1 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/05/2020

Horn, and all controls on my steering wheel went out. Not sure about my airbag. I thought it may be due to airbag recall but when I went to my dealership to have the recall work done, they told me it was the passenger side airbag only but that it could be the clockspring because they have had several Jeeps come in for that same issue. I was actually driving, trying to avoid a car coming into my lane when I found out I had no horn! that's how I found out.

3 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/09/2020

First my horn stopped working then the buttons on the steering wheel quit working then the radio started getting all static but at first when radio started being static the cd player still worked and then the cd player would play intermittenly and not a sound in radio mode now now cd , no radio, no steering wheel button and no horn. The cruise control light comes on if the button is pressed but that is it. It is important to have a working horn safety!!! I was told it is the clockspring going out and causing all these issues and causeing the amplifier to fail and the stereo malfunction and needing to be replaced. Costing a couple thousand dollars.

4 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/10/2019

Early may 2019 my Jeep's steering wheel controls started malfunctioning and now completely not working. The horn stopped working, radio and hands free controls on the steering wheel. I can not use my dash screen at all and it's just showing - - . I could not use my horn on may10th and was cut off and as a result was in an accident. The front end was significantly damaged and the airbags didn't deploy and I busted my face on the steering wheel and hit head on windshield. Diagnostic scan said there was 0 codes prior to accident and that triggered me to do research on the clock spring recall but my VIN is not under it???.

5 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/28/2019

While driving with cruise control engaged on the highway at roughly 80mph, the cruise control kicks off. Check engine light displays and the esc light comes on. Vehicle loses power and decelerates on its own. Have to floor the gas pedal to keep the vehicle moving. Experiences momentary bursts of speed but then speed declines again although the gas pedal is still pressed to the floor. I believe this is attributed to the clockspring assembly but my vehicle was not included in the recall. Can my VIN be added so I can get this issue resolved?.

Airbag clockspring was replaced under recall m031 in early 2012. The part recalled had failed again causing airbag light to be illuminated, loss of speed control, loss of steering wheel audio controls, loss of horn, and loss of "step" and "reset buttons for the information center. This issue started out when turning the steering wheel in the left or right position and within a few weeks has became a constant problem to no avail.

12 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/03/2015

The speed control failed, shortly after that the airbag warning light illuminated. Jeep service had to replace the clock spring to fix the issues. The airbag warning light was intermittent, it would eliminate whenever the stirring wheel was turned and then reset shortly after returning to center. If any force was applied to the stirring wheel I. E. Gently pulling on it or pushing on it it would also cause the airbag warning light to illuminate. The speed control failure was complete. It would not activate at all after failure.

13 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/17/2015

I was operating my vehicle on the highway and attempted to engage the steering wheel mounted speed control. The speed control failed to turn on, so I pressed the button several times and found that it would not activate (turn on and show "cruise" on the gauge cluster). Approximately an hour later I pressed the cruise control button several more times, and it eventually showed "cruise" in the gauge cluster. I was then able to set the speed control to 70 mph. After traveling on the highway for approximately one hour with the cruise control set, I attempted to shut it off utilizing the steering wheel mounted button. The cruise control would not deactivate by pressing the on / off button. I was approaching an exit, and was able to deactivate the cruise control by utilizing the vehicles brakes, however the I could not shut the power to the cruise control off until I shut the Jeep ignition off. The cruise control power button now works intermittently. Sometimes it will activate the cruise control power, sometimes it will not. I do not feel comfortable utilizing the vehicle feature due to the inability to consistently shut it off. I have conducted some research on line and have seen many complaints on Jeep forums about this issue. The forums have stated that many Jeeps have defective clock springs.

14 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/02/2015

I currently own a 2011 Jeep Wrangler that is experiencing some electrical issues. Currently the airbag light is on and there is a chime indicating such. This chime occurs approximately every 1 to 2 minutes. At about the same time the airbag light problem occurred, the other controls on the steering wheel such as the horn, cruise control and radio controls stopped functioning. I contacted Jeep (Chrysler) about the issue and was told they would contact me within 24-48 hours concerning this issue. Approximately 10 days went by and I had not heard back from Jeep. I contacted Jeep and was told that they will not fix this issue. I explained to them the safety concerns with not having a working horn and a questionable airbag. This did not seem to be an issue that they were to concerned about. I've been in law enforcement for several years now, and I cannot stress enough about the importance of having a functioning airbag. This is coming from some of the accidents that I have either witnessed or worked as an investigating officer. I have found through research that several earlier model (2007-2008) Jeep Wranglers have been recalled for similar issues. This is a recurring problem and I am sure you have received complaints on this issue in the past. This is my second Jeep and the company replaced the part that was causing the issue before. It was a 2007. This part is referred to as a clock spring and cost over $500. 00 to replace. I would like for this issue to be addressed before someone is gravely affected.

