While driving at 60 mph over s suspension joint on a bridge, the vehicle started shaking violently and was unable to control vehicle until the speed dropped to 35 mph. I have already had the recall done to the vehicle to replace the stabilizer bar, and the problem is still continuing to occur any time I travel over an expansion joint or even a bump in the roadway.

In December, on two different occasions, I experienced what I have come to find out is known as the death wobble in my new Wrangler jl. After going over a series of small bumps on a highway at 65-70mph, my Jeep went into a violent shaking episode. I actually thought one of the wheels was coming off. The dealership said that this could be repaired by replacing the stabilizer bar with a heavier duty one. They did the repair. On Friday of last week, I had 6 episodes of the death wobble in one day. The dealer is taking my Jeep back in tomorrow to look at it again. This might be the scariest thing I have experienced in my 30+ years of driving.
This vehicle has "death wobble" as it has been called. When driving at highway speeds and hitting a bump, bridge joint, or imperfection in the road, the front end violently shakes. If loosen grip on wheel it gets worse. It will continue for miles shaking the vehicle excessively. Only way to stop the shaking is to slow to about 50 mph. Started at about 12, 400 miles. Took to shop and their guy called it death wobble. The more you drive the worse it gets, and in Nov about 14th or so they had me come in and put a aftermarket hd steering stabilizer on it. It worked for about 1500 miles then the wobble returned. I reported it and on the 17th Dec they had me come in and put factory stabilizer bar on and toed in my front alignment. That worked for two days. Wobble came back and I reported it. The more I drive the worse it gets. I went to shop on 31 Dec to see what we are doing. They said they would get back to me. Problem is not stabilizers and toe alignment. Geometric and something is wearing out causing all this. The effectiveness of stabilizers are lasting less each time. Band aid for the bigger issue. I have owned 18 Jeeps and have 4 currently, all Wrangler/tj/cj. None have done this or do this. Modified or not. And this new 2018 jl is stock.

While driving the posted speed limits, on any street, I am constantly fighting with the steering wheel jerks out of my hands, even though I had several professionals look at my tires, wheels, suspension components, tie rods, stabilizer bar, steering dampener, ball joints, etc. My Jeep has this massive death wabble, where I constantly have to fight the steering wheel! on 15+ different times (it does not matter if I am driving on a hwy 70mph, secondary st's 40mph, 5-lane st's at 50mph, or while driving in a subdivision at 25mph), just trying to turn my Jeep becomes a huge challenge, even on a good day! I believe that my electric power steering is also defective too, the steering wheel violently jerks me into oncoming traffic, & into others lanes without any warnings! I finally contacted synergy manufacturing who told me that all of the steering components on the jl's are nothing but cheap garbage, that all needs to be replaced! they have a replacement kit, which fixes the problems, for less than $1,200! which sounds like a bargain, if it means that my family remains safe, compared to being killed in yet another fca death trap! also, one's fire retardant blanket (under the hood), is falling apart! I only have 1,800 original miles on it, its never even been off road yet! I've gone to 7 different Jeep dealers, & nobody has any new replacement parts, & all of their customers need to get in line before they shall even look at my Jeep! I would expect a flawless running & driving Jeep jl Wrangler unlimited rubicon, after spending well over $60,000!!! can you please help me? all one has to do, is search any of the Jeep jl forums, search youtube, e. G. , & one shall see thousands of exactly the same complaints! never again fca, you lost me as a customer, its a miracle that my family & I aren't dead!!!.
I own a 2008 Jeep Wrangler that has been experiencing the 'death wobble' more frequently. The cause for concern first happened (2) years ago after hitting a pothole on the highway. I took it in for inspection and maintenance. The mechanic told me it was a loose steering stabilizer bar. About a year or so after the repair, my Wrangler has been experiencing the 'death wobble' more frequently. It seems to happen when I'm driving on the interstate and hit some significant bump or pothole. I have to slow down to roughly 40 mph for the violent shaking to stop. Then, I can accelerate back to normal speed. It can be real dangerous when other people are close behind me and I'm forced to apply the brakes to drop my speed by roughly 30 mph. I don't have the money to keep taking the Wrangler in for more repairs, especially one that seems to happen periodically. Thoughts?.

