3 Front Suspension problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/03/2011

Driving home on the highway at about 60-65 mph around a small bend I hit an uneven part in the road the front end starting shaking violently out of control I almost could not hold the wheel. I slammed on the breaks and the shaking didn't stop until I can to a complete stop. This was also in a lot of traffic. Another mile down the road the same thing happened again. I thought I was going to lose control and crash into the wall. The entire front end was bouncing up and down the wheel vibrating so much it was hard to hold onto. Again with people driving home in rush hour I had to slam on the break in the middle of the road come to a complete stop before this violent shaking would stop. Again I thought I was going to crash.

4 Front Suspension problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

While entering highway at 60 mph, while merging I crossed over a roadway lane seam which seemed to actuate a harmonic vibration in the front suspention which increased to a dangerous uncontrollable and violent shaking making control of the vehicle extremely difficult. This shaking continued while I slowed and crossed 2 lanes of traffic to the shoulder and stopped only after I came to a full stop. Inspected front suspention for damage and saw none. I continued on my trip with no other incident. This condition is inherent in Wranglers and often referred to in Jeep message boards as the "wrangler death wobble". Dealer rotated and rebalanced tires and installed new steering damper in hopes that might solve the issue. The potential for causing an accident is very real.

7 Front Suspension problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/15/2011

In 208 I purchased a 2007 Jeep Wrangler, with 11,000 miles, after driving only 1,000. Miles my front end starting wobbeling violentley, returned to dealer and they stated my tires needed to be road forced balance, within 3 months while driving to work going about 45mph the truck front end did the know death wobblle, returned to the dealer only to be told my tires were cupped, purchased new tires, sseem to eliviate the problem, only for it to happen several more times and two additional set of tires. I am now drivng on a set of tires that is less than a year old, and haing the same issues, was on the interstate last week driving about 70mph when out of nowhere my front end started to wobble out of control, I did mangage to slow down enough but was shifted into another lane, could not control the steering, was lucky the interstate was not busy, this could of resulted in a major accident. I dont undersand why a recall has not been issued on the suspension, the 2010-2011 Jeeps have had one so obviously Chrysler is aware there is a problem with the front end suspension. This will be a costly repair,so many different possible solutions but none are a guarantee, seem to me Chrysler needs to step up and take responsibility for the faulty design before someone gets killed.

12 Front Suspension problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/20/2011

2009 Jeep Wrangler x-unlimited (completely stock) with 20k miles. This is a notorious problem that has been labeled the "death wobble" by many other Jeep owners after a simple google search, as well as horrific youtube videos. At highway speeds, a pot hole or bridge joint initiates a horrific wobble in the front end. Countless incidents over the last 3k miles where the steering wheel begins jerking left and right and tires begin hopping on the road. The wobble forces you to have to immediately slow down as low as 30 mph or even almost stop to eliminate the wobble. Although we have not been involved in an accident due to the wobble, it is extremely likely to happen someday. Slowing or stopping suddenly on a three lane highway when other motorists are not anticipating any need to stop or slow will result in a rear end collision. If unable to safely slow down, continuing driving with the wobble will likely result in loss of control of the vehicle. Extensive research on this topic concluded that there is no known fix. Many have experienced temporary improvement by changing various front end components but the wobble returns. A Jeep engineer stated "it is not a Jeep issue it is more of an issue related to the fundamental architecture of a solid front axle suspension systems". A very common problem, onset at 17k miles on our Jeep and as low as 6k miles on other Jeeps, is a Jeep problem. Based on accounts of many other owners, dealing with a Jeep dealership is a very long process of many expensive repairs, with no end result and the problem still exists. This is a serious problem that I feel needs the attention of a higher entity before the number of property damage or worse, personal injury accidents climb as a result of this 'non-Jeep' problem.

13 Front Suspension problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/24/2011

I have recently been experiencing the "death wobble" that a lot of Jeeps have experienced. I have not had time to take it into the dealership to get repaired but this is the 2nd 4dr Jeep Wrangler that I have experienced this in. The first Jeep was my fathers 2007 and his ended up being repaired by replacing the steering stabilizer. My Jeep recently has been doing this whenever I am on the highway going over 60 mph. The steering wheel turns back and fourth violently and the whole front end of the Jeep shakes so hard I feel like I can hardly control it. I have to reduce my speed to about 35 mph for it to finally recover, which is not an easy task on a busy highway. My wife has become frightful to drive the vehicle and I am not that comfortable myself since it is certainly lack of control of a massive amount of weight at such a high speed. This is defiantly a safety concern and it will be awful when someone’s life will be the cost to have this brought to attention.

The failure mileage was 54,000.

15 Front Suspension problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/09/2011

I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited with 10,500 miles. I have made no modifications to the vehicle. Approximately 3 weeks ago, after just having the Jeep serviced (including rotation of tires) at my Jeep dealer, during a two hour drive I twice experienced violent wobbling from side to side, making it very difficult to control the vehicle. I took the car back to the dealership. The dealership replaced parts of the front suspension. My son then took the Jeep out for a short trip, and once again experienced the problem. I then researched the problem on the web. Numerous sites report the problem, referred to as "death wobble". Most of the sites report the problem as being very serious, with the Jeep shaking violently from side to side -- usually brought on by one of the front tires encountering a bump in the road. Multiple persons have described the problem as being very dangerous, with the vehicle being very difficult to control.

