1 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/13/2007

I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler. I am the original owner and it is the original windshield. On December 13, 2007 the windshield cracked while I was driving. There were two cracks (possibly initiated from one point below the molding). The cracks started on the bottom just off center and went up about two inches and then curved 90 degrees and went horizontally across the windshield. The Jeep warranty book says it covers defects in the glass for one year or 12,000 miles. Since my Jeep was past this point my insurance covered it. They had safelite autoglass put in a new windshield on December 27, 2007. Six days later on January 2, 2008 on my way to work the windshield cracked again while driving. The replacement windshield was less than one week old! this time there were three cracks. One went straight up from the bottom of the windshield to the top, molding to molding. The other two were similar to the first time. They began at the bottom, went up two inches and turned 90 degrees and became horizontal cracks. The cracks could have initiated from a single point below the molding. This time the cracks started more toward the center, about 4 inches closer to the driver side than the first cracked windshield. The auto glass technician said that cracked windshields are a common problem with Jeep Wranglers. I have read online forums and a lot of Jeep owners are having this same issue. Also, a CO-worker had the same thing happen to his Jeep. He went through 2 windshields in 3 years. It sounds like a systematic safety issue with Jeep Wranglers. I hope that Jeep will correct this quality deficiency before anyone gets hurt. I called the Jeep customer service number and they told me that they couldnt correct their defective vehicle. If the windshield cracks or spider webs while driving on a highway, this issue could lead to a severe accident and/or death if it hasn't already.

3 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/01/2007

My wife and I were on a trip in our 2006 Wrangler (with 10,802 miles on it),it was very cold this night and windows were fogging up. We turned on the defroster for the first time and within a minute our windshield cracked. I called our local dealership and was told that my warranty did not cover this item and I had to pay them to replace my window. I later found out it should have been covered. 12 month or 12,000 miles. I think they might have a safety issue wit this so more people need to complain.

4 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/01/2006

Our Wrangler rubicon was purchased new from a Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep dealership in bullhead city during model year, 2006. Since that time, the Jeep has been taken into the dealership to fix the windshield rubber seal that continues to separate from the windshield and the window frame. First it shrank in the lower left corner. This caused wind noise and excessive drafts. They pushed it back into place. Several months later, the entire gasket separated and fell onto the dash! good vista glass came to our home checked the seal and told us it was defective and the whole rubber gasket would have to be replaced. It was. Now this week, while the Jeep just sat in our driveway, we discovered the entire rubber seal again hanging from the window frame above the dashboard. This makes driving the Jeep to get it repaired dangerous. As I type this, good vista glass again is placing a new gasket into place. I am not completely sure about the integrity of the windshield when this continues to happen but at the very least, there is a danger of this gasket falling into my view and/or lap while driving. My vehicle history is important too. I, like a lot of 4 x 4 owners, do not even take the Jeep off road. I "baby" the vehicle and keep in immaculate condition. Also, all of the folks I have dealt with at swanty's Jeep and good vista glass have been polite and helpful. Now, I was told by the good vista glass technician yesterday, 10/01/06 that this windshield gasket separation is a continuing problem with Jeeps. Maybe a recall should be in order? all documentation has been retained. Thank you, john l jenkins fort mohave, az.

5 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/05/2004

I have a 2004 Jeep Wrangler. Two weeks after purchasing the Jeep I noticed air coming in through the rear window. While driving the back window on the hardtop will pop open, enough to let air, water, and other debris into the vehicle. The window will open until it touches the spare tire, therefore prohibiting the use of the rear windshield wiper. My concern is exhaust entering the rear of the vehicle and harming occupants. I have take it to the dealer numerous time throughout this past year (to encounter rude and unknowledgeable service men) only for them to tell me they do not know how to fix it and it cant be fixed. This past week the said they fixed it, however the problem still occurs.

6 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/11/2003

I driving my Jeep and was hit on the drivers side by a mercedes that was moving 35mph. I watch the whole scene coming through my front soft top glass window. My face hit the soft top window and broke my nose pretty bad according to dr. Charles shaffer (my surgieon). By the way the soft top and upper door halfs were the factory equipped "willy's edition" model specific which are supplied to dailmer Chrysler by hertz. Blood was everywhere and took 3 hours to completely stop the bleeding. I was wearing my seat belt by the way. I had to have surgery to my nose and several follow up sessions. I feel very lucky that it was a mercedes that hit me because they are able to crush very well. His vehicle was totaled and had neck pain and I drove home with a broke nose, bent rear axle shaft (bend was outside of the axle bearing, which makes one of my rear brakes useless), damaged factory rocker panel (willy's edition model specific), damaged body, rear fender flare, I also had to straighten and reweld the body mount that tore off the frame( there are 3 body mounting points that are clearly visible between the 2 drivers side wheels, the mount closest to the rear tire was torn off the frame) please contact me if you would like to ask me more questions at (704) 506-4592.