The problem started late February 2014. I took my Jeep to the dealership and explained my problem in great detail and they were aware of the this problem, the death wobble. So they called me later and said it's fixed. Which it wasn't I pulled out and only a few minutes later it happened so I went back and asked them if they bothered to test drive to see if it was actually fixed and they said no. This blew my mind especially since it's dangerous. So after they put on a new stabilizer bar I took it to a new place since that was the 4th bad experience I've had with that dealership. The back up place started their inspection of problem and noticed the stabilizer was faulty and he started with replacing that again. I got the Jeep back to only find it was still not fixed. I've taken the Jeep back 5 times to have the following items replaced in this order: stabilizer bar/wheel alignment and tire rotation, stabilizer bar again, all new shocks, steering damper/tie rod ends, and track bar. $2000 worth of work and it is still not fixed. Now I'm at a point where I just don't know what to do. The mechanic is stumped and replaced the entire suspension system. I feel like this vehicle is extremely dangerous to drive so now I'm stuck with a lemon or sell to someone else which is not right either. I'm blown away this is a well documented problem and that the manufacturer has done nothing to remedy issue. This has caused me to almost of been run over by 70mph semis, run two other cars off the road and it's only a matter of time before I get hurt or killed or someone else does.

I was traveling at about 45 mph on open road when the vehicle shook so bad I pulled off the road, because I had trouble hanging on to the wheel. I looked this up and it was called a death wobble. I bought the vehicle used in 2013 after trading in a 1999 Wrangler that I never had such a problem with. I have replaced the stabilizer bar and stabilizer link bushings, track bar and bushings and still get a wobble but not as bad. There is certainly something wrong but no one is admitting it. Why does it take someone getting seriously injured or killed to get the problem recognized and fixed.

