Jeep Renegade owners have reported 9 problems related to noises during shifting (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I bought this car new, this car is currently at 33596miles. Recently had noticed some really hard jerky shifting, so hard it feels like someone had bump into the rear of my car. When I start up the car cold, shift from park to reverse I can hear this harsh grinding, whining noise.

Hood opens without me opening it. It happened 3 times so far. One time it happened on the parkway but it has the safety so it doesn't swing up. The shifting shifted so hard it made a clucken noise I thought the transmission went. That happened twice. The car only has 20,000 miles and the trans sounds like it's starting to go. I was driving both times.

The vehicle would go into neutral while driving on the highway and also would make a loud noise when going into reverse. When the vehicle would go into neutral while driving, I would put the shifter back in drive and it would make a loud banging noise of some sort. I definitely don't feel safe in this vehicle whatsoever.

I decided to start the vehicle without using remote start due to extreme cold climate so I could warm it longer than remote start will allow. Let it run for about 45 minutes and go to drive off and get up to 25-30mph and it stalled and made an extremely loud noise and rough vibration that made it feel like the whole engine or transmission fell out of the vehicle. All of the lights lit up in the dashboard and I had to struggle to steer it off the street by coasting it. Proceeded to start it but wouldn't budge for a good 5-10 min until it finally started back up. Immediately took it to the dealership and they connected the diagnostic tool to it and said nothing was showing up and there was nothing they could do about it. About a month later, it happened again the exact same way, took it to the dealership and this time they said every possible error code came up and were baffled. They wanted us to leave there at the dealership for 2 weeks before they could get to it and did not offer a loaner vehicle, we had to tell them that we needed it or a loaner for commute and so we had to keep it, they finally got to it and found out it was the ecm module, something to do with the drivetrain, they replaced it and it hasn't occurred again. Since then, we have noticed more and more that the transmission has been shifting very hard making popping noises and jerking. We finally decided that something wasnt right and took it to a different dealership with a couple other things that have gone wrong with the car. We had to take it twice for them to figure out what we were talking about with the transmission. It is now scheduled for a total transmission replacement mid August, and I think it was caused by ecm module issue we had to deal with for a few months before it was taken care of. I am extremely disappointed in making a new car purchase because of all the issues we have had with it.
The 9-speed transmission causes the vehicle to lunge forward causing the vehicle to be unsafe. I would have rear end a Dodge ram truck at a stop light; if my foot was not firmly on the brake. The lunging forward, and hard shifting happens randomly primarily on the downshifting, and when it's cold out. Other issues: when using the washer solvent fluid the vapors come back through the cabin, making the cabin air toxic to breath. The front driver side rotor and brake pad had to be changed; because they were deemed defective due to finding metal debris in the brake pad at about 3,100 miles when I reported the noise at the first oil change. Electrical: randomly the push start will not work, turn signal turning right will not work, and head lights would not automatically come on. This 2017 Jeep Renegade latitude 2. 4l has less than 6,000 miles. The transmission, washer solvent, and brakes started before the first oil change at 3,118 miles; however, the washer solvent was not report until later when I found out it is toxic, and I only used it about 3-times, and turned the air off each time. All deemed unable to duplicate except for one time or normal for the washer solvent issue.
Transmission shifting hard makes noise and bogs down while driving or when accelerating. Seems like it slips into neutral. Takes to long to shift gears.
While driving car lost power looked down car shifted into neutral by itself. Then a few days later radio n backup camera did not turn on finally did after pushing the radio on button then after a few miles Jeep started bucking and heard a whining noise while stepping on gas. Read may complaints and this is a dangerous vehicle. This happened the first time while driving @ 50 mph the second time I was stationary starting up at first then bucking n noise starred at @ 30 mph.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Renegade. While depressing the brake pedal, a loud squealing noise was present. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions before the failure was remedied. Also, while driving in reverse, the shifter would erroneously switch to neutral. Eventually, the failure occurred while the vehicle was in drive. The contact indicated that the vehicle would also suddenly surge forward while in the park position. The cause of the failures was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 1,000.
Brakes: brakes making noise while car is in motion since purchase; severe rotor wear and malfunction six months after purchase; rotors deeply gouged and glazed blue 12 months after purchase; brake function in serious decline; two third party mechanics confirmed; Jeep denies there is a problem and refuses to address. Transmission: (all issues while car is in motion - both while driving forward and in reverse) audible thuds, clunks, "bicycle chain" noise, delay 10-30 seconds when changing gears, gears slipping while in motion (with indicator light), acceleration (due to down shifting) after braking (in stop-and-go traffic) but I'm not stepping on the gas pedal; when starting from a full stop (at a traffic light) I push on the gas pedal but the car doesn't move, then lurches forward and clunks); backing up in reverse, when putting the car into drive and trying to move, the car takes up to 30 seconds to recognize this but still clunks and lurches forward electrical: several indicator lights (such as the icy conditions indicator) worked in the first few months but no longer work; remote entry access is intermittent at best (I have to be practically touching the car with my remote to unlock it); sometimes the car doesn't acknowledge there is remote entry at all; the ability to adjust the drivers side seat (seat recline, seat position) has failed at times (most recently I was on a ferry boat and had put the seat back to nap (car was off/parked) and the seat would not go back up into a regular driving postion - had to restart the car on/off several times before the ability was restored); twice in December 2016 the entire dash computer gave me a warning that there was a system issue (while driving on the freeway) and it shut down and rebooted while I was driving; when starting the car every single lighting dash warning light comes on and flashes over and over (5 mins).
