even repairable. I need a complete new engine. I looked online and have found that it is very common for Jeep Liberty's to have a major engine problem. There is obviously something wrong with the way Jeep builds their engines. There needs to be a recall, it is a defect in the Liberty's. There have been multiple complaints of Jeep engines breaking down with no signs. Also as a side note, the seat belt on the drivers side doesn't really click and sometimes un buckles on its own. There is also an electrical problem, the inside lights turn off and on all the time by themselves.

12 Water Pump problem of the 2008 Jeep Liberty

The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was repaired three additional times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,976.

13 Water Pump problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 12/30/2009

My 2005 Jeep Liberty has had numerous engine problems since I purchased it. Three times when the check engine light was on and I was under warranty, the mechanic at the Jeep dealership turned the light off and said that was "just something Jeep's do. " now that my warranty has expired, I need an entire new engine. The mechanic saying that oil is not flowing through the lines in the engine. I recently replaced the water pump and the mechanic mentioned it was much too soon for that. Without looking at service records or speaking with the dealership where I bought the car or had the car serviced under warranty, they rejected my appeal for assistance for parts and/or labor with the repair. I guess that is the "new" Chrysler. I have now transportation. Commute f hours per day on public transportation in la and am paying $45. 00 per day storage fee at the garage until I can afford the repairs.
