The steering is defective it allows the vehicle to violently shake and you lose control. I almost ran into a concrete wall along the interstate. I was accelerating up an entrance ramp and the vehicle began shaking so violently the hood was separating from the body I estimate at least 6" off side to side shake. I could not steer, just try to hold the steering wheel straight and allow the vehicle to slow down. The ball joints, tie rod joints, and track bar must be replaced.

I want to report an issue with my Jeep Wrangler 2006. I bought this car from Jeep in annapolis maryland
Jeep 2006 with 9,343 miles on it. Two months later it began shaking uncontrollably at 50-55 mph. Only at this speed. This is very scary when it happens and have almost gone off the road. The only way to stop it is to accelerate to higher speed or to slow down. I took it back to the dealer where I purchased the vehichle and they did a an alignment. The shaking stopped and 1 month later it started again. A year later, of just putting up with this I bring the Jeep back to the dealer. They tell me that the cause is from worn tie rods and steering damper worn. If this is the cause of the shake then they should have told me this a year ago. I think the worn parts are a result from the shake. Not the cause. Either way , the Jeep now has 26,000 miles and I'm already being told to put 2000 dollars into it for worn parts. These parts are wearing prematurely because of the shake but no one can determine the cause. If I had bought the car new , I could have used the lemon law but unfortunately, I bought it with low mileage used. This is a very dangerous situation and wondering if it will take a death for someone to recall these like the problem with Toyota accelerator. Its very frustration, and the average person does not have the time or money to fight something like this. I have seen so many people with the same complaints on the internet. Something should be done.

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. While driving 65 mph the vehicle started to shake violently. The contact pulled the vehicle to the side of the road to see if he had a flat tire. Nothing was physically wrong with the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer who stated that the tie rods were damaged and the steering damper needed to be replaced. The vehicle is currently at the dealer being repaired. The contact stated that the "death wobble" could have caused a crashed. The failure mileage was 37,000.
As I was traveling on 95 towards baltimore I hit a bumpy patch in the road, my 2007 Jeep Wrangler4 door started shaking violently and became uncontrollable. It felt as though all four tires were about to fall off. It was quite difficult to control the Jeep and I barley made it to the shoulder with out hitting another car. The next day it happened again traveling about 45 mph. I then took it to the dealership and they replaced the tie rod and the steering chassie with "reengineered parts" this violent shaking is commonly known as "death wobble" and there are countless documented instances of this in testimonial and video form on the internet. The Jeep dealership said "OH you have the death wobble" but after contacting Chrysler they knew nothing of this problem and will refused to pay for the repairs the Jeep was just barley out of warranty. This is an extremely dangerous defect with this vehicle. The Jeep is out of control until it comes to a stop.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle vibrated. No warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer for diagnosis. The dealer stated that the front suspension and tie rods needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacture had not been notified. The failure mileages was 50,000 and the current mileages was 110,000.
I'm 2nd owner of an '06 Jeep Wrangler. Miles at purchase: 26521. Still under warranty. At 27,000 I experienced "death wobble" at 55mph. Took it in to ferman of plant city dealership and they replaced the damper. Within less then 1000 miles it happened again. Took it to xtreme Jeeps and they could not figure out what was causing it. I then took it back to local dealership, citrus Chrysler of dade city, FL at about 28,000 miles. They have had it since 12/08/08. They say the tie rods and tracbar need replacement but they can't get the parts until after 12/24/08. I research this death wobble and found out that it happens to many, many other Jeep owners. You just need to do a google search to see how often it happens. Chrysler do not own up to the fact that this unsafe problem exists. There is no reports of this when I paid for a carfax report. This is a very, very unsafe problem that needs to be looked in to. I am expected to bail these guys out with my hard earned tax money while they hide the fact that they're producing these unsafe vehicles. I am now paying for a vehicle I can not drive. The dealership has it in their lot waiting for parts. This is very upsetting and you need to look in to this matter. How dare them not recall these vehicles and redesign steering to make them safe. I will never buy another american made vehicle again. Corp greed with unsafe products is so un-american!!!!.
Drive a 2007 4-door Wrangler. Within 6 months of purchase, hit a small bump going around 50 mph on highway. Car steering vibrated uncontrollably moving about 2-inches side to side. No shoulder available (caused other cars to swerve away from me) but after breaking, it eventually stopped. Asked dealer service workers (while it was being looked at for second recall for computer/breaks) why this was happening, they claimed "that is what Jeeps do". Happened 4 more times until a witness from the road pulled me over to tell me "he thought my right front wheel was going to come off. " Jeep claimed to have never heard of it before. (there are website about "death wobble" everywhere). Brought to dealer, fixed tie rod. Happened again, said it might be a bad tire. Will be at my expense. Called tire manufacturer, to start a file.
I bought the vehicle used with 16,500 miles on it. A week after I was accelerating on to the interstate when I hit approximately 50 mph the Jeep started to shake violently. I had to come to an almost complete stop on the interstate to get it to stop. I first thought it was the tires but it had a brand new set on it. So I had them micro balanced. It didn't do again for about 2 weeks until I tried to get on the interstate again at 50 mph. I took it to Jeep because it was still under warrant and was told because it had one size larger tires it was not covered under warranty. At 19500 miles I replaced 4 ball joints, complete heavy duty drag link system with new tie rod ends, new hd track bar, 4 new shocks, new front springs, hd steering damper, tires micro balanced, wheel alignment that lasted about two months before it did it again. I now have 31,000 miles on it and still fighting the death wobble. I have spent over a 1000 dollars to try and fix this. I believe that should be looked into because someone will get killed. I think it's only a matter of time.
2007 Wrangler 4- door unlimited. Popping felt through both steering column and gas/brake pedals when going over small bumps. No violent shaking like described in others. . . Just a very uncomfortable popping. The popping has become increasingly more noticeable over a period of about 3,000 miles. The popping is now audible. It has been at Jeep 3 times so far, with the only solution being to replace the tie rods to no avail.
Vehicle will enter into a violent wobble and shake when hitting a bump at highway speed. Violent shaking does not stop until speed is reduced to under 20 mph. Had wheels rotated and balanced, wheels aligned. Checked all tie rods, ball joints, and linkage with no noticeable wear. Death wobble still present.