I purchased the Wrangler in about October of 2009. Since then, the fuel tank over-spills when it is filled at the gas pumps. It caused damage to the paint and to the plastic wheel guard. Of greater concern is death wobble. The front end violently shakes at highway speeds from time to time. The vehicle is hard to control. I made attempts in 2013 and 2014 to fix it, only to have the problem return. In 2013 the steering damper and steering stabilizer bar was replaced. In 2014, the tires were replaced and aligned. The problem returned this year, and is at its worst.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler sahara. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle started to shake violently. The vehicle became uncontrollable whenever the contact drove over any uneven road surface or a road bump. The failure occurred until there was a significant reduction in speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the steering stabilizer bar and the steel power steering lines that were cracked however, the vehicle continued to shake violently. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance for the failure. The failure mileage was 36,900 and the current mileage was 37,000. Kmj.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised him that the front stabilizer bar was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred several months later. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000. The current mileage was approximately 117,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the front end wobbled violently. The vehicle was stopped, shutdown, and restarted then operated as designed. On a later date while driving 70 mph, the failure recurred. The dealer was notified and informed the contact that the problem could have been due to low tire pressure, a bent rim, or a stabilizer bar. The contact assured them that it was none of those issues. The manufacturer had not been notified. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 25,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. The contact was traveling 40-45 mph when the front end started to shake. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 72,000.
Death wobble!!!! started about Dec 2011 around speeds of 55-60 mph. Car will suddenly start to violently shake. When viewing from behind in another car it appears as if the wheels may come off. I have replaced the shocks, struts, stabilizer bar, track bar, springs, spacers, calipers, hubs, new tires, balance and rotate tire every 5000-6000 miles, new front brakes, new back brakes, two rear alignments, 3 front alignments, and rotors, I death wobble has gone from bad to dangerously worse. My Wrangler is a factory right hand drive Jeep that I use to deliver mail. I was using as my primary car as well. I must drive 25 miles to work via interstate and then another 65 miles on my route. The car consistently shakes when I hit speeds of 45 mph or higher. A bump in the road will trigger the wobble as well. I spoke to two different Jeep dealerships today and was told that there is no solution to my problem. I have been to at least 6 different mechanic shops, one off road shop, and two different alignment shops. I was told that I could try replacing the gear box ($899. 99) and also try replacing my rims! if the maker of my vehicle has no idea on what or how to fix it. . . . . . . . Then who will? I would like to resolve my death wobble. I am extremely annoyed! I no longer feel safe driving my car to and from work and when it rains I am a nervous wreck just knowing I will have to drive my Jeep on the interstate. Sadly its gotten to the point that I will not allow any of my kids in this vehicle. I end up having to leave my Jeep at work in another town if my husband isn't able to drive it to and from work for me. I am willing to fix the problem. . . . . . . If Jeep would just let me know what that is!!!! in good conscious I could never sell and stick someone else with this problem/headache!! also, when I fill my Jeep up with gas, it overflows splashing gas everywhere!.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact drove over a road bump when the front end of the vehicle began to shake vigorously. While driving @ approximately 55mph on rt 50 near rt 28 in fairfax CO va I felt a slight vibration in the front end which immediately became a violent vibration to the point I had trouble steering the vehicle while applying the brakes to slow down and nearly crashed. I pulled off to the side of the road and got out to inspect the vehicle, fully expecting to find a flat tire or worse, thinking maybe a tire actually fell off. I found nothing wrong which was perplexing. I continued on my way with no further incident that day. Since that day I've had at least five more incidents of the same nature with varying degrees of near misses regarding an accident. It's frightening and clearly something is wrong with the vehicle. I've researched the issue and it's apparent the problem is widely know as the "death wobble" with many suggested fixes. The dealer with whom I have my Jeep serviced has acknowledged hearing about a front end shimmy but no death wobble (fairoaks Chrysler, Dodge Jeep). They suggest replacing the front stabilizer bar with a "heavy duty" one and said it will fix the issue ($660. 00). Ironically, the "heavy duty" stabilizer appears to be stock on models beg. With the 2010 model year or at a minimum they have changed the configuration and placement of the stabilizer which indicates to me they (Chrysler/Jeep) clearly recognized there is a serious issue with the safety of the vehicle. I implore you to investigate this most serious defect before someone is killed because of this issue.
I own a 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara. Two big complaints. First, with 51,000 my Jeep has started to exhibit what is commonly called the "death wobble", apparently now an infamous reality among Jeep owners up to the 2010 models (which I am told, Jeep corrected with a stabilizer bar redesign). 45 mph on smooth roads and all of the sudden the front end starts jumping uncontrollably, and the only way to get control is to slam on the brakes. I have rebalanced and then replaced the tires, and have had the front suspension checked -- everything seems to be in order, and no mechanic can figure out the true "fix". I want to know why nhsta has not issued a recall or service notice on an issue that is so dangerous? the consistency of complaints about the design error in the steering and front end of these vehicles is overwhelming. Second issue is that my gas tank does not allow for the auto-cut-off for gas pump operations -- whenever I fill up the tank, the gas rushes up the tank line with apparently no baffling and comes pouring out. And no, I am not an idiot who is overfilling the tank -- whether the pump is on automatic fill, or I do it carefully manually, the same thing happens -- the tank suddenly fills and shoots gas out of the filler cap area. There is something definitely wrong here. I did see that there has been a prior investigation on a similar complaint for these vehicles, and that nhsta determined not to pursue a recall. I think the issue needs to get revisited. The lame Dodge that nhsta believed that many complaints on this issue were "internet driven" sounds feckless. Both of these issues are safety concers - especially the death wobble issue -- and need regulatory intervention in order to protect consumers like me. Thank you.
I am writing to you because I do not know where else to go with this. Something needs to be done by Chrysler and something fast before something serious happens to someone. I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4 door sahara and I am experiencing with it what is called the "death wobble", if you were to search about this on the internet, you will see I am not the only one that this is happening to. I have called the dealership where I got the Jeep and automatically they tell me that I need to have my stabilizer bar replaced and that it would cost me $250. I will tell you by all the complaints that I have seen on the internet that will not fix the problem. I do not have the money to sink into this Jeep for something that they say is going to fix it and it does not. What I experience when I hit a bump going about 50 is a violent shaking in the front end of my Jeep to the point that I have to slow down to almost 20 mph to get it under control. I have also experienced it coming down a hill and when I put the brake on and the violent shaking happens again, but when I put the brake on to slow down it does it worse. I am very scared to drive my Jeep and I am afraid for my family and our lives in this Jeep, when I use to love it. If this is a steering stabilizer problem then I think that Chrysler needs to take responsibility for this. I am sure if you ran a story about this, tons of people will come forward with the same thing. My mother in law has a 2009 Jeep Wrangler 4 door and the same thing is happening to hers. She has had new tires put on it, balanced, and an alignment. She has had it to the dealer twice and they tell her nothing is wrong with the Jeep. My friend also has 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4 door and hers does it too. I am so tired of having a vehicle that I pay good money for and I am afraid to drive it. Search for "death wobble Jeep" and you will see.
Defect is called "death wobble" in variious Jeep Wrangler years and models. Mine is a 2007 Wrangler x unlimited. I was told by dealer the problem was mud impaction around and inside of wheels. Removing all mud did not fix problem. Worsened problem after cleaning. Replaced front stabilizer bar3 weeks ago. Problem continues. . . Which is:while driving on a rough road or hitting a bump or even modestly shallow pothole, front end and steering begins shaking, wobbling, quaking to point of vehicle being completely out of control and is almost if not completely impossible to control which is managed by braking to complete halt. Have narrowly averted collisions and complete vehicle control several times in the last 3 months. Really afraid to drive Jeep, nor can I ethically or effectively sell vehicle without notifying "buyer" or this serious, bodily and life threatening defect. Vehicle is worthless because of this danger.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4-dr4x4. While driving approximately between 60-65 mph, the front end of the vehicle began to shake violently. The contact reduced speed and came to a stop. The vehicle resumed in operation without the vibration. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the stabilizer bar and steering damper were replaced. The failure occurred after the repair and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The technician informed that a part was ordered and did not provide additional any information pertaining to the repair. The contact stated the vehicle had been at the dealer for one month and currently remained there until repaired. The failure was approximately 20,000.
Uncontrollable shaking vibrating loss of steering. . . . . Death wobble till stopped and pulled over Jeep has serviced it 3x and acting like im crazy replaced stabilizer bar and dampener only help for few weeks im afraid to drive and can not afford another car it has 30000 miles stock everything and no off roading ever.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. While driving at 65 mph, the contact drove over a bump in the road and the vehicle began to shake violently. The dealer advised steering stabilizer was defective. The stabilizer was replaced. The current and failure mileages were 43,000.
Uncontrolled steering, bad stabilizer bar, need to replace the stabilizer bar or will lose control of the vehicle on rough patch of road.
Driving Wrangler at 50 mph when the front end began to shake violently. This was very traumatic, I had to pull off the road. When I searched the internet, I found that this has been a recurring problem among Jeep owners. Dealership didn't seem to know about problem. Dealer stated that the steering damper and stabilizer bar went bad. Of course these items were not covered by warranty. Jeep needs to acknowledge problem and fix it. Someone is going to die from this. Please google "death wobble"happened to my wife and children. Will not take kids in this vehicle.
Driving a rental Jeep in kauai, hit a small bump in road - the Jeep went into a violent shimmy - would not stop until the vehicle came to a complete stop - then it behaved normal - this happened about 2 times on the 3rd day of the rental period and another 5 times over the 8 day rental period - should have requested a new Jeep the first time it happened - the last day it happened 3 times on the way to the airport - my wife and kids were extremely upset - lost control of vehicle and almost was in a head on collision - ended up parking on the side of the road and called a taxi - I understand this is a common problem in Jeeps - someone is going to get killed if Jeep does not figure out what is going on and how to fix this problem -.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the front end of the vehicle began to shake violently. When the failure would occur, the contact would slightly lose control of the vehicle. The contact applied the brakes and the vehicle decelerated as normal. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic where the mechanic advised that the stabilizer bar and steering dampener were faulty and needed to be replaced. After replacing the steering dampener and stabilizer bar, the vehicle continued to shake when driving at higher speeds. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer and the dealer advised that the tires needed to be replaced. The contact stated there was nothing wrong with the tires. The failure mileage was 55,000.
I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler (under warranty for about 1 more week) that has only been used to drive to work and back, and when I hit a bump, the front end shakes uncontrollably, and I feel as if I will lose control. I took it back and forth between a tire place and the Jeep dealership several times. The dealership said I needed tires but the tire place says I don't and since I am under warranty that I should take it back to the dealership. I had the tires rotated and balanced, and the rotors turned, but it still shakes. The dealership kept telling me it was fine, but on one of my trips to the dealership, the mechanic said to me, "OH, you are the one with the 'death wobble'. " the dealership decided it needed a new stabilizer bar and tried to sell me a more expensive one, but I insisted with the warranty they should replace it with a warranted part, they did and found a broken bushing and replaced it, but it still wobbles. I took it to another dealership that looked up the history of my car and said that the other place replaced everything they would and sent me home in tears. It wobbled all the way home. I am scared to drive more than 40 miles an hour and can't get anyone to help with this. I feel that I am getting the "run around" because I am a girl. It is not safe for others or me to have this vehicle on the road.

