4 Windshield problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

I have received 3 chips one leading to a serious crack in my windshield all on the driver's side in less than 6 months of road time. This is my second Jeep and my first never got a chip. I feel the windshield in my 2012 Jeep rubicon is of inferior quality and needs to be looked into. I fear my safety if another rock hits this windshield. I have contacted Jeep manufacture and filed complaints so it will be on file. It was recommended to go back to dealership and have them look at it and will do in near future but I wanted to file a complaint/concern with your agency too. I do not have much faith in the dealership as to making a resolve with this issue. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

One day after purchasing a brand new 2010 Jeep Wrangler 2 door, the windshield began to crack from the bottom of the windshield. There was not a rock chip and no other obvious signs of anything that would cause a windshield to crack. The dealership has stated that they will not cover it and it is not their problem. After researching this, it seems to be a common problem that Chrysler refuses to remedy.

11 Windshield problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/06/2009

Sunday April 4th, 2009 the temperature was a high of 73 and on April 5th, 2009 the high was 49. I own a 2007 Jeep Wrangler sahara with approx. 27k miles. After out running errands and using the defrost,I noticed a small crack at the bottom of the passengers side of the wind shield. When I noticed the crack it was approx. 3 " long, and ran from bottom to top, since then it has begun to curve towards the drivers side by about 1". I have taken the vehicle to two dealers and both have dismissed it has a rock chip. One service manager told me that even the smallest rock chip is enough to crack the windshield. He traced the crack with a writing pen and determined it was not a stress issue but a "rock hit". The other service manager rubbed her finger over the crack and determined it to be a "rock hit", both service managers did state that the "rock hit" could have been already present and the current temperature change could have caused the crack. One service manager did say that if the "rock hit" was not present he could fix it under the current warranty. I came home a did a google search and found several complaints about the 2007 Jeep and it's windshield.

13 Windshield problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/28/2008

Windshield cracked in front of driver seat. Vehicle was stopped in driveway when a "pop" was heard. Crack went up 2 inches, then slowly over 2 days traveled left then down again 18 inches further. The vehicle was stopped, there were no rock flying or chips anywhere. Contacted local dealer about problem. He said they are not aware of any such windshield problems being common with the Jeep jk models, he also said Chrysler hq is not aware of any such windshield problems being common either. Everyone on the internet seems to know about it. I was advised of it by another Jeep owner that hey had 2 windshields replaced already, and to watch our windshield, a week later our cracked as well.

16 Windshield problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/26/2008

I guess I am writing with more than one issue. Sorry for the inconvenience of such a long explanation but I thought long and hard before delving into this. I purchased my 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x 4-door 2wd in October of 2006. I was one of the lucky victims that while going 70 mph, the entire Jeep shut down and then restarted on it's own. This happened twice. Took it in once, I got the "I'm sorry look" and was let go. Didn't even bother with the dealership the second time and finally was lucky enough not to have a wreck before the recall was sent. Within one month, not more than 1200 on the vehicle, it would not start. Called tow trucks twice. Each time, it took the tow truck 30-45 minutes to arrive and in that time frame, with repeated efforts, I was able to get the vehicle to start. This has not happened again for about 6 - 9 months then came February 2007. It was about 45 degrees outside and I walked out to get the mail. As I looked up at the Jeep, I was stopped dead in my tracks and did not even want to face what I knew had happened. Right below where the windshield starts, right above the hood, on the drivers' side was an approximate 1" crack. I went back outside 3 times thinking maybe I "thought" I was seeing something that wasn't really there. Within one week, the crack had extended up about 1/2" and cracked horizontally about 4 inches across. So sorry again for the long, indepth letter. I just don't know what to do anymore. Would really appreciate some advice. Lana jackson lawton oklahoma.

19 Windshield problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/22/2007

The windshield on the vehicle is very weak. I have had three cracks in the last three weeks. This seems to occur on days below 32 degrees f. I do not travel gravel roads and have never had a vehicle windshield do this before.

