Failure Date: 06/04/2019

We own a 2018 Jeep Wrangler unlimited (4-door) rubicon, original owner, currently has 2625 miles on it. The vehicle wanders on all road surfaces. The steering is very loose and it is difficult to keep in in the lanes while in motion. This excessive play in the steering makes for a very uncomfortable to drive as you are constantly correcting the direction of the vehicle to keep it from going off the roadway or into another vehicle. This steering issue is very dangerous. I have taken it back to the dealer for repair and they have found nothing.

43 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

Simply put scary dead zone in the steering. Steering won't respond for about 2-3 inches and requires constant input and correction. The Jeep constantly wonders. Steering feels loose. Minimal changes in conditions or input make large adjustments this condition certainly will eventually turn a correction into an accident or roll over.

44 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/28/2019

The steering is loose. Over 1 inch of play in steering drifts to left and right and unable to control at any speed. Constantly have to fight the wheel. I am afraid to drive it. $52,000 to remain in the dealership repair shop is pathetic. I took mine back after 3 days and now I am fighting and filing lemon law. I was told by the dealership Chrysler told them not to fix it until they determined if a recall would be sent out, but they knew there was a problem.

45 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/25/2019

Just bought a 2018 Wrangler jl leftover/ brand new off the lot. I immediately noticed that the steering is very loose and difficult to control. This is especially true in wind or if driving 55 miles per hour or more. My husband refuses to drive the car because he feels unsafe doing so. I get very nervous as well. I'm constantly having to adjust the wheel to stay on the road. The second issue is that sometimes when I set the cruise control it will just keep going past my designated speed I chose unless I turn it off. Lastly my car seems to not shift gears down. It throttles and revs. When I took it to be looked at I was told it's no big deal. Well it is! even my local mechanic said he feels that it's not switching properly between gears. I've waited 22 years to buy my first Wrangler and I paid $42000 for it. It should not do any of this! it's brand new. It's also a safety hazard. I could get into a major accident! I need help with these things please. Stand behind your product. This is my first Wrangler but my 4th Jeep. I also talked my mom and brother into buying new Jeeps the same week I did last month! my contact is 315-723-6849. Lisa addison wilson. I'd like call back so someone can help me. Thank you.

46 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/13/2019

From the first day I got the Jeep I felt the steering wheel loose. I notify the dealer and I had taken it twice for service they put a steering damper but the problem still exist. When I took it the second time they didn't find anything and said it was a Jeep thing.

47 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/06/2019

While driving the steering is loose, the vehicle wanders and is difficult to maintain my lane at highway speeds. It has been to the dealer 5 times for this issue. They have completed the TSB concerning the issue and it has not repaired the problem. This needs to be investigated and repaired before someone is hurt or killed because of it. My vehicle is currently parked because my wife is afraid to drive it.

48 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/03/2019

Steering is loose and vehicle is difficult to drive straight. Vehicle wanders around the road and causes vehicle to sway into other lanes.

49 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/24/2019

Steering is very loose and requires constant correction. I bought this on 4/24/2019 brand new. It is extremely dangerous because it steers left or right on its own without driver input. This needs to be fixed before someone dies. This is not a "Jeep thing". It's not normal. This is a serious safety issue. It should not be attempting to change lanes on its own.

50 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

Steering feels loose when driving at any speed. Car wanders on the road and requires constant steering input to stay in the lane. Feels like I am driving an old toy go-cart, with a dead spot in the steering. There is so much play that the steering wheel can be turned ~10 degrees with no change. Researched that this is a chronic problem with 2018 and 2019 Jeep Wranglers. Jeep service states that the problem can be fixed with a new track bar, but the dealers are allowed to only order one part per week. My dealer stated that he cannot order the part for another 4 days! since when can a manufacturer ration parts that are critical for vehicle safety?!.

51 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/29/2019

Day 1 after purchase the steering was so loose you had to constantly make adjustment to stay in your lane. I called the dealership and took it back they check it and said everything was fine it typical of a Jeep. Said to drive it and I would get used to it. I put several miles on it and was not comfortable driving. I purchased a teraflex 2. 2 adjustable steering stabilizer hoping that would help and continued to drive it. I took it back they flashed the computer because I asked them to after I researched the problem. It still wasn't fixed. They took it back and performed the recall by replacing the steering box and reinstalling the old stock stabilizer previously replace by aftermarket one. It seemed better at first. I continued to drive hoping it would work itself out, but it didn't. I took it to another dealership and they repaired a boot that was torn from the recall and said the computer still needed to be flashed to finish the recall which they did. The Jeep still pulls to the right and has loose /dead spot in the steering. It happens while in motion and on any street. I plan on giving this Jeep to my son when he turns 16 and buying a new one. However as of today I do not feel comfortable with the steering to let a new driver behind the wheel. Please help.