Uncontrollable handling ( in the front end) when going an excess speed of 45 miles or more and hit any kind /size bump in road. Found out it was the stabilizer bar. When I first took my car in (months ago) they told me ( Chrysler) it was my rotors. Didn't understand how my rotors could do that since I wasn't braking at the time the shaking was happening. I ended up taking it to a mechanic and they figured out what it was. The guys at Chrysler have a nickname for it; "sudden death". Not once did I get a recall letter about this problem. They must of been worried about it because it only took them about 2 hours to fix it. They went and bought an after market stabilizer bar. I have had oil changes from the same place that have taken longer. I had the car for about a year when I first noticed the shaking but I heard about other Wranglers having the same problem. Someone needs to let other Jeep owners about this problem . It's very dangerous.
While driving 55 mph vehicle suddenly lost steering control. Consumer had to slam on brakes to regain steering control. Vehicle was taken to a repair shop, and mechanic determined that the link on the stabilizer bar broke. The dealer was not notified. The consumer feels that the connecting link is not sturdy enough and is weak due to it's size.

I bought my 1997 Jeep Wrangler in June, 2002 from a used car dealer in baltimore, MD with an as-is warranty and was told the vehicle had passed inspection and was in good condition. It had 64,000 miles on it and appeared to be good. Since then I have had nothing but problems with this Jeep. First the wiring harness, then the transmission, now a diagnosis to replace the intake and exhaust manifold, replaced fuel pump and has a faulty fuel gauge, and possibly the stabilizer bar or steering components. This Jeep is costing me more in repairs than the actual value of it. I fear that it is unsafe and that I m facing more expenses if I keep it, but I am still making payments on it. Do I have any recourse as far as lemon law protection, recalls, help!!! I don't know what to do with it.
