Had damper replaced due to death wobble at 39k miles under extended warranty related to fca lawsuit. At 59k miles experienced same death wobble and nearly crashed at highway speeds. Took it in and they said the cause was the tie rods were bad, damper was within threshold, but would replace it too as a courtesy and abundance of caution. Wouldn’t do damper replacement without tie rod fix though. Didn’t have damper and would take 5 days to get in (1 day for tie rod part), but when I stated I wanted to repair it they miraculously came up with all the parts and had it finished before tie rod part even showed up. My complaint is that the original fca lawsuit where they replaced damper was a bandaid for the real problem which is the tie rods. I paid the $2500 but will be pushing this up the chain of command. I know the lawsuit alluded to the damper not being the root of the problem but a cheaper fix for Jeep. The entire experience has been shady at best. Stew hansen’s in des moines, iowa was the service department.
It started about 4 months ago and continues to get worse and more frequent but it starts shaking and wobbling violently at high speeds especially if you hit a bump it’s almost impossible to keep it in the road. It’s very scary and dangerous. After googling I heard about the death wobble which Chrysler has recalled some of the same models as mine. Any information or help you could give us would be appreciated. It also just started overheating when sitting idle probably not related but don’t understand why mine is having so many problems it’s not old enough.
Typically in the morning my steeling will jerk the first time I make a turn. Luckily I was able to get it under control but almost went off the side of the rode.
The steering is loose and you have to turn the wheel a lot for it to go around a curve and it’s just a hassle.
Abs light came on, car will stop on its own while driving 70 miles an hour and kill the acceleration. Steering will go out. Speedometer will not work. Check engine light will come on. Gear shift gets stuck in place. This car is a major safety hazard that Jeep has ignored. I have gotten stuck on the side of the road on bridges, highways side streets due to the fact the gear shift will not move out of park and all the lights come on in the car.
The steering wheel locks up in which it makes it very hard to turn. This usually happens when the vehicle has been sitting for hours and then is driven. Also the weather is usually cold when this happens. Initial driving is hard and it continues for a few minutes. When driving around a roundabout the wheel almost did not straighten out and I would have been going into the curb. This is a dangerous situation in which it has occurred on a regular straight road. The incident occurs at any speed. After putting the vehicle in drive, it is hard to maneuver at the start of being in a parking position. There are no warning lights or error codes that reflect an issue. The dealership has checked it out twice and cannot reproduce the issue. I stated 11/4/23 as the date of occurrence but it has happened many times since late 2022.
I bought this 2019 Jeep Wrangler and it is still under manufacturer warranty on the transmission and the steering damper . The transmission in my car was leaking bad and I took it to the Jeep dealership and they did not know what was wrong or how to fix it . They are all incompetent and stupid and unprofessional and know nothing about cars also the recall on the steering damper was done 2 years ago and now I had to replace it because the car was dangerously shaking very bad . The transmission is still under manufacturer warranty and I took it to another shop and he fixed the leak in the transmission and he said it’s it’s the cooler line connector in the transmission so this repair that cost me 478 dollars should be refunded to me from Jeep manufacturer since it’s still under warranty.
Abs light will come on, speedometer will stop working, gear shift will lock up and not move. Jeep will stop moving while on highway at random times without any warning. Steering will lock up on turns not allowing the vehicle to turn.
When driving at speeds of approximately 45+ the front end for no apparent reason begins to violently shake back & forth making the vehicle impossible to control. You must immediately put on the brakes to slow the vehicle until the wobbling stops. This has progressively gotten worse. It’s what is referred to as the Jeep death wobble. It is in the shop now waiting to be looked at.
My 2019 Jeep Wrangler steering wheel starts to vibrate then shake and then the car shakes while I am driving on the highway. It happened 4 times in the last week. One time last week , 2 times last night and once tonight while driving on the highway.
I have had a multitude of problems with this vehicle since driving it off the lot. The most recent “the Jeep death wobble”.
While driving the power steering went out. Stopped turned the engine off and back on. It still happened several times. Had to the power steering replaced with a power steering pump bought from Chrysler and it did it again. Now what?.
