The dash blower control was not working. When the mechanic check it and the system, it was discovered that the blower had over heated the pigtail connectors and melted them. The blower control was visibly melted and multiple signs of overheating were apparent. The blower control, all pigtail connectors and the blower had to be replaced. This was caught just short of me having to deal with a fire being caused by this over heating of the electrical parts of the a/c-heater system. This is the same situation as reported in other complaints. Refer to odi id numbers: 10364281, 10283272, 10181912 and 10145512.

Mode selector for the hvac system has a major issue melting the selector, harness and control module. After researching this incident online and to my surprise there is no recall on this subject. Heater not working, possible heater system catching on fire do hi voltage to the mode selector witch causes entire hvac failure and possible fire. Jeep has known about this for a while but no one seems to be getting on them about it. Again 2000 Jeep Wrangler heater control failure.

This is one more consumer complaint regarding the heater/fan/blower wiring design failure for the 2001 model of the Jeep Wrangler. I understand that this continues to occur in other tj model years as well so I think it is a systemic design problem that if not corrected by the manufacturer will eventually cause a serious injury or death. My case is typical of the failures described by other 2001 Wrangler owners in that the heater blower fan switch began to drop speeds until only the highest speed was left operational [which I understand is how the underlying electronics specifically a resistor bank fail in this model]. Recently, this 4th speed has failed and I am not driving the vehicle until I can receive some assurance that the heater blower will not continue to heat up until it catches fire as has been reported in other instances. As I write this complaint, it is about 25 degrees outside, so driving my 2001 Wrangler without heat is not an option. I guess I am lucky that (a) it failed completely in cold weather forcing me to (b) research the issue learning that (c) this obvious vehicle defect can result in the Wrangler catching fire which has forced me to (d) go without the use of the Wrangler until a factory designed and sponsored fix is engineered and installed. So, in summary, 2001 Wrangler failed heater/fan/blower switch many other cases for this model year and surrounding model years has a history of causing vehicle fires this needs to be a factory sponsored re-engineer and recall, and needs to be done now before a fire situation causes a serious accident or injury or death !.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. The vehicle is a right hand ride Jeep. At 9,000 miles, the contact had to replace the heating switches and wiring harness. She took the vehicle to the dealer and they dismantled the dashboard. They noticed several malfunctions and replaced a number of wiring harnesses in order to repair the heating switches. Recently, the vehicle had to be returned to the dealer due to alternator failure. The alternator sent so much heat to the battery that is caused the water to boil. Sulfuric acid spilled all over the firewall of the vehicle. The contact was informed that the alternator was sending currents of up to 19 volts to the battery. The failure mileage was 56,000. Updated 05/21/08
the consumer stated he replaced the heater switch 3 times, the alternator and starter were replaced as well. The defroster was inoperative. Updated 05/20/08.

Wiring overheating and melting blower motor fan switch at 36,500 miles. Wiring overheating and melting multifunction switch for turn signals, headlamps, hazards, etc. . . At 37,800 miles. Unknown cause for either failure. Replaced blower motor control switch assembly after failure myself as it was only $25 usd and 10 minutes time. Now the multifunction switch is doing the same - melting and causing headlamps to fail. Is there a voltage control problem with the electrical systems to cause these failures? will the replaced parts fail again? will a fire result the next time? updated 02-01-08

Defroster/heater fan doesn't work. Each time I take it in to service dealer, am told it's fixed, but it stops working. Heater control and harness has been replaced 2 times and still doesn't work. It is winter in WI, need the fan for heat and defrosting.
The a/c,heater blower switch mopar part 305011214aa over heats and the wiring start to melt, the switch starts to melt and then the switch fails. There appears to be to much current draw from the blower motor. It causes the dark green power lead connected to the switch to overheat melting the insulation on the lead and the connections on the switch. This has occured again today September 22,2012. This caused the same problem, wires overheat, connections and wires melt and switch housing at connections start to smolder until switch fails, when switch fails current ceasses to flow to blower motor and everything cools down enough to prevent further damage to switch wiring. Fuse for the circuit does not blow out. To repair, switch must be replaced and new wire connectors insalled, and the dark green wire will start to get hot enough to be uncomfable to the touch. Dealership parts dept. Employees have confirmed that these switch fail regularly. ,.
On my Jeep Wrangler, the hvac evaporator drain tube has repeatly clogged up, causing condensed water to overflow the hvac housing, and drain onto the passenger side floor.

Vehicle was experiencing an erratic instrument cluster, and air bag light operation. Intermittently while driving instrument cluster, speedometer and tachometer rolled back to zero, and the air bag warning light came on. Also, at 82,000 miles left turn signal engaged when the brake pedal was depressed, and at 78,000 miles when driver's side door was opened while the truck was still running the defroster light came on. Dealership had not been contacted. Consumer took vehicle to two Jeep dealers and said that they're aware of the problem and many customers have experienced the same problem. Also, they said that it was a defective electrical connector.
The 1997 Jeep Wrangler has a problem with the hvac dampers literally falling apart and becoming unusable. The plastic ends break off and the actuators will not operate them. The part has been upgraded by Chrysler so they now this exists. It is a fairly expensive repair (over $700). My is done. The dealer did just fine but I have ask Chrysler to make this a safety recall. The defrosters are virtually non usable when this occurs. This is a dangerour situation, driving with no defrosters. This problems has occurred on many wrangers and as my dealer said cherekee as well.

While driving transmission starts to slip. A new transmission had to be installed. There was a leaking tank seal. Water leaks through the a/c and heater hoses. There are holes at the bulk head. Theres a faulty key cylinder. The passenger door is difficult to open and close. There are 2 recalls on this vehicle. One for a faulty ignition switch and the other for hte intake manifold.
Unable to defrost windshield, no air from vents due to breakage of internal lever in heater housing. This makes the vehicle unsafe to drive in cold weather.
Water leaks under the dash on the drivers side if driving at hiway speeds. Transmission pops out of gear at take off and is hard to shift after the vehicle is driven and warmed up.
Anytime I turn the defogger during rain water comes into the vehicle.

Heater blower.
When it rains water leaks into vehicle on passengers side floor due to heater housing and seal malfunctioning. Has it repaired twice but problem still exists, the dealer has been contacted.
Leaks somewhere in h/ac venting-no leak on driver side.
1999 Jeep Wrangler with ground wire problems **answered by ric willard** cc the recall was 99v117000. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall. After the repairs the problem persisted. The consumer reached behind the cluster and when he pushed on one of the plugs they moved about an eighth of an inch. The consumer then heard the latched snap into position and he hasn't had a problem since. The heater also had a problem that the consumer thought would be corrected by recall but was not. The system changes the location of the air flow on it's own.
Defrost malfunctioning.
