My 2018 Jeep Wrangler has a steering issue that causes the steering wheel to shake and vibrate when hitting road imperfections at highway speeds. Was purchased new and has been back for repairs three times. The steering dampener was replaced and the problem still exists. Tasca Jeep in ri has had the Jeep for a week for this 3rd visit without resolution. I keep getting told that the Chrysler engineers are not getting back to them thru the " star" program. We bought this Jeep to tow behind our RV as we are retired and have not been able to leave for our retirement ventures and do not feel safe driving or towing this brand new Jeep.

Right around 7000 miles, I began experiencing death wobble at various speeds. The death wobble is initiated when speeds are greater than 35mph and the Wrangler hits an imperfection (bump, sewer cap, highway bridge expansion gap, pothole, etc). The Wrangler's steering wheel begins shaking/oscillating violently back and forth and does not stop until the vehicle speed is brought down to a stop. This is no fun when it happens to you at highway speeds. I have reached out to fca but they told me this is normal for a fixed-axle/solid-axle vehicle. This is not normal, it is actually quite dangerous. I am afraid to drive my vehicle.
When you hit a bump in the road driving 60 mph or higher you lose control of steering. The steering wheel shakes uncontrollably.
Violent steering wheel shaking and front end steering shaking when driving over road imperfections over 60 mph. Loose and wandering steering resulting in multiple steering corrections to remain straight in line on a flat straight and leveled surface. Wrangler was in dealership for more than 40 days total for backordered parts and repairs. Wrangler picked up today after 3rd visit. Steering damper replaced for 2nd time. Driver side shock absorber replaced. Violent shaking has been resolved so far. But loose and indirect steering is still present. Videos available upon request.
On the highway while traveling straight ahead at speeds above 65 mph any time the vehicle is introduced to a bump, dip in the highway, transition to a bridge or change in pavement the steering wheel shakes violently and the vehicle is virtually uncontrollable. In order to get the vehicle to stop shaking speed must be reduced to 30 mph or lower. The vehicle is not drivable at highway speed as every bump, dip or road transition causes this symptom.
When you hit an imperfection in the road you get death wobble in the steering wheel which shakes the whole vehicle and you have to come to bring the vehicle toto a complete stop to get it to stop. One time was crossing railroad tracks is at45 mph the next time was on the freeway at 70 mph very unsafe.
Weld quality on frame are very questionable. When my Jeep twists while off-roading, it sounds like it wants to tear itself apart and the doors dont want to shut close when the vehicle is fully flexed. This doesn't happen to the newer 2019+ models with obvious better welds on frame. It gets annoying with all the crunching noise the body makes when I drive on uneven roads. Again, not seen on newer models. Also, the steering stabilizer was replaced and still my steering wheel start shaking when I drive on uneven roads. I have taken my Jeep to the dealer 4 times complaining about the radio and it keeps shutting off and volume freezing.
My problem has been happening since mid-November. The problems is that at highway speeds if I hit a bridge joist or a seam in the highway, the steering wheel shakes violently back and forth and I have to slow down. The dealer and Jeep have said it was the steering stabilizer, but I've had two replacements and the same thing continues to happen. It is especially bad if the bump is on a corner and one tire hits it before the other. I've almost lost control several times. This happens at speeds of around 45+ mph. It is definitely a scary situation.
I bought this Wrangler jl model new this past summer. Since that time I have experienced 3 separate occasions where the front end shakes uncontrollably with the steering wheel shaking back and forth. This occurred once on a multiple lane road traveling approximately 45mph and once on a highway traveling approximately 70mph. I have been told by the Jeep dealer this is termed a "death wobble. ".
My steering wheel shakes/vibrates rapidly multiple times daily at speeds verying from 20mph through 80mph. It happens when I hit a bump or some kind of iregular form in the road and it last from 5 seconds all the way to 35 seconds.
When driving on the highway, or at speeds above 60 mph, if there is a change in the road, such as a pot hole, a dip in the road or an overpass transition, the steering wheel shakes violently until the vehicle comes to a complete stop or under 50 mph. The vehicle was taken in to the dealership for repair and picked back up the 27th or December. The shaking steering wheel started back up again 1/10/19. The vehicle is currently waiting to be dropped off at the dealership in two weeks when a loaner will be available.
