Jeep Renegade owners have reported 6 problems related to transmission not engage (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
On the manual transmission, the clutch seems to not reengage completely (as if you were riding the clutch) causing it to get hot and have a lack of power and a nauseating odor. The problem began abruptly and causes a significant loss of power/acceleration that is extremely hazardous on the roadway.

On the highway when transmission wouldn't engage and the Jeep started shaking. Came to a stop, shifted to manual and it needed high rpm's to get it moving. It finally got moving and had to use manual get it off the highway. Was at the dealer a few months earlier dealing with the transmission not engaging. Dealer said it was a software issue. Dealer now says it's not transmission but engine problems. Thankful to be alive.

I found a serious safety concern with Jeep Renegades like mine. Like many owners, I bought a Jeep to be safe in the snow. I no longer feel safe. I had a minor smog fault (evap) and while driving, the check engine light came on. As soon as the light is on, the four wheel drive will not engage. This left me stranded on a snowy day with no four wheel drive for an irrelevant problem. This is the case for all Jeep Renegades and possibly other fiat made models. It is not satisfactory. This behavior of four wheel drive being cut out is, I found, well documented on various internet user groups. I would prefer if they reprogram my vehicle so the four wheel drive stays available no matter what.

Upon making a right turn from a stop, the car stalls out. Engine is still on, but no engagement.
The vehicle with only 340 miles electrical system went completely haywire with all the warning lights and displays going off and the transmission disengaging, right in the middle of a busy intersection. Very dangerous. Had to turn off, move gear shift back and forth, then start car and get transmission to move off the road. Warning lights take turns going off and usually following the airbag warning the transmission disengages. Dangerous!.
