4 Frame And Members problem of the 2001 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/15/2012

Major frame rot: we are the original owners of this vehicle and always maintained it per the schedule. I bought the Jeep to my mechanic for some routine maintenance. When he removed the drivers side rear wheel he noticed serious frame rot. He told me the Jeep is no longer safe to drive and not worth putting any more money into. When I got home, I scratched the rust with my fingernail and was easily able to poke my finger right through the frame. A quick internet search revealed the frame rot is a very common design flaw for the Wrangler tj series. Apparently moisture, road debris, etc. Is allowed to enter the interior of the frame but nothing in the design allows for its exit. Since this creates a condition that allows the frame to rot from the inside-out, by the time it is discovered it is typically too late. Many companies now manufacture special frame pieces to repair the damage if you are one of the lucky ones who are made aware of what to look for before too much damage has been done. I sincerely hope Jeep will treat this defect the way Toyota did with the tacoma in 2008-2009!.

6 Frame And Members problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/11/2010

When driving my 2007 4-door Jeep Wrangler on the interstate 4 weeks ago I noticed that when I hit a hole in the road or a bump the entire vehicle shook, causing the steering wheel to shake back and forth causing me to almost skip lanes and almost hit a semi truck in the next lane. The next day I called the dealership that I purchased this vehicle from used about 5 months ago (10,000 miles ago). I have made 3 trips to the dealership in the past 4 weeks and the shaking has become worse. The last 2 days while driving to and from work, I literally thought that the right front tire was going to come off or that the frame was going to brake! I pulled off of the interstate many times on my 30 mile trip and didn't drive over 40mph. I asked the mechanic at the dealership to drive the Jeep with me on the interstate today. He said that he has no idea what is wrong but it felt like the entire frame is violently shaking. I feel very unsafe driving this vehicle as I am unable to control it when this occurs. I should mention 2 more things. . . 1. This only occurs when one side of the vehicle hits a bump, not when both tires hit at the same time, like hitting a pot hole with left tire. 2. Many owners of this exact make and model are having the same issue. I have been looking on-line and there are multiple site with hundreds of people who, despite spending a lot of money replacing part after part continue to have this safety issue. I have received a recall notice about the lack of temperature control of the cooling system but Chrysler has not addressed this problem and they should. Someone is going to die from this design flaw and it must be addressed soon. I don't know what to do. I have to travel the interstate to get to work.

7 Frame And Members problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

Have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler with 24,000 miles which is experiencing front wheel shaking at about 40-45 mph and when braking. Alignment, tires, etc. Are good with no aftermarket modifications done to suspension. This appears to be a very common problem with Wranglers and is even called and known as a "death wobble. " no crashes, but dealer will charge to investigate and fix. As mentioned, this appears to be a very common problem with Wranglers, therefore, isn't it a manufacturing flaw that Jeep needs to take responsibility for?.

9 Frame And Members problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/11/2008

Jeep shakes violently when a bump is hit or road is uneven. The problem started about 2 months after purchasing the used vehicle. The problem did not show itself during the test drive but after investigating through the internet their are several Jeep Wrangler owners with the "deathwobble" problem. I clicked on your link provided by a local television news station wsoc channel 9 in charlotte, nc after they covered a story about another Chrysler vehicle. I implore you to do what is right and ask Chrysler to recall or repair, at their expense, my vehicle and other vehicles affected by this defect. An extended warranty was purchased from the dealership, crossroads Ford p&a code 00994, and we were told at the time of purchase Chrysler's warranty was still valid. After taking it back to the dealer several times and even taking it to the Jeep dealership no one will accept accountability. We have no other choice but to drive it and fear for the life of our son.

10 Frame And Members problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/01/2007

Hello, I bought a new 2007 Jeep Wrangler and have been having what the industry calls the "death wobble" since the vehicle was new and it is now in for the 4th repair attempt and dealership is telling me that there is nothing they can do to fix it and that they can't replicate the problem this time, although they have now repaired it 3 times now over the last 2 years and were able to replicate the problem each of the other times. Now my new vehicle warranty is within 200 miles of expiring now and I have a broken car that is in no way safe to drive. I will be driving to the mountains to ski this weekend in a snow storm so it should be scary as this is my only car. A simple search for my model year Jeep online and death wobble will return an unlimited amount of information. Obviously I am not the only consumer with this complaint. Can you please advise whom I should contact to address this matter? I don't want to die or kill anyone. The "death wobble" occurs when I encounter a bump in the road at speeds over ~40mph and must be slowed to a near stop to make it quit. I can't seem to get anyone at Chrysler to help me and the dealers can't fix it, what do I do?.