If the car was going over 60 and hit a bump, the steering wheel would shake uncontrollably also causing the tires and the whole car to be uncontrollable. Would have to brake and try to get it back in control. Happened 6 times since I purchased the car in September the lasdt time it happened it scared me because it took a little while to get control of the car. I took it to napleton Jeep and as I was explaining the situation she stopped and said it was a safety issue meaning I needed to clean out the car and would not be able to drive it. She said they had a Jeep there for over 25 days and she did not know when I would be getting it back. It was explained to me it is a steering wheel damper. Over rated shock. I have called numerous times both the dealer and Jeep. They have given me 3 different dates as to when the part will be in. None of those have come to forwishen. Someone was going to call me and no one ever does.
Excessive / severe front wheel shake when hitting bumps, pot holes, etc. Front wheels, along with the steering wheel will shake severely when hitting bumps at highway speeds. Vehicle control is greatly impacted. Front wheels and steering wheel will not stop shaking until vehicle is nearly brought to a complete stop. Ability to keep control of the vehicle and stay within your lane requires extreme/extended braking at highway speeds. Vehicle has been service by an authorized Jeep service department. Jeep recommended part(s) were replaced but the problem still exists.
Hi, I purchased a 2018 Jeep wrangle jlu new from you dealership and I have been having several significant issues with it recently. The most concerning is several issues with the steering. At highway speeds if you hit a bump like an expansion joint ; the steering wheel shakes aggressively and causes you to temporarily lose control of the Jeep and you have to slow down for it to self correct. It is similar to death wobble in a lifted Jeep but this one is stock. Also, with the colder weather the steering wheel is not turning freely at highway speeds. It is almost as if the power steering randomly turns off but the wheel is even more difficult to turn. The steering goes back to normal at slow speeds. And finally the radio and touch screen are not working properly. The fm radio randomly completely loses signal and can not find stations. Randomly even with the volume all the way up to 30 you can barely hear the radio. Several times the screen has made a pop noise and then just turned off. The blue tooth intermittently fails.
When driving highway speeds and vehicle hits a bump or bridge lip, vehicle shakes and steering wheel shake uncontrollably. This occurred on November 22, 2018 and now it has continued when I drive on the interstate with posted speed of 70.
Last week, I drove over highway expansion joints while traveling at highway speed. My steering wheel began to shake violently and the entire front end began to shimmy and wobble. I immediately moved from the passing lane, through the center lane, to the far right lane. There, after reducing speed, the shaking stopped. I experienced this same problem this week while traveling on interstates at highway speed, 5 times within the same trip. The shaking began after hitting a seemingly small imperfection in the road. The first time, the wobbling and shaking must have been visible from the exterior as the car behind me dropped back and those to the right of me cleared the way for me to move over. The other four times were not as severe and the shaking stopped after I reduced speed. I called the Jeep dealership and spoke with the service department from the road to see if they had heard of this problem and to see if the car was safe to drive. The service rep claimed to have never heard of this issue and attributed it to a tire balance problem, although I assured him it was not. When I arrived at my destination, I researched the issue on the internet and found a problem called "Jeep death wobble" that perfectly describes my experiences. Videos posted on youtube also matched what had occurred. I plan to take my Jeep in for service when I return home. Date listed below is most recent incident and the day I contacted the dealership.
death wobble this has now happened multiple times when traveling on the highway. When I am over 70mph and hit a bump the steering wheel shakes violently until I slow down. I almost feel like I am going to lose control and have had to pull over on the side of the highway to get this to correct itself. This needs fixed.
If I hit a bump on the highway traveling at speeds over 70mph the steering wheel shakes violently until I hit my brakes and slow down under the minimum speed limit for it to stop shaking.
My vehicle is starting to experience death wobble. When it hits a bump on the highway the steering wheel shakes violently for a few seconds. This is a new issue that I have not had before. The vehicle has 2200 miles.
death wobble experienced again. Traveling over 70mph on the PA turnpike and hit a small bump when my steering wheel began to shake violently. I had to pull off the side of the rode to fix the problem. I have a stock 2018 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara. I had a stock 2015 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara prior to this and never experienced this issue. It is very dangerous.
I was driving on a highway, about 70 mph and went over bump on a bridge. The steering wheel started shaking for about 3 seconds and stopped as I let off the gas. I went over the next bridge and it did the same thing. This is the 1st time this has happened to me , the vehicle only has 5300 miles on it.
