1 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2015 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 05/17/2025

Complaint summary: I brought my 2015 Jeep Renegade trailhawk (VIN: [xxx] ) to autonation cdjr roseville on may 17, 2025, for the u90 emissions recall. The catalytic converter was replaced, and the pcm software was updated. However, the u0402 diagnostic trouble code (implausible data received from tcm) remains stored. This code has been persistent and prevents the vehicle from passing California emissions, which is required for my registration as the car was transferred from out-of-state. The service advisor initially stated that the tcm was updated, but later corrected himself and admitted the tcm already had the latest version and was not reprogrammed. I have not been given written confirmation that the tcm software or wiring was verified or addressed. I am concerned the dealership is refusing to properly resolve this under recall and is instead recommending a full transmission replacement without supporting mechanical codes or verifying the emissions system software/communication is compliant. I’m requesting fca’s assistance, and the bar in California to enforce the complete and proper execution of the u90 recall and resolution of the u0402 code under recall scope. Please help ensure the vehicle is brought into emissions compliance. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

7 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2017 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 07/01/2017

I purchased this car after owning two wrangler's, a cherokee and a patriot. I noticed right away that my transmission would lunge forward when coming to a stop and the transmission would shift harshly when slowing down in traffic then applying the gas to go, the car also hesitates to take off. I have had many scary situations where I was almost rear-ended many times because of the delay, I also came to a stop at a crosswalk and right when I went to stop the car lunged forward and I hit someone walking in the crosswalk, I was lucky the guy was not hurt, I also had a time where there was a couch in front of me on the freeway and I was not able to avoid it because of a hesitation in the engine where at times I am unable to accelerate right away and this could cause me to get hit if I switch lanes to quickly, I ended up slamming on the breaks and sliding into the counch and contacting 911 to explain what happened. This transmission is defective and all the shops do is reset the transmission and do a software update to the transmission and the tcm and the pcm on the car. The cars door locks will also sometimes beep loud and sometimes beep short like something is wrong and a good portion of the time the car will not lock. I also have a weird vibration coming from the right side of the car and the dealer said that they tested it against a cherokee and it's the same but I have a Renegade so I have in writing they tested the wrong model car. This car has had so many issues and I really feel unsafe, I have already taken the car in 5 times and they don't really do anything. I will be taking it in to get my ac knob replaced because it has a sharp edge and I keep getting cut. I don't think being told the harsh shifting is normal is right, I feel like I am driving a manual transmission because of the weird shifts this transmission does.

8 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2016 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 09/14/2016

Vehicle loses power during turning operations. When making a left or a right turn on dry pavement, the traction control light illuminates and the vehicle loses power. When I initially took the vehicle into the dealer the issue was only occurring during left turns. Dealer did a pcm software update and now the problem occurs during right and left turns. I have come disturbing close to being hit while losing power mid turn. I and others are having the same issue. This needs to be addressed before someone gets seriously injured or killed. Car was brand new when problem started.