11 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/11/2003

I driving my Jeep and was hit on the drivers side by a mercedes that was moving 35mph. I watch the whole scene coming through my front soft top glass window. My face hit the soft top window and broke my nose pretty bad according to dr. Charles shaffer (my surgieon). By the way the soft top and upper door halfs were the factory equipped "willy's edition" model specific which are supplied to dailmer Chrysler by hertz. Blood was everywhere and took 3 hours to completely stop the bleeding. I was wearing my seat belt by the way. I had to have surgery to my nose and several follow up sessions. I feel very lucky that it was a mercedes that hit me because they are able to crush very well. His vehicle was totaled and had neck pain and I drove home with a broke nose, bent rear axle shaft (bend was outside of the axle bearing, which makes one of my rear brakes useless), damaged factory rocker panel (willy's edition model specific), damaged body, rear fender flare, I also had to straighten and reweld the body mount that tore off the frame( there are 3 body mounting points that are clearly visible between the 2 drivers side wheels, the mount closest to the rear tire was torn off the frame) please contact me if you would like to ask me more questions at (704) 506-4592.

12 Frame And Members problem of the 2000 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/28/2001

I have documented four trips to the dealer to fix water leaking into the passenger compartment. There are actually two other times that I have taken the vehicle to the dealership for the same problem, but, since it was a return trip, they did not provide documentation from the "dealer agent" that performed the work. On my fourth & fifth trip, I demanded write-ups. I have spoken with a Chrysler factory rep who refuses to do anything, since on the fifth trip, the "dealer agent" could not find the problem. The factory rep did subsequently offer an extended warranty, but has not returned my calls. I have found the water leak on my own and on my sixth visit to the dealer, I demanded that the body shop manager verify the leaks. He did, and I received a "work order" from him. I have not taken it back a sixth time to be repaired. I am concerned that there may be electrical or other problems that may arise due to the leakage. On the other hand, if I get it fixed again and it leaks again, will there be another problem. While I have found the conditions where it leaks in, I do not know where or how it travels inside the vehicle and thus do not know what damages may have already occurred, but have not surfaced. I have documented 3-28-01 as the date of failure since the earliest document that I have dated from the dealer is 3-30-01. I believe the original failure was earlier. The mileage is close for that date.

14 Frame And Members problem of the 2001 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/25/2000

Why wait till an accident and or death occurs because of water damage to truck. They cant fix the problem with a factory gasket, having to plaster silicone with a new gasket is not the answer. A new Jeep relacement is in order. I asked the help desk at daimler Chrysler if in fact he would accept the new Jeep after the dealer butchered the truck, replaced the gaskets and now is resorting to plaster the entire area with silicone, his reply was no way, I then asked him why do you think I am any different. I purchased a brand new vihicle not a used one. How long before the silicone cracks, what about water damage to the wiring harness, ie; the head lights, brake lights cruise control, any of a number of things could cause me to crash and or kill myself and or others ? I ask you is this fair?, I spent over $26,000 dollars so I would not have any problems.

16 Frame And Members problem of the 2000 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/02/1999

New transmission at 479 miles plus several other repairs. Speedometer off 8 miles per hour. This problem still has not been fixed. Ding in door post between windshield and driver's door on delivery. Wind noise above passenger door frame. Leaks around driver and back door seals. Oil gallery plug had to be replaced at 3,149 miles. Had to remove transmission and transfer case. Jeep was in shop for a total of 32 days in order to have all work accomplished. New transmission still not working correctly. Transmission jumps out of first gear sometimes when vehicle is moving forward. New transmission was installed, but problem of clunking sound during gear change and kicking out of gear is not solved. Was told by agency shop that Chrysler corporation had a new manfacturer for 2000 Jeep transmissions and the noise was just part of the lighter transmisson. Transmission still is noisy and sounds dry all the time. We are afraid to dirve the vehicle as we don't really have faith the transmission will hold up and we will be in trouble at some point in traffic.
