5 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/24/2013

At 65 mph after hitting a couple of normal bumps where bridge surface meets the interstate, the front end shook so violently that it felt like body would separate from the frame. This is no subtle "shimmy or vibration" it makes you jump on the brakes and hope that the 18 wheeler behind you does not run over you. I think the center lane could be deadly when it occurs, because you can not find the berm fast enough. It goes away until the next time. Had steering stabilizer up sized, but to no avail. It has happened twice on highway since first incident. It is only a matter of time until we hear about fatalities. I am looking into larger shock absorbers as my mechanic says they are probably under sized for the tires. I am grateful my daughter was not driving it at the time. As a retired firefighter it takes a lot to impress me when it comes to dangerous situations. This is going to kill someone if it has not already taken lives.

6 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/15/2011

I purchased this vehicle used with very low mileage of 16,640 in 2011 confident that the vehicle was safe because of the car fax. There were no incidents reported. I am sure that the previous owner knew of this problem and reported it. What other reason would there be for such low mileage. When we went to the dealership only a month later to report the problem of the frightening wobble when hitting small pothole he smiled and said "OH yeah that's the (death wobble)". And then he told me that it is not covered under warranty. Therefore we are stuck because we could not pass this vehicle on in good conscience to anyone and that is over a $20,000 loss to the consumer. I want to know why something that can cause this kind of accident promoting incident not to be reported to the next purchaser of that particular vehicle or repaired by the dealership before resale. Our trip to and from hot springs nc on i81 s and n at speeds of 65-70 mph was a hair raising experience. Surrounded by tractor trailers a certain death would have come to anyone who went into a panic. I am outraged and disappointed by my dealership and the manufacturer of the suspension in this vehicle as the safety testing had to show a problem!!!!! I'm sure they redesigned the stabilizing system in the next year of this 2007 Jeep Wrangler x!!! it is the front stabilizer bar and shock absorbing assembly so do not let them tell you its anything other than that!.

9 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/15/2009

Multiple incidents of violent vibration in the vehicle front end, including the steering wheel and front wheels, are occuring after hitting a minor pot hole in the road. Incidents occur at highways speeds, normally 45 - 55 mph. The driver must reduce speed to near zero in order to recover safe and effective control of the vehicle. This vehicle defect appears to be the well-known and major safety issue in Jeep Wrangler vehicles known as "the death wobble". I purchased this vehicle new from a Jeep dealership and have had it professionally maintained per the manufacturer's instructions since the day I bought it. My spouse and I have both experienced this defect several times in the past few years, most recently on December 15, 2011. At this point, we've had the vehicle inspected several times and replaced a number of components on the vehicle, including the steering damper, four shock absorbers, and all 4 tires. , in addition, the suspension has been inspected numerous times in the past 3 years. Given the shear number of similar complaints by other owners, I feel that this is an obvious manufacturer defect that should be acknowledged and corrected by the manufacturer.