Have been experiencing extreme shaking and vibration so called “death wobble. ” in 2023 I took it to the dealership to look into the issue to which they changed the steering stabilizer. Even though that helped for a few years however it did not resolve the problem. It was still occurring just not to the same degree. Currently I have tried to reach out to the dealership to look into the problem and the dealership refuses as the car or the part is not covered under warranty. However not enough time or mileage has passed for the car to not be under warranty. The dealership and the fca refuse to help. This issue is very serious! it common with these models of Jeep Wranglers and are life threatening.
Significant play in the steering. Very noticeable at highway speeds, vehicle tended to wander and need a lot of steering input to track straight. Took it to the dealer, the replicated the problem. There is a bulletin # 08-003-21 rev a. The repair cost $1300. Seems like it should be a recall and covered by the manufacturer.
While driving all dash lights come on and steering locks up. Been in shop for weeks and they cannot find out the reason. There are several videos on youtube of same issues. This is very dangerous, especially if driving at highway speeds. How do I file to get this on recall list? my wife was driving at low speed when it happened and was able to get to side of road.
Steering wheel as a massive 30 degree play while driving.
2019 Wrangler jl sport 2 door manual. 68,000miles. Started with flashing abs light 2months ago with then start stop not working given I replaced the aux battery 3 months before this happened delearship said both batteries needed replaced so I did that. Moving forward 2 weeks agos I got all these codes ,picture attached ,ran the scanner because I got my dash lit up with every warning you can possibly imagine. Every time it happened ( more then 5times , less then 10)it wouldnt let me turn it over to off but wound turn over to acc. While making a weird noise(video attached) . Finally it will turn over to off. . One day on the turnpike the Jeep did this but this time I lost my power steering. The dealership has had it now for over a week. The pulled over 60codes for communication. They clear the codes and have driven it over 100miles not being able to replicate the-same problem I had and no codes are popping up. They still have the Jeep.
While driving, traction control light came on. Eventually went away after shutting off vehicle, but engine light came on. Things escalated a week later when all warning lights starting coming on while I was driving and I lost power steering. I took to the dealership and they said several wires had rubbed against a condenser. The fixed the wires. Approx. 2 weeks go by with no problems. Then my Jeep was idling in a parking lot and all the lights start coming on and what I assume was the engine fan started running. It sounded like the Jeep was going to blow up the way the fan was running. I shut the Jeep off and when turned back on, the engine light was on and was able to drive it home. Took it to the dealership and as sitting in the parking lot, it again had all the warning lights going off and the fan went crazy again. It has now been at the dealership for two weeks. No answers. I’ve done research on line and there are lots of people experiencing the same problem. Needs a recall! this is absolutely dangerous to be occurring when driving.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 55 mph uphill, the vehicle failed to respond upon depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle lost power steering functionality. Additionally, the stereo and the windshield wipers engaged independently. A message indicating a shifter column failure was displayed, and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to exit the highway and pulled into a driveway, where she parked the vehicle. The contact stated that the engine continued running after pressing the start/stop button several times to turn off the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that the engine revved up significantly while the accelerator pedal was not depressed. The contact pressed the start/stop button again, and the vehicle turned off. The contact then restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle responded as needed; however, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that upon using an obd reader, codes indicating lost communication with abs control module, torque request signal from pcm denied, can communication messages missing, invalid data from ecm/pcm, lost communication with scm/canc and implausible missing transmission message, were read. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
I purchased this vehicle used and out of warranty in February of this year 2023. I've had continuous issues with the steering. I have contacted my local dealerships explaining my issues. I've contacted fca explaining my issues. By both I'm told I need to bring my vehicle in for a diagnostic test that will cost me $250 plus dollars and then any repair will cost out of pocket. The vehicle wonders while driving at speeds any speed, but more so at highway speeds, I have almost 2" of slop in my steering wheel, a shimmy in the front and have experienced death wobble numerous times. My family will not ride in my Wrangler and I personally feel it is unsafe as well. I have already personally replaced ball joints and an aftermarket steering stabilizer in hopes of correcting these issues. I learned that fca is aware of an issue with the aluminum steering gear of which my Wrangler still has. I also learned of a TSB for the steering stabilizer, track bar and software update for the power steering itself. As previously stated all my symptoms are exactly as these TSB's describe, and I had no knowledge of them prior to purchasing and experiencing these issues.
