2 Wiring problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/15/2021

Passenger side running light and side light stopped working. Changed the bulb and didn't fix the issue. Also found the back running light to work so know it is not a fuse. Appears to be fauly wiring or a bad ground. Has never been off road with this vehicle and only 42k miles.

3 Wiring problem of the 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

The wheel speed sensors are notorious to give out in these vehicles. Even at low mileage. The abs and traction control lights come on limiting performance and causing issues requiring immediate service. Their are many Jeep owners I have encountered with this issue and it can be either location or inappropriate guard to cover wiring. Jeep states it is part of maintenance but a simple plastic cover would alleviate a lot of the issues that may be associated to debri or causing faulty.

4 Wiring problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/16/2020

On March 16th drove to work and parked car. Left work and got into car in parking lot. Upon trying to start the car we experienced multiple electrical issues as well as loss of power steering, traction control, stability control, engine start/stop failure, push start unresponsive. Car finally started although multiple lights remained on. Drove the car slowly to fca dealer closest to home and explained issues to service advisor tyler pennington. Dealer had car in service for approximately 3 weeks until today 4/3/2020. Picked up from service manager al begil. Mr. Begil explained that they never could physically find the source of the issues despite going through many wiring harnesses, modules, fuse boxes, etc. Communicated with fca engineering multiple times over the three weeks. Seems like it was engineering advised dealer to try something and if that doesn't work try let engineering know and then they would try something else. Our service adviser said that they had never seen anything like it. When I picked up the vehicle, I was told to drive around town slowly for several days in case power steering goes out again. Don't go on highway. Paperwork from dealer doesn't show any correction for concern. Called fca customer support upon arriving home. Customer support advised that my issues needed to be "escalated" and that someone would reach out to me on Monday or Tuesday. I now go through weekend without vehicle having to go to work every day. Fca customer service said they can't offer a loaner because we got car from dealer. Extremely unprofessional service department at dealer. Not much better from fca since I won't hear back for at least 3-4 days. Have notes of conversation with service manager that scared my wife and I to death. Just too much to write here.

5 Wiring problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/24/2019

Under hard acceleration, like passing a car on the highway, the vehicle goes into limp mode which has nearly caused me to wreck 4 to 5 times due to being unable to accelerate. Once I pull of the road and restart limp mode goes away but the engine light stays on. The dealership says that the wiring harness is the issue. The vehicle has codes popping up about torque management. I would like for this to be fixed free of charge due to the wiring harnesses being an integral part if this vehicle.

7 Wiring problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/29/2019

Issues started with vehicle not able to start and inability to shift out of park. Battery would test good. After disconnecting battery, vehicle would start as usually. Issue began to escalate with oil light and esp light randomly lighting up on the dash. Finally, electronic throttle control and esp light would come on while driving and accelerator was unresponsive while driving on highway. I have replaced the throttle body and the entire wiring harness with no resolution. I am now replacing the computer in hopes that it will resolve the issues. I have had the Jeep in for auto service 5 times since January.

11 Wiring problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/14/2018

I was driving down a residential road going about 20mph, the vehicle started smoking so I pulled over and got out to find smoke coming from the fuse box/ battery area. It I could smell burnt electrical wiring. Within seconds of pulling over the smoke turned into a flame and before I could to get anything out of the Jeep the whole inside was full of smoke and the flame was spreading fast.

12 Wiring problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

During a "death wobble" event, my passenger side blinkers and brake light stopped working. We attempted to change the bulbs, fuses, and checked the wiring under the steering column to no avail. How much more is this vehicle cost me?.

13 Wiring problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/02/2018

Lightning bolt symbol and check engine light come on while driving. Vehicle goes into limp mode and starts running roughly. If turned off and allowed to sit will start up again just fine. Check engine light typically turns off after a couple more trips and runs just fine until it randomly does it again. Has been sometimes minutes, other times weeks between episodes. Have had accelerator position sensor replaced, throttle body replaced, and wiring to throttle replaced. Keeps happening. Has happened when vehicle is parked, sitting at light, normal driving, and while driving at highway speed.