Death wobble. When hitting a bump at highway speeds, the steering wheel will shake side to side violently until the Jeep has slowed to around 40-45 mph. Steering is still possible but very limited. This happens when going straight or during turns at 55+ mph. This started when the vehicle had 3,800 miles. I have had the Jeep into the dealer 3 times. The steering stabilizer was replaced, then the tires were balanced. Now they are investigating tie rod ends and other possible causes.
My new jl Jeep has a death wobble when I hit small bumps or drive on freeway that has the small bumps going across the lane. The steering wheel starts shaking violently feels like I'm going to crash. I have to slow down and almost pull over.
Saturday 11/10 going 60 mph on highway my steering wheel began to shake violently only to correct once slowing down to 40 mph on highway. Took vehicle to dealership on Monday 11/12. Steering dampener was replaced and vehicle was returned Tuesday 11/20. On Tuesday 12/18 while going 65 mph on highway the steering wheeel once again began to shake violently and only when slowing down in morning traffics did it stop. The vehicle had 1,000 miles since it was returned in November. I began my lease on this vehicle at the end of September and it has 3,000 miles in 3 months. It is once again back in service and awaiting another steering dampener as a replacement. Jeep customer service and dick scott in Plymouth have both been extremely pleasant to work with. However, I have serious concerns that this may happen again even once the vehicle is returned. Original steering dampener failed at 2,000 miles and replacement dampener from Nov 2018 failed at 1,000 miles. The term that is often used for this steering shaking is the death wobble and I have serious concerns of something signivwnt happening. All steering shaking shave occurred on the highway between 60-65 mph while going straight. No major potholes or disruption to the road was experienced.
When traveling on the highway over 70mph I hit a small bump and my steering wheel began to shake violently and uncontrollably. It forced me to slow down until the shaking stopped.
While driving at 55-75 mph, when hitting a bump, the wheels start bouncing erratically and the steering wheel shakes violently. The only way to get it to stop is to slow down to 40-50 mph. Out of all the cars and trucks I've ever driven, I've never experienced anything even close to this. Everyone in the car freaked out and now no-one in my family will drive the car. It's a new Wrangler, still < 10,000 miles and no modifications to anything - completely stock. This has happened about 20-25 times. Our recent 3 hour drive on the expressway, it happened 4 times.
Death wobble. Steering wheel shakes after hitting a bump, usually at a lower speed. 30-60 mph. Sometimes slowing down is required to stop the shaking. Not safe.
2018 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara with 9000 miles on it. Just started experiencing extreme steering wheel shaking and suspension wobble at highway speeds after going over a bump. Has now happened 6 times in the last week. Only way to stop it is to slow down or stop.
The vehicle experiences severe wobbling over bumps to the point that the entire car and steering wheel shakes uncontrollably to the point where is risks a crash. This condition is present at normal highway speeds.
When driving on the highway at speeds around 70-75 mph the vehicle will hit a bump and the steering and Jeep will start shaking violently for 3-6 seconds or until vehicle slows down. At highway speeds this is a long distance. Driving is unsafe when this occurs. One place in particular is extremely dangerous is a bridge transition on pellissippi parkway the bridge transition is on an uphill turn and it is hard to keep the steering wheel in the correct placement to stay in the lane. There is a barrier on one side and traffic on the other. The steering wheel is shaking and the entire Jeep is shaking. The problem started occurring with 14,000 miles on the Jeep.
At 11,500 miles my 2018 jl has a lot of play in the steering wheel where it feels I drift a lot and have to make multiple correcting to stay in the center of the lane. Also while driving at highway speeds and hitting a bump, the steering wheel shakes for up to 15 seconds long. It appears to be called the "death wobble. " this is my wife's vehicle and she does not want to drive it anymore as it is unsafe. The issue is easy to recreate.
Have a front end and steering wheel shake at highway speeds when hitting bumps.
When hitting a bump at highway speeds the steering wheel shakes out of my hand. I have to slow down to get it to stop. Happens everyday when I go to and from work no matter what I do I can avoid the bumps for over passes.
Violent steering wheel shaking and front end steering shaking when driving over road imperfections over 45 mph. Loose and wandering steering resulting in multiple steering corrections to remain straight in line on a flat straight and leveled surface. Wrangler was in dealership, not fixed, they seemed like they didn't want to deal with the issue and they are aware of this issue on other new Jeeps. This issue has been ongoing since I bought the Jeep.
The steering wheel is shaking violently at high speeds at uneven surfaces after the replacement of the steering dumper and the software update still the car has the same problem. Really hard to keep it straight on the highway, excess play on the steering wheel. Not safe at all.