The board computer started to mention „service shifter“ when I was driving. Then the engine switched in neutral when I was still driving, telling a problem about the shifter. Later other systems failed, for example the servo for the steering, ehat has been very dangerous, as the steering wheel did not react anymore and I had to do a emergency break. Also, the engine could not be stopped.
Vehicle experiencing "death wobble. " steering is very shaky if a bump is hit at highway speeds.
I am reporting the Jeep "death wobble". I have made an appointment to have the dealer look at the issue but experienced the death wobble on the interstate two different times traveling at 72 and 73 mph. After going over a relatively small bump at 73 mph going east on I-94 at right around mile marker 260 in wisconsin, my Jeep shook uncontrollably until I reduced speed to under 40 mph. Again, on my way home on I-94, my daughter hit a bump right around mile marker 246 heading west. The Jeep violently shook and she had to pull over and come to a stop. While we did not get into an accident, the need for rapid deceleration on the interstate absolutely could cause an accident. I am so disappointed in Jeep!.
The steering on this vehicle has always seem to have a lack of input, just wonders about the lane. Driving it on a windy day is bordered on dangerous as the wind will push you around. The Jeep has a pull to the right and while you counter steer that and get a gust also pushing you left, you now are in the other lane. I was on i25 on a windy day fighting the steering and passed a 18 wheeler the dead air while next to the truck allows the Jeep to relax somewhat then the gust from the front of the truck pushed me into the next lane before I could correct nearly making contact with the car in that lane. If that car had not made an evasive maneuver we would have sure collided. As it turns out Jeep is aware of this issue and has a TSB (08-074-20 rev. B) to replace a poorly designed steering gear box but will only do so if the vehicle is under the 3/36 warranty. This Jeep has 47k miles, under no circumstances should a steering gear box be worn out at that mileage period. This should be a recall! make these manufacturers spend some of the billions in profits and fix the junk they sell. Steering and brakes should be first on the list of things that get recalled.
When I was driving on a plane road with no bumps my steering wheel started to shake violently making the whole car and dashboard shake. I’ve called Jeep to inform them but they said it is not covered and there is no recall for my vehicle instead want to run a diagnostic and have me pay for the repairs and diagnostic even though it’s a leased vehicle.
Was driving interstate in san diego, CA about 65 mph and on 4 different occasions when I hit a bump or rough patch of road the front end of the car and steering wheel started shaking violently. It was hard to control the vehicle and I had nowhere I could go because I was in traffic at high speeds. Was finally able to move over to a side lane and slow the vehicle down which caused the shaking to stop. No lights of any kind came on in the vehicle. Very dangerous for this to be happening on CA roads with such heavy traffic. Not only does it put me at risk, but others as I have to slow down to 40-45 mph for the shaking to stop. Will be taking it in to dealership for inspection. As I have researched. . . This appears to be another case of the "death wobble".
About 2-2. 5 months ago, our 2019 Jeep Wrangler completely stalled out at a stop light. At the time it stalled, the dash started flashing and gave me many warning lights. I was unable to put the transmission in park in order to try to start the vehicle again. After many attempts, I was finally able to place in park and start the vehicle. I then went thru a drive thru and it did the same thing and left me stranded in the drive thru lane without being able to start it for about 10 minutes. The next day, I was on my way to work and while traveling on the highway at 75 miles per hour, the vehicle stalled out, the dash wigged out and I lost all control of the vehicle including steering. The engine revved up to a higher rpm and I was unable to put it in neutral to try to slow it down and control the vehicle to a safe stop on the side of the highway. There were a couple of close calls with other vehicles due to the inability to control the steering or the engine speed. The next day, I took the Jeep to the dealership and when scanned for codes, there was over 150 codes including losing communication with the body control module. Dealership test drove and the tech had the vehicle replicate the issues and leave him stranded 7 times in one day from and back to the shop. At this time, my concern is the safety of my family. For now it appears that the issue has been resolved, but there have been many similar instances reported with the same danger of crashing. Paperwork obtained from my dealership reflects there was a module that was replaced when the vehicle had less than 8,000 miles that was supposed to fix this issue, however it occurred to our Jeep that had less than 25,000 miles on it. The paperwork also states "!!attention!! this vehicle may have had 7 visits, 69 days down and 8 repeat repairs, service personnel should notify dealership service management and engage fca service and parts resources. " doesn't this fall under the lemon law?.
