While braking to slow my vehicle down to pull into a parking space in front of a laundromat, the brakes would not engage for the purpose of making a complete stop when employed; instead the Jeep unexpectedly accelerated and launched forward into the front door of the laundromat, striking the wall thereof and a washing machine ,wherefore my airbags did not deploy at anytime.

Purchased pre-owned on Nov 9, 2019 with approx 23,100 miles. On Jan 2, 2020, at approx 23,900 miles, Jeep was ascending exit ramp while braking. Cruise was on but disengaged. Started to accelerate unexpectedly and with brake pedal fully depressed, collided with car stopped at light. Shut engine off as Jeep continued to accelerate against stopped car. Accident report made. Took to dealer, who could find no cause for random acceleration. Dealer contacted manufacturer who sent 3rd party inspector to examine Jeep and contents of data recorder. Received a letter from manufacturer two weeks later stating they did not believe the vehicle was at fault. On Feb 28, 2020 at 24,564 miles, Jeep was stopped at light on exit ramp, when suddenly began to accelerate. Cruise was off. Immediately shut engine off, but was still pushed forward a couple feet. Luckily was alone at light, so no accident. Took to dealer again, who could still find no cause. They again contacted the manufacturer, but I have not yet received any further word.
Jeep acceleration from a stop is inconsistent. This concern is worse when accelerating from a slow speed. Upon initially applying light pressure to the gas pedal, there is no response, but then the vehicle lurches ahead aggressively and in an unexpected manner. This is counter-intuitive as the vehicle is equipped with etorque, which is electronically applied torque to assist acceleration. This system is to instantly apply torque to the drivetrain via secondary battery power - but if that was working as expected, one would seemingly not experience the initial delay prior to the sudden acceleration. The delayed and then lurching acceleration has resulted in near accidents - if driving in stop and go traffic, the lurching results in my rapid acceleration while drivers ahead of me may be stopping. Also, when attempting to merge into traffic from a stop or slow roll, the pause results in needing to slow or stop to wait for a better entry opportunity, but at that same moment, the acceleration kicks in. This is not performance that one would expect and is a less than optimal safety experience. I took the Jeep to the dealer for repair and their response was the tech said he drove a 2 door 2. 0 liter over the weekend and it did the same thing, so it must be normal. I stressed that not being an acceptable response to my request for assessment and repair. In response they flashed the software, but that did not correct the problem and the vehicle continues to demonstrate the same issue.

Stopped at stop light. Car stationary. Out of nowhere engine accelerates on it's own and runs into an 18 wheeler truck that is passing through in intersection. I tried to stop forward thrust by putting both feet on brake, taking out of gear which wouldn't budge, then pulling up on hand brake. After hitting back trailer wheel of truck and Jeep raising back end off ground from impact acceleration stopped and engine idled. Sudden unintended acceleration. Manufacturer defect. Accident still under investigation by insurance company. Jeep towed to body shop.

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Jeep Wrangler. While driving approximately 35 mph on a steep incline, the contact downshifted the manual transmission and the vehicle accelerated rapidly without warning. The contact placed the vehicle in neutral to forcibly stop the vehicle and the rpms increased to the maximum. The contact restarted the vehicle after three attempts. The vehicle was taken to salmon river motors (1065 south chillis street, salmon, idaho 83467, (208) 756-4211) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact was referred to the manufacturer, but they were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

Incident 1. ) on August 17th, 2015 around 8:00 pm I was driving in the left lane of the gsp traveling at approximately 70 mph when my vehicle erroneously accelerated to 80 mph while simultaneously pulling slightly to the left. At first, I thought my carpet had been stuck but I quickly realized that this was not the case. Being I had a manual shift, I immediately was able to shift into neutral. In doing so, the engine was still revving high thus making a loud engine sound (I did not get to see the actual rpm. ) I began kicking the side of the gas pedal while trying to pull slightly to the right to keep the vehicle on the road. Eventually the car just went back to normal. This whole process may have been about twenty to thirty seconds long. Incident 2. ) on August 18th, 2015 around 6:20 am (not even 12 hours from the first incident above) I was driving in the left lane of the gsp traveling at approximately 70- 75 mph when my vehicle erroneously braked hard as if it was a ¿brake check and the abs traction control light lit at the same time. It was like I slammed on my brakes only this happened while my foot was on the accelerator. I quickly looked in my rear view mirror and saw the car behind me shoot into the adjacent lane to my right in avoidance of a collision with my rear of the vehicle. This happened quickly and harshly and then it was over. I moved into the right lane and continued to work with caution. I called my local Jeep service center and explained my situation. They were going to schedule me for the earliest appointment of August 31st 2015 but I stressed that this was not good enough as it was a potential serious safety issue to myself and others. I was directed to bring it in tomorrow 8-19-15 in the morning.