16 Front Suspension problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/19/2011

2009 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x 4 door 4x4 stock: experienced "death wobble" while traveling anywhere between 40-65 mph front end shakes violently especially when hitting small or large bumps or pot holes. Has happened for the past 10,000 miles and the car has just under 30k now. Shaking was so violent that vehicle had to be brought to a completed stop even in the lane of travel on the highway. Very dangerous as a car slammed on its brakes behind me on the left lane of the NJ garden state parkway nearly setting off a chain reaction accident. Steering damper replaced by dealer claiming that should fix the problem. After picking the vehicle up it happened again. Next time the dealer replaced ruined ball bearings due to the death wobble and realigned & wheels balanced and rotated. A few days later the vehicle has the same problem. My wife is afraid to drive the car. Please don't wait until someone is hurt or dies to intervene. Clearly this is a big problem for these Jeeps, just google and you will see many complaints not formally lodged here! manufacture needs to come out with a viable resolution as the dealers seem stumped.

18 Front Suspension problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/11/2011

2007 Jeep Wrangler 2dr. 4x4. . Approx mileage 65,000 miles. While driving a speed of 50-55 mph the vehicle encounters a bump in the road, or an uneven spot, a violent shaking begins and is uncorrectable until the vehicle is brought to a near complete stop. The dealership calls this the "death wobble". This has gone on for approximately 1 years whenever I hit a bump in the road driving anywhere from 35 mph and over. The most recent occurrence was the worst, it happened at a higher speed (approx. 65 mph) and resulted in a near collision/rollover. This is unacceptable and needs to be addressed by chysler Jeep ASAP. This is a major safety concern and potential loss of life issue.

19 Front Suspension problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/10/2011

Hitting a uneven patch of road or a solid bump causes the front end to shim to the point that the whole vehicle jerks and the steering wheel feels like it is going to pull out of your hands. Happens at least 1-3 times a week. Called Jeep they are aware of the issue and said it is due to the way the front end is designed and wear on the bushings. They fixed the issue in the 2010 with a heavy duty front end bar and I was told by the service center at a dealer in west palm beach florida that "until a recall is placed I would have to pay out of pocket to fix this issue as the vehicle is out of warranty at this point in time".

20 Front Suspension problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/09/2011

I own a 2007 Jeep Wrangler rubicon. It has begun to experience what is known on user forums as a death wobble. When driving at 40mph + speeds, if the tires hit a fairly large bump, the entire front end shakes violently, causing the steering wheel to whip left and right. Because of the shaking, shuddering and whipping of the steering wheel, loss of control becomes iminent and sudden braking is the only option left to the driver attempting to regain control of the vehicle. This has occurred several times despite repeated inspections.

33 Front Suspension problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

My 2008 Jeep Wrangler has had many issues. One issue that seems to be an extreme safety concern is what people have come to call "the death wobble". I took my Jeep in about a year ago to have this issue addressed and they told me that it was my "bump steer and the steering dampner". So the dealer replaced it and it seemed to be fine up until about a month ago. "the death wobble" occurs when you are travelling at speed of 45mph and up. What happens is that if you hit a bump in the road or a pot hole, your Jeep goes into an uncontrollable wobble and shakes violently. You almost have to come to a complete stop to make the wobble subside. This is a huge safety issue because it can causes you to wobble into another car, go off the road at high speeds, and even cause a rear end collision because you are slamming on your breaks to stop the wobble. After reading up on this issue, this "the death wobble" is a growing occurrence among Jeep drivers, and there doesn't seem to be a fix for it.

34 Front Suspension problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/29/2010

While driving 50 to 70 mph if the vehicle hits any small bump in the road it then begins to shake violently. There is a term given by Jeep owners that have this year Jeep called the "death wobble. " there are many of discussion groups online that talk about it and there is even footage on youtube. The only way to stop the wobble is to stop the vehicle as quickly as you can. Not safe at all at highway speeds. Why is there no recall on this issue? general motors was saved by the tax payers of the u. S. They should not be allowed to put vehicles that are unsafe on u. S. Highways. I only hope no one has been seriously hurt or killed from this issue. My Jeep is all stock from the factory. I have had no work or modifications done to it. There is no reason why Jeep owners that pay $24,000 or more for their Jeep to pay over $1000 to fix a safety issue that gm is responsible for. I have had a few recall on my Jeep for minor issues and had them fixed. This is a major issue.

1) I purchased a 2007 Jeep Wrangler x with 8,650 miles on the vehicle in 2008, kept the vehicle as it was, and it now has 43,000 miles. There were no events leading up to the failure other than standard safe driving practices. 2) the failure is commonly referred to as "death wobble" and is well documented on various websites. The "death wobble" occurs anytime the vehicle reaches 50 mph, and will continue as the speed rises or falls. 3) the problem has not been corrected in my Jeep yet, it is being taken in to a private mechanic to be fixed. I have attempted to gain assistance from Jeep (to include writing a letter to the president of Jeep) with an appalling and insulting response. 3).