While driving with no warning the fuse array went bad causing the Jeep to lose all power including power steering and started jerk and pulsate. Everything turned off and left the vehicle stranded for several minutes in the middle of a dark street at night. Hazard lights did not work as well during this time. After continuously pushing the start button it started back up with the dashboard showing all different warnings with the clearest one in the middle of the dash reading “stop safely the vehicle will shut off soon” the vehicle was taken to the local dealership where it did the same thing for them. Later it was confirmed by them it was the fuse array.
I have experienced the death wobble 4-5 times. The dealer says they have already replaced the steering damper once already. I am concerned there are more issues with the steering system on this Jeep.
I have experienced the steering system death wobble routinely in my daily driving and it is reproducible. When it occurs three vehicle is no longer controllable until rewatching a speed below 40mph. Additionally, the vehicle now wanders more than it did originally with more effort to keep it going straight. Autopark Chrysler Jeep has inspected the vehicle and provided a list of repairs. The costs are exorbitant so only the steering damper was replaced for a cost of $700. The wandering has not been addressed.
I purchased this car, Jeep sahara 2019 last Wednesday, and the steering wheel locked while is I was turning to the right! and it happens again around five minutes after! and I I couldn’t moved it to the left or to the right! almost get to an accident l! I’m very concerned because we paid $44,000 dollars for this used vehicle and I honestly lost my trust and confidence on this vehicle because this kind of incidents can ended up in catastrophic accidents!!.
My Jeep Wrangler when driving 65mph or higher starts to wooble making it very hard to control. Usually it happens when there is small bumps roughness in the road. This issue started since it got to the 22k miles.
Service shifter warning showed up in center of dash and check engine light illuminated coming home from work on a Friday. Parked the car for the weekend, drove it to work Monday morning and there were no lights or warnings. Went to grab lunch 5 minutes away and on the way back, service shifter light pops up again (no cel this time) and complete loss of power steering in a two lane jughandle to cross a highway putting everyone in that jughandle and on the highway at the intersection at risk. Thankfully the light turned red so I could stop the vehicle. I shut it down, restarted it, and made it back to work. Took it to the dealership after work. 17 times the warning light flashed and chimed during the 30 minute drive to the dealership. They saw no warnings in the computer system and couldn't find a solution after examining the vehicle for almost two weeks. Service shifter warning still on dash and I'm just waiting until it kills me, I guess?.
2019 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sport - while driving the steering wheel locks up and all lights on dashboard come on. Several error messages "auto park disabled", "speed control messaging unavailable", "service antilock brake system", "service transmission continue in drive. Do not shift or turn off engine" - to name a few. The car will not shut off, I had to remove a fuse to get the truck to turn off. No dealer or mechanic can assess or fix. Major saftey concern. There needs to be a recall. Im out thousands of dollars trying to fix. My warranty expired the truck is a lemon.
On multiple occasions, as my wife and two children 8 and 3 were on their way home from school the steering column locked up and my wife couldn't do anything but coast into a ditch. When the steering wheel locks up, each time it throws messages of loss of communication to the steering wheel, loss communication of the shifter, and loss communication to the brakes. This problem has happened three different times after the dealerships service department has put on multiple parts to try to fix the issue with no resolution. This is a huge safety issue, and we are terrified that this problem will continue to happen. The biggest concern is, what happens if the steering wheel locks up and we cannot avoid a serious accident that could harm our family or other motorists on the road. The manufacturer has recommended we put on abs control module, pcm, and lower gear box. We have reached out to the dealership and to Jeep about this issue with no help given other than to pay out of our own pocket to fix the problem.