Incident: while stopping in traffic with the foot firmly on the brake my Jeep had an unintended acceleration causing a rear in crash. This unintended acceleration happen before on a trip to tennessee in June but was thought to be the floor mat which now is known not to be the case. ( both were witnessed by the passenger) these incidents and complaint were given to Chrysler regarding the experience with the vehicle accelerating and surging. However, Chrysler denied any responsibility regarding the malfunction which resulted in the accident. Because I realized the Jeep was unsafe to drive. I had it towed to the local Chrysler Jeep dealer. Due to safety concerns and to protect life and property. I refuse to drive the vehicle again and bought another car. The dealership where I purchased my new vehicle was told not to sell it until the timp is replaced in the Jeep. This mishap has cost me several thousand dollars which should had been paid for by Chrysler.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated to 80 mph. The contact applied the brakes but the vehicle did not respond. The contact then shifted into neutral, drive, and then applied the brakes to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken for diagnosis. On a separate occasion while driving 45 mph, the brakes would not respond and the vehicle also became hesitant to acceleration attempts. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic but was advised to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 122,000.

My Jeep Wrangler (2dr, 4x4) was in the parking lot at work. When I started it and moved the gear shift from park to drive, the vehicle suddenly accelerated violently. Within 2 seconds, I was slamming into the vehicle in front of me. By then I was jamming on the brakes again, but my car still felt like it was increasing in speed--throttle wide open! when I hit the car in front of me, my Jeep pushed it about 15 feet up over a curb til it finally hit another car and stopped. Its back tires were about 10 inches deep into the dirt and jammed up against another vehicle. My Jeep was still going, and climbed up across his hood and over to the other side, coming to rest upright. My Jeep left tire marks on the pavement as I tried to stop it. The car I hit, a 2009 Volkswagen, was destroyed--totaled. Over $20,000 damage on that car alone. There was over $7000 damage to my Jeep. The 3rd vehicle had damage as well. The entire incident took less than 5 seconds---this was confirmed by people who heard the sounds of the engine screaming and the crash itself. My toes and the ball of my foot hurt for a couple of days from jamming on the brake, but my Jeep didn't have time to stop before it was hitting the car in front of me. The car I hit slowed me down, and probably saved me. I have some minor whiplash and had a terrible headache for several days, but otherwise no one was injured--could have been fatal if that car wasn't in front of me to stop me, because I was going so fast. Could have killed someone in parking lot. Chrysler has sent an investigator over last week (an over-night trip) to look at the Jeep, and he said that the throttle body had an excessive amount of "coking" (a sticky carbon/tar-like residue) in it, and that it could have stuck and caused the sudden acceleration. I just got another call from the same Chrysler investigator and he wants to see the Jeep again.

The contact owns a 2010 Jeep Wrangler. While driving at 65 mph
the vehicle suddenly accelerated to 90 mph. The contact applied extreme pressure to the brakes as the vehicle began to decrease in speed. There was an unusually high increase in engine rpms and the contact shut off the engine. The engine continued to idle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where they were unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer would not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 10,000.

Sudden acceleration occurred while idling in traffic while the brakes were being applied. This caused the vehicle to run in back of a truck. No injuries reported. Dealer was notified. The consumer stated that the dealer downloaded software to power train computer from the 1998 service bulletin. The bulletin stated that when the temperature rose to 103 celsius it could cause high rpm in parking lot maneuvers or stop and go traffic. The consumer stated that this should have been done to all 99 models. The consumer sold the vehicle.