14 Wiring problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

While driving moderate speed on a rural rd (est miles 115k), all red & yellow lights came on, "no bus" light came on which is not listed in the ops manual, windshield wipers came on, rpm gauge went to zero, fuel gauge went to empty, engine light flashing and engine running rough to possible stall. Within a period of time 10 min or so everything came back to normal and Jeep ran ok. This has happen to my wife who is a rural mail carrier on many occasions. In fact in 1 week it happened every day and it has happened many times over a long period. Jeep service folks don't know what is causing the problem as the codes do not pin point the problem. They "think" possibility it could be pwr fuse box, main computer or fwd instrument panel ea at a cost of over $1000 to replace. Service folks want t Jeep brought to them with lights on, gauges zero, engine light flashing but it's an intermittent problem and they are 30 miles or more away depending where the problem happens. Service folks have had the Jeep for a total of 3 days in Jan & Feb and drove it over 150 mile and the problem never appeared. In Feb 2015 while driving (24,171 miles) the engine light came "on" and Jeep stalled in the middle of the road. It was restarted and driven so Jeep was then taken to dealer and they found that a fault code said "wiring does not have enough slack between sensor & wiring causing poor connection". Replaced cam sensor & wiring. Fault cleared. Have photos of dash with "all lights and gauges showing zero and no bus light on and wipers going back and forth. I'll send if you need them but it all lights and gauges which are depicted in the ops manual. This possible engine stalling while driving and possible electrical fire is a safety issue. This problem has occurred over many months throughout 2018.

15 Wiring problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/30/2017

When you hit a bump or even a rock on the highway or any road, something happens the front end it starts shaking like crazy its as if you had a blow out. Normally around 35 to 50 miles an hour. This is happening to many Jeep owners they call it the "Jeep death wobble. " it is a very frightening situation. The steering wheel and the whole front end shakes back and forth. Slowing down does not correct the problem as some people have suggested you have to come to a complete stop. And then start driving again. This happened on a busy highway where there is not way of pulling over or on a road and it also happened on the city streets. This can cause a situation, there has been no recall on the issue but have heard many stories about this issue. It does not happen all the time , but when it does it is very frightening . This has happened several times but I have decided to make a complaint about it. I have not made video of it because you never know when it will happen, but have seen several on you-tube of vehicles with the same issue. I feel Chrysler Jeep should take full responsibility for it. Also the electric on the blinkers seem to be going out often also. Replacing a bulb does not work it is the whole socket or wiring system that needs to be replaced. I I research these issues many many Jeep owners complain about the same thing.

16 Wiring problem of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/11/2017

2015 Jeep Wrangler safari right rear signal light work intermittingly. Verified that not power is being transmitted to the right rear signal light from the tipm. Jeep will not warranty because they didn't install the after market towing wiring kit. The kit was installed when the vehicle was new and the problem first started after the vehicle had over 13,000 miles. At the time the problem was very intermitting and was only noticed because the inside signal blinker would suddenly brink at a very fast rate. A few minutes late it was ok. Now if you turn the sign light on, after about 5 seconds, it start blinking very rapidly indicating the right rear signal has failed again. The vehicle now has 16,000 miles and the situation is that the vehicle behind me may or may not know that I am making a right had turn.

17 Wiring problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

2014: dash and rear lights stopped working. Had to replace multi-function switch. Module and wiring melted and fused together. 2017: during install of new stereo, mechanic discovered multi-function switch and module melted again. Replaced all wiring with heavier gauge, replaced all bulbs with lower wattage leds. Wondering when next electrical problem will surface.

18 Wiring problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/03/2016

Nov 3, 2016. . . I arrived home, backed my 2013 Jeep Wrangler 4dr moab edition into her garage bay and left the bay door open since it was sunny out and went up to the house to prepare dinner. 20 mins after coming home, we heard a boom, looked out to see black smoke pouring out the open garage door for our Jeep. My husband ran down, used a fire extinguisher on the fire and then the water hose, then pushed the vehicle outside the garage and hosed it off more before the fire dept arrived. Investigation determined that the front wiring harness for the headlights, fog lights, trail lights and winch is where the fire started. The explosion we heard was a small canister by the radiator for the ac.

19 Wiring problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/17/2016

My 2011 rubicon left hand drive has never been in an accident and has an airbag light on. . . . I took it to the Jeep dealer and I can have the clock spring and wiring repaired for $810. . . This is a common problem as I was told by the dealer. . . . .