15 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/12/2015

The airbag light came on and the left steering wheel controls quit working, later all steering wheel controls quit working. I researched and found a previous recall for the clock spring which was up until models manufactured in November 2011. Called the dealership and was told there was no recall on my vehicle. Mine is a right hand drive manufactured in March 2012. It is a safety issue and should be recalled. It happened out of warranty.

16 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Cruise control went out about a year ago. Recently the airbag light comes on intermittently with a warning tone. Appears to be a faulty clockspring.

On a 2009 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags. The vehicle also no longer has functioning speed control. This has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2007-2012 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. The clock spring on these vehicles are notorious for being faulty. Chrysler recalled right hand drive Jeeps for this same issue. This disables the horn the cruise control, the airbag, and the electronic stability control. All very important issues in case of an accident.

22 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/19/2014

On the 2008 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes stays on steady with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags. This has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. This faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. 24 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

My airbag light is constantly on and my cruise control no longer works. I am a lhd 2008 Wrangler and as I have seen across the internet this is a huge problem. Why is there no recall on the lhd 2008 Wranglers when there is for the rhd and 2007 lhd Wranglers. The same clock springs are used in all these vehicles and they are faulty across the board. This needs to be a recall as my airbag will not deploy if I get into an accident. Chrysler is responsible and should be held accountable for this issue in my model yr and lhd. It doesn't matter if I am sitting, drive or whatever the airbag light is always on as soon as I start the engine and my cruise control does not work.

25 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/11/2013

Traveling down road, noticed air bag light staying on, esp wouldn't work, horn inoperative. Called Jeep dealer and they said to come in for diagnosis as the air bag light indicated a fault in air bag system. Took to dealers and they had to replace clock-spring wiring harness to cure problem. Not in warrenty period and when Chrysler was contacted they would not accept cost as it was not under recall. I therefore had to pay for repair. The dealer said to keep invoice as it may later be a safety recall. It should be as I was told the problem could cause the air bag system to malfunction. Being in the Jeep community I know of thousands of Jeep Wranglers having the same problem. Copy of invoice attached.

26 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/05/2013

Since early July, my 2008 Jeep Wrangler 2dr lhd has lost horn functionality, cruise control functionality, and has been illuminating the airbag warning light. I have researched this issue and I believe there should be a safety recall on the 2008 Wrangler to replace faulty clocksprings just as there was for the 2007 Wrangler.

29 Speed Control Springs problem of the 1999 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

I was driving an old washed out and bumpy mountain road. Due to the bumps, I could not go much faster than 15mph. The road/ground was wet and slippery so I was in 4hi. After going down the road for about 30 minutes and going around a turn, the airbag light came on. As I turned the wheel in the opposite direction, to go around a large downed tree, it momentarily shut off, then returned to on. I immediately turned the Jeep off and checked the airbag fuses. Both are good. Puzzled and rather nervous that the airbag might go off in my face, I turned around to go back to the main road. After nervously driving a few miles down the road, I returned the Jeep to the speed limit and attempted to engage my cruise control but, the light wouldn't turn on. I tried all the cruise control buttons to no avail. Pulled over and checked the fusebox again for the cruise control fuse but, I couldn't find one anywhere. After driving another 100 miles home, I let my sister's fiance, who's a mechanic, check it with his scan tool. According to his scan tool, the clockspring has malfunctioned. After doing a few google searches, it's apparent that the cost to have this fixed is very high. The part itself is over $200 and needs to be replaced by a mechanic! labor is going to be at least another $200 based on how much time it will take and the fact that it will more than likely have to be done at a dealership. Shouldn't this be a lifetime part? why should I have to pay to have this fixed if it's a major safety issue? any response would be greatly appreciated as I don't have the money to have this fixed and I'm rather nervous to drive it now. What are the odds of the airbag going off? best regards, eric gallegos.

30 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/12/2012

Continuing failure of electric clock spring/ cruise / horn systems. It has been to dealer 4 times and "fixed" and then re-fails within a short amount of miles. 6314, 9057, 10730, 18456 and is currently failing again(22000). Back to dealer as soon as I can schedule. I will first notice that the cruise control will not turn on and some times the horn will not work. However sometimes if I can honk the horn and then the cruise control will start working again; maybe for a few 100's of a few 1,000 miles. I am worry about the possible failure of the air bag if this keeps up. Please advice. My dealer keeps trying, but Jeep need to resolve! thanks. I will upload copies of my prior 4 service documents.

The abs esp and bas lights come on when going over a bump, having a car wash or going around a corner. This has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2009 Jeep Wrangler 4-dr 4x4 (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. It's all over the web on various online Jeep forums. This faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2009 Jeep Wrangler 4-dr 4x4 (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. Daimler Chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying. I have spent over $1000 replacing parts and getting the Jeep Chrysler certified technicians to diagnose the issue and resolve it but to date they have not and the lights are still on.

2007 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 safari with esp (electronic stability program). Esp intermittently turns on by itself and can't be turned off. It will eventually turn itself off.