52 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/17/2019

While driving at approx 60-65mph, in 30 degree weather and on the highway, I was coming around a bend and the steering locked up. I could not turn my steering wheel and almost collided with a tractor trailer and was heading straight into the median. After pulling on the steering wheel and slowing down, the steering then loosend and my car swerved almost hitting the car in the next lane over. This has happened on 2 other separate occasions besides the one just explained. I'm very concerned over the safety of my family. The dealership couldn't duplicate the problem so no repair was done. This is a serious problem and needs to be addressed ASAP.

53 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/09/2019

Model is a 2018 jk sport (2-door) with 3,400 miles. Upon a right turn into the entrance drive of an apartment complex and hitting a slight bump at the curb line, the car immediate loss steering control along with the traction control light illuminating on the dash and felt the vibration of the anti-lock brakes activating. Stopped immediately, check underneath, saw no damage. Continued slowly into the apartment complex, the steering was very loose taking many turns of the steering wheel to turn the front wheel of the car. Any time the steering wheel was turned right or left, the traction control light illuminated on the dash along with the vibration of the anti-lock brakes activating. With the loose steering and the traction control light / abs activating when turning the steering wheel, nothing else out of the ordinary detected, decided to drive slowly to the Jeep dealer. On the way to the dealer, on a straight away at about 25 mph got a violent shaking in the front of the vehicle, commonly known as the "death wobble". Arrive safely to the dealer keeping the speed real slow and the steering turns to a minimum. Inspection by the dealer reveled the front track bar bracket had completely detached from the frame on the way to the dealer. As seen in the uploaded photo, it is quite obvious that the bracket was improperly welded to the frame. This is exactly the same problem under safety recall ua5 / NHTSA 18v-675 for the jl model, but this jk model of the same year.

54 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

Steering: vehicle wanders and steering is loose in efforts to correct direction. Angle of road surface such as crown sometimes results in unexpected direction change toward another lane and the slop in the steering itself makes it challenging to correct without over-correction. In traffic this results in intense effort to maintain position which results in increased physical and mental fatigue over relatively long drives. The steering seems inconsistent as it varies from minimally problematic to a white-knuckle driving experience. Have not been able to determine if this is due to road condition versus steering component. Dealer has performed the v41 steering damper recall which improved only excessive wheel shudder when driving over road imperfections and did nothing to improve the wandering/looseness. They also did adjust alignment which they said was off slightly. No notable improvement from that. I have advised dealer that the repair effort was not effective and I will now have to take the vehicle back in, but they tend to just provide the ?it?s a Jeep - that?s the way they are? line. The steering in the Jeep is not typical and I see similar complaints in forums where a single thread has half a million views. Something is not right here.

55 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

The steering in very loose at highway speeds allowing vehicle to wander all over. Very hard to keep in traffic lanes. Dealer has been unable to fix since new. Less than 1500 miles on unit now. The Jeep is very dangerous to drive and all other new Jeep Wranglers tested feel the same way. All older models tested were a lot tighter and easier to control at highway speeds.

56 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/17/2018

The steering is very loose (lots of play), wanders back and forth in lane and is overly sensitive to input - constantly darting back and forth as if on ice. This occurs most when on rough / wet pavement, on curves in construction zones, when large trucks pass, on windy days - it is very difficult to control above 40 mph. Dealer has been responsive and helpful - we have replaced track bar, replaced tie rod bushings, updated steering control module, adjusted alignment, reduced air pressure in tires - all of which has helped reduce wander and improve control. But, still has some wander and is very sensitive. Will replace steering stabilizer with custom adjustable stabilizer, which I expect will eliminate wander and tighten / firm steering. But, I believe problem is defective steering gear / box, and settings in steering control module - which should be recalled and replaced. Needs firmer, tighter steering with less play. Vehicle is unsafe, until steering issue is resolved.

57 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/14/2018

Steering has play/dead area when driving. Road irregularities cause it to steer dramatically and suddenly (bump steer). Correcting the bump steer requires large steering wheel inputs (sawing of steering wheel). Road "s" turns magnifies dead area of steering when reversal of direction is steered. Higher speeds magnify the feeling that the steering is loose or not tightly connected. There is a notable time lag in a steering input. A family member that have drove it called it "squirrely" . My wife refuses to drive it. At highway speeds (50-70 mph), the front tires will shimmy if a bump is encountered on the interstate.

58 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/12/2018

Jeep Wrangler 2018 jl with 1010 miles and 5 weeks old. Steering is very loose when driving at any speed, but say at 60, I can move the steering wheel at least 2 inches from right to left before the steering responds. It takes constant corrections to keep the vehicle in your lane. We live in a mountainous area with narrow windy roads and many large trucks (logging trucks etc). Its extremely dangerous to drive these roads with the vehicle because your constantly correcting to stay in your lane. I've had it to the dealer, they've acknowledged the issue, but their telling me they drove another Jeep just like mine and it does the same thing so they don't know what to do. They and I are contacting Jeep. At this time I won't let me wife or kids drive the vehicle, and it's pretty much parked in the garage until this issue is resolved.