20 Wiring problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/07/2016

This complaint refers to the existing air bag clockspring wiring failure being investigated under ea 15-007 and previously pe 15-025. It is also closely related to safety recall 11v258 which involves the same part failure. Like other owners of my 2007-2012 Jeep Wranglers the clockspring unit in my vehicle has indicated it has failed with the abs error code b1b02 - "driver airbag squib 1 circuit open". The issue happened suddenly and has persisted. The vehicle has just over 55,000 miles and during my ownership it has not been submitted to extraneous environmental factors. Jeep customer care was notified of my issue (case # 29226734) but did not provide or offer remedy.

21 Wiring problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

My airbag light comes on intermittently. I have tried cleaning the wiring connectors under the front seat but this has had no effect on the light going on or off. This happens sometimes as it is sitting still as well as while driving. I have found this being an issue while researching this problem online in every forum that I have searched in. This has been happening for several months now and I am concerned that the airbags won't deploy when and if needed. I have kids that drive and ride in this vehicle.

22 Wiring problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/15/2016

2012 Jeep Wrangler have had intermittent trouble for well over a year. Turn car off and headlights stay on. Finally figured out that if I turn the car back on and roll forward a little I can sometimes turn lights off. Same problem turning the headlights on. Rolling the car a few inches usually corrected the headlights. Windshield wipers will start on their own or stop during use with no warning. This began in late 2014 but the problem was so intermittant we could not duplicate it on demand until August 2015. The dealer replaced the multi function switch and wiring harness but before we even drove out of the parking lot both the lights and windshield wipers were doing the same thing. They kept it a few days and "sealed the cluster". Didn't have a problem for a few weeks and the car is now 700 miles away at school with daughter. Around sept 2015 intermittent issues again but not able to duplicate at dealer. Recently (Jan 2016) the problems are daily and include the headlights going out every time the car makes a turn and then come back on a few seconds later. In addition the turn signal cuts off. Windshield wipers have a mind of their own but the lights are the most dangerous problem. Now that the problem is constant it¿s going back to a dealer but because the car is with daughter away at school it will be a different dealer. We are uncertain about tail lights because this occurs while driving and intermittently but the headlights and turn signal going off while driving through intersections has made this issue a major accident/injury risk.

23 Wiring problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/11/2015

Had to replace engine wiring harness on my Wrangler and my wife's 2012 Wrangler. Both are rhd. Not covered under warranty. Shame on Jeep.

24 Wiring problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/22/2015

My Jeep lost all power and brakes while driving. The abs and brake lines are charred throughout the entire vehicle from overheating and the main wiring harness was damaged as well. The vehicle is currently and national Dodge jacksonville nc awaiting repairs. Mike in the service department says the abs overheated but no fire but another mechanic I had look at it said there was a small fire.

25 Wiring problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/02/2015

While the vehicle was driven about 20mph, first on line to a traffic light and on about 20 t0 25 feet before the intersection and light was red, and when the brake was applied it did not stop and the vehicle kept moving and it was stopped by the emergency brake. A burning smell got inside the vehicle and people stopped yelling that the vehicle was on fire. When the hood was opened and the fire put out we notices that the fire started at the brakes pump sensor. It burned all the wiring around there to include plastic cover of left hand side wheel, the steering column rubber joint, sensors, the hood and other parts in that side.

26 Wiring problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/20/2015

When turning on fan speed switch (climate control) wire to fan becomes soo hot it melts, has burning smell, as if it wants to burn or catch fire. Has done this twice even after replacing burnt wiring. This wire gets red hot at any position of the fan speed switch which controls the ac, or heat. I'm afraid of Jeep catching on fire.

27 Wiring problem of the 2003 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/15/2014

There is no low, med or high fan settings on my heater fan. Replaced heater resistor, and wiring harness due to melted harness. Still no heater fan. So as the local Jeep dealership parts department had advised that there was an on going issue the the heater fan switch. Replaced the switch, fan worked for about 2 hours during my mail route. . . After the over whelming smell of burning wires coming from inside the dash the fan quit working. So I continued to freeze the rest of my route and hoping that the Jeep was not going to catch fire. I had contacted Jeep's customer service line to voice my concerns, the lady told me that there was not much they could do for me where my vehicle was out of warranty. I have done some research online and there seems to be quite an issue. . . I believe that Jeep should address the issue even though some Jeeps are out of the "factory warranty". This is a huge safety problem, as to all of the wires are factory installed and should be changed and addressed quickly.