20 Windshield problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/13/2007

I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler. I am the original owner and it is the original windshield. On December 13, 2007 the windshield cracked while I was driving. There were two cracks (possibly initiated from one point below the molding). The cracks started on the bottom just off center and went up about two inches and then curved 90 degrees and went horizontally across the windshield. The Jeep warranty book says it covers defects in the glass for one year or 12,000 miles. Since my Jeep was past this point my insurance covered it. They had safelite autoglass put in a new windshield on December 27, 2007. Six days later on January 2, 2008 on my way to work the windshield cracked again while driving. The replacement windshield was less than one week old! this time there were three cracks. One went straight up from the bottom of the windshield to the top, molding to molding. The other two were similar to the first time. They began at the bottom, went up two inches and turned 90 degrees and became horizontal cracks. The cracks could have initiated from a single point below the molding. This time the cracks started more toward the center, about 4 inches closer to the driver side than the first cracked windshield. The auto glass technician said that cracked windshields are a common problem with Jeep Wranglers. I have read online forums and a lot of Jeep owners are having this same issue. Also, a CO-worker had the same thing happen to his Jeep. He went through 2 windshields in 3 years. It sounds like a systematic safety issue with Jeep Wranglers. I hope that Jeep will correct this quality deficiency before anyone gets hurt. I called the Jeep customer service number and they told me that they couldnt correct their defective vehicle. If the windshield cracks or spider webs while driving on a highway, this issue could lead to a severe accident and/or death if it hasn't already.

21 Windshield problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/10/2007

In December 2007 I was sitting in my 2006 Jeep Wrangler x in my driveway with my defroster on when about 5 minutes later I heard a popping noise like when you put ice in a glass and it starts to get hot. I look around and noticed a crack in my windshield coming from under the bottom seal. I called my dealership which they told me it was probably a chip that expanded. I brought it down and fought with the service manager that this should have not happened even if there was a chip in the window because every car that has a chip and turns their defroster on should do the same thing. The dealership told me I had to pay for the window and that it might happen again. The insurance I have covered my window and now again I looked the other day and I have another crack on the new window. Not very happy with this car.

22 Windshield problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/15/2007

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The windshield developed a crack approximately three inches long. The contact stated that the crack has extended across the entire windshield. The dealer stated that they were unable to assist. The current mileage was 15,000 and failure mileage was 14,000. Updated 03/06/08. The dealer stated the crack was due to a rock hitting the windshield. The consumer did some research and discovered, the windshield tend to crack due to freezing temperatures. The consumer stated the 2007 models have a window change and the edges are no longer protected with a rubber sealer and thus it seems this may be making the glass excessively fail. Updated.

I bought my 2007 Wrangler jk from herterich food/Jeep in dover , DE . It was brand new, and a few days after buying it, it had rained and my soft top leaked from the forward left and right sides of the soft top right at the corners of where it meets the windshield. I've taken it back to the dealer to have it fixed twice and still the same result. It always leaks regardless of what rain condition. Note this was a brand new vehicle that I bought. The dealer replaced the console mounted shift lever.

26 Windshield problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/29/2006

I have a 2004 Jeep Wrangler and there are several problems but the worst is that neither front belts will retract fast enough to prevent either door from slamming on the shoulder portion. I fear that after repeated door closing on the belts will weaken them to the point of breaking during an impact. The secondary problem is the front windshield is cracking in 2 places.

35 Windshield problem of the 1998 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/01/1998

Each time I am on the highway and anywhere within any vicinity behind a truck and any size of debris is thrown up on my windshield. . . . It causes a break. Each time it has broken. . . . This size of rock or debris has been hardly visible to the eye. The very last time was a tiny piece of asphalt and it left the biggest break of all. There is obviously some type of default in the windshield for it to break so easily. I am curious as if there are any other individuals having the same problems. I have spoken with many individuals with Jeeps and none have expierenced this type of difficulty.
