While driving vehicle at approx 45mph in the rh lane approaching an intersection with an illuminated green right-turn arrow(my lane), a vehicle in the same lane, traveling same direction, suddenly stopped at the green light at the intersection. I immediately applied hard presssure to brake pedal, only to have it slam straight to the floor-board with very little braking action. I was able to quickly down-shift and apply parking brake in time to avoid collision with stopped vehicle. I carefully drove vehicle to my home, approx 3 miles from incident intersection. Upon inspection I noted brake master-cylinder empty (it was topped-off to "max" line when checked evening prior), and hydraulic fluid sprayed all-around right (passenger)-side front inner wheel and puddled/dripping at banjo-bolt. You-tube research found a similar situation with a Jeep 2 model years older than mine. . Read more...

The right front brake hose between the frame mount and the connecting point on the brake cylinder, blew out at the snap connection end. This resulted in complete loss of all hydraulic braking ability. The cause of the breakage was due to the brake hose rubbing against the inner tire wall whenever the tires were turned to the full stop position of left or right direction. Both ( right and left ) break hoses rub the inside of the tires. Had I been driving at the time, there is no doubt that an accident would have occurred possibly causing injury or even death to people. As it was, the line blew when I stepped on the brake to shift into gear. I was in a parking lot. I do have pictures available plus the damaged part for review.

No rear brakes and the front brakes locked up. The trouble takes place mostly when it snows or when it is slippery. The back brakes have never worked. Dealer changed everything in the brake system, except the master cylinder. Inspector from Jeep came ,. And worked on it. Then, they said the nature of the beast was not to have any rear brakes. Parts that were changed included three sets of brake shoes/two rear brake drums/two sets of rear wheel cylinders, proportional valve/abs computer for brake system, and two brake lines.