59 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/03/2018

Steering is loose and unresponsive ,Jeep wonders into lanes on highways, hard to keep straight, constant steering wheel input needed to maintain a straight line at highway speeds, after hitting some pumps at highway speeds the front wheels shake and the steering wheel occilates , in some case vilantly causeing temporarily lose in control of Jeep. Can turn steering wheel several inches in both directions without the wheels turning. Unknown as to what the problem is, I have been pulled over by police who thought I was a drunk driver due to not maintaining a straight line. Almost involved in an accident with my children in car, hit a bump at highway speed and the wheels shook and steering wheel occilated and could not maintain my lane, was pulled over by driver in other car as we thought we had struck but luckily not, my dealer has already replaced sevaral parts but they cannot fix problem. . . Still at dealer with no hope of being fixed.

60 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/28/2018

When driving at highway speeds steering seems loose and not very responsive. It takes a good deal of turn in the wheel for it to move the wheels a little. If you have to move quickly the wheel does not react. I feel it is unsafe because if you needed to get out of the way and move the wheel it does not respond, in my option the steering is too loose and does not have any resistance behind the wheel and is dangerous and could cause an accident.

61 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/22/2018

Steering I loose and vehicle wanders constantly. On several occasions almost resulting in accidents. I currently have 2200 miles on the vehicle and this problem has occurred since day one. I have an appointment to have Jeep dealer check out but want to document this problem in case I have an accident prior to the dealer visit.

62 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/18/2018

I was driving straight at a speed of 65 miles per hour on a busy, main highway. Without warning, the Jeep went into a "death wobble" and was unable to be controlled. I was unable to steer the vehicle and I was forced to coast to a stop along the shoulder. Only upon bringing the car to a complete stop did the the violent shaking stop. I was unable to drive the car properly after that, as the steering was loose and not correctly controlled. I made it to a gas station while driving slowly and was towed to a dealership from there.

63 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

This Jeep wanders on the road. The steering feels loose. I constantly have to fight it to keep it in my lane. I have taken it to 2 dealers and they tell me that this is the way the new drive by wire steering is handling these days. I feel it is unsafe and it makes me want to sell my brand new Jeep.

64 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/31/2018

1. The steering wheel is loose and vehicle wanders off of the road at >45 mph speed. Unable to keep vehicle on traffic lane. 2. The vehicle stopped on city street while traveling at 22 mph speed. Check engine light on and the transmission locked. 3. Low battery voltage (12. 7v) reading while running and at stationary.

65 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/26/2018

The first day I purchased the Jeep there was obvious steering wheel play as I drove home on the freeway. Three weeks later the steering is still loose and I am concerned that there will be a crash. At 70 miles per hour it is very noticeable that the steering system has too much play. It seems that there may be a screw(s) loose on the steering shaft or a problem in the steering gearbox itself. While driving you have to constantly correct the steering due to the vehicle wandering from lane-to-lane. The second problem occurred today as the drivers seat back fails to lock in place after getting items out of the back seat after leaving the grocery store. The seat back simply rocks back and forth as I accelerate and brake. The problem appears to be with the strap that allows the seat to be tilted. This strap at the base of the seat goes into the airbag housing for side impacts. This strap does not engage the mechanism to keep the seat in an upright position.

66 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/04/2018

Same issue as many others: loose steering especially at highway speeds, and dead spots off center. Requires constant correction to stay in lane, which at highway speeds and next to trucks can be terrifying. Former Wrangler jk owner, so I know it's not a "Jeep thing". Seen many reports of lose ball joints, weak track bar welds, and incorrect alignments, in addition to the new aluminum gearbox, as contributing to the issue. Jeep needs a comprehensive steering fix for the jl, and soon. I believe this issue started for builds around April and later, in response to reports steering for some was locking up. I believe Jeep went the other direction and simply made the steering loose instead of fixing the actual lockup issue. Jeep must come up with a true solution that results in no lock ups and tight, reliable, solid steering.

67 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/03/2018

The steering is loose requiring me to constantly correct the path the vehicle is taking. There is inches of play in the steering wheel with no corresponding reaction. The dealer has no solution. This vehicle is a newly purchased 2018 Wrangler with approximately 1300 mile on the odometer. I do not want an accident because of this.

68 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/03/2018

While the vehicle is in motion the steering is very loose. You can move the steering wheel left and right about 4 inches in play and the wheels never turn at all. This makes drifting, especially at high speeds, a huge safety risk. You must overcorrect the wheel in order to stay in your lane while driving. The caster nut and gear box nut seem to come from the factory extremely loose causing this potentially life threatening safety hazard.

69 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/03/2018

Jeep wanders all over the road like steering is loose - hard to keep going in a straight line. Felt it during test drive but thought it was "just a Jeep thing". After driving many miles and talking with others it appears it is not normal. Thousands of reports about it on various forums including car and driver magazine. Actually feels like Jeep is out of control at times. Scary. Dealer claims no issue since no TSB/recall and nothing they can do about it. This is a safety risk!.

70 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

The steering is very loose and vehicle wanders all over. Problem is especially bad at highway speeds and requires constant input to remain straight. Steering wheel has about 2 inches of dead space so corrections are cumbersome. Steering will lock up at highways speeds and then suddenly release. This has happened 5 times and caused me to skid 2x and go off highway one.