28 Wiring problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/07/2014

There is a known issue with the Jeep Wrangler clock spring in 2007+ models. Currently a recall has been issued for 2007 and 2008 left hand drive models, and 2007-2012 right hand drive models. A recall should be made for all model years and configurations as this issue can lead to the airbags not deploying in the event of a crash. The current recall is as follows: Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 right hand drive (rhd) Jeep Wrangler vehicles manufactured from February 1, 2007, through October 10, 2011. Some vehicles may be equipped with driver's airbag clockspring assemblies that could experience a compromised airbag circuit resulting in an airbag lamp illumination, which indicates that the airbag may not deploy. Consequence: a broken electrical circuit in the airbag clockspring wiring assembly can lead to non-deployment of the driver frontal airbag and will not be able to properly protect the driver in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injuries. Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners and remedy the vehicles as necessary free of charge. Chrysler will mail to owners an interim notification during March 2012. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403. Notes: Chrysler's recall number is l37. Owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

29 Wiring problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/09/2014

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that there was an electrical short that burned through the electrical wires, the heating controls, and other components. The contact opened the paneling and noticed that the wires and various components were melted. The dealer stated that the ground wiring needed to be replaced and further inspection was required to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.

31 Wiring problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/26/2014

Key switch spindle went bad, had to replace key, then had to replace the complete key spindle and the wiring harness, it started to short out and cause a fire. Had to go to the dealership for repairs, cost $ 2087. 00 dollars.

32 Wiring problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/06/2014

In may 2014 I purchases a used Jeep from a dealer in kernersville, nc and experienced issues with the vehicle the dealership claims are manufacture issues: -lighting: we have had to replace the taillight bulbs on both sides twice since purchase (less than a year ago). These lights constantly hold water and we have to empty them repeatedly and the water never seems to empty completely. These lights also seem to be affected by wiring as they do not always illuminate despite an effective bulb. We took it in for repairs under our purchased warranty and the dealership states there is water damage due to insufficient wire protection. This is very concerning as water is an excellent conductor of electricity. Regardless of the used condition of the car I see no reason why this should be the case as wiring seems very much like a manufacture only responsibility. -wheels: the vehicle was purchased with all original wheels (not tires) and the valve stems on each wheel have disintegrated completely and crumbled apart. We realized this when the low air light came on and we went to fill the tires this issue seems to effect how well the tires can hold air. -speedometer: originally when we purchased the vehicle the speedometer was off by about 10mph (we did not know this until driving two separate cars and thinking "hmm is the other driver really speeding that much?" call one another on the phone and determined the Subaru would drive 60mph and see what speed the Jeep claimed to be driving when matched. We had this issue "fixed" about two weeks ago and now it is even worse. Upon doing the same speed test the Jeep was now 12mph over what it should be. Other issues non-resolved by dealership: rattling sound near clutch, less than awesome braking, and a tire light that will not go off no matter what actions are taken.

33 Wiring problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

Had been noticing a plastic burning smell for a couple months, never found a cause or anything not working properly. Driving home early one morning I noticed my headlights were not working, the brights worked and so did the fog lights, but no low beams. After looking on Jeep forums and noticing a lot of people were having the same problem I decided to take the cover off my column and take a look. The wiring harness connected to my multifunction switch was burnt, proof of at least one small electrical fire, if not multiple small fires. I cannot be the only one with this problem, multiple posters on Jeep forums have reported similar events.

34 Wiring problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/02/2013

On the 2008 Jeep Wrangler dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags. This has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 Jeep Wrangler owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. This faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 Jeep Wrangler during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. Daimler Chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying. Also on a different issue, on certain occasions I go to start my vehicle and I will hear a click and the vehicle will refuse to turnover, it is a random occurrence that is a huge inconvenience. Sometimes my Jeep will start after 5 or 6 tries, other times it can take a half hour for it to finally start up. I have tried changing the battery to no avail and am hesitant to hire someone to go through all of the wiring harness.

35 Wiring problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/19/2013

Kindest regards, pat this is what I read on your website: report receipt date: Nov 02, 2011 NHTSA campaign number: 11v528000 component(s): air bags all products associated with this recall details 10 associated documents manufacturer: Chrysler group llc summary: Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 right hand drive (rhd) Jeep Wrangler vehicles manufactured from February 1, 2007, through October 10, 2011.
