Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) Problems of Jeep Renegade

Jeep Renegade owners have reported 7 problems related to gas recirculation valve (egr valve) (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2016 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 08/18/2019

July 2018 first time it happened: I was in traffic flowing along on the highway at 70mph and it slowed to a crawl. . . Stop and go at 5-10mph for about 15 minutes. Road dry, sunny, about 92 degrees f. I had the ac on and the radio full blast. I was pulling forward to crawl along and it stalled. Came to a complete stop. The message center says it's not running and hit the brake and the ignition button so I did, and it started and I moved out. Happened again about 5 min. Later. This time it didn't just start and I had to put it in park for a moment before it would start. Lucky for me we were going slow enough that people worked around me. The third time I was moving along faster at about 20mph as the congestion was freeing up. . . It stalled again. It was scary, nothing works and I had to glide over to the emergency lane. Dangerous. Scary. I know the 2017 Jeep had a recall for stalling due to a bfp. Does my 2016 have this issue also? I am no longer under warranty and I can't afford to have it checked out. I called Chrysler and reported it. Today it happened for a second time Aug. 2019 vehicle had been accelerating and decelerating constantly around 10-20 mph for about 30 miles as elevation was gained, very hot temps in 90's. Ac on. All loss of power, no warning lights, vehicle shuts off. Upon restart car is parked for about hour. Next accelerating and decelerating, 30-60 mph, while losing elevation, whenever the gas was depressed it hesitated and began to stall. Had to keep the ac off, whenever it was on it hesitated more. Finally at highway speeds 60-65 mph if you let off gas and then began to accelerate it would hesitate again and again. When vehicle was at a complete stop it would also hesitate in idle drive. It almost stalled dozens and dozens of times.

2 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2015 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 06/03/2019

While I was driving on the interstate, going 70 mph, my car stopped running and said there was an error. I had a family member help me load it up and take it to the dealership. They told me that my fuel sensor malfunctioned and showed me that I had gas however my car had no gas. I had to purchase an entire fuel pump since the sensor is integrated within the pump. My mileage was 36,000 now my radiator fan assembly needs replaced as it is going out. I am at 41,000 miles now. I noticed a weird noise coming from the motor area while I was idling. I noticed.

3 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2017 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

My car has stalled two days in a row at the same spot. In the morning it reflects that I have low oil pressure but then the warning goes away immediately. After work, I was able to drive for a 0. 5 miles before it stalled after the same turn. I took it to the dealership and they couldn't do anything because my warning lights aren't going off. They topped my car off with oil even though I just got an oil change 2 months ago. This has never happened before and am regretting my decision of getting a Jeep.

4 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2016 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

Stalled during stop and go traffic on the highway three times in 30 minutes. Dry roads, sunny 90 degrees f, going straight. Ac on full blast. No indication of any problems. Only 41000 miles. New vehicle for me. I know the 2017 was recalled (u18), and this looks just like it, but on the 2016.

5 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2017 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 11/26/2017

After filling gas tank, I tried to start car and it took a couple of tries to get it to crank over. Once it started, the car was making an intense knocking noise and sputtering so violently it actually caused the whole car to rock. After a few minutes it settled down and I pulled onto the street and the car just died. . . No light indicators at all and the instrument panel looked as if the car was turned off. Again it took a couple of tries, but the car finally started and began knocking and sputtering about, then settled down. I entered the freeway onramp and noticed when I let my foot off the accelerator, the car would essentially die while going 60 miles an hour. I got off the freeway and by the time I stopped on the offramp, the car had died again. I had to put on my hazard lights for about 3 minutes until the car started again. I drove to a parking lot and pressed the onboard button for roadside assistance. They came and towed the car to the dealer. The outside temperature was 67 degrees and there was a slight rain sprinkle. Before I got gas, the car was fine. I had 1/4 of a tank and the gas light had just come on. I had never used valero gas before and for some reason it took 13. 5 gallons to fill the tank that already had a 1/4 of a tank in it. In the past the most I have fueled up while on less than 1/8 of a tank was 11. 8. I'm not sure the fuel situation matters, but I thought I would mention it just in case. This issue was really scary and unnerving. The car has 4500 miles on it.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2016 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 09/29/2017

When driving my vehicle September 29 2017. My 1. 3 year old Renegades check engine light turned on. Called to make appointment immediately with dealer. 5 minutes later the the temperature spiked in about 1 second to around 265 degrees. The temperature gauge gave no indication of a rising temperature and literally shot up. The radiator cooling fan locked up. Part is on national backorder don't know when it will get repaired and dont know how much engine damage has occurred. Seems to be a national issue as there are other Renegades that have been waiting for months for the same parts and have been at dealership for months. Wish Jeep would give me a refund as vehicle only gas 11800 miles and potentially gas catasprophic damage. Should be a recall and fav should buy vehicle back. Temperature gauge was useless as it only shows the level at normal and from one degree to the next shot to max. Once it went down a few degrees. Dropped backed down to normal range even though was still in 260 degree range. Faulty and unreliable. Most likely fcs will say engine is fine then it will break die due to warped or cracked cylinder or head gasket. Vehicle was in motion on a city street in semi steady traffic. Going in a straight line.

7 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2015 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 03/15/2016

I have had the Jeep for 18 months, bought brand new, and have in shop at least 14 times. The scariest problem was when I pulled out into traffic, got up to about 35 mph and the car went into "lockdown". Car put itself into neutral, air bags turned off, brakes didn't work, and just about every other system turned off. This has happened 3 times and the 1st 3 times, they kept saying it was a software update. Turned out the engine thermostat was reading it was -40 degrees and this caused it. Now I have a service tire pressure system warning, after having to replace all 4 tires after only 28k miles. This is an unsafe vehicle and have been trying to work on lemon law in florida, but now my Jeep rep is gone and looks like I have to start the process over. Why doesn't Jeep just recognize that this is a severe safety issue and I won't let my wife or son drive this vehicle, but I need it to get to work, risking my life every time I drive it.
