While being towed by our RV on a city street, a fire started under the hood of the Jeep. The transfer case was in neutral. The manual transmission was in neutral. The ignition switch was turned 1 notch to accessory to unlock the steering. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. No police report was filed because the fire was not caused by an accident. Because of the severity of the fire damage, no cause of the fire was determined.

I had a fire due to a recalled ignition switch that was never repaired, I had no idea when I bought the used Jeep from the dealer. Chrysler is now denying any request to fix the parts damaged by the fire.

Ignition switch ? I was driving with my family and the car shut itself off. The engine stopped, the dash panel flickered, and then I lost all power. The brakes started losing pressure and my swaybar disconnect became disconnected. 1. 5 seconds later the Jeep came alive and I had all the lights on the dash light up with warning bells like you do when you start the vehicle. This happened 13 or so times on the way home. It's currently at the dealer getting fixed. While I was there this morning there were 3 others with chrylser group vehicles with the same problem. The Jeep forums also have several posts about this.
About 5 years ago I took my Jeep in because when I hit bumps my radio would go off and on, when I would shake the ignition keys the radio goes on and off. Took it to the shop once they said they fixed it, did it again and I took it a second time, they charge me for new ignition switch and said my keys were to heavy causing wear tear. A few days later it was happening again and I gave up with my dealer in chicago 60660. When I heard of the recent recalls I e-mailed my local dealer and told them the issue and that now I can turn off my Jeep take out the keys and radio will not shut off and I fear my my safety of the ignition turning off while I am on the highway, at 70 mph. I was told I could bring it in but not covered in recall. I can not afford to pay more money to Chrysler for this on going issue and will take a chance of possible death should it stall.

Ignition linkage rod (ignition to switch) on 2004 Jeep Wrangler unlimited & Jeep liberty is poorly made of weak pot metal material and is easily broken. Key will turn to on position (sometimes) but can not engage switch. Linkage rod needs to be made of stronger material or be made slightly thicker (which would also require a redesign of the switch's receiver hole) to be able to handle the strain of turning the ignition switch. Part is also housed behind a removable housing and is made to be serviced (showing that the manufacturer expected ware) but part is not available for purchase. The entire steering column must be replaced at a dealership at an expected cost of $400-$600. This is only one small part that should cost at most around $20 and is made to be replaced when the inevitable breakage occurs. Despite the frequency of this problem the dealers service center still claim that this is the first time they have ever heard of such a problem while the man in the parts department was familiar enough with it he identified the broken part before I could tell him myself what it was. He even asked if I was the same guy that had been in last week with the same complaint, which I am not. First time reporting a faulty part, my situation along with hundreds of reports I have read online has convinced me this is worthy of a recall.

I own a 2006 Jeep Wrangler and besides excessive tire wear which the local dealership cannot seem to fix, my latest problem is with the ignition system . Originally I thought it was the ignition switch but when I called the dealership to get a new one the parts salesman told me that my problem wasn't with the switch (and he was right) the problem is a piece of plastic between the switch and the tumbler and that the only way to get the plastic piece was to buy the complete steering column. In that phone call he also informed me that he knew this due to the fact they have had several problems with the Wranglers 1997 on up and the factory hasn't done anything to correct the problem and the only way to get this little 50 cent piece was to buy a $500. 00 steering column. I feel this should be a recalled item due to the fact they know it is a problem and I am afraid that while I'm driving the vehicle could shut down so I am not driving on the freeway so if it does shut down I wont have an uncontrollable vehicle at high speed.
The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Wrangler. When the contact removed the key from the ignition, the radio and instrument panel lighting did not turn off. The dealer stated that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.
Jeep Wrangler sport, 4. 0l was purchased as subsequent owner in 2003(?) in san juan, puerto rico. The problem appeared in maybe 2008 after moving to panama city (panamã¡). An airbag warning light was observed, intermittently, when first starting. Usually a second attempt was successful. Grupo q Chrysler Jeep replaced the ignition switch, at my expense. I was unaware that Chrysler daimler had recalled these vehicles for ignition switch problems in 2003/04, I think. My research revealed that gm/ac-delco was oeming these switches to Chrysler-daimler, and maybe others. The only thing I experienced was an annoyance, but those symptoms seemed to suggest that I may have been driving with disabled air-bags, had I not noticed the light, or if had been non-functional. The question is how many people might still be driving non-gm cars with these defective switches, and why has this not been publicized?.
I have a Wrangler built in 9/06 and purchased in 11/06. It has a
stalling issue while driving, it has had all the recalls and flashes done to the computer as well as the dealership replacing the ignition switch stating that was the cause of the stalling. I have also filed 2 other complaints with this org. On this. . #10192506 on 6/5 and #10204419 on 9/28. While driving tonight at a steady 70
mph. The engine cut out, stalled then re-started ! luckily my pregnant wife was not in the car. I have had this happen before numerous times. The vehicle went in for the last recall on this, and this is the third time it has stalled since the "fix" and this is the second time it has happened at night on the highway. . . I think anyone would believe a vehicle stalling and losing lights at night doing @70mph is very dangerous. All I want is a vehicle that I can depend on, I will state again I purchased this vehicle brand new and the engine is still stalling while driving, and this is the 3rd time since the manufactures recall computer "flash fix" . I would appreciate some help!.

2007 Jeep Wrangler. Has had the engine stall issue, in for TSB on this issue-vehicle was repaired. Dealership then later said it was stalling due to ignition switch after a few more stalling incidents. They replaced the switch, then manufacturer issued a recall in July for this issue, the recall was done. Today 9/27 the exact stall while driving happened again, vehicle shuts down when driving, losing all power/lights/steering/brakes.
On four occasions since purchasing the vehicle, while driving at highway speeds, the engine has stalled and all of the electrical components lost power for about 1. 5 to 2 seconds. Everything then returned to normal operation. When this occurs, all of the dash lights come on as though the ignition key was in the "on" position, as it is just before starting the car, then all returned to normal. This is a frightening experience at highway speeds. Should a driver be in the midst of an emergency maneuver during one of these occurrences, a serious accident can happen. This first happened in December , and the dealer where the vehicle was purchased replaced the ignition switch, but this has happened three additional times, the last being the date listed on this complaint. The service department at the dealership has been notified and the service representative has informed me that he noted all four reported incidents in the computer system.
- the contact stated that while driving 2007 Jeep Wrangler limited the warning lights on dash board turned on and radio turned off, at which time vehicle lost power while driving at 65-75 mph. Vehicle mileage at the time of failure was 2900, and is currently 7464. The first time vehicle lost power the rpms were still running. He put the vehicle in neutral. Then attempted to restart the vehicle and was successful. The second time the incident occurred warning lights turned on, and the radio turned off for another 5 second. He took foot off the accelerator and left the vehicle in drive and the vehicle regained speed, the lights turned off and the radio turned back on. The contact stated that he noticed that sometimes when he opened the windows the radio was off for about 5 seconds. The contact did take vehicle to dealership for second time, and they replaced the ignition switch, and the circuit brake panel. The contact stated that he took vehicle to dealership for repair again on 12/26/06 because the vehicle was still having the same electrical problems. Updated 1/17/2006 - windshield bracket bolts corroded. The left blinker would blink very fast. The dealer replaced the left front turn signal bulb. Gear shift became stuck. The dealer replaced the console mounted shift lever.
